Amarissa had nodded in affirmative to Yonita's inquiry. "Yes, he is quite eager. My parents want to make sure he is well set" Amarissa admitted with a bit of a laugh.
She listened as the family's purpose here was explained and nodded along understandingly. "Of course, there are many things to arrange for a wedding" she noted with a slightly teasing smile at Maeri. When Maeri insisted that Amarissa absolutely attend the engagement ceremony Amarissa felt a flush of excitement and sadness all at the same time. "But of course! I wouldn't miss it" Amarissa assured her and listened as her friend chattered on excitedly.
To say Amarissa was surprised to be invited back with the family was an understatement but she couldn't say she really had any true objection to the idea. She looked between her friend and Yonita unsure. "I..." she paused "I would have to clear it with my parents" she noted carefully and looked back at Yonita, "would you be agreeable?" she inquired respectfully of the older woman.
While they had been talking great clouds had gathered above the town and before Amarissa could say another word, great big drops of water began to fall. "We should get inside!" Amarissa noted to her fellow women. "Where are you staying?"
Hurried directions were given as the small group of Judeans found their way through the narrow streets and back to the inn where Maeri and her family were staying. Nearly soaked the bone, Amarissa had to laugh at her and Maeri's condition as they both looked like wet rats skittering into the barn for shelter from the storm that had overtaken Damascus.

Maeri couldn’t help but squealing with excitement as Amarissa agreed to at least ask about coming back with her and helping to set up for the engagement ceremony. Maeri couldn’t think of anyone who she wanted to come help more than Amarissa. Other than her sisters that is, but they were already going to be helping with everything. It was so nice to finally have a good friend outside the family.
Maeri didn’t notice at first as a few large drops started to fall from the sky, but the weather was quickly unavoidable. The weather had come on so suddenly and unexpectedly, it almost felt as if someone had dumped a bucket of water over all of them. Maeri led the way for Amarissa through the streets hurrying out of the rain as if it would be of any help now that they were already soaked through. Rayla ran behind yipping and jumping at them as they ran through the streets. For her it was great fun to chase the girls, the rain didn’t appear to bother her in the least. They quickly left Yonita behind as she preferred to move at a more dignified pace.
Finally, they reached the inn where Maeri and her family had been staying for their visit to Damascus. She stood in the entryway, dripping and trying to catch her breath. Rayla walked between the two girls then promptly shook herself from head to toe, flinging water onto both girls. Maeri started to laugh. “I guess we can’t get any more wet.” She said to Amarissa grinning at the other girl.
After a few moments, Maeri realized she was still just standing there dripping, not offering any hospitality to her guest. “I suppose I should change out of my wet clothes,” she suggested to Amarissa. “You’re about my size,” she said looking at Amarissa consideringly, trying to judge whether or not she had any clothing the woman could borrow. “I could probably lend you something if you want to dry your clothes before you head back.” She looked down a bit. Was that a weird thing to suggest? She had often shared clothes with her sisters, or at least Nedevah, but Amarissa wasn’t family. “Or you should at least stay until it stops raining.”

Rain was always a welcome respite from the dessert heat in Ammun and here in Damascus it was no different. Even as they darted from sheltering eve to leaky overhang on their way to Inn, Amarissa did not truly mind the dampness that began to soak into her skin.
Laughing with Maeri as Rayla soaked them both, Amarissa shook her head in agreement. "Definitely not now!" she added with a laugh.
Amarissa's eyes lit up slightly as the other young woman offered to share dry clothes with her. What could it hurt. Staying in wet clothes certainly wasn't good for the health and Maeri was right. They were similar enough in size that the loose fitting clothing common to their status should fit perfectly fine on either of them. "I would be in your debt" Amarissa said sincerely.
Soon they found themselves scampering up to Maeri's family's rooms in the inn and trying to keep anyone from noticing the large puddles of water they and Rayla were leaving behind. Giggles could be heard as the two young women relived a bit of childhood frivolity.

Once they reached her room, Maeri started digging around for something for them both to change into. She had already taken the soaked Mitzpahath off her head as she stepped through the door, her hair soaked into dark tendrils through the thin head covering. Still dripping on the floor, she flung open a chest and started pulling out various robes. “What do you think of this one?” Maeri asked, pulling out a medium brown robe. It wasn’t her absolutely favorite robe, but it was still one she liked a lot.
She handed it over to Amarissa, before quickly turning back to her chest to pick out something for herself to wear. “Go ahead and keep it for now. You can always give it back on the journey back to Judah.” Maeri couldn’t help but smile at the thought. She was going to get to talk all about her plans for her wedding and everything her new life was going to bring for a few days.
Maeri finally picked out a robe for herself in a deep blue. She quickly stripped down to her undergarments leaving her sopping wet clothes in a pile on the floor. It was something she didn’t think much of. She’d changed often enough in front of her sisters, and it wasn’t like she was entirely naked. Besides, Amarissa was a woman and a friend so there was no issue of modesty. It only took a few moments for her to change into her nice dry clothing.
As she finished getting dressed, Maeri cocked her head to the side, suddenly realizing that the sound of pouring rain was missing. “It sounds like it stopped raining!” Maeri declared. “Or at least I think. It’s certainly not raining that hard anymore.” It wasn’t that unusual for the rains that came through Judea to end just as abruptly as they started.

Amarissa offered no complaints about the brown robe that was offered to her. Rishona had always taught her to not look down on gifts and to accept any favors with grace. "Oh of course, it's beautiful" Amarissa nodded quickly and took the robe gently, moving a few feet away to start changing herself.
She glanced over as Maeri stripped down to her undergarments and Amarissa felt her eyes lingering a bit longer as they took in her friend's form. With a quick swallow, Amarissa looked away and hoped Maeri had not noticed. Stripping down as well and turning away slightly, Amarissa tried to keep her soaked hair from touching the new robe as she shimmied out of her wet clothes and into the borrowed dry ones.
"There we go, all better" she said with a smile as she turned back to her friend and listened for the rain when its absence was pointed out. "I do think you're right" she said with a grin. "Should we send a messenger to my parents to ask about our plans?" she asked excitedly. It was going to be so much fun to be away from home for a few months and get to plan a wedding!
