Maybe he was right. Maybe she thought too much. She couldn’t find a single thing wrong with anything he’d said. How was another man going to see her naked if she never left his tent? And if he agreed that he could love her as well as Colchis, what else was there to be worried about as long as…
Wait.
So there was nothing for her to have been embarrassed about at all?
“You mean…you don’t care that you weren’t the first man I made love to?” she whispered, half unable to believe it. “I wanted you to be, believe me, but- but for three years…”
Celine stopped herself right there as it finally hit her what might have happened, her eyes growing round with surprise.
“We never knew we were in love, did we? Not like we do now, at the same time. But it would explain so much. The earrings for my birthday when we were fifteen,; and later, at eighteen, the dress though that one was kind of my fault. When it seemed to me that you weren’t aware I loved you, I was embarrassed to have you possibly know that looking at your chest was the reason for my red face. Gods, I should have just told you I loved you then instead of causing an attack on my lungs, even though it did feel good to be in your arms…” Celine knew that Max knew that she didn’t like being touched by strangers even if she tried to be polite about it most times. So to have her want him to hold her was special, and she wasn’t sure just anyone would understand her general aversion to touch. This was another reason why she hoped they would end up marrying, even though it seemed like an impossible dream- but he probably understood that now, too, after what they’d told each other before they made love. “I feel like we’ve lost so much time because we didn’t realize we were in love together. But now, gods willing…we’ll have time.” She tried not to think about what might happen if it didn’t go as they hoped- there was no turning back, regardless. Her decision had been made, and while it had been quick, thought had still gone into it.
“I love you, I love you, I love you…ten thousand times and more… Now kiss me while I can still breathe well,” she whispered. They wouldn’t have to say goodbye for at least a few more hours, but she was already dreading it.

Maximus could feel his entire body shaking. So he wasn't the first man Celine was with? No wonder why Celine was able to put him at ease when they first made love. For what was probably the 500th time in past the few weeks, Maximus' heart felt like it was about to drop from his chest and land in his stomach. In Colchis, the harder a boy works, the more of a man they are. Since childhood, Maximus has labored underneath the sun and endured the notorious icy winds of Colchis to become a soldier: a large part of Greek manhood especially in Colchian culture. For years, Maximus thought he was on his way to becoming a man but it turned out he was farther away than he had hoped.
The feelings he held for Celine were locked in his heart for many years. Feelings that Maximus wasn't even aware of, he couldn't imagine how Celine felt of course she would look to someone else especially since Maximus' father planned on betrothing Maximus to someone day. "Celine," Maximus muttered grabbing her hand. "I wish that I realized my feelings for you sooner. Maybe If I did perhaps."
That Maximus wouldn't fall in love with Nethis. He still remembered her, the way she walked and talked. The way she handled herself with confidence in many ways she was like Celine. Oh Nethis….. Maximus was still enthralled by her presence but at same time was allured by Celine. The young soldier snapped back to reality placing his head against hers. "Perhaps you would never be with another man and perhaps I would be closer to what a man is. If there was anyone's fault is mine for not telling you. I- I don't why realized my love for you until now."
Maximus mentioned that he first fell in love with Celine when she allowed him to kiss her hand. It was a simple gesture but something that had a profound impact on Maximus. Yet for years he only remembered it as children being children rather than the seeds that would eventually blossom into full blown love for Celine. What was the disconnect? Why didn't Maximus remember it?
“I love you, I love you, I love you…ten thousand times and more… Now kiss me while I can still breathe well."
It was that quote which triggered a long forgotten memory. A missing in the puzzle. Maximus remembered himself blushing wildly the moment, he kissed Celine's hand. He remembered the perfume she wore on her: Fresh cut spring flowers a pleasing aroma which filled Maximus with energy that he never experienced before. It was that same energy he's feeling now, the young man pressed his lips against Celine's kissing her passionately and rubbing her back with sheer ferocity.
"Celine," he said pecking her cheeks. "I'm here now," he said. "I feel shame that you went and fell in love with another man. It seems that I am the one who lacked the manhood to confess these caged feelings for you. But I am here and I am yours."
The young man continued to kiss Celine. "Oh Celine," he said between kisses. "Oh you give me newfound vigor that I never knew I had. Please I don't want to leave you not after this....."
For the first time, Maximus had the urge to abandon his duty to be with a woman. Love was the death of duty after all, there was a reason why his instructor warned against it. Even the most disciplined and honor bound soldiers were a slave to love.
