The visit to her dearest cousin, Emilia, was not one of goodwill as she presented it to be. Obviously. There were certain things the young princess needed to hear, and Chara would ensure it was from her. Who better?
Yes, she could have met with her dearest brother to inform him of her intentions, and hear his own feedback, but he was so busy nowadays -- interrupting him did not behoove her. Besides, she was only going to get a feel for what the princess knew...or thought she knew. Elias needn’t know all of that.
She’d thought the guise of a little ‘girl time’ would be attractive enough to Emilia. It should not have raised any eyebrows. Chara was merely the concerned cousin hoping to lift the spirits of her kin. Well, she intended to do more than lift the princess’ spirits, but that need not be common knowledge. She was a concerned cousin, nothing more.
Upon reaching Emilia’s rooms, Chara opened her arms excitedly, going to embrace her cousin. “Cousin!” she smiled, “it is so, so good to see you!” Not really. Emilia, sweet, sweet Emilia, didn’t have much between the ears. Chara fully understood not everyone was blessed with intelligence like she, but Emilia? The poor girl would likely hurt herself if there wasn’t someone there to tell her where to go and what to do. A role Chara did not mind taking in the slightest. The girl’s gullibility would be wholly insufferable if Chara had not thought she could make use of it.
And she would make use of it.
Releasing her cousin, Chara looked to Emilia with a sympathetic expression. “How are you feeling?” she asked gently, “With everything going on, I hope you’re not feeling too terribly.”

With the little amount of people and contact time she had with other people, Emilia was spending an inordinate amount of time with her puppy. Now almost six months old, Labros was almost at his full size, his head reaching Emilia's waist, with a coat that gleamed under the son. Extremely attached to his mistress, Emilia was rarely seen without the mastiff two steps away from her side, and in return Labros snarled at everyone but Emilia unless told otherwise by the princess.
When she was told by her servants that the Lady Chara of Stravos had arrived to see her, a little curiosity entered Emilia's mind. She had never been particularly close with any of her Stravos cousins, yet ever since the disaster that had struck her kingdom and childhood home, she has seemingly been spending an excessive amount of time with them. Yet with Emilia's straightforward, unquestioned mind, she did not wonder why that was the case, and merely welcomed their presence with a smile.
That was exactly what Emilia did that day, when Chara entered. Remembering to lay a hand on Labros's head so the mastiff remained lying but alert next to her bed, Emilia greeted her elder cousin with a similar but slightly hesitant embrace as well, and flashed Chara a watery smile. "As well as we could be, although horribly bored. There isn't much one can do within the palati walls, and I've exhausted all avenues." she replied as they released.
Emilia moved over to the set of kline's and armchairs in the corner of her room, inviting Chara to sit on the floral silk upholstered set, before taking a seat herself. Set against a cliff, her room had no way up through her window, which was why Emilia was happy to have her windows opened so the salty breeze would perpetually circulate through her room. The curtains were bound by golden cords, and her room was otherwise uncarpeted except for a maroon carpet underneath her chest of clothes at the foot of her bed, which was exactly where Labros had been laying.
The moment Emilia took a seat on her settee however, the mastiff immediately padded over and took up his position around her feet. The princess smiled, scratching behind the ears of her pet, as she gave instructions to the servants to bring some refreshments and drinks, before directing her attention back to Chara again. "And you, Chara? I hope all has been well for you and yours."

Chara was not fond of dogs. They had not done anything in particular to offend her. She was not frightened of them, but she most certainly preferred the company of horses. The glance she spared towards Labros was more cautious than it was disdainful. As long as the beast did not approach her, then she saw little point in paying it any more mind. After all, her focus was not on Emilia’s pet, but rather the princess herself.
She accepted Emilia’s invitation to sit beside her without question, although she tensed ever so slightly when Labros approached to sit beside his mistress. Her experience with dogs was negligible but she knew well enough of the sharp teeth they possessed. She doubted Emilia would house an aggressive animal, but they were unpredictable when excited. Though her focus was on Emilia, a side eye would be kept on her dog, in case the beast felt particularly friendly.
Hearing of Emilia’s boredom, made Chara put a fairly dramatic hand over her chest, as if the news had caused her true pain. It hadn’t, really, but the point was more for show than anything else. “We too are doing well, though I came to see you for a reason. We are, even distantly, still family. So if I can help at all in making you feel less trapped, I will do what I can.” The diversion from her own family was as intentional as what she said next.
“It does not sit well with me that you are bored to tears. I would think a princess would have as many options as she wished at her disposal. Nonetheless, surely there is something I can do to alleviate the monotony?” Chara had her own methods of alleviating boredom — and that method was named Rafail — but she somehow suspected that Emilia would not be so interested. She was a prude with no taste in men, after all. She hoped an offer of help would make Emilia more amenable to what she was really after. A little sugar never hurt, after all.
