He nodded. So it was decided that they would use this place as their base. His attention slanted over to Akhmad, signalling to Zai about food. Zai readily agreed to go out into the market to procure some. That meant that, unless they were going to steal it all, they’d need at least a little bit of money. Not that they didn’t have some already but the entire group had a fund all to itself. It was a portion of this that Khanh took from a bag that sat near to the stairs. That meant going near Somra but he didn’t look at her as he fished around in the bag and withdrew a small pouch. This he tossed to Zai.
“Don’t spend what you don’t have to,” he said and stood back up, glancing at Nahash. Somra and Tiye, by then, were sorting through clothing and he found that this sort of broken up cliques in the group would be normal and interesting, if Somra was going to keep sulking. What he wouldn’t give for a fire. Hopefully what the other two brought back for them all would be cooked and ready to eat, rather than needing to be prepared. They didn’t have fuel for a fire anyway.
“I will take first watch,” he said and walked the stairs to where their sleeping platform would be. In order to get to the roof, he’d have to haul himself up through a hole, which didn’t end up being too difficult. The real issue was staying mostly hidden on the roof, which also didn’t end up being too much trouble. There was a bit of rubble up here that he could use to sit behind that would shield him from a casual glance from above. Their proximity to the end of the street and this burned hull of a neighborhood meant that no one was going to come down here, more than likely and whoever did wouldn’t leave if they meant trouble.
He kept up this vigil until it was someone else’s turn, perfectly content to be by himself for a bit.
