It was difficult to gauge how much the people around her knew. She knew for a fact that Lady Olympia knew how her brother was fairing, but it was so difficult to ask when there were always others around. Other courtiers and even the woman's own family. Xene was aware that even Lady Evelli even likely knew something, but whether she had found an opening to ask or not, she didn't find that she had a close enough relationship with the older woman to stick her nose where it may not have belonged. And surely, asking probing questions was likely to land her into either hot water or gossip. Xene wished to avoid both.
So she had done her research. She had combed Lady Olympia's staff and found that at least one individual had had the possibility of running into Stephanos. And that was all she really wanted to know. Prince Vangelis' veiled admission that Stephanos was safe and sound only settled her mind so much. She needed more information than that, and what better way to get what she wanted than to accost the former queen's staff.
It was her guard who was always close, so the princess opted to try her hand at getting any little tidbits of information from the man as she could. She had sent a letter, summoning him to her under the guise of wanting to know her sister-in-law's staff better so that Xene herself could properly help and assist Lady Olympia. It was simple and not unexpected when two such ladies were connected by marriage, and Xene had every intention of ensuring that their bond grew and remained strong over time. Because keeping Olympia safe was the least that the princess could do to ease the mind of her exiled brother.
Though… the princess wondered if Stephanos would return.
That made her heart ache as she settled upon a chaise in the sunrooms of the palati. The request had been sent to Alistair so that Xene might speak to him and even feed him a light lunch. But make no mistake, her entire operation and meaning for a meeting like this was purely for information. Information she wanted and needed purely for the sake of her own selfishness. Xene just wanted to know if her brother was okay. That was all. She would go to great lengths for an answer, but the question was how much would she have to push to get what she sought?

His duties certainly had changed since returning from Colchis, Queen and baby in tow. No longer was he required to be as on his guard as he had been before. But he also couldn’t just relax in the safety of her home, either. There were still too many variables for him to consider-- the ones who had killed the previous king was still alive. Which meant that the chances of them coming after Olympia and Tisiphone were still high, in his tome. But her family was close by, and her father had seen fit to provide guards as well.
It was impossible to deny that the letter sent to him by Princess Xene caught him off guard. In his mind, there didn’t appear to be any reason in which he would need to speak with her. He was a foreign born guard, working simply at the request of the exiled king to keep those he loved safe. There was a temptation to ignore the summons, to burn the note and continue about his duties.
On the other hand, this was said exile king’s sister, which made his sense of duty pause in front of the fires. As much as he would have liked to pretend he didn’t get it, he did not wish to embarrass the Queen, should she decide to question the reason he ignored it. So instead, he left the Queen in the company of her family and their guards and headed towards the residence of the Princess Xene in the palati.
He should have hired a hack, as the amount of walking he would have to do there and back would cause his leg to ache painfully by the end of the day. But as as simple man, he instead made his way on foot. His arrival was treated as if he was a noble instead of the son of a whore. But life had put him close to the rich and wealthy, so it was not as if he felt more out of place than normal. His eyes followed the servant as she left him on the steps outside of the solar, announcing his presence to the princess. But he held back, waiting for an invitation from her to come forward.

The princess was quick to meet the man in question, taking the announcement of his arrival in stride. She removed herself from the lounge and started toward the entrance of the solar rooms, noting that the man did not follow the invitation of the servant. Such was fine. Some people would rather have been greeted entirely by their hosts. It was no problem for Xene to do so now as she approached him. "Alistair," the princess mused as she stepped toward the entrance. She offered him her hand and then lead him into the rooms.
"I wish to welcome you to Taengea and the Palati," she said lightly, glancing up toward the ceilings and then around the room itself. "It is beautiful, is it not?" she questioned, then motioned toward the sitting space where she had had a spread of food set out for the both of them. "Thank you for attending to me. I called you here because I have a few questions for you that I did not want to ask in front of Lady Olympia or my little niece," she noted as they moved together back toward the seats.
Sitting herself down, Xene motioned for him to join her once more. "I wish to know about my brother," her voice took on a bit of a hushed tone as she thought through her words carefully, considering their company and that anyone could end up hearing them at any point. Most people know that the solar rooms were a favorite hide away of the young princess. "I have reason to believe that you have been in contact with him while my sister was away," she said slowly. "I wish to know how he fairs. Is he well? Is all well with my sister, too?" She thought it best to simply launch into the questions on her mind, not wanting to mince words or let their encounter linger too long.
The longer they spoke, the more a person could hear, and Xene wasn't keen on people listening into her conversations. She had little birds for her own use, but she chose to keep her guard up, her gaze drifting casually around the room once more before landing upon the guard once more.
