The ship had hit a squall on their last leg back, that their estimated arrival day was delayed by almost three days by the time their vessal docked in the Vasiliadon port. While the captain had not wanted to press on upon nightfall, Evelli had insisted, wanting to arrive on home shores again. With Olympia and Tisiphone to think of, Selene's excessive isolation and Nana's own sour experience with men in Colchis, Evelli was up to her head with issues, and just needed Georgios's help with her daughter's. She's done the best she could in the last week of sail, but now that they were so close to home, she just wanted to be there.
So when they finally did dock, the rest of the kingdom was sound asleep as the brunette arranged for carriages to bring them and all their luggages back. With how late it was, the woman merely instructed the servants to leave the unpacking till the next morning, watched over to made sure Olympia and Tisiphone were safely in bed, popped in to speak a few words with Selene and Nana, that by the time she could finally find her way to her own bedchamber, Evelli was beginning to feel lightheaded.
Gingerly pushing the door open so as not to disturb her husband who Evelli guessed was already asleep, while she wanted to remain as quiet as possible, the woman was not someone who had night vision.
Reaching out to try and feel her way to the bed proved to be a futile attempt when she suddenly knocked over what was likely a metal bowl atop a dresser, which fell with a loud clang on the wooden floor, causing Evelli to start, before a quick "Sorry!" flew out of her mouth. She paused, listening in the dark, before asking softly, "Georgios? Did I wake you?"

The nights were long and the days even longer when the ship was known to be delayed. There were messages that had been sent that had made it seem as though they should have been home a few days ago. Georgios was tossing and turning in a light sleep when he rolled to rub his head. There was just darkness all around. A hand that reached to the area of the bed that was a bunch of nothingness beside him just felt around. Still nothing. One might think that after a month or more he would have been used to the entire bed to himself - he wasn't.
Even with his twilight sleep, he didn't hear the door and didn't hear the steps. However, he did hear the loud clang when the dish hit the ground. Georgios shot up from the bed and started to grab for wherever it was that he had a knife on the floor. Despite being a pacifist on most occasions, he was ready to defend himself. There was no reason for anyone to be in his room unless they were here for something nefarious.
Then a breath of relief washed over him when he heard Evelli's voice. It was good, too. He couldn't find the dagger... it was gone. Or tucked somewhere not in reach. Georgios blinked and rubbed his eyes. "Yes, but I would want you to."
"Are you alright?" He turned to the edge of the bed to where he had heard the loud noise. Long arms extended to reach for her and help guide her to where their bed was. Not that he was needy for anything, he was just grateful she was home. That meant he might actually be able to slip into a deep sleep for the first time in weeks. Worry of his wife and daughters dying at sea was gone... they were fine. They were here.

She heard her husband scramble, although for what Evelli wasn't quite sure. She knew Georgios likely kept some form of weapon to protect themselves should robbers or miscreants decide to make themselves known in the night, but Evelli had never bothered to find out what they were. Still, it made her smile just a little, warmth suffusing her heart when she finally heard her husband's gentle voice. It had been far too long since she's heard that, and the difficult trip and weary state she was in merely made her long for it even more.
With eyes having adjusted to the darkness by then, she could make out his faint form on the bed, and made a semi-blind grasp, thankful that she found his extended hand. "I'm fine." she murmured, using his form and hand to finally seat herself upon her bed. She was still dressed in her travelling outfit, but being too tired to change out of it properly, the woman merely pulled out the pin holding her hair together. Unclasping the fibulae over each shoulder, she placed all the golden ornaments down on a nearby table, and then allowed the garment to fall as she crawled into bed with only the sheer under-garment that covered her.
They had exchanged letters of course, but the letters were sparse and far in between each other due to the length of time it took for messengers to get across. The most she had ever exchange with him was when Georgios had his own opinions regarding Selene's intended husband, and she was quite sure he would have even more to say once she's told him.
Curling against her husband's form, the woman yawned, pulling the sheets over her semi-naked form as she finally heaved a heavy, contented sigh to be back in a safe cocoon of her home. "Nana and Olympia are home. You can meet your granddaughter tomorrow, I assume." she paused, wondering if she should say so now, but decided to go with it anyway. He would want to know. "Selene is home too." she murmured, her tone slightly graver then it was before. Their last missive had been an understanding that Selene would be remaining in Colchis to prepare for her wedding as Evelli would bring the girl's home and send her dressmaker over to Colchis to assist Selene - that their eldest was home showed a huge and drastic change to plans.

His eyes squinted slightly as he observed her form in the dark of the room. He was looking to see if she was telling the truth or maybe just placating him for the sake of not being more worried about her than he already was. Georgios noticed no limp and no more pause as she pulled the ornate pieces of her garment to allow for it to fall to the floor. His breath caught as helped hold the blankets up.
Arms wrapped around his arms around her when he felt her warmth against him. Lips were placed on her head while taking a deep breath in. She smelled just as he knew that she would. Reminders of so many years of memories. Thanks rushed through his body and was sent up to whichever of the gods were listening. Whichever of the ones had a hand in bringing his wife home safely - along with the daughters she mentioned.
Nana and Olympia were expected. His head nodded silently against hers within the pause that she had offered. It was what she said next that caused his mind to wander and his heart to pulse quicken. The last he had known it was all going through. The letters he had known about and even the one to himself about all of this. Selene was supposed to be preparing for a wedding, even if he had reservations now considering how quickly being queen could change life for the worse instead of better.
He groaned and leaned back to lay on his back and let go of Evelli with a heavy sigh. Eyes stared up at the ceiling in the black of the night. There was nothing to see. He might as well have had his eyes closed. "Is Selene alright?" Perhaps, that was a stupid question. However, he knew that there were some who were able to keep their hearts guarded when it came to things arranged like this. But, he had thought she liked the man. "What happened?" He tried to keep his tone even, but there was a slight bite to the words.

As she expected, the father would fuss over Selene being home. He knew even less about her supposed intended then Evelli did, and that's only because Evelli had been in Colchis the whole time this had been going on. No doubt, Georgios would now want a full blow by blow on what had occured, if only to properly rage against the unfairness that had been sentenced to his daughter, but at the same time, Evelli was unsure how much of it was her story to tell, and how much of it she wanted to leave to Selene.
Neither did she know how much of it Selene could retell without reopening old wounds.
"She is... as good as she can be. Sad, but I believe our Selene strong enough to get through this." " Evelli answered after a long pause to consider her words. They often had nightly conversations when their daughter's had been younger, after they had all went to bed and husband and wife could just enjoy each other's company without placating the attention-seeking of five young girl's. This time however, it felt far more pregnant and heavy with meaning. How could she tell him what happened so it wouldn't breach her own daughter's privacy, but not madden Georgios enough to send him off to Colchis at this very moment?
"Other... more delicate matters cropped up. Things we were not privy to knowing prior to Selene agreeing to his offer of marriage, I believe." Evelli finally decided upon, just enough truth for there to not anger Georgios, but not so much that it would go past what the young lady would want her father to know, Evelli surmised. Taking a deep sigh, she found his hand in the darkness and twined her fingers and gave it a tight squeeze. "Find her. She'll want to speak to you. She wants her Papa more then anything now. And... maybe Nana as well." The men in Colchis may have been promising, but Evelli had spent a week in a boat with two heartbroken daughter's and one recovering from childbirth.
It had been an experience she wasn't sure she wanted to repeat ever again.

His eldest was one of the strongest of the girls. They all had their positives and a few negatives (though he would never say any of those out loud). He could see where people had their preferences on which of his daughters were their cup of tea, but he remembered Vangelis' letter. It had been bold and apparently it was now just the past. Georgios could hear the apprehension in Evelli's voice. He was asking the wrong person, but he was desperate for the facts.
A fist clenched around the blankets. It was by some miracle that he wasn't out of the bed and down the hall to greet Selene. She was the one who needed him... she had been put aside for what? Evelli was soon revealing more of the story - however, in a vague sort of way. Something delicate that surfaced from before the betrothal? "He asked her. How could ... " A low growl rumbled through his throat. Fine, it was fine. What was done, was done. There would be no going back. He held his breath for just a moment and then released it into the night. Georgios knew that he needed to just calm down.
The Lord leaned back as he was just about to settle into a comfortable sleep with his wife back at his side when she had mentioned another daughter's name. He pushed back up. "Nana? My children will never be to Colchis ever again." Georgios shook his head. He would have to find that daughter as well. On top of Olympia, which at least he was already privy to most of that chaotic mess. A hand pressed to his chest for just a moment.
He plopped back and allowed the contains of the cushion beneath them and the blankets poof out. Well, so much for the calm night of sleep. Instead, he would be concocting and playing with the order and occasion that he would be able to casually come up with the right words to say. The right way to allow them to tell him what they wanted of what had happened. Right now, he could spit curses at Colchis as he closed his eyes and breathed hard.
Georgios leaned over after a minute or two when he remembered that he hadn't given Evelli a kiss. His lips pressed to hers. "I am glad you are home. I love you.

I love you.
Evelli could almost hear the protective papa snarl coming up in his voice even as his voice trailed off halfway through questioning why in the world Selene had returned to Taengea. There was no doubt Georgios would have plenty of questions, but whatever it was, she would appease him when she was awake not more liable to say something she wasn't supposed to say. On top of that, Evelli would really rather allow Selene to explain it herself - straight from the horses mouth was a thing afterall.
So instead, the woman merely groaned as Georgios insisted none of his daughter's will ever go to Colchis again, a stance Evelli was likely to take up herself, as she mused. Maybe she'd take Imma to Athenia for a husband search instead? She's heard that Athenia had more folks who appreciated the art, and that would fit well with the sort of thing that Imma liked afterall. "If you say so, love." she murmured soothingly, patting her husband's inner arm as she hoped to calm his defensive-father mode.
Snuggling back up to him as he finally plopped back, Evelli's eyes were already half closed as the blankets settled like a cloud over her mostly naked body, and the woman took another deep breath, a dreamlike smile curving her lips upwards when he leaned over. "I love you too, but I love sleep more now, I think." she sleepily murmured, hazily leaning against his chest. Any other time, Evelli would've taken the chance of Georgios's almost naked-form and anger to her own advantage, but her eyes were already drifting off by the time her last words were uttered.
