The thunder above had drawn her attention before she could properly observe everyone else who had been in the small group. The princess had been so focused on Xan that she hadn't immediately noticed Lady Melina, and by the time the girl approached her, Xene felt absolutely horrible for overlooking her. Add in the fact that the rain had soaked her own chiton and the princess herself was also a little unsettled.
With her blonde brows knit together, Xene faced the young lady, a brightness and friendliness in her gaze. She didn't want Melina to feel slighted, though she could tell that the girl did and that hurt. Xene wasn't mean. She wasn't cruel. She enjoyed the company of people and she had enjoyed Melina's company at least once or twice in the past. "Lady Mel-" Xene was cut off by Melina quite literally sneezing in her face and on her chiton. The princess had to pause, her heart-stopping in her chest. This was not the grossest thing that had happened to her, so she didn't take outright offense to it. Especially because the rain and the weather did not make for comfortable sinuses.
Bringing her hand up to wipe at her face, Xene started to feel even more embarrassed. First, she'd entirely overlooked Lady Melina, and now the girl was sneezing on her for a second time. This one hit just her gown and the princess had to straighten and lift her chin, her expression a little blank as she composed herself. From there, it was an entirely overwhelming situation with Xan first laughing, which Xene caught, and then trying to wipe snot off of her clothes.
"No," Xene was trying to say, her brows furrowing again. "Its really alright. These things happen. I would be lying if I said I hadn't sneezed on someone after a rainstorm," she said quietly. But then Xan was starting to usher her off and the princess started to feel even more overwhelmed. Melina had spent so much time apologizing to her that she hadn't gotten to apologize herself, and the entire situation was making her head spin.
And suddenly she just really didn't want to be there. For all of the joy that she felt with Olympia and her niece being there, the princess now found herself, and her lady, soaked to the bone, quietly humiliated and feeling guilty for being such a rude hostess to one of the valued guests of the festival. Putting a mask of a smile on, Xene reached for one of her ladies, "I think its time that we take our leave. I'll send my sister a letter post-haste for a private visit," she said quietly, and then her ladies were rushing to mobilize and escort Xene back to their carriage. A shiver trailed up her spine as another crack of thunder, and this time, a streak of lightning flashed across the sky, making the princess' decision that much firmer.
With a few murmured goodbyes, the Princess was in the process of taking her leave and making her final exit, saddened that she wasn't going to get to enjoy the entirety of the festival.

The thunder that crashed in the sky seemed to be a herald of doom. A warning perhaps. It quickened Eleni’s steps even as her heart seemed to race, hoping this wasn’t a mistake. Surely her friend would be happy to see her still? Things couldn’t have changed as drastically as she feared... She certainly hoped not.
Any trepidation that Eleni had felt in approaching vanished as her friend greeted her, relief in her voice. A smile spread across her lips even as she dipped her head almost sheepishly. Still, she reached out, meet Olympia’s offered hand halfway, finding immense comfort from the simple gesture. “It is truly wonderful to see you again,” she repeated, much more relaxed than she had been initially. Her gaze turned skyward as the rain fell, Eleni wished she had brought a himation of her own.
“Of course,” she replied without hesitation. “We have much to catch up on.” She leaned forward, gazing closer at the babe tucked against her mother’s chest. She seemed to be fascinated by the falling water. At least until the next crack of thunder came. That seemed to startle away any calmness. The baby quickly set to wailing, forcing Eleni to draw back in both surprise and amusement.
“She does have quite the set of lungs on her,” Eleni agreed with a laugh. Somehow that took her back to the days when she was helping her dear friend in her pursuit of her now-husband. It had been so long since she felt such fast companionship with someone. At least... someone who didn’t also share her bed at night’s end. They had been partners in crime, getting into mischief and gossip. At least before her friend married into royalty.
Her hand tightened slightly on Pia’s. “Come on, let’s fine somewhere dry to talk,” she added, tugging her friend in the opposite direction of the sister she was avoiding. “I’m dying to hear everything.”
