In the city of Midas, good news is to be had, at last. The mines beneath the capitol have finally reached a lode that workers have been attempting to get at for some time. Some say that it was a desire for speed that caused someone to set off the explosion that caused the fire three weeks ago. Others say the fire was purely an accident and that the new vein of ore had nothing to do with it. All anyone knows at this time is that the cavern in which the new vein has been located is finally accessible. The royal family and mining officials have set aside a day to investigate the progress, while the lower classes of the city continue to help out with repairing the structures damaged by flame.

With the recent news finally something of a good turn after the consecutive few rounds of bad news the city of Midas have been getting, a sense of relief and happiness seem to finally settle over the capitol of Colchis of recent days ever since the news of the new lode had filtered through for everyone to know. While it was conventional for the royal family to check on the progress upon each new discovery, for it to be something of good after so much bad, meant that a greater show of unity had to be put front, and as such, Evras was now being attended to by maid's as she had a forest green chiton wrapped on her body. Held up by pure golden filligree clasps on her shoulders and waist, the woman found herself quickly out of breathe, and was relieved as her maid's sat her down to prepare her hair and accessories.
While it had been an uneventful last few days, the Kotas manor was infinitely quieter with the departure of Vangelis and Athanasia to Taengea, and with her husband so often away or with her son to train him in the military arts. Not that Evras complained. As the seasons changed, she suspected herself catching a chill of sorts, spending much time sleeping, with her muscles crying for attention. Each night saw Evras in a warm bath in her attempt to soothe her sore muscles, and even now she found herself quickly tired after standing for nigh on half an hour as her maid's painstakingly put her chiton on.
It wasn't a complicated piece by any means. The forest green silk fell just below her knees, a length that was necessitated for the visit to the mines meant she did not want her dress to be dragging on the floor. With the same thought of less hassle in mind, she had instructed her maids to pile her dark hair on her head in a simple chignon, weaving a plain golden filligree through her hair so it acted as a makeshift tiara. She had never really gotten used to wearing it, and opted for alternatives when she could. Court sessions meant Evras had no choice. But a visit to the mines was acceptable.
With two wide golden bangles slipped up to her upper arm, she slid her feet into a thin golden sandle that was weaved up to her lower calf, before stepping out to the corridor of the room she shared with her husband. She had left her son in the care of the servants, instructing them to dress him as was appropriate for a visit to the mines in accompaniment of the royal family, and it was her offspring that Evras now went in search of to pick him before waiting for the rest of the royal family in the foyer of the manor.

It had taken two weeks - two weeks too long. Using information Maeva had sent him after her ferocious greeting of him upon his return from Taengea, Magnus had pored over the reports of the managers from the mine, comparing it to the notes Maeva had shared with him from the underbelly of the city. Between catching up with his contacts, attending the court session (in which he found himself thoroughly distracted by a lady of noble birth), and spending time to ensure his parents and sister were well taken care of, Magnus found himself working late into the night before he finally noticed the discrepency in the numbers before and after the fires.
In haste, Magnus had presented his information to the second prince - the highest in command in the absence of the King and Crown Prince, and with much haste, action had been taken. Even in between the discovery of the new lode and the celebration and joyous vibe that had seemed to catch on like fire across the Upper Levels, Magnus had found himself down at the mines almost everyday as attempts were made to unearth the unaccounted for slaves, as well as the manager who was supposedly with them at the time of occurence.
Of course, now that two weeks had been over and gone, any chances of them being alive was slim to none at this point, but at the very least, Magnus wanted to find their bodies, if only to do away with any other reason why attempts on lives may have been made. If he could confirm that all of the bodies and people unaccounted for were simply slaves or people of no import, he can truly do away with the paranoia.
Every morning found Magnus awake before sunrise, with his ablutions quickly done before he headed out to the mines. Dressed simply in pants, leather vest over his tunic, his hair combed back, the spymaster would oversee the work, his eyes alert and taking note of everyone who came and went. In the evening, as the slaves and mine workers headed off, he would head to the taverns and seedier parts of town, listening as he drank, tavern hopping and ever alert. Anyone who saw him now could easily see the eyebags he wore - but Magnus was nothing if not busy and responsible. It did not help that the nature of his job meant he had to always be read to leave Colchis, and as such that meant Magnus always wanted to finish and see to his responsibilities as quickly as possible.
That day was no different. The arrival of the royal family would see him interspersed with the mine managers, observing their work and conversing with them regarding the progress of gaining access to the new lode which had been discovered. He occasionally helped out with the damaged structures, but Magnus was otherwise not trained in such labor work, his expertise lying more in the art of listening and analyzing then actual work. Only as the carriage carrying the royal family arrived, would Magnus put aside his discussions to head to their arrival, greeting them as he should.

His mind had been uneasy and moving a mile a minute ever since the dikastirio chamber had been filled with whispers of his wife's lover. Though he had done his best to appear as a changed man since the night of their fight and his murder of the man he had believed to be the interloper, doubt had been eating away at him. Keeping it within, he smiled as usual when he met his wife though he was silent as they moved through the foyer and took off in the carriage to inspect the mine. He was dressed simply minus the circlet on his own head since he represented the leadership of the royal house with Vangelis away in Taengea.
Zanon wore a deep red knee length chiton with brown himation to disguise any dust or dirt being down in the mine would bring, the material the only show of finery aside from the gold band on his head atop the hair he hadn't cut in a long while. One day soon he ought to trim it he supposed, but for now it hung to about his jawline which still sported his usual beard. The carriage ride was a mostly quiet one. He was tired from all of the additional duties and since he had attempted to cut back on his drinking he hadn't felt entirely himself without the aid of rest from the wine.
Taking Evras' hand and pressing a kiss to the back of it, as they descended he helped her down and tucked her arm in the crook of his as they approached the mine. Dion would be behind them somewhere with Silas and Yiannis, their mother remaining at the palace instead to take a moment of rest. He had descended into these mines before but as far as he knew Evras had never been down in the darkness, and he had no wish to expose her to such things, but she was a princess of Colchis and had to be seen as just as strong and capable as the menfolk.
"I would prefer if you remained on the surface. The air is not so good in the depths and you already have been so tired." He spoke under his breath, concern clear in his tone as he gave her hand a squeeze. It would be her choice but though he was still suspicious of her activities with another he cared for her as much as ever since he had come to his senses about the spell.
Approaching the master informer, Zanon dropped his wife's hand and smiled at the other man, greeting him with a familiar nod. "Magnus. It is good to see you. What have you found?"

Dion was a serious bundle of energy as soon as light started streaming through the windows, but he was also comfortable in the nest of blankets. He yawned and then stretched like a cat. Today was not a day for him to be slacking off. His father had pulled him om to his lap and patiently tried to explain to Dion about the trip to the mines that would happen the next day. That led to something along the lines of the two playing twenty questions, though it was likely more then that.
Dion was a very curious young boy and once he got going it was very hard to stop him. He had to know anything and everything.
The servants dressed him in shades of red for both his chiton and himation, though the later was a deeper and darker shade meant to hide any dirt and grime that might be picked up along the way during the day. They tried to get him to wear the small fillet that had been made for him, and he flat out refused and threw a loud fit along the way. Eventually he hushed, but the servants knew to tread lightly. They slipped his feet into sandals and then looked on in consternation as he took off into the palace at a run.
He'd travel to the mines inthe company of his uncle Silas and accompany his father into the mines, where it would be dark and new to him.

The mines was no place for womenfolk, of that Magnus knew. While he was not one who only assumed that the womenfolk was only good for sewing and dancing (for Colchian women were made of stronger stuff), yet the mines proved to be the one area he would rather not see them enter. As such, as Zanon approached Magnus nodded to the princess, curiosity clear on his face before he addressed the prince's queries with a quick and easy tone.
"We are still attempting to locate the last of the few bodies from the mine collapse a few weeks ago, Your Highness." the Master Informer spoke, arms crossed behind him as he led them on nearer to another mine entrance, this one leading to the one where the new lode had been found. For once, Colchis has had good news after a barrage of bad events one after the other. Perhaps the Gods are smiling down on them again? He certainly hoped so, for hardy as they are, he did not know how much more pillage the rocky kingdom could take.
"The structures are slowly being replaced, and await a final shipment of building material to come in within the next week before the Lower Levels would be fully reconstrcted again. For now however, this mine is ready for your inspection, Your Highness." Giving a respectful bow, the Master Informer took a step back, allowing the prince to enter, and offering the offspring of Zanon a friendly smile should he follow his father.
As he straightened, he noted how the princess hung back, after she had reached out to give her husband's hand a squeeze, as if a silent reminder for him to remain safe and return later. Magnus was not surprised, for he suspected the prince would not enjoy watching the princess descend with him, nor was she dressed for such activity. Instead, Princess Evras was escorted back to the main work area where she would converse with miners on break, ensuring the assistance of the royal family whilst the men were below ground.
Following behind once the entourage had entered the mine completely, Magnus brought up the rear as they traversed the lamp-lit caverns to the discovered gold vein. In time to come, Colchis would benefit from the newly discovered gold, to be sold or made into jewelry, either way it would bring more riches to the kingdom, which would do well with it at this point if only to assist in recovering from the storm and fire. Exploring the mines was familiar, and would be completed within the hour itself, before Magnus would return to his daily tasks, and perhaps even find the time to share a meal with his family for the night. Ever a man of responsibility, he would see through his task at the mines first, before the rest of the day.

Dion stopped and looked around, taking it all in. He moved closer to his father, curious. He listened to the man tell his father about what they were doing in the mines. He vaguely remembered being told about the accident and being sad at hearing that people had been hurt or died. He was careful to watch his step as they moved towards what could have been a mine.
He knew too that there had been much that brought what could be seen as bad luck. He didn't know if the gods were mad or not. He recalled asking his parents, but their reply left something to be desired and left him to draw his own conclusions.
Dion moved to peer at the mine, his eyes narrowing as his focused on the rocks, looking for patterns. As they entered the mine, the young prince kept close to his father, his eyes looking like a pair of dark pair of orbs, as he drank everything in.

The trip to the mines was silent as the small family sat within the carriage, and Evras did not bother pestering for Zanon for conversation either. She knew her husband had been busy with responsibilities in the absence of his elder brother, and he had barely returned to their chambers save to sleep and freshen up for more meetings and duties. On top of that however, Evras had been unusually worn out herself of late, and found herself needing the assistance of her lady's maid to wake up a few mornings, when she usually did so herself ever since the birth of Dion.
Answering her son's questions as brief as she could without sounding short with him, she smiled as they arrived, accepting Zanon's help while ensuring Dion descended the carriage safely as well.
Allowing her hand to be tucked in the crook of Zanon's, it was a crowd of people who met the royals who had just arrived at the site of the new mine which have found a new vein of gold. The people of Midas were obviously excited at this new turn of events, especially with the slew of bad luck which seemed to have hit their kingdom of late.
But was she supposed to go down? The princess chewed on her lip a little. She did not want to seem weak, but descending the mines was not something she had done before. Thankfully however, Zanon was quick to assure her it would be alright, and Evras shot her husband a grateful look as she nodded. "I'll stay here, but I think Dion would like to go down with you. He is due to be at the mines soon, is he not? This may be a good opportunity for him to get familiarized with this." Evras suggested, as she motioned at Dion to come forward, and nudged him towards his father. Their reconcilement meant Dion too, had to relearn on how to be with his father, and Evras wanted nothing more then to ensure the peace between them both.
Hanging back after giving her husband's hand a silent squeeze of support, one of Evras's hands rested on her torso as she watched the Master Informer lead Zanon and the remainder of the men down the mines to inspect the new vein of gold, whilst Evras returned to a covered main work area. There, she waved at a few lady's maids she had brought to bring the jars of fresh water, which she was quick to instruct it to be passed out to the workers.
Conversing with them as the time passed, it was much later before the men from the mines finally emerged, looking dustier and grime sticking on their feet, but definitely of better spirits after seeing the newest source of gold for Midas - good news for the royal family for sure.
Making her excuses from the conversation she had been in with the head of the miners, Evras picked her way across the debris and rocks, and smiled at her husband as she approached them. Looking down to look for her son, Evras laughed as she reached out to push away the dust that had collected atop his dark locks, not questioning her husband till they returned. Whatever it was, it couldn't have been bad news, but Colchis could do with some bright horizons for now.

Dion was not exactly quiet as the family traveled towards the minds, but he also seemed to have a built-in radar that told him that his mother was not herself and that made him worried. He did his best to keep the questions so that they did not add to her burdens.
When the carriage came to a halt, he was helped out and then he moved to help his father in helping Evras out of the carriage the best he could. Once she was tucked into his father, Dion took his place on her other side and then turned to regard the gathered people.
Dion began to bounce happily at the idea of accompanying his father down into the mine. He liked going places that he had never gone before and investigating what there was to see. It was something that he could do with his father alone, which was something that seemed to be rare nowadays.
Don did his best to listen as the Master explained things. He may not have understood what he was going on about but the young prince knew that there was a time to ask questions and a time to listen, an this was one for the latter.
