INSERT SAMPLE VISUALS FROM VISUALS PAGE General Climate INSERT FROM LAND PAGE Method of Rule INSERT FROM LAW PAGE Social Tolerance Babylonia is a vast port city and is therefore exposed to citizens from many lands. It has a small population but one that is diverse in religion, ethnics and customs. It is an incredibly tolerant and inquisitive land. Characters who identify as minorities are very likely to find an inclusive home in Babylonia compared to most other lands.

For an overview of the social customs and ideals of the Chaldeans, see The Chaldean People section of Babylonia's Social page.

For more detailed information on the Chaldeans' social opinions regarding sexualities, race, neurodivergence and all other forms of prejudice, see the Morals and Prejudices section of Babylonia's Social page.

Forms of Address Getting the right form of address is important in Babylonia. Not only does it keep the immersion of our era intact, but it saves your character making a costly social faux pas.

Whilst there is no golden rule on when it is acceptable for a character to slip into informal address, a good rule of thumb is the measurement of two social ranks. The Ranks below are listed in order. If your character is just one or two ranks lower than the person they are addressing, it may be suitable for them to use an informal mode of address. Any lower and you are safer sticking with the formal.

Ruling Powers Babylonia is an absolute monarchy. Laws are made and governed by a the monarch of the land. The king or queen of Babylonia does not have to answer to a Council, Senate or other governing body at all.

Immediate Royal Family The 'immediate royal family' includes all living parents, children, spouses, or siblings of the current monarch. Those born to the extended royal lines grow up to become the nobilities of the Babylonian Court (see below). As the current Queen of Babylonia has yet to marry and produce heirs, there are no immediate descendants or royal family members. Royal and Noble Families The only 'royal' house of Babylonia is the ruling house: Ashina. The two other houses (or Bêlu's) in Babylonia possess royal bloodlines but are not of equal rank to the ruling house. They are both classified as nobility only. The leaders of each House are referred to as Angals but, unlike in Assyria, this is not a political rank/position: it is merely a title of respect.

Provincial Leaders Babylonia is a city state therefore has no provincial areas of note. The city itself has several neighbours or residential areas that are independently defined but these are not ruled independent from the whole. The main city of Babylonia is technically named Babylon. However, the terms Babylon (the city) and Babylonia (the city, and its surrounding lands) are often used synonymously.

There are no open provinces or opportunities to create new Noble Houses in Babylonia. If you wish to create your own Noble or Royal House in another land, see our World Contribution page for more information.

For more details on Babylon and its surrounding areas see the Province Listings section of Babylonia's Land page.
Military Leaders The Babylonian armed forces are a single unit, ruled by martial specialists. The nobility and monarch of Babylonia may enlist in the army but it is not usual for them to lead it. The Babylonian army is divided into four units: Infantry, Archery, Cavalry and Navy. Each unit is commanded by a Captain and their deputy. The four Captains take their orders from the monarch: the Commander-in-Chief of the Chaldean armed forces. Lieutenants serve under their Captains and are in charge of units large enough to wage battle alone. Ensigns are a lower rank of officer who serve and aide the Lieutenants.
