INSERT SAMPLE VISUALS FROM VISUALS PAGE General Climate INSERT FROM LAND PAGE Method of Rule INSERT FROM LAW PAGE Social Tolerance Hattusa is a land of diverse population and ethnics with a history of multiple religions and customs. It has therefore grown into a fairly tolerant land. Characters who identify as minorities are more likely to find an inclusive home in Hattusa than in most other lands.

For an overview of the social customs and ideals of the Hittites, see The Hittite People section of Hattusa's Social page.

For more detailed information on the Hittites' social opinions regarding sexualities, race, neurodivergence and all other forms of prejudice, see the Morals and Prejudices section of Hattusa's Social page.

Forms of Address Getting the right form of address is important in Hattusa. Not only does it keep the immersion of our era intact, but it saves your character making a costly social faux pas.

Whilst there is no golden rule on when it is acceptable for a character to slip into informal address, a good rule of thumb is the measurement of two social ranks. The Ranks below are listed in order. If your character is just one or two ranks lower than the person they are addressing, it may be suitable for them to use an informal mode of address. Any lower and you are safer sticking with the formal.

Land Census
Below is a quick overview of the open canons, wanted ads and in-play characters in the Hattusa land: specifically, the characters who currently occupy positions of power and which roles are still open to be filled by original characters.

For more information on the different roles and levels of authority in Hattusa see the Ranks and Hierarchy section in Hattusa's Law page.

Ruling Powers Hattusa is not an absolute monarchy. Laws are made and governed by a pseudo-democracy formed by three decision-making powers: the Tabarna (king or emperor), the Tawananna (an independent position akin to empress) and the Council of Ministers (a sort of parliament or congress). These three main powers are listed below.

Royal and Noble Families The only 'royal' house of Hattusa is the ruling house: Tahurna. All other houses (or Antu's) in Hattusa are of equal rank whether they possess royal bloodlines or not. They are all classified as nobility. Nobles who possess royal blood are given the title of Princess or Prince in respect for their blood and are treated with an elevated social status. Otherwise, there is no legal or political benefit to having a family of royal heritage.

Provincial Leaders Each province in Hattusa is led by a noble family. The head of that family is the Minister of the province and has a seat on the Council of Ministers.

Below is a table copied from our World Contribution page. Any provinces that are indicated as 'Open' can be claimed by new characters if a member wishes to create a new Antu' (Noble House).

INSERT FROM WORLD CONTRIBUTION PAGE

For a more detailed list of each province and its industry and benefits, see the Province Listings section of Hattusa's Land page.
Military Leaders Each province has several military legions, each with its own specialism in combat. The leaders of these legions are Captains. Depending on their specialism, each legion will belong to one of three units: Infantry, Archery and Charioteering. These units are ruled by a Huiyatalla and their Deputy. The three Huiyatalla take their orders from the Gal Meshedi: the Commander-in-Chief of the Hittite armed forces.

For a more information on military rankings and the authority and duties that come with them, see the Military Ranks section in Hattusa's Military page.
Full Peerage The entire populace of Hattusa includes royals, nobles and common folk from across the empire. All open canons, open wanteds and in-play characters, from all classes of life, are listed below. The list also includes Legacy characters.
