Holy smokes! Whoever thought that we would be here ladies and gents? Aeipathy is officially two years old! On the 6th June 2020, Aeipathy passed it's second consecutive year of activity. And that is two years of activity. Not a launch, a lull, a death and a revamp and a redo. That's two solid years of activity. Our membership and community have seen the birth of babies (both real life and in character), the loss of jobs and marriages, the triumph of graduations (excuse the shit sandwich). We have officially become forum and community that has lived long enough to see its membership actually live. To get to know them and truly be friends and comrades in the writing game that we all know and love.
So! How do we celebrate our annual anniversary? Well, as those who have been around for a long time know - we hold the Aeipathy Olympics! For a solid month, we offer rounds of contests that people can participate in and win glorious prizes and awards for their profiles. This is the only time of the year that you can win these prizes so keep your eyes sharp!
Calling All Contenders
Welcome to the Aeipathy Olympics! Before anyone gets too concerned (or excited) this event has nothing to do with physical strength or dexterity and involves no mandatory nudity (what you decide to wear in the comfort of your own home on a voluntary basis is entirely up to you). So, on to what the event does entail... we have a range of diverse competitions across categories that focus on different skill-sets, designed so that every member can at least find something in the below options that they might lend a hand or skill to. These competitions are designed to get our current members and characters stuck into the forum, and really get its roleplaying heart pumping as we set off on our third year of activity! Not to mention getting our community working together or in healthy competition just for the awesome fun of it! So, without further ado, let's announce the competitions...
How To Play
You can choose to compete in one, two or all of the rounds listed below in whatever order you like. All rounds close at 12:00am on the 15th July 2020.
All Second and Third place winners will receive the appropriate Bronze and Silver Aeipathy Olympian awards and full bragging rights. The Granx Prize for each round can be found listed under that round's information.
Please note! If you've played the Olympics before, be sure to read the below information carefully. Most of the rounds have had tweaks to the rules or been entirely revamped. So, make sure you read them carefully before you get stuck in!
Round One Graphic Design
Calling all gfxers and photomanipulators! Think you have the photoshop skills to take on the other members of Aeipathy? This particular competition is a test of aesthetic skills and graphic design, created for those who have an affinity for layers, brushes and curves.
OBJECTIVE
Create one image on the theme of Aeipathy. This could be a logo, a background image, a side image - something on a large-scale, digital canvas that you think is an encapsulation of Aeipathy. It can be character focused, theme-specific or just a general ancient world type aesthetic. Let your creativity go wild!
RULES
- Canvas must be bigger than 5000x5000 pixels. Can be in any orientation, scale or shape, but must be large-canvas (hence the 5000x5000 pixel minimum area size).
- Each member can enter more than one image, in more than one entry.
- Each image must be submitted by a single member - no group efforts.
GRAND PRIZE
The first place winner of this round will be awarded 20 Challenge Points and awarded the Gold Aeipathy Olympian award. Their artwork will be uploaded to JD's RedBubble account and produced as a piece of merchandise able to be bought and paid for by the general public. Their work will also be published across our social media.
Round Two Traditional Art
Not such a whizz at digital art but love your brushes, pencils and glue-sticks? Well, here's the round for you! Not only are we open to those making art with a computer and mouse, but with their own hands too!
OBJECTIVE
To enter this contest, create a piece of artwork dedicated to or inspired by Aeipathy. Literally the sky is the limit, you can make this in any way you like - painting, drawing, sculpture - so long as the final product was not put together on a computer. The art piece can be focused on one element of Aeipathy or more thematic.
RULES
- You must be able to take high quality photographs of your entry in order to submit them.
- Computers can be used in the production of elements of the artwork but not in the final assembly/creation.
- One entry per member.
- Each entry must be submitted by a single member - no group efforts.
GRAND PRIZE
The first place winner of this round will be awarded 20 Challenge Points and awarded the Gold Aeipathy Olympian award. The winner of this category will have the opportunity to donate their work to an upcoming auction event in the summer. This will go towards helping to fund new features and bonus material on Aeipathy. Photos of their work will also be published across our social media.
Round Three Film Making
Calling all Spielberg wannabes! Always considered yourself a dab hand at Adobe Premier or any other kind of software? Want to take your input on the forum to the next level? Ready to call: lights, camera, action? Then this is the competition for you...
Objective
Create a video for the Aeipathy roleplay game. This could be a trailer in movie making style, it could be a character AMV. It could be a comedy bit in which you interview, Letterman style, characters from the site. Whatever you want to do! It can be anything you like that you think might help to encourage more viewers and writers to the site, or that you think members will just love! We're looking for style here! So, whether you're using footage from other sources or filming your own, take some pride in how its put together and ensure that polish has the best gleam it can manage!
Rules
- Free rein on text/taglines used. Any typoes, however, will have your entry immediately disqualified.
- Footage used should not be obvious to original canon - Ergo, please don't use something that has someone else's stamp or logo over it. Allow your viewers to suspend disbelief.
- Must have the title of the site - 'Aeipathy' - utilised somewhere/somehow in the video. At the end, in the credits, is fine.
- Group efforts and collaborations allowed.
Grand Prize
First place winners in this round will receive 30 Challenge Points, the Gold Aeipathy Olympian award on their profiles and their video artistry uploaded to our Youtube channel for all the world to see!
Round Four Writing
Ready to really put your writing skills to the test? If you think you're a serious writer who one day might want to sink their teeth into creating a full manuscript, then how about giving this particular round a go...?
Objective
Write the first chapter of a novel set in the world of Aeipathy. This chapter could be about your own characters, about someone else's, about our unclaimed canons and wanteds. It could be about completely original characters you just came up with. The key here, is that you're writing it within our world and our story. So, pick a part of our story told so far - could be back when we first started, could be when you personally first joined the site and come up with your opening gambit for a story - as if you were sitting down to write the first chapter of an Aeipathy novel. Can be set in any realm or kingdom, focusing on a side or main plot. It's entirely up to you. The key is, to write something that hooks a reader in the first few pages.
Rules
- Story must be set in the world of Aeipathy - not Lands Afar.
- Chapter must be over 7,000 words.
- Chapter can be a single chunk of text, or broken into different pieces from different viewpoints.
- Must be written in third person, past tense.
Grand Prize
The first place winner of this round will receive 20 Challenge Points, the Gold Aeipathy Olympian award and be given the opportunity to work with JD on one of her global plotlines for the site - either for our current Realms, or a future one.
Round Five Roleplay
Ready to prove you're the king or queen of roleplay? Crack those knuckles ladies and gents - it's time to prove your epicness!
Objective
The aim of the game on this one is abundantly simple. Be the roleplayer on Aeipathy who is currently writing with the most other members. Simple right? But let me break it down... At any point during the month of the Aeipathy Olympics you can submit your entry to this round with a claim of how many other members (not characters - members) you are actively roleplaying with. Actively roleplaying is defined by a thread that is currently and has been posted to by any party within the last two weeks and are a thread solely between the two of you.
Rules
- Upon submittance, all threads that are stated as evidence MUST be open.
- Upon submittance, all threads that are used as evidence MUST have been posted in within the last two weeks of the submittance date - else they are not classified as 'active'.
- Each member you are roleplaying with counts as one point, regardless of how many characters they are roleplaying with you at any one time. This is an aim to spread your member net wide, not your character net.
- AU threads are permitted in case canon interaction isn't possible between you and another member's characters. However, only AU Threads where canon interaction is realistically impossible will be permitted to count. So, if you can rp IC, then do.
- Event threads count but only if there are only two members involved in that event. All threads must be one-on-one. So, if perchance you are the only two in an event, it counts. Otherwise, nope.
Grand Prize
The first place winner of this round will receive 30 Challenge Points and the Gold Aeipathy Olympian award for their profiles. They will also have the opportunity to work with JD and create their event threads for the site: one Event and one Provincial Story, in whichever kingdoms they want.
Round Six Advertising
In the past, this round has been a game of spreading our advert far and wide and getting the name of Aeipathy out there. This year, however, we're going to run it a little differently (look out for our Summer Spectacular though - because our advertising game will be back...) Here's how it works: Write a positive review of Aeipathy, highlighting the elements that you like the most about our site or community, in the form of a letter to a potential member. Fun, right?
Objective
Beginning your letter - 'Dear Traveller...', 'Hi Potential Member...' or something of a similar ilk, write a positive encouragement/review of Aeipathy. The purpose of the letter should be to encourage uncertain newcomers who are browsing the site and looking over our information to take the plunge and dive in.
Rules
- The letter/review must begin and end like a letter. - Dear, and From etc.
- The letter/review must be over 400 words to qualify as an entry.
- We're looking for friendliness, style and encouragement in tone and purpose.
- Any letters with typoes will be immediately disqualified.
- One letter/review per member. No group efforts or collaborations.
Grand Prize
The first place winner of this round wins 10 Challenge Points, the Gold Aeipathy Olympian award and will have their work used on our forum in our welcome pages, as a feature encouraging newcomers to join our ranks.
Ready, Set...
And just remember everyone - this is supposed to be fun! No stress, no pressure. Have fun with it! We look forward to seeing all your awesome results! Have fuuun!
Go! .

Round Two Traditional Art
OBJECTIVE
Create one image on the theme of Aeipathy. This could be a logo, a background image, a side image - something on a large-scale, digital canvas that you think is an encapsulation of Aeipathy. It can be character focused, theme-specific or just a general ancient world type aesthetic. Let your creativity go wild!

Round Five Roleplay
Runners Up...
Huge shout out and congrats to the following people who have snagged the Bronze and Silver awards in this category! Asteria you take home the Bronze with upwards of 10 different members in one on one threads! Pam you've secured the silver for your claim of 15! Both of you have been awarded your medals on your accounts and you have full bragging rights for your achievements!
Grand Prize Winner
Our grand prize winner, however, with a storming total of 17 active threads with other members is Faraday! Congratulations on your win, and I look forward to working with you on your prize!!
Awarded
Faraday, your grand prize win is a total of 20 Aeipathy points which you can spend in the store straight away should you wish, and an Event and Provincial Story of your own creation! Looking forward to working with you to create two epic group stories that others can follow along with. You can use them now or save them for later - it is entirely your choice. Your only deadline is next years Olympics! Congratulations on being an awesome roleplaying partner to so many in our community!
Congratulations To All
