He knew exactly what she was doing when she leaned back on her elbows, leaving herself completely self assured and exposed. The game was for him to see exactly what he’d lost and he decided that, yes, he would be quite a sore loser if he didn’t at least look. It would be such a shame if he missed the sun glinting off the water droplets collecting on her stomach or rolling off the curves of her breasts. By now he was nearly right next to her and she had a hold of his finger as he teased her about cheating.
Probably he should have been a bit more brutish. Asking her to surrender to him wasn’t an out of the blue question. She’d stripped down and had been taunting him already. Truthfully it was more like a foregone conclusion, though she appeared to be a little coy with the concept, whereas he was not. He liked to know what his lines were and where he could and could not cross, though all rules were meant to be broken, if his life was anything to go by. But Khanh liked women and if she had suddenly decided to change her mind, he’d let her leave. He just didn’t think that was very likely, even though he’d lost. It was becoming less likely by the second as she came closer, fingers sliding against his jaw, smirk playing against her lips.
He swallowed as her thumb traced down his lip. She had his full and complete attention. He shifted his hips to the side a bit when his lower region grew too big and too uncomfortable as she purred her words at him. “A name-” he began, his mind racing to think up another lie but he closed his eyes as her face drew nearer and frowned just a little when her lips pressed softly against his own. His thoughts further scattered when she folded herself into his lip, sitting right over his hips and he was barely focusing on what she was saying anymore. He heard something about a compromise and attempted to maintain rational thought but all he wanted to do was take her by the hips and guide her right down onto himself. Then they could talk.
She kissed him again, nipping at his lower lip and he let out a breath in a rush, not able to keep his hands to himself anymore. He’d been good, keeping his hands fisted at his sides, grinding into the dirt as he fought to keep them there, but now one slide up her spine and the other traveled from her navel to the valley between her breasts, then slid to the side, taking one against his palm.
“You’re such a tease,” he managed, opening his eyes and pulling back from her just enough to be able to see her clearly. His nose brushed hers and he finally settled on a believable lie - the first name that came to him. “Khanh,” only to close his eyes again as a smile crossed his lips. Well. So much for lying.

It had never been very hard for Neithotep to get what she wanted from a man; at their core, most of them were simple creatures with simple desires that were easy to appeal to. He was like putty in her hands when she held her body over him, hazy, lust-filled eyes meeting hers while she fought to keep the smugness from her own. He was restraining himself admirably, but as she shifted herself that much more against him, she knew that restraint wouldn’t last long.
It was all she could do not to laugh when he finally did lay his hands on her, leaning into his touch with a soft exhale of heated breath. Frankly, Nia was surprised that he had resisted her at all—the thief had seemed a rather direct man from the start, and presented with such ample opportunity, she had expected him to seize it quite literally with both hands. It was somehow endearing that he didn’t, though, an unexpected gesture of respect that had her looking at him with a new sort of appreciation.
She did laugh when he called her a tease and still volunteered his name, though it was sound devoid of mocking or derision. Instead, it was warm and full of mirth, returning the gentle nudge against his nose. “Khanh,” she repeated, turning the name over on her tongue like an unanticipated delicacy. “Hmm. Not quite as fitting as Panya, I think, but I guess it will do.”
Nia’s laugh faded to a playful grin, lashes lowering in a wink. “And yes, I am a tease,” she confirmed, fingertips trailing across his face while she pressed another kiss to his lips, this one lingering a bit longer than the last. She took her time tasting him, deepening the kiss with a sound of pleasure that resonated deep in her throat. Her other hand traced its way down his body with the barest of touches, softly caressing the hardened muscle before halting just above the part of him that she knew craved her touch the most. Barely parting from his lips, she added in a whisper, “I think that’s why you like me. Khanh.”
Pressing in closer, her body brushed his at hip and shoulder, tantalizing while still maintaining a semblance of distance. “After all…” The tips of her nails whispered over his pelvic bone, poising herself to hover just above the hardness that nudged between her thighs. Her tongue ran slowly along the curve of his ear before gently nuzzling just below it. “Where’s the fun without a little chase?”

Because he couldn’t read her mind, he didn’t know she found any of this amusing. Well, that wasn’t strictly true. Her eyes were alight with amusement, but he couldn’t know she found it interesting he’d tried and had thus far, resisted her. Khanh liked to think that he was a human being and could reason and follow his own inclinations, independent of what his body might want or the desires thereof. At the moment, his more cool, and rational side, the one that plotted break-ins’ and ordered about the Sariqas-was not the dominant side. Not with a naked woman fully in his lap and literally no reason not to do this. No one would find out. She wasn’t married, he was even less tied down than she was. There was nothing wrong with it. Except, of course, he’d idiotically given her his real name. With the heat of her breath on his skin and the briefest hint of her sex against his, most thought fled his brain completely. He looked down her body, wanting to just push her straight down onto himself, but her voice purred at him and he glanced back up in time for her nose to brush against his.
“Khanh. Hmm. Not quite as fitting as Panya, I think, but I guess it will do.”
His lips parted so that he could say something back to her but he wasn’t able to do more than “Uh huh.” Again, idiotically agreeing that, yes, Mouse should have been his name. And then, to save himself, he finally had enough wherewithal to add, “I’m so tiny, you’re right. Just call me Panya from now on.” And forget his real name, if she had any sense of mercy for him. Which...she likely didn’t.
Anything more he wanted to say was overridden by her next words and then her lips brushing against his. It was enough to still whatever he’d thought he might say. His eyes closed and he let her deepen the kiss. He was in no hurry whatsoever to rush this. His worries about getting her home in a reasonable time were gone and the horse grazing on the other side of the oasis was so far outside of the realm of the things he cared about at this moment that the beast might as well have been on another planet. Her hand moved down his body and stopped frustratingly short, only for her to also pull away so that she could tease him some more. He groaned at her, eyebrows drawing together in a pleading frown. And then, he half grinned at what she said.
“I think that’s why you like me. Khanh. After all…Where’s the fun without a little chase?”
Her fingers drifted closer, going so far as his pubic bone before sliding away over his hip. His hands were both on her back as she settled over him, still just above where he wanted her. The smirk on his lips widened as she licked at his ear, her voice and breath a sultry mix, sending shivers along his body, but she’d pushed just a little too far. “I don’t like you because you’re a tease,” he said and pushed her onto her back on the grassy bank of the oasis. “I like you for your giving heart. And gold.” Her heart was the very last thing he was after.
The way he’d pushed her down, her legs were over his hips and he took full advantage of the position to slide inside her. He did not move fast enough to hurt, but firm enough to put an end to the teasing. Truly, if he’d have thought she’d do this in her own bedroom, he’d have taken the time to have sex with her there, then take the necklace, then win the horse. Hindsight.
He grinned down at her, then kissed her, wanting the sensation of his tongue in her mouth, moving at the same pace as his hips, now that he was fully inside. It would be shocking to no one, but thieving didn’t exactly get him a lot of time with the opposite sex. During the day he usually slept, and at night, he was busy with the Sariqas, none of whom he wanted to sleep with. This was a lovely little break from life.

The dazed look in his eyes, the blurred haze of his speech, the twitching of a certain body part between her legs… Nia knew she had him. He’d held out admirably, but that self-restraint had no place with her. Nearly as soon as she had the thought, he was responding just as she thought he would, making no protest at their sudden change in position. Grinning in triumph when he put her on her back at last, she couldn’t help but laugh as he slid inside her. That laugh quickly turned to a groan, a groan soon stifled by his kiss. Her arm looped up and around his neck to pull him in closer, one leg encircling his waist while her hips moved effortlessly to fall into rhythm with his.
Her tongue tangled relentlessly with Khanh’s, the fingernails of her free hand trailing down his back and leaving scarlet trails in their wake. The fact that their night began as a break-in and robbery and ended up here should have disturbed her more than it did, but then, Nia had never been known for her good sense. The problem child of her family with a rather scathing (if true) reputation among the nobility, that aspect of her personality was not likely to change any time soon. It seemed a strange sort of seduction, but when had any of her exploits ever been considered ‘normal?’
Finally breaking away from his mouth, her head tilted back against the grass with a shuddering exhale, a breathless laugh pushing past kiss-swollen lips. “Well, Panya, there is at least one part of you that is not very mouse-like at all,” she teased appreciatively, eyes fluttering shut as said part pushed even deeper inside of her. “I must say, it’s always very disappointing when large men don’t live up to their size in… other places.” Dark eyes opened again with another grin, meeting his gaze with a wink. “And even more disappointing when those that do live up to it don’t know how to use their blessing.”
Tightening her leg’s grip on his body, she shifted to better accommodate him while her lips started their own journey from his jaw down his neck to stop at his shoulder, which she greeted with a bite. His movements were strong and powerful, assured without being flashy. It was not enough to hurt, not nearly, but truly, Nia would not have minded so much if it had. There was something to be said for those rougher nights of passion, the nights that left one marked and aching in a way that sparked the desire for more.
Her fingers tangled in his hair as she whispered a simple request (or perhaps demand), “Harder.”

A rumble of approval resounded within his chest as her nails dragged down the muscles of his back. He was pleased and a little concerned for her that she was so into this tryst. It served him well enough but he’d threatened to kill her only a few hours ago. And that threat hadn’t been hollow in the least. One move and her gorgeous neck would have snapped. She broke away from his kiss, an unsteady sigh escaping and he took the chance to trail his lips against the very place he’d have used to end her. Thank the gods she hadn’t forced his hand to do it. She was too lovely to meet that sort of fate.
She laughed and he merely dipped lower, his hips rolling into her as she attempted to speak, while his lips grazed along her bare shoulder. “Well, Panya, there is at least one part of you that is not very mouse-like at all.” He grinned against her skin and raised up to look back at her face, never stilling in his movements inside her. She was pretty, he realized. He’d taken note of that before, but sometimes people were pretty only when they were kempt and ‘fit to be seen’. The two of them had already been through quite the adventure tonight, ending with a swim race in the oasis. Even with her hair slicked back, half dry and frizzing up, the features of her face were perfect; small, pleasing in their cuteness. He watched her lips curving around the words she was saying as her fathomless dark eyes opened again.
“I must say, it’s always very disappointing when large men don’t live up to their size in… other places. And even more disappointing when those that do live up to it don’t know how to use their blessing.”
“Shhh,” he grinned and brushed his lips to hers. “This is your first time,” he instructed. “I’m terribly small and you don’t know any better. I live up to my Panya name.” Her kisses moved away from his mouth, across his jaw, down until she bit his shoulder. His eyes closed at the momentary pinch and when she commanded him, he smiled to himself, opening his eyes at last and did as he was bid. Who was he to disobey a noble lady? Reaching back, he grasped her thigh and moved it up higher against his side so that he could go deeper and had room to snap his hips against her, rocking them both. It was funny to him to pretend this was her first time. Especially when she was acting like she was Hathor on earth. Who knew? Maybe she was a goddess. That thought made him even more pleased.

Shhh. This is your first time. I’m terribly small and you don’t know any better. I live up to my Panya name.
At that, Nia laughed even harder, her laugh fading to a groan as he seemed to eagerly obey her demand. Her hips ground against his in a smooth counterrhythm, each thrust punctuated by a sharp gasp betraying her approval. “You really want me to pretend this is my first time?” she managed to ask, her voice husky and broken up by desire. There still lingered a warm undertone of amusement, her hand trailing to his hip as she fought to match her movements to his. “Have you even had a virgin? I assure you, they’re dreadfully dull.”
She pulled Khanh’s face back to hers, meeting his lips with a smoldering hunger and a tongue that knew exactly where it was headed. Tasting his mouth for several long moments, her fingers tangled in his hair with a none-too-gentle tug. Coming up for breath, she pulled away so she could whisper, “Are you sure you want me to pretend I don’t know what I’m doing?”
Smirking, she went on, “I could just lay here and look up at you with wide eyes, waiting and hoping for you to make all the right moves. Or…” Her leg tightening more firmly around his waist, Nia arched her body into his, dragging her fingers through his hair while the other slowly caressed its way down his back, over his hip, and across his rear to pull him more firmly into her. The tip of her tongue roamed up his neck and stopped at his ear, nipping the lobe. “I can make sure you do.”
As strangely and violently as this night had begun, she couldn’t deny how much fun she was having. ‘Panya’ took her teasing in good stride and had conceded her stolen victory when she’d dragged him beneath the surface of the small lake. If she ever told anyone about this night, she doubted they would believe her—from the way it started to how it was ending seemed a tale fit only for the lips of a mischievous bard, but these were the nights Nia lived for. The fun. The strange. The remarkably unexpected. Even though dawn had already shown its face and the sun climbed higher in the sky, the young noblewoman was in no rush to get back home. This night had been an adventure she wouldn’t be forgetting any time soon, and she only wished she could extend it even longer.

“You really want me to pretend this is my first time?” Nia asked through a gasp. The expression on her face drew a grin across his. Every single person who’s ever had sex had to deal with the first awkward stage of a ‘first time’. He wondered what her first time had been like. Probably a far cry from the vixen she was now. A vixen drawing feather light touches against his hip and adjusting her body to match his rhythm inside her. A deep rumble of satisfaction echoed in his chest and he brushed his lips against her mouth as she spoke to him.
“Have you even had a virgin? I assure you, they’re dreadfully dull.”
He’d have grinned at her question but she’d pulled him into a fierce kiss, her tongue making him forget the past for a few seconds as he’d sifted through memories, trying to remember if he had ever been with a virgin or not. Why dwell on old experiences and people when you could enjoy the present moment? With this person? Besides, it was fairly clear she didn’t need or truly want an answer. He was perfectly content to let her assume whatever she liked. Perhaps that random trysts like this were so very normal that he’d forget her as soon as she left. Or, perhaps this was his first encounter of this kind and she’d live in his memory forever as the woman he’d never have again. The real answer was somewhere in between. He hadn’t gone to her room with this outcome in mind, though; sex was never on his mind during a break in. That was a good way to get yourself killed. However, this was a welcome twist nonetheless.
Nia jerked his head back, cutting off their kiss with a smirking whisper, threatening to just lie beneath him, trembling with fear and excitement. Even during her first time, he didn’t think she’d been some wide eyed innocent lamb, waiting for slaughter. Her fingers gliding through his hair and down his body reinforced that opinion. All at once, her hand pressed against his rear and she forced him deeper than he’d assumed she’d wanted. The last time he’d tried to do this, the woman had shoved him right off her and it had taken a fiar bit of coaxing to get her to continue.
His thoughts scattered as Nia nipped at his ear. Turning his head, he caught her mouth, his tongue playing with hers. Each thrust of his hips sent him to her very core, slow at first, because they’d been messing around up to now. But his interest in talking was gone. He was more interested in her leg wrapped around his waist and reached back to her thigh, guiding it to mirror her other leg at his hip. She was tiny beneath him, totally open to him. His to take however he wished while they were here.
The air shimmered above them. Sunlight bathed his back, heat slowly building against his skin but it was nothing to the fire in his veins. His heart pounded within his chest as his fingers wound themselves in Nia’s hair. He tugged her head back, revealing the beautiful column of her neck. His lips trailed along her jaw and throat, nipping at her to get her to moan. Wanting nothing more than to grind into her, he delayed the impulse. His languid pace was to keep himself in check, and to allow him the freedom to kiss her shoulder, enjoying the soft smoothness of her body as he made his way down her chest. He cupped one breast in his large hand and rolled thenipple of her other breast against his tongue. She was gorgeous and he didn’t want to waste her by being too focused on his own end. Kissing back up her chest, he licked and nipped her neck until his lips met hers, and he began rolling his hips deep into her again, pace increasing, intending to give her what she came for.

The young woman complied easily with Khanh’s shifting of her body, both legs wrapping around his waist to let him ease inside of her deeper than before. Her laughter died on her lips as he kissed his way up her neck, the little nips along the way drawing soft groans from deep within her throat. The hands on his hips encouraged each thrust, her head tipping back against the ground while her eyes fluttered shut with a quiet sigh of ecstasy.
His hands were warm on her skin, his touch drawing shivers of pleasures where his fingers trailed. The heat of his hands was nothing to the heat of his mouth where it enveloped the soft skin of her breast, arching her back just enough to show her appreciation of his attention. Nia loved when a man took his time and didn’t rush for the end; for what was the fun of the journey if one was only concerned for its completion?
And there was so much of him to enjoy. He was the exact opposite of the mouse she teased him of being, more akin to the size of a lion with his imposing height and hulking muscles. Those very muscles were hard and taut beneath her fingers, stretched between broad shoulders whose looming presence blocked out the sun itself. She was the mouse beneath him, caught up in the cat’s paw, but all too happy to remain there. Nia was not a tiny woman compared to others, but next to him, she was practically miniscule. It leant her an air of vulnerability that she was unused to, but after the night’s previous events, she was not overly worried about him hurting her. The time for that had long since passed, and with him moving within her with such sure thrusts, if he did hurt her, it was a pain she was unlikely to complain about.
Moving up her neck, his mouth found hers again as his pace increased, Nia moaning encouragingly into that kiss while her hips shifted against his. Every thrust brought him deeper inside her, deep enough that it almost felt like he was nestled in her stomach. She was not sure if anyone had ever pushed so deep into her, but then most men weren’t quite so well-endowed as the giant between her legs. It was an entirely unique sensation and one she would chase to have a million times more if she could.
“Get on your back,” she whispered when he broke their kiss, nuzzling against his ear while her hand roamed down his flank. Grinning, she added, “Since this is my first time, let me try something I haven’t tried before.”

His mind was finally blank. He thought of nothing in particular as his hips ground into her. The only things that broke the dam of his mind were sensations of pleasure. Rippling currents that kept his whole being so entirely captivated that he wasn’t capable of rational thought. With the heat of the day on his back, and the warmth of her body beneath him, he was in a comfortable haze of entrancing magic, needing nothing. No air, no water, no food. The only thing that mattered were the actions happening between them, the sound of her moaning, the hitching of her breath, the shivers of her body, all coming together to tell him that she loved what he was doing. That, in turn, gave him the pleasure he so ardently sought. Sex was no fun if it was all one sided. Might as well be doing it all himself on his own time.
The time between when she next spoke and his own sense of self was infinite and impossibly short at the same time. Her voice came to him breathless and quiet, full of promise and allure. Khanh paused, his own breath coming in pants, looking down into her face, trying to make out what it was that she wanted. He’d actually been pretty close to his end and it was a good thing she’d spoken up.
“Get on your back,” she nuzzled his ear and he closed his eyes, groaning just a little bit, but nodding. He had to ignore the silky feeling of her hand roaming his body. Even sensations so minute as those were heightened in moments like this. “Since this is my first time, let me try something I haven’t tried before.” Her last sentence earned a grin from him and he moved back from her in a pushup, while in the same motion, putting his hands on her waist to bring her with him without disconnecting them from each other. His core muscles were strong enough that he didn’t need to keep his hands on the ground in order to keep momentum. When Nia was settled, Khanh clasped his hands behind his head and looked up at her, a half smile on his features. His eyes roamed the rounded depression of her navel in her gorgeous stomach, down to her naked sex, and back up to her breasts, finally coming to a rest on her face.
“This is all so terribly new,” he teased. “You appear positively frightened.” He could play this game with her forever, though, he knew this would be the one and only time, more than likely. After this, he had other cities to be in, other places to rob, other bets to win. This unexpected vacation would be one of very few of the kind he’d ever take. And definitely he’d never gone somewhere with someone in a place so scenic. With the bright shock of green grass, the glassy rippling of the water, the placid movement of the animals across the way...this was an entirely peaceful place that they had been blessed enough to find.

“Terrified,” she replied in a single breathless word, her hips moving in a sure rhythm that very clearly bespoke her ‘inexperience.’ One hand rested on his chest to keep her balance while she ground down against him, eyes rolling back in her head whilst he rubbed up against that sweet spot inside of her. “Can’t you feel me shaking?”
Nia was indeed shaking, though it was certainly not out of any sense of fear. She’d lost any fear she had of sex after the first time she’d had it, and even then, she’d been more than ready. Raised in a sensual and hedonistic culture, the teenage girl she’d been at the time had been eager for her first joining of bodies practically from the time she’d left childhood. Needless to say, it hadn’t disappointed.
No, she was shaking because she, too, was nearing her end, in spite of her attempts to draw this out as long as she could. His movements within her, his lingering gaze, the brush of his hands… these would soon undo her, and there was little she could do to stop it. As it was, she would simply enjoy the ride to its completion and hope that, somehow, she’d find a way to see him again before he inevitably took his leave of her. But even if she didn’t, this was a night and morning that she wouldn’t soon forget. Between the break-in, taking the horse, cheating in the race, to this rather… unexpected conclusion to their evening, it had been a night she’d remember often and with fond recall. While her conquests were many and varied, there’d never been one quite like Khanh, and she doubted there ever would be again.
Her nails roamed lightly up his chest to stop at his shoulder, fingers clutching into the flesh there while her movements turned more purposeful. Backlit by the golden rays of the rising sun, Nia let her gaze linger on Khanh’s for a long moment before she leaned down to kiss him, her hips grinding against his in a dance all their own. One last movement, a sharp gasp, and Nia was dissolving, melting in the wave of pleasure that overtook her.
She moaned into that kiss before her head was pressed into his shoulder, velvet walls squeezing and releasing as her climax reached its peak. Ragged breaths punctuated her command as she whispered simply in his ear, “Finish for me.”

She moaned into that kiss before her head was pressed into his shoulder, velvet walls squeezing and releasing as her climax reached its peak. Ragged breaths punctuated her command as she whispered simply in his ear, “Finish for me.”
Inside the kiss, fierce and breathless, his thoughts melted away. His only awareness came from her lips on his and the soft bounty of her hair against his hands as he pressed her to him. They moved as one, heedless of anything but each other. Her nails dug into his chest as her breath gasped out into a moan. He returned the sound, suddenly only able to focus on her pulsing around his shaft. He barely heard her when she murmured for him to finish and was powerless to disobey in any case. Nia was a woman who seemed like sex itself. His breath rushed out and his hold on her was iron and absolute while his universe simultaneously disappeared and expanded past the barriers of comprehension.
Satisfaction and contentment descended upon him and he idly petted her hair while her face tucked itself against his shoulder. They were still a tangle of limbs and bodies, still one person for a few more seconds until he laid his head back against the soft ground and realized...he’d been here too long. It hadn’t seemed like a problem for...however long his lust had ruled his brain, but now that Nia had taken care of that so completely, he realized he was going to get reamed for not meeting the Sariqas when he was supposed to. He also wasn’t completely sure that he could sell this horse today. Not with the morning half gone.
“Nia,” he returned his hands to her hair, ruffling it a bit as he shifted to turn her so that they were laying face to face. His green eyes searched her warm brown ones and he smiled at her, lifting his eyebrows a bit. “Nia you have to do something for me. Since you seduced me, I need you to buy that horse. It’s the only way.”
His tone was joking...but he wasn’t really. It was a good horse. A pretty horse. A dependable horse. Glancing across the oasis, he made a face. It was a horse staring at them right now. How long had it been doing that? Khanh kept looking at the horse for another second or two before returning his now creeped out gaze to Nia. He wouldn’t make her, but he’d do his level best to get her to pay him for the beast because he was not about to show up to the Sariqas hide out with no money, an animal they’d have to feed, and some story about being out having sex with a girl he’d just met. That would go over as well as lying and saying he’d been out drinking and had lost track of time. The lie and the truth wouldn’t work, but coin would save him from having to tell either one.

Nia’s hand roamed idly down Khanh’s side, fingertips exploring the hard musculature under sun-tanned skin. There wasn’t an ounce of fat or softness to be found anywhere on the man’s body, and Nia reveled at such a taut form. How did one even achieve such immaculate anatomy? Was his life truly so harsh or was it something he actively strived for?
Her postcoital musings were interrupted by the next words out of his mouth, Nia blinking a few times as she tried to determine if she’d heard him correctly. Was he serious? After all the trouble he’d gone to in order to even get the damn horse, he expected her to just… buy it?
Propping herself up on her elbow, dark eyes gazed down at him in patent disbelief, attempting to ascertain whether or not he was joking. “You want me to… buy the horse?” Glancing over at the mare who watched them placidly across the water, she then turned her attention back to her human companion. “You’re… you’re kidding, right?”
She still couldn’t tell if it was all in jest or not, cocking her head to the side as she regarded him. Of all the things she’d heard after bedding a man, this had to be the strangest. Then again, what else did she expect after such an oddly arranged coupling, anyway? “You know, that seems a rather anticlimactic end for the night we’ve had,” she said, her voice dry as the desert outside their oasis. “With everything we went through just to get it, the lying, the sneaking, the stealing…”
She narrowed her gaze at him. “It’s a beautiful animal, but what the hell am I supposed to do with a horse?” Gesturing to herself, she added, “Do I look like the sort of woman who raises livestock? I barely even know how to ride. My little sister’s the one you ought to be propositioning. Good luck getting more than a word out of her, though.”
Smiling at her own private joke, suddenly her gaze lit up. “Actually, you know what? Maybe that’s what you ought to do. Now, I’m not suggesting actually coming back to my house with me because… wow, yeah, that just wouldn’t be a very good idea, but I could offer to sell it to her. She’d fall in love at first sight, I can nearly guarantee it.”

Nia’s reaction told him all he needed to know about how she felt in response to that suggestion. Except...he really was being serious. As she propped herself up, he shifted into a sitting position, watching as she worked out the what, why, and how within herself. The range of emotions crossing her face was kind of amusing and Khanh grinned, finding this whole thing entertaining while she talked herself through these ideas. "You’re… you’re kidding, right?" she finally stammered.
Khanh merely kept his bright gaze on her face, smile still in place, realizing that she thought all of this was about the horse. It was his turn to look over at the animal and he did give it a long, musing look. This was a really, really nice beast. Probably it would make someone a fantastic steed. Dependable, beautiful, good natured. He looked back at Nia in time for her to mention how anticlimatic this was. "With everything we went through just to get it, the lying, the sneaking, the stealing…" she added.
“Yes,” he agreed, sliding a hand up her arm, along her shoulder, and into her hair. “All of that was the point. And the money for it after. This is a neat little end to it, I think.” And then he quirked his brows a bit. “How many climaxes to an evening do you need?” Though, just based on their exploits, he could guess the answer to that question.
Nia didn’t appear to entertain that, or at least intended to finish her own thoughts because she went on, explaining that while it was a beautiful horse, she wasn’t really a horse woman and offered up her younger sister as a better alternative. Khanh did wonder, when Nia offered up that part about not getting a word out of the girl, whether or not she was mute or dead. He made a face at her but didn’t ask for clarification.
"Actually, you know what? Maybe that’s what you ought to do. Now, I’m not suggesting actually coming back to my house with me because… wow, yeah, that just wouldn’t be a very good idea, but I could offer to sell it to her. She’d fall in love at first sight, I can nearly guarantee it."
“I can’t come to your house?” he questioned, glancing at the horse. “They don’t know I broke in?” He grinned. “If you want real trouble, you could invite me to breakfast.” But the sister idea, that was a good one. Whatever sold the horse and he told her so. It didn’t matter to him who got the horse as long as he got the money out of it. Being a thief, at least for Khanh, wasn’t really about the prize at the end; that was Nahash’s business. For Khanh, it was about the thrill of the moment, whatever happened afterwards. So for him, he’d already gotten out of tonight what he wanted to. And out of the morning, as well. The horse and the money? Necessities.

“You breaking in isn’t my concern in bringing you back to my house,” Nia responded with the hint of a laugh, leaning slightly into the hand that wound itself in her hair. “They might not know that, but you showing up with me on my doorstep just might give them an indication of the other things we’ve been up to tonight, and um, to put it lightly, let’s say they wouldn’t exactly approve.” Her eyebrow tilted suggestively, leaning in to steal a kiss. “Not that you aren’t a positive delight, but, well, I don’t think I really need to explain.”
Laughing, she shook her head and looked between Khanh and the horse. “This night—or morning, I guess—just keeps getting stranger, doesn’t it?” It wasn’t a question she really meant to be answered; the answer to it went without saying. “Man robs woman, woman accompanies man to con another man out of a horse, woman cheats in a contest, man fucks woman, man tries to sell woman the same horse.” Cocking a grin in his direction, she snorted. “Someone ought to write a ballad about us. No one would believe it’s true.”
One last kiss before she was climbing to her feet, searching for the kalasiris she’d discarded what felt like hours before. Finding it inexplicably tangled between two bushes, she blinked a few times before pulling it free and shaking the worst of the dirt from the fabric. Eyeing it doubtfully, Nia wondered if the slaves would even be able to wash the stains from it at this point. Ah, well. At least she had a couple dozen others.
Dressing herself and running her fingers through her hopelessly tangled hair, she rejoined her companion, looking for all the world like she’d just been tumbled the whole night through. Which, admittedly, she had. She was sure that anyone who saw her when she got home would know exactly what she’d been up to. After all, this wouldn’t be the first time she’d arrived home in such a state, and it certainly wouldn’t be the last.
“I still can’t believe, after all of that, you’re just going to sell the horse to my sister,” she muttered after he went to go fetch the mare. Mounting up behind him and wrapping her arms around his waist, she bit gently into his shoulder. “Whether it worked on me or not, I’ve got to say, you have a strange way with women, Panya.”
It was another hour or so before they arrived back at her family’s home in Thebes, Nia rushing inside to grab Nenet before anyone else saw them. She’d explain her companion and how they’d gotten the horse later (well, maybe not the whole story), but for now, she wanted to get this transaction done and over with before anyone else in the house deigned to wake up and ask questions.
Standing in the courtyard and watching Khanh barter with her stuttering sister, she wasn’t sure which was stranger, the night or the morning…
