Another early morning, Kalliope possibly worried her guard that she had, but at this moment she didn't really care. The birds were singing happily as they flitted about the early morning, the dew not even dry yet from the grass as the chill of the night still clung to the morning air.
Kalliope was used to waking up this early, from all her times working her market stall, remembering the early morning light making the world look blue before Apollo's chariot rays lit everything up in the bright light. The air still smelled cool and crisp, Kalliope's favorite time of day. It had been a while since she had been outside at this time, ever since becoming Lady Xene's retainer, but since her chance encounter the passed week Kalli had been visiting the little alcove every day since.
With her guard within shouting distance but still far enough away to give her complete privacy, Kalliope settled in with her lyre and strummed out a simple tune.

She'd been in his dreams. The melody of her song. The touch of her hands on his skin. He'd done his best to keep focused this past week, to stay on mission. And he'd managed it - for the most part. But the last few days, he kept thinking he'd heard her voice just around the corner and found himself rushing forward to try to catch a glimpse of her. And every time he'd gotten angry and frustrated with himself when he'd realized what he'd just done. He didn't have time for this! He had a job to do. A mission to fulfill! And the faster he got it done, the faster he could leave Taengea and escape the reach of the Creed. Kalliope was becoming a distraction. Perhaps if he saw her again. Heard her play one more time. He'd left their last meeting so suddenly. Maybe he just needed... closure?
This thought in mind, he'd set out at sunrise that morning, skipping his usual trek out into the woods and his usual visit to the market place. He came straight to the university of the arts, and more pointedly, to the tree he'd been perched in the day he'd been lured here by her music. He'd already been in his perch for over an hour when he finally spotted her coming his way. His keep eyes zeroed in on her as if she were his prey. He watched her, the way she moved, the way she carried herself. He let her get settled on the bench and even listened to her play for a few minutes. He watched the edge of the alcove to be sure she was here alone. He did not wish to be seen by anyone else.
Once he was certain no one would be joining her, he dropped silently to the ground behind her, landing on his toes and dropping into a crouch to absorb the impact. He fluidly rose back to his full six foot height and walked quietly up behind her. He reached a hand around, easily and without touching her, to pluck a single string. When he'd come here, Kyros had no intention of letting her know he was near. But upon seeing her, those intentions had fled his mind.

Kalliope was playing softly when suddenly the air shifted, dancing around her as the intoxicating woody smell surrounded her and warmth followed closely behind against her back right before a single string on her lyre was plucked, the sound was loud in the quiet. "Oh! You came back!"
In her attempt to find out if he was behind her or where he was, Kalli lifted her head back as she was turning around almost instinctively. A small action that had her head bump into something very hard and very warm, causing her to reach up and hope that the bench was moved and she was just bumping into the tree. Her hands came into contact with something far softer than the bark on the tree that she knew was there. In fact, it was a lot softer than the bark and a lot more like fabric than what Kalliope was anticipating.
The form under the fabric could very well have been the tree for how hard it was, a tree on a hot and sunny day. Seconds have passed as all of this transpired, enough time for Kalliope's heart to skip a beat as she shoved lightly against him as she exclaimed and stood up. "You ARE a god! You have to be! N-no one, no one can be that..."
Kalliope's legs had been tangled in her chiton after she stood and twisted around too quickly, simple as it was, the move caused her to fall backward. A feeling like Kalliope had on the ship that fateful night, a soft gasp of surprise was all that was heard.

'Oh! You came back!'
Kyros felt the corner of his lips curve up in a rare smile at her surprise. The sound of her voice washing over him in a way he hadn't known he'd been craving so badly. It confused him. Then she was leaning into his chest, and he held his breath at the feel of it. Before he could force himself back, she was jumping up, exclaiming - rather loudly - that he was a god! What? His eyes grew wide at this revelation of what she thought of him. How in Hades had she come to that conclusion?! But he didn't have time to ponder it too much further, for Kalliope was falling backward and seemed unable to halt her progress.
It was pure reaction, instinct. He bounded over the stone bench and spun midair to land on his feet once again standing behind and just to the side of her. He put out one strong hand and caught her, open palm across her back and halted her decent before she'd gone too far over. It all happened in the blink of an eye really. The muscles in his arm bulged as he easily held her with the one hand. And he couldn't help but be amused that his swiftness might just lend credence to her theory of his identity. He held her like that, a single hand on her back, not touching her in any other way, and gently pushed her back to a proper standing position - though he kept his hand on her until he was certain she wouldn't fall over again.

Kalliope was falling, closing her eyes tightly as she braced for the pain that would follow. What would she lose this time? Her life? Seconds, if that, and suddenly she wasn't falling anymore as a large, warm hand braced behind her. He had saved her? That quickly? Even though she couldn't see, her eyes blinked up at him as her mind raced.
Without a sound, he placed her back on her feet and made sure she wouldn't fall again. "How.. how did you move so fast? Your arms, and now I would assume that was your chest I just touched, I hope..." For that, she paused at the memories of how hard he felt and how warm he was to her touch, shaking her head slightly to get rid of her thoughts on how she dared to ask to touch him before "You are hard as marble and quick as lightning. Are you sure you are not a god? Hermes? Apollo?" Now Apollo would make sense for the warmth. "And your scent..."
How could Kalliope explain that she was surprised that he did not stink, or smell of that weird body odor that some men seem to have that makes most people want to run away? At the memory of it surrounding her, she could not stop the quiver that ran from her stomach to up over her scalp if she tried. She didn't hate the feeling, even if she didn't understand it.
Leaning down, she felt for the bench again before claiming a seat, scooting over just far enough that he would have room to join her. "Sit with me this time?"

The mercenary's brows rose higher with each of her confused questions. He moved that fast because of his training. He was strong and muscled because... of his training. His life depended on his being so fast to react. Trigger reflexes and heightened senses are the only thing that saved him before Fotios' men showed up when he'd tried to contact the Shade. He shook his head, dispelling that memory. Not wanting to spoil this moment with her. Wait... My scent? He looked down to his tunic with a confused look on his face. It was a clean tunic. And he hadn't even worked out that morning or gone traipsing through the forest as was his custom. Oh wished he could pursue this line of thought she'd inadvertently sparked. But that would involve cluing her in to the fact that he was not a mute. He could not do that. Did he really smell that bad?
Watched her with a tilt of his as she sought to reclaim her seat on the bench, leaving room for him, even requesting that he sit with her. He glanced around, to be sure that her exclamations moments before had not alerted anyone to come running. He took a deep breath and let it out slowly. Alright. Just for a little while. he told himself as he joined her on the bench in the shade. He sat close enough that he would be able to reach across and pluck at her strings if she proceeded to ask him things like last time, but not so close that he was touching her as they sat beside each other. He lean forward, his elbows on his knees, his hands hanging free between his legs.

When he sat down next to her, Kalli could feel his warmth radiating over to where she sat, making her swear that he was his own personal sun. Just because his heat and his scent made her feel someone intoxicated, she was a retainer for a princess for crying out loud! Gods above, she would act like it too. Straightening her spine as she rolled her shoulders back just so, she played a light tune on her lyre as she spoke.
It's been a week since you last visited, have you.. have you been well?" She knew she probably sounded stupid as she asked, though she was genuinely curious. "Have you been keeping safe?" At this point, she dared to point out something that she noticed in their last meeting, curious to almost a fault. "I couldn't help but notice what felt like a scar on your arm from last time. I just was hoping... you were staying safe." Unintended till it already left her lips, she didn't mean to let on that she thought about him after they parted.
"I had seen scars before, though usually, they were on scrappers that hung around the market. Thankfully no one ever tried anything at my father's stall." She remembered those days, the pirates that would steal everyone's cargo, causing families to go hungry depending on the cargo that was stolen. "I wish I could ask you what you do. If you are not a god, then you would have to work as men usually do, so I wonder what you possibly do. If you are a farmer, a stonemason, a blacksmith..." Now Kalliope was just rambling a little, mentioning all the professions that she herself knew of that you HAD to be strong in. Finding a spot that was warm, letting her know that the sun showed through the tree branches in a small patch, Kalli braced her hands on the bench and leaned her head back to enjoy the sunlight. "Tell me, which would do you prefer, day or night? For the day, one-note and for the night, two notes."

Had he been well and safe? He was pondering how he should answer this. He had been safe enough he supposed. No active pursuits on his life. But of course he supposed that was due to the noble keeping up his end of the bargain. Though Kyros was uncertain how the Leventi was managing that, given the men that were after the Creed defector. Nor had he been sick, but her song hand haunted his dreams and thoughts to frustration.
'I couldn't help but notice what felt like a scar on your arm from last time. I just was hoping... you were staying safe.'
She had thought of him in his absence? He frowned at this. She had noticed his scar. An identifying mark. Damn. He hoped that she would not use it against him. Though surely he was not the only man with such a scar on his arm? He reached over and plucked the string twice. Yes. For some reason he didn't really want her worrying about his health and safety. He found the thought of someone worrying about such things of him... troublesome.
Her father's stall. So she was a merchants daughter! But then how did she afford the tuition to come here? He glanced around at the luscious grounds and back to her in further confusion. This woman was an enigma. He listened quietly as she listed jobs she thought he could do. He wondered absently what she would think of him if she knew what he really did.
She leaned back to bask in a ray of light filtering through the branches above. The light made her blond hair seem to shine and her skin to glow. It was an arousing sight actually. But he quickly squelched those notions. He plucked a string twice. Night. Always night. The sun is too revealing. The shadows are my allies.

When he plucked the string twice, letting her know that he was doing ok, Kalliope smiled and nodded her head slightly, "That is good. I was hoping such, though that is probably stupid because I don't even know you at all. Not even your name." Shrugging a little, she continued on as she just spoke with him. When she mentioned the scar, she thought an animal got him, but she let it drop as she just rambled on.
When asking about day or night, Kalliope smiled when he stated that he preferred the night. "I used to like the night, back when I could see and enjoy the moonlight, even though I speak more with Apollo instead of his sister Artemis. The sun is easier to feel it's warmth. You remind me of the sun like you are your own personal sun and it doesn't matter if it is day or night because you are so warm."
Closing her eyes out of habit, she basked in the light, "So I know you like music, do you have a favorite instrument or vocals?"

And he was determined to keep it that way. She already knew too much in his opinion. But he did enjoy being about to speak with her without actually needed to speak. She did enough talking for the both of them. It was... peaceful and nerve wracking all at the same time. Especially since he had to keep attention towards the rest of the grounds to be sure no one approached. He had an errant thought of guiding her from this place so they could actually be alone and he could simply enjoy her company and listen to her play that lyre of hers. But he dismissed it almost as soon as it formed in his mind.
Kalliope was mid-ramble about how she used to like that night and how he seemed to put off his own heat when he heard someone approaching the entrance to their little alcove. He narrowed his eyes, tensing. His gaze went to the branch just above his head. IN and instant he was standing on the bench and leaping up into the tree, without ever disturbing Kalliope in her musings. He was out of sight before the newcomer ever looked her way.
He peered down from his perch up in the boughs of the shade tree, to see two other young women dressed in elaborate chitons giggling in hushed tones as they approached. They paused and looked curiously to Kalliope. "Oh. We didn't know anyone was over here. It's Kalliope, isn't it? The blind girl? Who... who were you talking to?" The dark haired of the two looked around while her brown haired companion looked on Kalliope with a judging look that made Kyros feel heat bubbling up in his veins. Unconsciously, a hand closed around the hilt of one of his daggers at his hip.

Kalliope was talking when suddenly, the warmth was gone and new voices filled the air. Others whom she did not know but seemed to know her. It was times like this that she could disappear like her new sun apparently did.
In a tone that she did not use for her companion, she replied a little stiffly. "Yes, Kalliope the little blind girl. Simpleton to many and retainer to royalty. That's me. Over here enjoying this private little corner of the rather large courtyard." Brushing her hand down her simple chiton, she placed her lyre squarely on her lap as she crossed her arms above it while holding onto the instrument and smiled. "Well, I was talking to the gods. I am assuming Apollo because of the warmth that is now gone." Shifting a little more, she pulled her legs up, taking up the bench in its entirety, as she made herself comfortable. "How can I help you, ladies?" The smile on Kalliope's face, with her clouded eyes and the smile she gave, gave off an air of creepiness that Kalli wanted to make people go away. Now, why didn't she do that with her god-like visitor? Did she really enjoy his company that much?

Kyros was as still as the shadows he blended so well with as he watched the scene unfolding before him. Sweet innocent Kalliope was suddenly showing a different side than what she'd shown him thus far. He frowned and tilted his head, his focus on her as she gave these two intruders an attitude he did not expect from her. An enigma. One that seemed to be getting bigger with each passing moment! And she still thought him a god! Apollo himself it seemed. He supposed he put off so much heat because he'd grown up in Egypt. Perhaps he'd absorbed too much of the desert sun? But then again he'd hardly been out during the day in the desert. He was raised in the shadows of night. Maybe the cooler temperatures of the desert night had naturally elevated his body temperature to compensate for the sometimes freezing nights.
The brown haired girl scoffed, laughing derisively. "As if the gods would deign to spend a moment with the likes of you. It doesn't matter who your employers are. You are still nothing but a chamber maid." Both the girls laughed at this, but the dark haired girl sobered quicker than the other, seeing the look on the blind girl's face. "Come on. Let us go sit by the fountain. It's more... sane over there."
Kyros waited until the snickering noble girls were well out of sight and out of ear shot - not that they would hear him - before he released his dagger hilt and dropped back to the ground behind Kalliope. Is this what she dealt with all the time? he wondered as he straightened from his landing crouch, his eyes on her gorgeous blond hair.

Letting out a breath once those girls finally left, annoyed by their words but unfazed. She knew, even as a 'chambermaid' that she was still of higher standing than they were because she was a princess' maid. Malakas! Go pray to Coeus for some brains to fill that empty space between your ears!!
"Thank the gods they are gone. Stupid malakas, how did they ever get into this school is anyone's guess." Moving to open up space again on the bench, Kalli turned her head to see if she could hear anything. Unable to rely on his warmth or scent since it seemed like it now surrounded her like a blanket, so now she tried to hear him. "Are you still there?"

Cursing as well? That was most un-lady like. Enigma. Now that he was alone with her again, he was able to ponder the conversation that had transpired. Retainer to royalty? He had not intended to see her again after this. He had intended for this to be the last visit, just this once to get her out of his head. But had he stumbled onto a way into the palace itself? He narrowed his eyes on the musician as he pondered this turn of events. Which member of the royal house did she serve? 'Are you still there?' He skirted around the bench and sat down, still not a whisper of sound to his practiced movements. He plucked a string of the lyre in her lap. Twice. Yes. Yes he was here. And it seemed he would continue this little charade with her. Let her think him a god. At least until he figured out if he could use her as a way to gain entry to the palace... to the royal family. Bonus. He would get to enjoy her music and lyrical voice a bit more. Perhaps he wasn't in such a rush to leave Taengea just yet...

At her question, she heard the two notes fly through the air, making her smile. "I do not know how much you have heard, I am sorry about that though. She had no idea what this god-like man thought or if he was offended by her rough manners. A noble, she was not; though she did mind her manners when she was at the palace.
Calming down, Kalliope played on her lyre in a mindless beat, silently as she plucked her strings as she tries not to think about those girls. It wasn't the first time since she lost her sight to get ridiculed, and she was sure that it would not be the last.
Is it bad to wish that you could talk almost as badly as I wish I could see? I wish I could see you. Why do you give me the vibe that you won't hurt me, even though you probably very well could? Why do I like being in your company, though I hate almost everyone else's? No matter how hard she had tried, she could not feel an ounce of pity coming from him, though it was hard to get a read on someone who played a few notes and saved you from falling.
