Nafretiri was in the chemistry lab performing an experiment for her required physics class when suddenly everything went haywire. She was supposed to make a little, not cause an explosion.
Perhaps her instructor had told the students to use too much, but although Nafretiri's major was pharmacodynamics, this was nearly frightening enough to make her consider changing her major to something that required fewer science classes. She was pretty sure that when she chose the study of the side effects of medical drugs, she hadn't thought so many of the more...interactive classes would be necessary.
Because yeah, when you mixed the ingredients for what was essentially pre-modern napalm , which would be a fact she would learn later, things definitely interacted. She wondered what people would think of her now. None of her other science classes had gone this badly, not even environmental science, which wasn't great when she had to do projects. Naf's suspected allergy to dust made that stuff torture. And sure, she'd thrown up when they'd dissected frogs, because they were an Egyptian symbol of fertility, but other than that, she prided herself on her generally good grasp of scientific knowledge.
Until now. Well, it wasn't the first error she'd ever made in her life. Just one of the more major ones. Thank the gods the fire alarm had gone off! There were few times in her life that Nafretiri had ever run faster, even though the stairs seemed a little harder to take than usual, but perhaps that was her fear talking. While the fire had finally been able to be extinguished, she still decided it was safer to go outside, and wondered if anyone else in the science building had done the same. Rushing through the doors- though that was difficult too, as one had to pull to get them open- she took what seemed like her first deep breath since this whole thing had started,

Nikolias had just dismissed his early afternoon English class and had been about to get some lunch when, in the middle of walking towards his car, he noticed a bunch of students huddled several feet away from the science building.
Good gods, not another explosion. He wondered which unlucky student was the cause of the whole mess. Then again, in a science lab such things had a tendency to happen fairly frequently. It could have been anyone. Still, this one had sounded particularly bad. He hoped no one was injured.
"Is everything all right here?" Nikolias called, hoping one of the students would answer him. He was not a paramedic, but hehad some medical experience due to having worked in the medic tent in Afghanistan, though he fervently tried not to think about his last tour of duty when he had ended up in there as a patient himself.
Hearing the piercing wail of sirens that signaled the arrival of som of the e members of the campus police force, he sighed in some semblance of relief, though he knew it would probably take the local fire department somewhat longer to arrive.
"Everyone should hopefully be out of the science lab and any neighboring buildings by now," called another professor. "Count your blessings that you dismissed your class before this fiasco occurred."
Nikolias silently agreed with the man, though he felt sorry for the student who had caused all this. He knew what it could be like when things spiraled out of control.
He recognized from his morning class a usually poised young lady, who despite a certain fear in her eyes, always seemed studious, smart, and motivated to learn. She dipped her curly head in shame as a telltale blush began to color her cheeks, where before she had been quite pale.
"Nafretiri?" he whispered in surprise.
