Writing Resources
The resources below should only be used as additional aids when writing posts: for details or plot ideas. They are not a substitute for reading through the relevant pages of our Encyclopaedia. Please be aware that some of the details in these sources will contradict the canon information on our site. Where this occurs, please take our own Encyclopedia as gospel for our fictional version of the ancient world.

The different sections below range in length and resource diversity. While we do aim to have a varied balance of resources, in different formats, for all categories, this list is formed from community recommendations and suggestions and there may be gaps in the diversity of our content.
Story-Telling
General Writing Resource
prowritingaid.com
You have to sign up but this site has thousands of articles and resources to help you improve your writing. Our community has recommended this learning hub in particular as a good place for broad and supportive information.

What Does a Panic Attack Feel Like?
healthline.com
This article focuses mainly on panic attacks, the symptoms, the myths behind them and how they alter from anxiety attacks. Use this resource if your character is struggling in this way and you'll be both experientially relatable and scientifically accurate.

A Panic Attack vs. An Anxiety Attack
healthline.com
This one focuses more on the difference between the two types of attack, giving more detail on anxiety attacks than the resource above. Again, this comes from a reliable health resource site and is worth a read if your character is falling into this kind of stress level.

British Dialect Translator
whoohoo.co.uk
This is a resource page with multiple translators for different british accents/dialects. Whilst this is of less use on general Aeipathy boards, it may be helpful to members' own writing or in alternate reality boards etc.

How to Write a Stutter
wordpress.com
A fantastic resource, from a writer who has a family member with a stutter, this article gives information on how a stutter works, how to punctuate it on the page and how to use it in story and character development. Highly recommend it! Character Creation
Personality Types
16personalities.com

writerswrite.co.za
This article is a great resource for explaining the significance of character flaws, their variability and provides a long list of potential weaknesses you can incorporate into your character.

Personal Quirks
listography.com
A long list of quirks for your character, both personal and physical. It includes potential injuries, verbal cues, nervous habits and general demeanor. It's not organized in the most helpful of manners and you may have to skim and scan but the ideas listed are great.

Physical Characteristics
yourdictionary.com
This list works more on the linguistics of describing physical appearance. Which is really helpful for the profile application when you need to pick one word to describe your character's build. It's also useful in the writing, when describing your own character's impression of others and wanting to diversify your choice of language.

Descriptive Terms for the Physical
macmillandictionary.com
The language options in this article are more 'high-brow' and descriptively fanciful. Terms like 'barrel-chested' and 'herculean' find their way onto this list, which is focused on the physical shape/build of a character.

Secrets and Memories
tumblr.com
This article is old and its images and design broken so it's a little hard to read. However, we recommend highlighting the text or copy and pasting it elsewhere to read properly. This list is long and whilst many of its ideas for "secrets” border on the excessive/dramatic, it's a good starting point for inspiration. BIPOC / POC Characters
Writing Characters of Colour
tumblr.com
This is an interactive resource that you can submit questions to regarding writing people of colour. All answers come from experienced writers who (we believe) are of colour themselves. Disabilities / Non-Able Bodied

This is a super useful and non-judgmental article all about inspiring understanding between different kinds of people.

Writing Deaf Characters (From a Deaf Person)
tumblr.com
The writer of this article is a little less empathetic than the above but this helps with blunt and factual delivery. They themselves are deaf and explain the difference between deaf and 'deaf', as well as the general culture of the deaf and hard of hearing and incorrect perceptions the hearing world has upon it.

Writing Without Sound: Deaf and Hard of Hearing
wattpad.com
This one is a super quick terminology lesson on when to use Deaf, 'deaf', 'dumb', 'hearing impaired' and all those other terms that the hearing world may mistake to be synonymous. It rules out the terms that could be offensive and explains the differences between those that are left.

Introduction to Writing Disability
wordpress.com
This article is wordy and told in experience rather than factual bullet points but it's a good introduction to the idea of writing disability and the reasons of 'why'. I.e. avoiding tokenism or the exoticism of giving a character a 'side-trait' of a disability just to 'keep things interesting'.

Disability Writing Guidelines
rootedinrights.org
Less wordy than the above and a little more list-like, this article is geared towards people writing disabilities in their novels or long-stories. But there's also plenty of information that can then be translated into roleplay!

Ask: Physical Disabilities
tumblr.com
This resource is a Q&A interactive source where users can submit questions to those with disabilities to see how they might better write disabled characters. Read the guidelines carefully on how to best ask your question and get the most useful answer.

Writing Disabilities

A short article that is written in a paragraph chunk - no structure or headers - this article is nonetheless useful for expressing the biggest issues with disabled character representation in fiction.

Opium Overdose
harmreduction.org
A healthcare information resource about opioid abuse and overdosing. This article can help writing characters who have indulged too much and might need the help of a physician. Remember that opioid use is a spectrum, so a character could start to develop some of these symptoms without going into dangerous overdose territory.

youtube.com
This is just one video in a series of good writing-help vids. Specifically, it focuses on how to kill a character in a way that is meaningful to your audience and appropriate to your story.
