Celine would have been embarrassed to realize she had been about to leave naked, but there was no time. As quickly as possible, she dressed, belted her chiton, and followed Max to the place where he would wait for the boat.
But she didn't like it.
She ached for him to make love to her some more, to show him how to kiss between her legs properly,to keep him with her forever so she wouldn't lose everything and everyone she loved again. Most of all, to be his always and forever, even if they'd already sort of promised.
This wasn't like her, but neither was it normal for her to have none of her friends close by. Of course, she supposed war wasn't a normal situation regardless, but for the love of the gods why did the old memories have to taunt her- if only a little- whenever there was unrest?
Stay calm. You're being silly. No matter if everyone does die, you can't hold him here, you know that.
She was aware that he would probably think she might have a screw loose somewhere, but maybe she did.
Her dress still hadn't dried entirely, and she shivered as the wet, filmy fabric touched her skin.
"I'm well aware that perhaps I've lost my mind. Maybe I really can't handle having none of you close by. But I have to ask you just once. Come away with me?" she said, choking on a sob.
They didn't have to go home, but he didn't really have to go, did he? Like she'd said back in Colchis, didn't anyone care that she felt helpless at the moment?
Why was she the only one of the four of them who never had a choice in anything?

Maximus rushed to the docks the Kopis that Essa gave him a few months was secured tightly around his waist. The sounds of his armor clanking with each steps bought filled him with joy, Maximus always liked sound of armor he always felt sense of pride and duty. Approaching the ship, Maximus could hear the chatter of his brothers talking about how many women they've slept with. Others just looked ahead, their faces grim for what lay in front of them. Maximus was finally at a calm something that he struggled with until he met Celine again. Hopefully this will maintain until he got to Egypt.r.
The ship lay straight ahead the young man was about to enter before he saw Celine sprinting towards him. "No," Maximus muttered under his breath. What was she doing here?! Didn't she get that Maximus was heading to a warzone he needed some time to think and clear his mind. He loved Celine and desired to make love to her again but his duty came first always. "Not always," that voice who would always tempt Maximus said. "Look at Celine's tear ridden face she needs you. For nine years you have neglected her love and just when you return her feelings, you head to war."
"It is sad that it happened," Maximus thought. "As much as I do want to make love to Celine, I cannot forsake my duty. I wished that I confessed sooner perhaps Nethis would never have come into the picture."
“I'm well aware that perhaps I've lost my mind. Maybe I really can't handle having none of you close by. But I have to ask you just once. Come away with me?” Celine said nearly sobbing.
The young man stayed there rooted on the ground, what Celine asked was treason. Maximus would be branded a deserted and would be executed and Celine would be thrown into the brig or worse. "Celine!" Maximus shouted his voice wobbling a bit. "What are you saying? To run away to forsake my vow to protect Colchis?!"
The young man continued to speak but this time he knew it wasn't him. "Are you going to even keep your promise?" Maximus asked. "If I'm going to break my promise to Colchis then it must be replaced with your promise."
This was getting out of hand, what was Maximus saying?! Why is he even considering this. For a moment, Maximus felt like he was having an outer body experience, his soul was trapped while his body was taken over by someone who looked like him but acted radically different. "What did I make you promise?" he said.

She still had the feeling she wasn't quite sane, and that he might know it. "I know, I know, I've lost myself- I'm afraid- I can't-" This wasn't Celine, this was fear overtaking her in a way it never had before. She did wish there were another way- that at least Max wouldn't possibly have to face execution if they were discovered, and herself- well, without him, not even Celine cared about herself. She was not breathing heavily again, like during her lung attack, but was still so upset she wasn't even speaking in full sentences at first. "I wish- I know you could be killed. I wish I knew of something else- if only- gods, what's wrong with me, what's wrong with my life? How dare I ask you...just because I can't imagine being without you, I have no right...." Her stomach dropped as if to make room for her to be able to swallow her own tears. "I have no right, there's something wrong with me. Surely there must be! Not even the most lovestruck woman would dare...! I don't deserve you to stay, even if you could. I don't know why- just a little- the terror has returned- at the thought of you all leaving me, but I'll be fi-" She wouldn't be, she was panicking becauseshe knew she wasn't fine, but also because she knew she had to be fine, even if she faked it. It was what a woman had to do, even one who had suffered danger and family tragedy. She wasn't sure she could adequately fake it anymore, but the realization that she would probably be expected to just when she thought she couldn't was too much.
"I hate myself! I-I'm sorry. I should never have asked. But sometimes I think I've suffered all I can take..."
Truthfully, Celine was afraid for her sanity. Maybe she always would be.
When she could finally calm down- or thought she was close- she finally shut up.
And her eyes just about popped out of her head.
"Are you actually suggesting that you might? Truthfully, I'm frightened for my own sanity, that I would have asked that- but...really?" Her jaw dropped in disbelief.
"That wasn't me, you know- it was heightened awareness and fear and remembered tragedy." She blushed in shame and lowered her head, suddenly finding herself unable to look at him.
Then again, there was a possibility that perhaps he wasn't himself, either. Or maybe they were still in the tent where they'd made love and had somehow fallen asleep and landed in the same dream together.
"Well...." She thought back. She really remembered every word of her promise, but she knew that thinking about the things she'd said would perhaps calm her further.
"Something about never changing my hair or dress or earrings, and never wearing any shoes again, and... and...." She smiled tentatively, not quite for real. She couldn't quite believe this whole conversation was happening.
"And...something, added later, but nonetheless there, about making love to you with my mouth well and often and thoroughly."

What was Maximus saying? What was he doing? All the years of dreaming and preparing to become a great soldier will shot up in flames because of what the fact that he made love to his best friend? Maximus could not, would not forsake his loyalty to Colchis. However the the voice in his stirred, he grabbed hold of Maximus and held him back while he took over his body. Or at least it felt that way. "It was what I chose a long time ago," Maximus replied trying to regain himself. "I chose become a solider and to fight for the Kingdom I hold dear. Why would you ask me of some thing that could get us both killed."
Maximus took Celine and hugged her tight. It was unexpected for him to do that, he wanted to be angry and upset but for some reason he was only stunned and tempted by what Celine was saying. The young man began to rub her exposed back it still felt soft and smooth. "Celine," from the corner of his eye Maximus could hear his commanding officer shouting for the last call. He shuffled his feet to try to run to the boat but his heart didn't allow it. It didn't help that Maximus' arms were wrapped around Celine's slender body.
"I'm frightened too," he whispered allowing his heart to take over. "I wanted to be a soldier I thought that was my greatest desire but it seems right now my greatest desire is you Celine."
The young man began to slowly stroke Celine's long hair. "You have to promise me Celine," he said. "About what you said."

"As I've said, that wasn't me. I'm being silly- the memories are returning, but I'll be all right. I-I'd rather have you away from me than dead." Or he could go to war and die, but she tried not to think about it. "Who am I kidding, I'd rather there be no war, especially after I nearly lost so much nine years ago- but that isn't how life is. Ares must have his due." Though it might be said that in a sense Celine's father's job was to prevent war, it didn't mean it always worked.
"You can go." She cupped his cheek and kissed him again, quickly but still hungrily- she knew she might not get the chance ever again. "There's still time. I don't deserve for you to stay, even if you could. I feel guilty for even asking. They're only memories, the nightmares will go away in a few days, they're not real life anymore." She wasn't just talking about the nightmares of the fire as a child that still occasionally surfaced. This time, they also had something to do with those days on the ship, though she didn't want to admit that out loud.
"Yes, I promise, all of it! But if you stay, please promise me that you won't hate me. Please!" She gave him a pleading glance. "I-I'm sorry. I need you with me, but I'm sorry I feel like I can't be brave anymore, because now I've taken your dream away from you..."
Or was his being a soldier more Max's father's dream for him?
It was hard for Celine to tell at times, really. Sometimes- but especially now- he seemed far more lover than soldier. Even before he had confessed his love for her, the way he held her against him when she couldn't breathe had seemed to speak volumes, particularly as they grew older.
Either way, his hand on her back felt a strange combination of comforting and arousing, and she pulled away against her wishes in case he should want to make a run for the boat.

So it wasn't just Maximus who didn't feel like himself, the same thing was happening to Celine as well. She was always assessing risk before jumping into a situation. It wasn't like Celine to be so reckless, to be this open... Everytime Maximus would talk to Celine, he had a feeling that she was hiding something. Thankfully that secret was that she loved him, the same thing that Maximus buried deep inside his heart. "There's something wrong with both of us," Maximus whispered as he felt Celine's soft hand pressed against his cheek. Her kiss sealed off any inclination to go on the boat. As he kissed back It was clear to Maximus why he trained all those years.
"I've realized now why I was training all those years," The young man said hugging Celine tight. He could hear the boat starting to leave but he paid no mind to it. "It was to protect you Celine, you've said that you were afraid that whoever set fire to your would come after you. That's why I continued to train as a solider so I can fight who was coming after you. I love you so much Celine that leaving you would break me."
Maximus then leaned down and kissed Celine passionately, removing the half of her Chiton revealing her breasts. "I was never angry with you," he said squezzing her breasts. "I can't get angry at the woman that I want to love and protect."
And make love to, there was so much that Maximus had to learn about making love. There was more to it than just providing for Celine, he wants to satisfy her emotionally. "Being a soldier was for you Celine it was always about you. So you can feel and secure." The young man placed her Chiton back up covering her breasts as he turned around watching the ships head for Egypt. This was it, Maximus was officially a traitor and there was little doubt that Colchis was going to find him and execute him.
He'll have to worry about that later, right now Maximus wanted to comfort Celine and make her feel safe. That was his only goal right now, she was a woman worth fighting for. "I choose you Celine," he said wiping the tears from her eyes with his thumb. "I choose a life with you and I will make love to you and provide for you."
The young man then gulped. "Celine of Acaris marry me so we can bounded by the Gods."

"Yes...." She found once he had put his arms around her again that she couldn't leave his embrace. She was his and he was hers and forget everything else, even what his father might possibly say!
"Always...."
The sweet, bookish young woman had suddenly lost all other words. Well, not all- but there were only a few more she felt capable of forming.
"Where? When?"
She glanced nervously at him, fully aware that he was, of course, still wearing his armor.
"And you...in that?"
Everyone would know for sure then that he'd broken ranks.
The truth was that she wouldn't have cared if he married her stark naked, though, and she winked.
"We could just break tradition and get married naked," she suggested, raw passion filling her. She tried to focus on something else so that she wouldn't ask him to make love to her in the middle of the crowd with everyone watching. The fewer people who saw that he was still armored the better.
She thought of the money he'd won in the contest earlier.
"Unless we can pay the priestesses of Hera to keep quiet." Aphrodite may or may not have just blessed their union with a lover's pool, but Hera was the goddess of marriage.
And after that she could care less where they went.
"I'll have to let my parents know I wasn't kidnapped." At least Celine's parents would be happy for them, and might possibly assume when she said she had gotten married that the boat was late arriving to pick up the soldiers. "But then where?"
Logically, was there anywhere in the known world where he would not be found if someone were looking? She did worry about that, of course. But right now, she worried about very little else, just her still-damp cheek on his warm chest, his heart against her ear, and his masculine scent filling her nose.
Maybe, if she stayed right here just like this, forever, she would never be frightened of anything ever again.
Except....
"Oh gods...if we get married here, everyone will know, and we'll have to leave Taengea quickly." Now, as a traitor, he was just as unsafe as she might be if some people realized Celine of Acaris had visited Taengea. Weddings were documented!
She thought fast, but couldn't come up with anything. "We could try the fake name thing, but that wouldn't work either, because they'd still assume you were a deserter if you wore your armor, no matter who you said you were."
Help!
Whichever god would listen to that prayer, she would be grateful.

From the corner of Maximus' eye all the Colchian ships began to sail away into the inky black darkness of the night. There were hardly any stars to where they were all sailing into. Maximus' stomach churned causing him to hug Celine tighter. He really did it didn't he? He abandoned his brothers to fight and die under the scorching hot desert while he stays with the woman he loved. Maximus wanted to scream and cry but all he can do is to hug Celine. Was it worth it? Perhaps especially now that he was with her making sure that she felt safe. "Celine....." Maximus sighed. "I don't think you should tell your parents where you are. We're essentially criminals now forever traveling from place to avoid execution."
What would his father say? His mother? After their teary eyed farewell Maximus has disgraced his family in the worst way possible. Abandoning the military was like arriving home without a shield. "We will be nomads," Maximus had. "It's only us against the world," trying to hold back tears, the young man swallowed hard. "But I like our odds," the young man winked kissing Celine softly on the lips. It was through that kiss that Maximus felt reinvigorated maybe just maybe they can overcome this.
"Perhaps we can wait," the young man said. "Just tell me Celine do you want to get married? A simple yes and we can be together forever. The Gods will be watching us and no one else. Besides."
A blush formed on Maximus' dark cheeks. "I was wondering if you have any other techniques you want to show me?"
He really needed to take his mind off things after what happened?

He really needed to take his mind off things after what happened?
"Yes. I do want to get married. And yes... there are plenty of other techniques I can show you... for both yourself and for me... when we're alone..."
A sigh...because she still felt so guilty... and then a wink, because now they could be alone together...for always.
She still had to know one thing, though.
"I'm enough, right? When we made love the very first time, that was my thought, that I'm not enough.... that I've never been enough, because I was never quite what anyone- other than you- seemed to want. I-I've only really been... myself... with you, but my family- the court- wherever I went I was always on the fringes, and now we'll both be on the fringes..." She tried to laugh, but she was still a little nervous. In all other ways, she was right where she'd always wanted to be.
But she'd never wanted it to be like this, by putting him in danger of execution.
" But I'm enough for you- for always, even if you never fight again except to keep me safe? You won't terribly miss your unit brothers? Even if I panicked- you chose me too? You really believe that you trained to protect me- truly- all along? Being a soldier because your father seemed to want it was a cover, of sorts, like Aphrodite is a cover for Hermes for me?"
Well, maybe not quite like that. But still.
She wanted to be absolutely sure. She knew he loved her-now- but to choose her? Over their country? In the face of possible death?
That seemed like it must be different. She felt like she was under pressure somehow, to be enough for him- in place of the camaraderie of war- when in reality it was most likely his decision to have made.
"If the truth be known, I always hoped we'd get married." It was something that she hadn't quite been able to tell him before without perhaps sounding a little naive- as if she hadn't known the possible hurdles they would have faced, which hadn't been true at all. She could be a little naive, she supposed. Hope might well be the most naive thing of all sometimes. But she didn't like to be thought of as just plain [i stupid.[/i] Stupid, in her mind, would have been not acknowledging that there would likely be hurdles to their happiness.
"Now let's go find a room- a paid room- with some of that money you won, and... at least celebrate being engaged." She winked suggestively.

Truth be told Maximus wasn't sure, the thought of leaving his brothers behind still hasn't set in yet. But he already knows that it's going to be agonizing. Who was he to be staying with Celine while the rest of his brothers who chose to fight for their Kingdom will mostly die horrible deaths and without him giving them proper leadership. For a moment Maximus thought himself a craven but with Celine he felt that he can shed that. "Celine," Maximus said. "I've sealed my fate the moment I chose you. Like I said being a soldier was all about protecting you. I wished I could be with my brothers but you are more important and precious to me."
The young man brushed his thumb on Celine's bottom lip. It was painful but Maximus made his decision and a man must stick to what they decide. There was no going back. Maximus then raised his eyebrows in shock when Celine suggested that perhaps Maximus was just being a soldier to please his father. Could it be? What Maximus said to Celine that he became a soldier to protect her rung true but to lie to his own father? It was inconceivable but it was the truth. "It's true," Maximus said kissing her on the cheek. "All of it, I want you to be happy to feel safe. I figured that if I learned all of the tactics as a soldier that I can protect you."
It was then Maximus picked up Celine in a bridal carry. "Let's just go to where we made love," the young man said beginning to sprint towards the location. "I just want to leave this behind."
Maximus knew that his decision would come back to haunt him. It wasn't like he was hard to find as well. But for now he just wants to forget. The two of them entered the room while Maximus eagerly took off his armor. "I love you Celine," Maximus whispered. "More than you know."

"I need you with me," she said again. "May the gods forgive me for that, but I can't help it. It's not just regular nightmares this time- the crates- I'm still so glad I came to tell you I loved you, but behind those crates...for days..." A shudder of fear went through her, and she buried her face in his chest. "And yet, I can't regret it, not even because of the worsening nightmares. I knew it might happen, but this time, huddling in a small space that seemed like it shrunk by the day was my own decision."
She had to smile, though, at his confession. "I knew it- somehow, all these years! I knew there had to be some other reason. I just never realized- not even once- that the reason could possibly be related to me...." There were other reasons to learn fighting techniques besides war, though she didn't think those reasons were considered as important by most people as was being able to defend one's country.
It was a pity.
She nodded eagerly. "Yes, let's forget. Everything except our love...."
And the ache between my legs.
"Women can ache there, too. you know. Gentle massage helps. Or using your tongue." She smiled softly after he removed his armor, guiding his hand to the top of her womanhood. Beneath the soft, dark curls there, a fire raged. She wondered if he could feel how her flesh burned, but how she was also wet there.
"Please, Maximus."
She reached down with her other hand to show him what was there with a fingertip, rubbing for a few seconds until it surfaced. "A woman's pearl of seduction. And it loves to be felt and tasted as much as your manhood."
But somehow, none of her previous lovers had found it....
Or had she wanted them to? She questioned that. She doubted if she had ever wanted anyone else to see the deepest part of herself, either figuratively or literally. And of course, none of that hadto be accomplished in order to have a man inside her... so maybe she had never thought that she would like anyone else to touch her most intimate places.
Only Maximus. Always and forever, only him.
"It's only yours, you know- there, no one else has ever found. Nor, I suppose, have I ever asked for them to." And she grinned.
"I love you too, endlessly. And I need you. Whatever we do, we have waited so long to be together that I'm positively ravenous for you!"
She hoped he found her showing herself to him as seductive as she found pleasing him. Her own flesh ached far too much to do so now, but later, she would make good on her promise.
She hoped they would be ravenous for each other always.

Maximus' mind was still racing, he wondered if it was worth it to give up all that he built up for just for Celine. His heart said yes, but his mind told him no. They would be forever on the run but as long as they had each it made things a little easier. The young man stared at his armor while Celine whispered seductive things into his ear. It would be the last time he would ever wear that armor. The Greek armor was a part of him, it was like peeling off an extra layer of skin. Maximus never felt prouder wearing the colors of Colchis especially when he was first received the armor the moment he enlisted in the Fifth Phalanx it was hard to leave it behind along with his shield and spear.
But with Celine's honeyed words it made the young man feel at ease. Maximus smiled when Celine showed him the art of making love. There were some things that Maximus never thought that the human body was capable of. Celine had a dirty mind something that horrified Maximus but at the same time made him strangely aroused. Looking at Celine's womanly part the young man gulped, he wouldn't dare lick it not even his brothers were that deviant. Still the look on Celine wanted to be kissed and Maximus did promise to please her. The young man knelt and kissed Celine's private part it was as bad as he thought it was but every part of his body screamed at him to stop.
It was then Maximus quickly got up and hugged her tight. "I think," Maximus said breathlessly that you should show how this is done and I agree please teach how to make love. Pleasure me Celine show me and tell me about what you promise to do for me."
Somehow Celine saying her promise sounded arousing to him.

It was only when he looked uncomfortable after he kissed her between her legs that Celine blushed. Perhaps this was too much.
"Forgive me," she whispered. "I do ache there, but I should have thought...."
She sighed.
How did everything turn out so wrong?
"It's too much, isn't it?" she asked him softly, embarrassed. "I-I mean- everything. The confessions, the kisses, me hiding in a boat for the last couple of weeks, more confessions, us finally admitting we were both in love today, and... and then you stayed, when I should have never admitted I was so afraid...even at the cost of lying... and then... now... the armor..."
She sighed again, because she, too, realized that he would never wear it again. That finally brought her to tears.
"I never meant for you to lose so much of yourself... not ever, but especially not in one day!"
Gods. she hated herself! He was most likely in shock over the whole day.
She laughed bitterly. "I could show you, still. But I don't deserve to feel pleasure when I've taken so much from the one I love. I know you're willing to learn how to please me as much as I am to please you, and thank you for that, but I feel more pleasure when I am not disgusted with myself!" she huffed.
She was just as sad as she was angry, but admitting the truth of that did not make her feel better, only worse. But she tried to smile, ironically, knowing that they probably had some of the same feelings about what had just occurred. Shock and fear and sadness- because whatever might have been, there was no turning back now. Yes, they were together, and she reveled in that- but she did wish it hadn't cost Max so much.
It might cost them both their lives, really, but she thought of him more than herself, and shuddered. She hoped the gods would blame it all on her, in the end.
But he would probably understand some of the shock she felt when she could speak again, and that made her smile if only because it seemed he always understood most things about her, mentally, anyway.
"Tell me something. Do you think it will ever not bother us that for once we needed something so much that we both put ourselves first when we're both not used to doing that?"
Either way, they would have to learn to make it not bother them, together.
Together...that was the only thing she liked about any of this. And she realized that part of the reason she no longer felt like showing him how to please her was that she was in shock, too.
"I'm sorry. Just...just hold me. For now." She sniffled, wiping her eyes one last time, then tried a wink. "With luck, the shock will pass before long, for both of us."

Celine had to remind Maximus of how much he sacrificed to be with her. The young man did wonder though, how much did Celine sacrifice? She always felt that she was insignificant to the grand scheme of things. As one of the oldest children in her family, Celine couldn't inherit lands or titles over male heirs and she was sure that any marriage would advance their place in court. It was notoriously hard for a family to move up in Greece. It took Maximus' family a couple of generations to reach the upper middle class.
"It," Maximus swallowed his skin bristled against the cool wind that seeped through the cracks to the place where they are making love. He struggled to find the right words to tell Celine none of them were good. How would she even react to what he was about to say. "It feels that I gave up everything for you," he said. "I'm the only heir that my father produced, my mother could not bear any children after my birth."
It was because of the curse but right now Maximus did not want to think about it. Thankfully Celine just wanted to be held, it was a simple but effective move one that Maximus was glad to partake. "Celine," the young man said rubbing her exposed back. "Just to let you know that it was too much to take in but I have a feeling it will be worth it."

"I only ever wanted you, you know." she said softly. "That's all I've ever wanted, ever since I realized- perhaps a little late, at seventeen- that what I felt for you could be love. And my father, for his part, would have agreed, and you know it. He understood that his children were under a kind of threat that he and my mother never had been. Their marriage had been arranged, but they grew to love each other. But for us...under threat so young...possibly due to his political decisions... he knew it would be better for us to spend the rest of our lives with someone we already trusted." She sighed. " But I think he was unsure just how to make our match appeal to your father. I wanted to tell you I loved you long beforethe news of war, but you never seemed to realize I existed. Though I always did wonder- after the dress- but I didn't want to mess it up by asking too soon. And then the news that there would be war came, and when all three of you had to go- I-I lost my mind...I couldn't lose everything again." She buried her face against him as he held her. "I-I told you- and then I came here to explain. I didn't really expect you to give everything up- that was the terrified eleven-year-old, fearful of change, and I'm so sorry that that part of me still exists." She was both ashamed of herself for still having that terrified little girl inside her, and yet still in awe that after so long, he had loved her, too. "And yes, I suppose I have sacrificed a lot- but it is usually the lot in life of a Greek woman to do so. In return, I never expect anyone to do anything they don't have to- because in the end, I have had no right to expect it in the first place," she explained. But wasn't that how it always had been?
The shock of potentially never having children would hit her later, she supposed. For now, it wasn't the most important thing. Maybe it never had been. In a sense, she had only felt she had to have children because it was a way to make sure she had a place she truly belonged... somewhere. A way for her to fit. Even in her family, as the middle child, she never felt she had fit anywhere.
Now she would belong everywhere, because they would always be together. And while she would probably always feel horrible not only for asking him to stay, but now, as it turned out, for leaving Rhais forever, nothing else mattered except that she now knew he wanted to be with her, too. She stayed there against his chest until she felt calm again, but after a few minutes, she smiled, first tenderly, then a little seductively again. She thought she knew what would go far in comforting them both. And then, once that was accomplished, she could show him what she had intended to again- but more slowly.
"And now that I know you feel it will be worth it...let me repeat that first part. I only ever wanted you." She drew him close to give him another fierce kiss, smiled again, and proceeded to change positions. "Perhaps this will prove that I've only ever wanted you," she said, before making love to him with her mouth again.
