Adelpha met Esmerelda's narrowed eyes with furrowed brows of her own. What had she done to earn such anger and hate?
But then it all made sense once Silanos had arrived to save the day, as it were. Her prsence wasn't exactly wanted by the household. Adelpha held the wrapped up paintimg firmly, almost as though it was a shield that could protect her as she stepped inside. Already the dynamics of the place was well noted. Silanos appeared to be the black sheep of the family, much like she was. Whatever he chose to do or not to do seemed to vex at least one person. Was this what all noble houses was like? Adelpha thanked the Gods that she didn't have to endure it on a day to day basis. Instead she lived alone on the beach with just the seabirds to give her company. There was much freedom in that.
It didn't surprise her at all that he had forgotten her name. "My name is Adelpha. Though that...probably isn't important." At least after today it wouldn't be. She was quite certain that amongst the hustle and bustle of noble life, she'd be as forgotten as any shopkeeper would be.
Adelpha sat herself down on one of the seats, leaning the painting carefully against her leg. She took notice of Silanos' pain, yet it wasn't her place to pry.
"It is the correct painting, Lord Silanos. I wouldn't try to deceive you. Especially as you seem to be...on the mend and unable shop elsewhere, should you change your mind on your purchase." Adelpha kept her poise straight and stiff. She wasn't sure of what to expect here. Was it only for his amusement? Or to reveal just what kinds of trouble he gets into? Or both? Either way Adelpha wasn't planning on letting her guard down just yet.
"I wasn't interupting anything, was I?"

"I wasn't interupting anything, was I?"
The Lord clicked his fingers when she said her name as if it had come back to him all of sudden. “Adelpha, right. Adelpha who lives on the beach.” And then “What? Thought I hadn’t been paying any attention?” He canted his head to the side, that slightly amused expression on his face as he studied her a moment before he waved a hand airily towards the servant that had come in.
“Do have some wine, Adelpha. It’s the least I can offer after you’ve trudged all the way up here.”
There was an odd moment after the servant had poured a cup of wine for Adelpha where the girl half took a step toward Silanos and then stopped, earning herself a sharp look from the Lord, but he didn't correct her or call her back when she left the room, just looked pissed off for a moment before he refocused on his guest.
“Oh well I’m glad to hear it” he responded to her promise that she wouldn’t play false. And he gave a half snort of laughter at her careful words, that turned into a full-blown guffaw when she asked if she was interrupting.
“Well actually yes” Silanos dropped his voice and leant toward her conspiratorially. “You are interrupting the tedium of my evening, so I must thank you for that”
The Lord was not in the habit of accosting random tradespeople and then inviting them in for wine, but desperate times called for desperate measures, and given than climbing out of the window hadn’t gone so well for him last time, Sil had restrained himself and was begrudgingly toeing the line when it came to Timaeus’ edicts. It didn’t mean he was in any way happy about it though, and if he could demonstrate his disdain by inviting all the peasants in Midas in for dinner and entertainment then he might just do that.
Maybe only the pretty ones, Sil adjusted a moment later, before he rolled his eyes and sighed dramatically. “ No really, you are doing me a favour. Entertainment has been scarce around here. Can I see the picture again? That might get me some goodwill if nothing else.”
He stretched out a hand toward Adelpha, expecting her to pass the painting to him, and when she did he unwrapped it and held it arm’s length, gaze narrowed as he inspected it again. There was a stretching silence as he seemed to consider something and then he gave a nod and set it to one side. “It’s good. She’ll like it I’m sure”

"Yes, that's right." Adelpha was indeed surprised that he had remembered. She didn't feel as though she had made any kind of impression; and why would she? Let her artwork speak for her. It was, by all accounts, her best quality. At least in her own opinion.
She took the offered wine in hand, "Thank you." and nodded to the serving girl. The exchange between the girl and Silanos gave her some pause, however. From what she had gathered, the Lord was being restricted on wine for some reason or another. Adelpha stared at her cup for a moment or two. It didn't quite seem fair that she was drinking in front of him when he couldn't partake. So she set out to sip her wine only when he wasn't looking.
Her eyes fell to the floor as Silanos started laughing at her. For a brief second she was about to apologize, but then he seemed to thank her for the interrupted. Adelpha's gaze rose to meet his own as he continued and she wasn't quite certain of what the real Silanos was like. He appeared to be an actor of sorts, portraying a character that evolves in accordance with who his audience was at any given moment. She wondered if he ever found it exhausting.
But it wasn't as though she'd ever ask.
Adelpha handed him the painting and then cradled her cup in her hands after stealing a quick sip from it. "I'm sure that you can find plenty of entertainment in town. Or have you gone through it all already?" Silanos seemed like the type that got bored of something rather quickly. She had little doubt in her mind that he wouldn't last in having her lifestyle at all. Though she probably wouldn't do well with his either.

Silanos wasn’t actually given to acting. More than he didn’t often filter his moods or reactions to appease people, and so they were treated to whatever was flitting through his head at a particular moment. Unless he was trying to talk himself out of trouble of course, then he was more than adroit at playing a part, but that was survival.
His gaze settled briefly on his guest, she was so quiet. Hardly the lowest effort form of distraction, but then Sil supposed beggars could not be choosers. The Lord had only a passing interest in seeing the painting again, he would have one of the servants wrap it to send on to Eubocris and perhaps redeem himself a little as far as his mother was concerned. He did feel a little guilty about the way he’d left, but he couldn’t exactly undo it, so maybe the picture would help.
He raised his eyes from the canvas and back to the artist as she made a comment - a little too astute for his liking - about his ability to find entertainment, and this time he rolled his eyes as he set the picture aside, one arm lifting to gesture to the room they sat in.
“My prospects for entertainment are rather limited being confined to this house,” he said dryly, levelling a gaze at her. “Unless of course, you’re offering?” He was mostly teasing, seeing if he could get a rise out of the shy artist, but then, if she did offer he wasn’t about to say no. So this was a win-win for Silanos whichever way it went.
Yawning widely, the young lord stretched and then kicked up his feet on the kline he sat upon, folding his arms across his chest and looking expectantly at Adelpha. Surely some amusement could be found here?
“So look,” he said, sounding almost bored already. “You came all the way up here. Just due diligence or are you subconsciously longing for something to bring a little excitement to your life?”

"Well I am not much of a singer and I didn't bring any supplies to paint for you here." She spoke first before thinking. That was a mistake. No doubt Silanos had other things in mind and that all just blew over her head. At least for a brief moment.
Adelpha sipped her wine, taking note of his posture and attitude. He was bored certainly. Part of that was probably due to whatever situation got him grounded. And the other was due to herself. Neither of which were good. They were from two very different lives and although they say that sometimes opposites can attract, she wasn't entirely sure that that would happen here if first impressions were any indication.
"You asked me to deliver the painting, so I did. You paid well enough for it." More than likely it was beneath him to carry around something like that too. Or perhaps there was the chance that he was a clumbsy sort that couldn't be entrusted with such things.
"I suppose..." Adelpha chewed the inside of her cheek a little in thought. Maybe she could be brave enough to speak her thoughts without consequences. "..that curiosity led me here too. I don't really get much of an opportunity to see the way that people like you live. Is it often that young men are confined to the house?" Maybe Silanos was the type to run away from home a lot. Yes, that idea was probably the more plausible one.

A steady gaze rested upon Adelpha as she explained that had she neither paints nor voice to entertain him, the flicker of a smirk at the lord’s mouth enough to clue the girl in that perhaps that wasn’t the kind of distraction he’d been suggesting.
“Right yes...well I suppose that puts paid to that idea doesn't it” he drawled, looking away now and barely resisting rolling his eyes. This one was too innocent by half. And it was like she hadn’t conceived any other possible notion for him inviting her in that to hand over the painting. Her answer proved as much and Sil glanced at the painting and shrugged.
“I suppose I did. Does that make me a patron of the arts?” But something in the girl had changed and he shut up as she went on speaking, brows lifting in amusement at the ‘people like you’ comment. It was quite bold of her to reference their difference in station so openly. And he full-on laughed at the idea that she’d be walking around now thinking that young noblemen weren’t allowed out, because of him.
“Sadly, that is a situation that pertains only to myself,” he said woefully. “Would you believe it?”
Of course, she had nothing to judge by outside of their brief encounter in the market and now ..this, which Silanos really wasn’t sure what he was intending to do with. He was just bored and antsy and it had seemed like a good idea, and she was pretty, if altogether too shy and reserved for his tastes. “So, Adelpha” Yes, he really had gotten her name locked down now. Success “ You’ve gotten a glimpse now, how we live. I’d offer you a tour but, well I can’t be bothered. So thoughts? Does it live up to your expectations? Or are you disappointed?”
Maybe there was some idle curiosity on his part as to what she’d thought she’d find. It was amusing to think her imagining them as some strange creatures to be observed in their natural habitat. Though, and this had him sigh, his natural habitat was not being stuck in this house for however many godsdamned hours a day.
“Are you hungry?” He asked suddenly, looking her over. Maybe she didn’t get to eat often enough. She couldn’t make much money on selling paintings. “I can have something brought to you if you want?”

Adelpha glanced away from Silanos as he smirked. Oh yes she had understood what he had meant by entertainment. Albeit a few seconds after she spoke. But really what would the point of that be? More than likely it'd result in her getting into far more trouble than it was worth. So she wasn't planning on indulging him.
She sipped her wine and then set the cup aside before getting to her feet and moving about the room, lightly touching the furniture, the pottery and any other artistic piece that decorated the room. "A patron of the arts buys many art pieces, some of them rare and expensive. From what I've witnessed, you're not quite there yet." Especially as her paintings were neither rare nor expensive.
Could she believe that Silanos alone was stuck inside his home? Yes, she very well could. Adelpha looked outside of the window to catch the view; his house being so much higher than her own.
Of course she didn't answer his sarcastic question. Instead she chose to bypass it altogether and move onto the next one. "If I am permitted to speak my thoughts freely,..I am disappointed." Adelpha turned around to face him, lightly folding her arms across her chest. "But that's not really unexpected, is it? From the moment that I knocked on the door I was met with scowls. It's as though everyone here takes what they have for granted and are...well, angry about it. To be surrounded by such beauty and oppulance...you should be grateful for it. There are so many people out there that would wish this for even a day." Not that it ever mattered to the nobles anyways.
Adelpha lightly shrugged her shoulders as she sighed. "You should thank the Gods that the only thing that you have to be upset about is being grounded. There are far worse fates than that."
She shook her head at the offer for food. More than likely she'd be served what should be left for the servants and Adelpha didn't feel like inviting more scowls. "No, I'm not hungry. I have some bread and fish waiting for me at home. But thank you anyways, Lord Silanos." She felt the need to give out his name and title, moreso to remind her of her place. She was out of her element here.
Adelpha turned to look back out of the window again, if only to keep herself from seeing him roll his eyes again. "Have you ever thought of how people like me live?"

He’d watched her as she’d gotten up and wandered the room, made no move to shift from his sprawl but just let the blue of his eyes shift with her. And news that he didn’t qualify as a patron of the arts was hardly a disappointment. “ Oh well. Must try harder” he said dryly. Perhaps this had been a bad idea, he mused. As he watched her .This Adelpha did not seem amiable to providing him much sport, she had resisted most of all his attempts at flirtation. How dull.
But Silanos was at least mildly encouraged in the next moment, when she spoke from her spot next to the window. “Oh please do” he waved a hand for her to go on, because no one ever asked for permission to speak freely unless they were going to say something controversial. And Sil did like a bit of controversy.
The lord’s amusement was only partially tempered when what the girl meant by speaking freely was actually to tell him off on a delightfully sanctimonious fashion. He laughed.
“ Well fuck. Sorry. I shall endeavour to be more grateful” Silanos said, looking anything but censored. “ And I’ll ensure I speak to the staff to ensure our guests are met only with smiles henceforth.”
But his brashness dimmed a little as she sighed and Silanos supposed it must seem a little bratty to those who were not so fortunate. Only he couldn’t help his blood and he wasn’t going to fucking apologise for his birthright. Tough breaks for her.
“ Alright yes, there are probably worse fates. But you also haven’t met my brother so I suggest you reserve judgement until then.”
Timaeus was not in his good books just then, his elder sibling’s overbearing side being the one that Silanos had the pleasure of dealing with lately. And even if Sil could begrudgingly understand the why it didn’t mean he had to like it, and he’d make damn sure that he let everyone know about it.
And she couldn’t be that hard up if she refused his kind offer of food, could she
“ Can’t say that I have given it much thought” he said, kicking his legs off the Kline and patting the space next to him. “ Why don’t you come educate me?”

Adelpha frowned ever so slightly. Silanos was either not understanding, or just patronizing her on purpose. "No, they shouldn't be forced to pretend to be happy. They should want to do so on their own." She chewed her cheek a little. How long was she allowed to speak freely for? She had plenty more to say, yet doing so would probably only get her into trouble. "Maybe they are just following your example?" From what she could gather, Silanos seemed great at pretending.
In response to his comments on his brother, Adelpha merely shrugged her shoulders. "I don't think that I have met your brother, no. But I don't entirely understand what you mean by that statement." Silanos' brother could be the cruel sort. Perhaps that was what he had meant. Adelpha was an only child. Sibling rivalry was a foreign concept to her. She had heard some stories while growing up. Yet it was hard to tell what was embellished and what was true.
It came at no surprise that Silanos never thought as to how people of her station live. More often than not, people often daydreamed about better lives beyond their grasp. And in his case, her life was far beneath whatever dreams he may have.
Adelpha turned from the window. Silanos was sitting up now, which appeared to be more of a sign that she had his attention. Not wanting to squandor it, she approached the kline and sat down next to him, making sure that there was at least a half an arm's length between them. "Well...a good many of us take pride in the work that we do. And if others appreciate our efforts, then it makes it all worthwhile." She took him in for a moment, studying his features if only to determine whether or not he was just humouring her. "There isn't a lot that we can afford, so what we do have is cherished all the more. Yet more often than not we are taken advantage of and ridiculed by those lucky enough to have been born in high society." Yet that wasn't something that either of them could control or had a choice in. Once again Adelpha redirected her gaze to the other art pieces in the room. "I think that I stood fast to being an artist despite my Father's objections in part because whatever I create I do so for myself before I decide to sell it to others. Those paintings are but glimpses in how I see the world."
Just what it was that nobles did besides eat, shop and boss others around was unknown to her. "What is it that you do for work, Lord Silanos?"

The lord’s face betrayed his confusion. What the fuck? Now it was his fault that the staff didn’t smile at peasants at the door, but it was also wrong for him to tell them to? And he just stared at her when she said she didn’t understand what he meant about his brother. Were they not speaking the same language?
“I just meant he's a..you know what, nevermind. You probably will never meet him so it's irrelevant”
The majority of what came out of Silanos’ mouth was flippant, throw away comments. He wasn’t one given to debating philosophy and he certainly hadn’t reckoned on having some deep and meaningful discussion around his personal circumstances and that of the rest of Colchis when he’d invited the pretty artist in. Trying to steer the encounter back to something less taxing and more enjoyable, he beckoned her over and his lips quirked in a smile when she moved to join him. Good girl.
Urgh, though she sat about as far from him as she could and Sil couldn't decide if he was amused or just fed up of all the effort he was putting in for what really. Putting a placid smile on his face, he entertained himself by trying to guess what colour her nipples might be under her chiton. She was an artist, she would appreciate such attention to detail if she knew, he was sure of it.
‘....“I think that I stood fast to being an artist despite my Father's objections in part because whatever I create I do so for myself before I decide to sell it to others. Those paintings are but glimpses in how I see the world.’
Rosy he’d decided because her skin was fair and her lips were pinkish. And then realising she’d stopped talking and there was some expectant pause he nodded. What the fuck had she been talking about?
“Yeah. Ok” That was suitable vague he figured, and when she didn't look terribly shocked he thought he’d gotten away with it. “You have a very pretty complexion” he threw out there.”Do you tan?”
But then she was asking him what he did for work and he pulled a face. Her too? Timaeus had been on his case about spending his time doing something useful and honestly, Silanos couldn't think of anything worse. He was quite happy not be useful thanks.
“I am a devout worshipper of Dionysus” he responded with almost a straight face. “My faith demands a lot of my time. But look..who wants to talk about work. I’m much more interested in what you do to enjoy yourself?”

Adelpha clenched her jaw slightly. She was speaking too much out of turn. Silanos at times looked offended, other times confused and there were even some moments where he just drifted off in his own thoughts.
She wondered how long it would be before she had overstayed her welcome. That moment could come at any time now.
But then Silanos spoke about her skin. Adelpha blinked in surprise as she was caught off guard by such a statement. "Thank you...and no, at least not on purpose. I may get a bit of colour if I'm not in under a canopy at the market, or if I'm painting on a sunny day. I just wouldn't want to burn." She didn't like the feel of burned skin anyways. It was too dry and harsh.
"Dionysius?" Was he joking? Or? The look on his face suggested otherwise and Adelpha then deduced that it was partially the cause of his behaviour. "I think that I understand now..." Her words hung in the air as she tucked a few curls of her hair behind her ear as she pondered on what she should reveal in her answer. He could like it, he could not. "I enjoy painting and learning other art forms. My Father doesn't appreciate what I paint. He felt that I should only paint warriors and battle, but I don't see that. I'd need for such a scene to be frozen in place, or to have models hold the poses for me. But I can't afford to hire them." She also wanted to try her hand in sculpting. Yet she'd need to study the human form even more and get a good feel of them so that she could transfer it to clay. But that would involve far too much touching of a stranger's body; even if they were a model. No doubt they wouldn't be comfortable with that.

She didn’t seem easily won over by compliments which was annoying, Sil thought as he eyes her expectantly before his gaze widened a little. “Oh no. Wouldn’t want to burn and ruin that lovely skin. That would be a travesty” Gods this conversation would be easier with a drink. She couldn’t tell when he was joking or serious, that much was apparent, in fact, much of what he said seemed to float over her head. Unless she was deliberately ignoring the suggestive comments he’d made.
How fucking annoying.
“Do you now?” he asked with an insolent sort of grin, leaning forward to sweep one of those pieces of hair she kept toying with away from her face. Throwing subtlety to the wind because really, who could be bothered, he let his hand linger, his fingers tracing down the side of her jaw and didn’t immediately pull back from the closeness he’d created. He wasn’t being particularly coy about what he might enjoy.
But fuck, there she was talking about godsdamned art again and with an exaggerated huff, Silanos let himself fall back onto the kline as he very obviously rolled his eyes to the skies this time.
“Sounds thrilling,” he said, in a tone that suggested the opposite. So much for an easy bit of fun with the pretty painter girl. This was all becoming far too much like hard work. Next, she’d be telling him how her great Aunt didn’t like it when she painted in blue or some other fucking nonsense that he didn't give a shit about.
Still looking at the ceiling instead of his guest Sil decided to just lay the cards on the table before he had to endure any more finance chatter or sanctimonious preaching. “Look...Adelpha. Do you want to fool around a little? Fuck? Because honestly...if you don’t then let's save us both the trouble and you can just…” he made a little shooing gesture with his hand. “No hard feelings”
He yawned. He did have a nice picture to send to his mother than might go some way to claw him out her -everyone’s- bad books, so the exercise wasn't a complete waste of time even if it didn’t look like it was going to end the way he’d hoped. Maybe she liked women or something, he didn’t know and really couldn’t be bothered to find out.

Well now Silanos was joking with her, or making fun of her. Adelpha really couldn't tell which. He was nothing but a confusing and frustrating puzzle. She was absolutely certain that he felt the same way. His quick changes in emotions told her as much. There wasn't a lot that was concrete about him.
And then his fingers traced her jawline. Adelpha's eyes half closed while her body relaxed a little at the touch. It was a subconscious reaction, yet she couldn't help but have her thoughts drift towards other things...
Yet his reactions towards her answers to his very own questions took her away from those sensual thoughts. Which was probably a good thing. They were from two vastly different worlds, with just as vastly different outlooks on life. How could she even entertain the very idea that he was truly interested in what she had to say at all? Like most of the lower class, it was better for her to be seen and not heard.
And then there was the clincher; the true purpose of why he asked her to come. The looks from the staff now made sense. He had asked her here just to be a plaything for him. Well, if she was to be used, then she was well prepared to use him back. Afterall, she had nothing to lose.
"Well that depends, Lord Silanos. Are you an intimate lover, or a selfish one? I am the former, given that I'm an artist. And given your..." Now it was Adelpha's turn to give him the once-over, while speaking softly. "..physique, I would take the opportunity to study your form for sculpting. But that would include me touching and tracing my hands all over you so that I could get a feel for every muscle you have and how they bulge with movement." She shrugged her shoulders a little as if him turning her down didn't matter. "However if you're just a selfish lover that's only in it for yourself, then I will just go home. And no hard feelings."

He was prepared for a squawk of outrage or perhaps a quietly wounded look. The girl just didn’t seem to be following his train of thought and Silanos could rarely be bothered to really pursue women. Certainly not some low-born, who ought to be flattered that he was showing interest at all.
So the blue eyes of the Lord shifted to rest upon Adelpha as she went to answer, betraying his indifference. He’d only really half-formed the thought of fucking her because he was bored and it was something to do. She could be offended if she wanted, it was no skin off his nose. He’d probably never see her again.
But maybe he’d misjudged, for the girl’s words were not meek or apologetic or upset and that had Silanos pay a little more attention, one eyebrow quirking as she spoke. There was a small snort as her gaze wandered over him quite obviously, and the lord pushed up onto his elbows. The fact that she threw his own words back at him amused him.
“I’m not going to recite you poetry if thats what you’re asking” he said, looking at her doubtfully “But yes, fucking usually involves touching. Have you been doing it wrong?” He let his eyes meander their own path over her, slowly up and down until they settled back on her face, bright with mischief. Now they were talking. The Lord was in it for himself, that much went without saying. He didn’t owe her anything or have any intention of pursuing anything beyond whatever fun he could get out of her, but Silanos also liked to think he knew his way around a woman’s body enough that she wouldn’t have any complaints. He’d consider it rather an affront if she did.
“I’m not going to object to you running your hands over me” he went on “And I’m not an artist but I’m pretty sure I could play your body the right way to make you see stars. How’s that for inspiration for you?”

Adelpha raised a brow as Silanos seemed to believe that intimacy meant the reading of poetry. No doubt he was thinking that she was expecting some kind of courtship, which was an absurd notion. There was no real attraction for either side.
"I haven't been doing it wrong. My partners on the other hand..." Adelpha wasn't a virgin, yet she was never quite satisfied either. Her sexual experiences were quick and one sided; a few minutes at best. Yet she knew enough that there was more to it than that. Her mother had explained it to her a while ago. She was an artist as well and intimate by nature. What was surprising was that most others weren't like that. Perhaps she was too unique to Colchis. The desire to explore outside of it grew almost daily.
"You're the inspiration. Not what you think you can do to me." She had little confidence that Silanos would be any different than anything else. Boys were always full of talk and promises that they were incapable of fulfilling. Adelpha suspected that the very same thing would happen here.
She inched herself towards him more so that she could have a proper reach of his face and gently placed her hands on either side, carressing his cheeks with her thumbs. Adelpha's gaze didn't linger on his eyes at all. Instead they seemed to study his features. "Close your eyes, please..." Her voice was soft as she traced her fingers gently along his face, moving to the jawline and down his neck, feeling almost like a light massage. Her hands were warm and smooth to the touch as they took their time, moving to disrobe his torso so that his chest was exposed. It was less muscular than she had expected, but then again he wasn't a soldier or hardworking type. Beggers can't be choosers, however. Surprisingly there was tension in his shoulders that his attitude betrayed, so Adelpha began to massage them. "You can lay back soon, if you'd like, once I'm done with your shoulders. Unless of course you just want me to stop?"
