A boring family get together, some extravagant affair to host the family that his parents were considering marrying his sister into. Or something else along those lines, Hena really wasn’t paying attention to a single thing his mother had said. Most of them were the usual things, be on his best behavior, represent the family as the new heir, blah blah blah. Words he had heard many times and heeded never. He had made his appearance, played at niceties, and had now slipped out fairly early on in the evening, Like hell he was going to spend all day stuck in the room pretending to care about the relationship between his family and what ever one it was that they had over.
He now hurried down the hall, determined to get far away from all of them before his mother would notice he was missing and send someone looking for him. His plan was to sneak out, find some more appealing company in the arms of a woman or two and actually enjoy his night, all talk of duty this and honour that left far behind him.
He thought he had gotten away with it too, just starting to feel at ease when he could hear footsteps coming down the hall behind him. He inwardly groaned, great, it was probably his mother, come to drag him by the ear back into the room like he was still a child instead of a grown man.
He turned, ready to argue with his mother about why he refused to come back to the event, and instead he was met with someone who looked familiar but who he couldn’t be bothered to recall his name. One of the guests who attended the small party his mother threw, or at least what she considered a party. His idea of a party included less family and a lot less clothing as well.
“Is there a particular reason you are following me?” He asked, trying not to let himself get angry at the prospect of his night being ruined and him being caught sneaking off because of this man who had decided to follow him out of the room for what ever reason. He still could not recall his name, though he was sure that they had met more than once. He had never been great at names, especially with people he thought insignificant to his personal life.

It wasn't that Kissan was upset or even disinterested in the base reason for tonight's meal. He found his uncle's potential intended charming and beautiful by Egyptian standards. A bit..distracted perhaps but up to par with the young women Kissan had come to know who frequented the Pharaoh's noble families.
No he quite approved of his uncle getting married in fact and even somewhat hoped that a child would be produced and that perhaps the responsibility of the Hei would somehow fall to that unlucky bastard instead. It wasn't wholly that Kissan didn't want to inherit, it was more that the fact that he was inheriting was causing roadblocks in the paths he did wish to pursue and that was proving frustrating.
If a child was born, perhaps he could sneak away to the army uninhibited and not feel a shred of guilt having left the Hei in obviously capable hands. Then again that's what his uncle tried and look where that had gotten them. Narmer would probably die of some godforsaken plague and Kissan would have to come back and rescue the Hei and raise the poor child. That seemed like a bad plan.
Kissan had not realized he had zoned out until a servant offered him a drink and he found himself back in the stuffy room, his uncle and intended droning on about this that or the other with her mother. With a charming smile, Kissan took the drink and uttered a quick excuse about getting a bit of air and found his exit.
Wandering down the halls, Kissan admired the trappings of a Hei not in disarray and enjoyed the murals and other assorted art. Was this what his Hei had looked like back when his father was alive? He didn't really remember, he'd been just a small boy but the essence of it seemed familiar.
In truth he had not realized he'd accidentally followed the slightly older young man out towards the outer courtyard. He looked up surprised at the edge of accusation in the young man's voice.
"Just getting some air" Kissan said with a smile and a disarming motion with his hands. He moved out of the doorway past the young man and took a deep breath of night air. "It is so...stuffy in there" Kissan said with a laugh, glancing at the other young man cautiously. He knew of Akhenaten's reputation but the two had not crossed paths all that often. Different circles and all that. Both his father and Narmer had been rather careful about who he hung around. Or well, they'd tried.
"You're Akhenaten right?" Kissan asked with an easy smile. "Gotten used to it yet?" Kissan asked lightly.

Hena was apprehensive to say the least, what were the odds that he had come out here for fresh air just as he himself had been trying to make his escape from the boring gathering. He couldn’t help but wonder if his own mother had put the other male up to this. Probably thought he was a good influence who could help turn Akhenaten around or something. His mother was so determined to change everything about who her son was, especially now that he was heir. Efforts he was determined to thwart. He liked who he was now, and was certain that he would not change, especially not for his mother, who’s attentions only turned to him because her favourite child was no longer in the family.
He too stepped out into the night air, not quite taking his leave to attend the tavern he had planned on escaping to. First he had to be sure that Kissan wasn’t about to turn tail and tattle on him, he wished to disappear so that he might have a few moments of peace. If his mother knew where he was going, she was likely to send someone to drag him out by his hair and back to the house.
“Correct.” He said when the man asked his name, and Hena moved to stand across from him so he could look at him while he talked, though he left a fair distance between them, not comfortable enough with this man to get close.
“To being heir? The heir part doesn’t bother me. It’s the suffocating presence of my mother that drags me down.” He said with a snort. He could handle being heir, if he was left to his own devices and allowed to do what he wanted, rather than being expected to be some perfect, personality-less offspring, made only to present himself in court.
“I do not recall your name.” He said bluntly, no reason to pretend he did, it would become blaringly obvious that he had no idea who this man was when he was unable to use his name in conversation at any point. Besides that, he didn’t care what the other thought of him. His mother was attempting to marry Nia off to his family, not Hena. Hena would be damned if he would be forced to marry someone other than someone he chose on his own.
“If you have no plans to return to what my mother thinks is a party, then perhaps you’d care to join me in consuming some wine. Anything is better than being stuck in there, even if it includes being stuck in your company. No offense meant, but I would much rather have a beautiful woman at my side.” He said with a laugh, attempting to at least try to be friendly, though if for no other reason than to cure his own boredom.
“Your company will do for the moment, until I find some of a much more pleasing nature.” He said, waiting there for the man’s response to his invitation to drink.

Kissan noted the other young man seemed to relax a little bit and enjoyed the coolness of the night air for a few moments. Kissan nodded as the man noted that it was not being an heir that bothered him but instead his mother's suffocating direction in how to be one. Kissan considered Narmer's own direction style and while it felt distinctly less suffocating than what he had seen of this young man's mother, he felt a similar anxiousness to be out from under it for even a little while.
As the young man bluntly noted that he did not recall Kissan's name, Kissan felt a twinge of offense but brushed it away quickly enough. With their Hei's declining finances in the years before Narmer returned and with his mother being practically on her own, attending and schmoozing with the other Egyptian nobility had not really been a priority. As such, it wasn't very surprising that Kissan was still a relatively new face to many of even his peers.
"Kissan" he noted with a gracious smile. He wondered if mentioning his sisters might ring a bell but decided against it given this man's reputation. No need to bring attention to his yet unmarried sisters to this...man.
Kissan raised an eyebrow as Akhenaten suggested going to find some wine and beautiful company. His eyes shifted briefly back towards the gathering inside and his brain quickly weighed the risks of slipping out without Narmer's consent. With a slow grin coming over his face he met eyes with the young man before him. "Yes. Lets see what we can find shall we?"
Following Akhenaten's lead, Kissan grinned at the adventures that would certainly await them.

“Kissan.” He repeated, hoping that saying it out loud might help him commit it to memory, though he wasn’t sure he would find the other man important enough in his own life to care about his name in the long run. He would at least do his best to remember it for however long they were in each other’s company that night.
He waited as the other man seemed to contemplate whether he wanted to go or not, and he was curious as to what might have prevented Kissan from joining him. Surely Akhenaten’s company would be better than the proper dinner party that was happening inside. At least with Hena, they could get blind drunk and forget each other even existed. That was his current plan at least.
Hena shrugged, not really bothered one way or another if the other didn’t want to come with him, he wasn’t going to stay there of his own will either way. He turned and began to head down towards the streets, and onward towards one of his favourite haunts. A tavern where the wine was quality, and the company of the women even more so.
“So why are you here then? You’re not marrying one of my sisters too are you?” He asked, though he didn’t really care if he was. The only one of his sisters he actually cared about was Nia, and his parents had tried to marry her off several times to no avail. For some reason, her suitors all seemed to be turned away. Partially by Nia and partially by the protective nature of Hena himself. He would not see his sister married to someone who was not worthy of her and she did not like.
He remembered briefly when she wished to marry some wandering pirate, it hadn’t lasted long but Hena had not been happy about her feelings either way. He wasn’t sure if this other man would think he was being rude, he truly had no idea about this man, he had no real idea about any of the other houses. Unless they were full of beautiful and eligible women, he could care less.
And Kissan was not a beautiful woman.
His feet took him naturally through the back alleys, not having to think about where he was going, it was a path he had tread many times. They arrived at the tavern shortly, one of the classier ones that Hena spent his time in. He stepped in, immediately motioning a serving girl over.
“A pitcher of wine and two cups.” He commanded, and she hurried off to grab that as Hena lead Kissan to a free table, taking a seat.

As they began down the streets, Kissan laughed at the other man's question. "No" he assured. "Not, not that they aren't beautiful!" Kissan backtracked and hoped he hadn't offended. Come to think of it, the sisters of his uncle's intended seemed to be scarce around their visits. "No, I have no idea who Uncle will try to arrange. Probably some other house. Its all politics anyway isn't it?"
When they reached the tavern, Kissan looked around in excited wonder and couldn't stop grinning as they sat down and Hena ordered them drink. "How about you? Any plans to marry? Surely your mother has plans. She seems the planning type" Kissan noted with a calculating gaze.
He glanced around, noting the absence of any of those in his normal friend group and the fact that there seemed to be a distinctly, older crowd here than he was used to. It was refreshing actually. He noticed a quiet group of young men disappear to a back room of the tavern and that a light colored smoke seemed to drift from the curtain as it was pushed aside and slid shut again.
In another dark corner, a whore seemed to be well on her way to making her coin and luring her catch back to a more private setting. Kissan's eyes widened slightly and looked away slightly embarrassed. It wasn't that he hadn't seen such before on the streets and such after dark but here in a tavern was..bold.

“I don’t care who marries the rest of them, only who marries Nia.” He said simply, he had never been one to hide his distaste for his other siblings. He had been best friends with Nia growing up and had not cared for any of his other siblings since he was very young. Neither had they cared for him. He preferred it that way, the only important people in his life were himself and one sister. Everyone else held no matter in his mind. Their parents could marry them off to who ever they wanted, and if they were unmarried when he took over the family, he would simply marry them off to the highest bidder. It was none of his business whether they were married to good men or not.
He snorted and shook his head.
“None that I am aware of yet. Though I am sure she is scheming to see me married off to some woman some time soon.” He said, clearly bitter about the subject. He didn’t wish to be married, though he knew it would be expected of him. No one said he would be forced to be faithful. And he had absolutely no plans to be. He would marry some woman, and would see that she provided children for him, but he would not stop his drinking and whoring ways. Who ever he married would need to just deal with that fact.
He raised an eyebrow as the other looked around and then looked away quickly, he seemed almost shy at the sight of the whore that was plying her wares in the back corner.
“She’s pretty isn’t she? Don’t let her fool you, she’s a bore in bed.” He said, making sure to speak loud enough for the woman to hear him, earning him a glare from the whore. He snickered and blew her a kiss, then turned his attention back to his current company.
“I get the feeling that you do not often find yourself in places such as this.” He said, grabbing a cup once their wine was brought, he filled both cups and held his up in a toast.
“Here’s to avoiding quality family time.” He said with a grin, then lowered his cup and took a long drink, downing half of the wine in one go. He set the cup down for the moment, wiping his mouth off on the back of his hand.
“I suppose we will be seeing each other more often, considering we will soon be connected by family in a way. So we ought to bond. Tell me, what do you do in your spare time? Or is everything completely serious all the time?” He asked, leaning back in his chair and getting comfortable as he did so. He was in no rush to get back to his family, knowing that his parents would likely be angry that he had ditched out on the dinner, and probably even angrier that he had taken this other boy with him. He wasn’t exactly known to be a good influence if he was being honest.

Kissan noted the bitterness in the man's voice as he said he didn't care who married the other sisters. Interesting, very interesting. Kissan considered for a moment how if he cared about who married the twins. He hoped that they'd be loved and respected of course. And that on some level they would be happy. But he also just kind of assumed that a good match would be made for them. Surely Narmer would not match them up with anyone who would mistreat them or make them unhappy.
Kissan was brought out of his embarrassment by Akhenaten's comment about the whore in the corner. "Oh" he said in a rather surprised tone but then quickly attempted to cover his naiveté. "Thanks for the heads up" he noted with a cocky smile. Kissan grabbed his cup as well and raised it to meet the toast. "Uncle's not really into...he's more into finances" he laughed and then nodded "Avoiding family time indeed!"
When the young man seemed interested in learning more about him, Kissan lit up slightly and felt his chest puff a bit. It was flattering that the older young man wished to know more about him. "Well" Kissan thought for a moment and ran through all of things that filled his days. Most of it would surely be boring to Akhenaten. "I like to hunt" he offered and seemed to gauge interest as he took a sip. "I like to go out with my mare Nefu and my cheetah Gahiji in the evenings. It is so silent out there and yet so alive. Sometimes we find something, sometimes we just ride for awhile." Kissan grew quiet as he remembered going out in the hunting chariot with his father. Shaking the memories away, Kissan smiled and took another sip.
"How about you? What do you do for fun? Spend all your days here?" Kissan asked with a teasing tone.

“Well, then it’s a good thing you ran into me!” He declared as Kissan said his uncle was into finances. He had been dealing with that lately, and he would much rather sit around and drink. Let someone else handle the finances. He thought as the some day head of the household, he should have someone else that would do the finances for him. Why should he have to worry about that, he was the noble after all. Let some common born fool with the notion of having power take care of that sort of business for him.
He held absolutely no interest in the hobbies that the younger man stated he was interest in. How boring? Did he really spend his days hunting and riding around with smelly animals? Was that what he considered a good time? Clearly this man had been mislead by that uncle of his as to the joys that the world offered. He would need to try and fix that.
Not this night though, this night he simply wanted to drink himself into oblivion before his mother figured out that he had left the house and sent guards out to come and collect him or something. He could not face another second back at the house at that dinner, at least not sober. Perhaps if he was blind drunk, the whole situation would be a lot more tolerable.
“I like to drink, I like to smoke opium and I like to fuck.” He stated simply, not shy about his activities. He knew he had a reputation that followed him, known for both his interest in wine and women, and his habit of letting his anger get the best of him. He was not ashamed of either things, after all what fun would life be if he followed the straight and narrow path his parents laid out for him? His brother had spent his entire life doing exactly that, and where did it get him?
“You need to spend less time with your uncle and more time with people your age. Get out there and experience life. There is more to it than... hunting.” He said, saying the last word with a bit of disgust, like it was one of the worst words that he could have been made to say. He couldn’t image how getting dirty and chasing down beasts could possibly be fun.
“I will take you under my wing, teach you how to live. How to be a real man.” He declared, the amount of wine he had had throughout the day was catching up to him, and his mood was improving now that he was away from the house. He did not hesitate to down the rest of his cup of wine, splashing a little on the table as he poured himself another cup of it. Kissan probably had no idea what he had just gotten himself into when he had agreed to go out drinking with Hena. It was likely the other would end up passed out on the floor with him, or dragging the H’Sheifa man home.

Kissan was a bit taken aback by the other man's bold declaration of his interests. Well that certainly was a narrow range of activities. Though to be fair, Kissan had only mentioned hunting so Akhenatan probably thought his hobbies were rather limited as well. When the man spat out the word hunting, Kissan frowned a bit embarrassed. "Well I do more than hunting..." he trailed off. He was about to list all the things he really did, desperately hoping the older man would find at least one of them of interest but he didn't have time to even begin before the man said he'd be taking Kissan under his wing.
Kissan had a moment of indecision but then decided that whatever this young nobleman had in mind was surely preferable to being considered a child. Taking a quick swig of the drink in front of him and swallowing it down with some effort, Kissan coughed before nodding enthusiastically. "Yes! I want to learn" he said with a grin that was quickly widening as the stronger alcohol sped its way through his veins.
"What's first?" he asked as another drink was poured for them both. In the back of his mind, there was a niggling fear that his Uncle would either track them here somehow or otherwise chastise him for the events that were sure to unfold this evening but he also saw little chance of escape. After all, what harm could it do? What knowledge might he gain? At the very least, this was far more fun than sitting in the that stuffy house.

Hena was not impressed with hunting, he found it a boring activity and it held absolutely zero interest to him. He could care less who killed what animal or what have you. For him, anyone who had to turn to hunting as an activity simply was a boring person. Though he didn’t mention such things to the other man, it was clear in his words and expression exactly what he thought of the others hobby. Akhenaten was not someone who was overly concerned with people being upset by his opinion on things. His opinion was an important one after all.
Akhenaten wasn’t really going to let the other argue either way, though he would likely forget his whole statement about taking the other under his wing the next day. At least for the night, Hena was going to attempt to make Kissan into a more interesting person. Someone with a real personality, who did not need to brag about hunting of all things.
“First, we drink. The wine ought to get you to loosen up a bit, and then we will worry about what comes next.” The Sheifa heir stated, taking another drink of his wine as his cup was refilled. He really didn’t have an actual plan, but if things went well the night would involve plenty of wine and women. Had Kissan even been with a woman before? He had no idea, but at his age Akhenaten sure hoped so. He was far too old to not have had at least one women.
“So what else do you do for fun then? You said it wasn’t just hunting. Lets hear the rest.” He stated, his eyes scanning the crowd of people in the tavern that was slowly growing the longer they stayed there. Perhaps Kissan would reveal something that the two of them had in common, though he doubted it. They didn’t seem to be similar in anyway, at least not in personality. Kissan was a lot more timid than Hena had ever been. Even in his younger years, Akhenaten had been what most would consider bold.
Speaking of women, his eyes trailed a rather gorgeous woman as she walked into the tavern, seemingly unencumbered by the presence of any kind of man.
“Perfect.” He stated, taking another drink before he pointed at the woman.
“Go over there and pick her up.” He stated, wanting to see if the other could do such a thing. Did he have any skills with women? So far he hadn’t exactly provided riveting conversation to Hena, but perhaps he was better with women than with making friends. If not, then he supposed it was up to him to teach Kissan how to pick up women. He was sure by the end of the night, the other man would be thanking him as he left with a beautiful woman on his arm. Or perhaps Hena would just leave with the woman on his own arm instead. He hadn’t decided yet. He wanted to see how Kissan would do first.

The alcohol flowed easily and Kissan began to ramble on about his other common activities besides hunting. They included but were not limited to lessons of topics ranging from writing to history to mathematics, teaching his cheetah tricks, attending noble events with his uncle and chatting up noble ladies. He did not notice the growing annoyance and boredom of his host but was slightly surprised when the topic suddenly changed to picking up a woman.
Kissan glanced at the intended target and his eyes grew a bit. He was used to charming women, but not in brothels and not while intoxicated. Even so his charm had been more boyish in nature and not with an intended result beyond normal court flirting.
"Her?" he asked quietly, observing her. "Right." he took another swig of the alcohol. "Her" he nodded.
Standing a bit too suddenly, he wavered just a little before fully regaining his balance. Nodding to himself, he started towards her and rehearsed what he planned to say.
Coming within a respectful distance but close enough that she could hear him without raising his voice "Excuse my ignorance, but surely you must be a goddess in human form my lady, would you honor me then with your name?" his smile was charming, his eyes attentive, his body poised as if waiting on her every word.

Hena was bored as hell as the other talked about what he liked. He had no idea that someone could be this boring. It took everything in him to not get up and walk away in the middle of Kissan talking. The only thing that was keeping him there and keeping him sort of sane was the wine that he was drinking. Had there not been alcohol here and he was talking to the other man, he would have completely lost his mind.
But the other seemed a little intoxicated as he stood to try and go pick up the woman that Hena had pointed out, and finally he perked up a little. This ought to be interesting. He moved to stand close enough that he was not in the way, but he could hear what the other was going to say.
He nearly started laughing as he heard what the other thought was a good pick up line. He managed to bite his lip and cover his mouth with his hand to keep himself from bursting out in laughter. Was that the best he could do in terms of a pick up line? Not that it would take much to pick up any woman here, but Hena found it rather entertaining either way.
He shook his head a little and looked towards the door. He could escape now, without having to say good bye, without having to risk this other man following him or knowing where he was.
And that was exactly what he was going to do. He wanted to ditch his boring company for the night and really start his evening. And it wasn’t like Kissan was going to go and tell anyone that Hena was off drinking and had ditched the dinner to do so. The other man seemed to be drunk enough himself, that they would both get in trouble if he said anything.
So as Kissan was distracted with the woman, Hena left some money on the table to pay for their wine, and then he ducked out the door and hurried down the street and away, off to the next tavern. He at least wouldn’t make Kissan pay for the wine, after all, Hena had been the one who made him come out drinking that night.
