Hey guys! This is just a quick update so that everyone is on the same page.
Last month I skipped over the activity check because I know that life is hard for many at the moment. Lockdown and quarantine regulations of different governments, not to mention the changes people have been forced to make to their lifestyles is both time consuming and demotivating. The staff at Aeipathy understand this and avoided checking on characters and their activity last month in an effort to be fair and understanding of these obstacles.
This month, however, we would like to promote the importance that Aeipathy, and places like it, hold for a lot of people. Where there are those run off their feet, there are others bored out of their minds and suffering from limited social contact and activity. Our world of characters and stories is an escapist bit of fun for many people and is therefore important to keep active and moving.
As such, this month, an activity check will be going ahead.
As last month never followed up on probation characters, nor placed anyone onto probation, the rules for this month are going to be slightly different than the norm, before we move back to our normal regulations at the end of June.
Each character on Aeipathy must have completed six posts between April 1st and June 4th in order to not be put onto our normal probation requirements. Due to the timing of this announcement, the deadline for May's activity check is the 4th June. Not the 31st May. Anyone that does not meet requirements by then will go onto probation as is our normal process and be expected to create four posts by June 30th. Else they will be removed from the site. This six post requirement is less than one post per week on average and with our recommended activity of 2-3 posts per week on Aeipathy, is still taking obstacles and difficulties into consideration. Whilst some may have been busy in March and April when lockdown first began and others might be struggling now, across the board, postings should be balancing out and allowing for those who have had periods of inactivity.
Here are a few questions people may have:
1. Why is this being announced now and not at the start of May?
The main reason for this is that that activity on Aeipathy hasn't come jolting to a stop. It has gradually decreased in a way that, until now, looked like it might soldier through without the needed boost, and we would be able to carry on with a normal activity check (or none at all) at the end of May. Unfortunately, the gradually decrease in IC posting and the low level frustration in more active members has changed subtly but to the point where I think a higher level of expectation is needed for this check. No staff team is psychic. Had we seen the process ahead of time, we would have pre-warned people sooner.
2. This only gives a week to get up-to-date?
Yes it does. If you're someone who has been active and eager to partake over the last two months, you should have no issues at all. Six posts is not a huge number. Even if you haven't posted at all in the months of April and May, we're asking only for a post a day, or a blast of a handful of posts one morning. The staff of Aeipathy do not feel that it is unfair to ask that every member can dedicate a morning of posting in the span of two months to the site. Obviously, if you have already been posting in the months of April and May, you may have no posts to complete in order to match this requirement.
3. What about characters accepted in the last two months?
For characters that have only been accepted onto the site in the last two months, we require them to have three posts to their name to meet the activity check. This is all. If your character was accepted between the 1st April and May 27th you must have 3 posts to your name before June 4th to not go onto probation. If your character was accepted after the 27th May, you do not have to meet any posting requirement. You will not be held to this activity check at all.
4. I'm worried that I'm not going to meet this deadline - what do I do?
If you are concerned about not being able to meet the six posts requirement for one or more of your characters, our staff team recommend the following steps:
-- Try to ensure that you have posted at least once with all of your characters in the last two weeks. This shows the staff team that you are presently active and eager to write your character. And that you haven't lost interest in them entirely.
-- Attempt to reach the posting requirements for each character in turn. Handling one character in probation is a lot easier than having posted five with every character and suddenly needing to support all of them a little more come June.
-- Speak to a member of our Staff Team. JD, Kitsie and Berry are all eager to help, encourage, motivate or provide solutions for how you can create new opportunities, writing or time in your personal lives to meet these activity requirements. We work tirelessly most days to help everyone write as much as they want or need to. But please understand...
Our staff team do not deserve working hard for those who do not work hard themselves. If you come to a staff member having posting nothing for two months and unwilling to accept the challenge of posting something between now and the 4th June, we will simply advise that you try. We put a lot of effort, time and devotion into Aeipathy to make it the site that it is. And other members do the same. We are sympathetic and real-life empathetic over personal difficulties and will always be willing to listen and help. But to show little effort returned, will not produce effective results <3
5. I have no muse to post. I can't do six posts in a week!
If you have not posted in two months, due to lack of muse, and therefore have six posts to do for your character and you have no confidence that muse will return in the next week then, whilst we as a staff team are sympathetic and would hate to see you go, our question is - is this the site/character for you? If you are unable to draw muse to write even one post in the span of nine weeks for a character that you created, do you not think that there might be something wrong?
We encourage you to remember that muse is lovely and it's fun and it helps spark things into action with more ease than doing things muselessly. BUT writing is as much a discipline as it is a passion. And muse is a momentum. It might not be fun to trog through those first few posts and force them out as mediocre quality tick boxes. But, nine times out of ten, forcing something to happen and talking to people about the characters and having people respond and enthuse and partake will help the muse to grow. Secluding yourself in the belief that you can't do it and not using our discord server of games, muse prompts and plotting chats will not help you to write. Muse does not visit the unwilling.
If Uncertain...
When in doubt, speak to a member of staff. We are not monsters, we are not unsympathetic and we will not be angry if you need to drop a character or re-evaluate or need additional help. We do not like doing activity checks and we recognise that they can be challenging/difficult for some people. But we ask for your understanding that the staff team have done as much as they can to promote activity without this being the required step. We have offered new events (both OOC and IC), we have continued challenges and games, we have created a new award for consistent posting, we have encouraged and aided members in DMs across the weeks. We are now at the point where we have to ask for something in return so that we can see who is still actively with us and who may need to consider the idea that life at this time is just too challenging and time-consuming to hold the characters/as many characters as they do. This is not a failure. It is simply a plan that needs to be put in place to protect the activity and community of Aeipathy that we so love <3
