It was cold and Daniil wanted nothing more then to snuggle under her covers and sleep. on the other hand it was too early to be awake, but the cold made it hard to sleep, but she tried to close her eyes and willed herself back into dreamland.
She had no idea how long she was back there, but the fact that someone was shaking her and calling her name was what pulled her awake. She rolled over and looked at the intruder though a single open eyes. The intruder was her favorite servant, Melissa.
"Mistress Your father is requesting that you join him in the dining room." Daniil closed her eyes and let out a long sigh that was mixed with a moan, but she knew better then to keep Pavlos waiting.
"Fetch me a bath and dress Melissa. I am not going down to my father looking like a ragamuffin."
Melissa was quick to comply and in a shot span of time Daniil was washed dressed and coifed. She looked like the young lady she was born to be, not the tomboy that displeased Pavlos so much. She was in no mood to set him off today.
When she moved into the dining room she found Pavlos waiting and the expression that brought his youngest daughter to a halt. His face showed little, but Daniil just knew, call it instinct, that Pavlos was not amused. She sighed and moved to join him at the table.
Her voice came out in a squeak as she greeted her father. Good morning Father." Pavlos nodded an then said, "You will be traveling to visit your cousin." Daniil's mouth fell open in shock. From his tone there was no room for anything but acquiescence. He noticed her reaction and said sharply, "Close your mouth daughter, you are not a fish, and if you refuse, I will take you there myself. Perhaps some time with her will make you accept that you are a Lady and a princess."
Daniil nodded and said gently, "Yes Sir. and she pasted a smile on her face. Pavlos nodded and with swiftness that always surprised the petite brunette, made her a plate of various fruits and cheeses and set it in front of her. "Once you are done here you will draft a missive to inform your cousin, Princess Emilia of my request and when she confirms that she is willing, you will travel to the palace.". Pavlos was a man that was used to being obeyed without question from all those that were under him, and that included his children.
Daniil obeyed, not out of sheer obedience, but rather out of love and respect for her father. The rest of the meal passed in silence. Once they were both finished, Pavlos took his leave and left his daughter to carrry out his orders. Daniil watched her father's retreating back with the ghost of a smile on her face and once he was gone she got up and headed back to her room.
In her absence Melissa had made her bed and now waited for her just outside the door. "I will need you to take a missive to Princess Emilia and then once you return you will pack my trunks for at least a week. Now if you can find me a piece of my good vellum and my favorite quill."
Melissa nodded and was back a short time with both and Daniil set to work writing. Once she was done she dried the surface by waving her hand over it gently. Once she was sure it was dry, she rolled it up and tied it off with a goldenrod ribbon so that it identified which house it was from and then she handed to Melissa and sent her off.
While she waited for her servant to return she went to her wardrobe and made a mental list of what she wanted to see packed. When Melissa returned sometime later they set to work on the packing. Once that was done the trunk of clothes were loaded onto one to the family carriages and Daniil set out to dress for her trip.
It was late in the afternoon, nearing evening when she began her journey. Once she arrived she asked to have her things taken to her room and with a soft chuckle, went off in search of her cousin.

She was going for court. She was going for court.
Emilia still has yet to sink in that Persephone had started bringing her for court sessions a year ago. Each time her sister reminded her that she was to attend court to assist her in handling the queries and to entertain the nobility in attendance, Emilia would always go into a little of a flurry as she prepared. She was already a princess who had an extensive wardrobe before this. But ever since she turned fifteen? That wardrobe has expanded exponentially. Her father and sister had been nice enough to ensure she now had a live in seamstress in the palace to accomodate to all her changes to chitons and himations that she required in an instant, on top of pandering to Emilia's little requests here and there as to what her chiton needed to look like. With the requests being specific and very often, it seemed less of a hassle to just hire the seamstress within the palace.
Even without being someone who was attending court or social events, Emilia had grown up knowing she was to be a princess, and had spent hours perfecting the part. She had an eye for color, a talent for picking the best cloth, and all in all just fit the princess box to a perfect tee. Every maid and slave in the palace knew better then to question her decision when it came to fashion, and since she turned sixteen, Emilia had also began to decide on the wardrobe and outfit of her sister, insisting that Persephone needed to be way more glammed up then what she was currently wearing, if she was to push her way through to be heiress to the Athenian throne.
The missive from Daniil had been... an interesting one. She and Daniil had occasionally met, or rather ran in to one another whenever Pavlos's family visited her father and sister in the palati. In general however, Minas tended to ask his youngest to remain in her playroom or quarters during family visitations, with the girl being too young in her father's eyes to partake in the serious discussions being done between themselves and Pavlos. Not that Emilia minded. She had no wish to be drawn into boring conversations, and was much happier matching jewelry and sketching her next outfit idea.
Still, that Daniil has been asked by Pavlos to visit intrigued Emilia's young mind. The note did not sound at all like her cousin was willing... yet Emilia was not of mind to refuse the missive. Persephone would not agree to her denying a letter from someone of the royal family, and so she had Helen quickly scrawl a reply that ascertained Daniil's visit, and asked for her cousin to look for her in the room on the top floor of the palati, where the seamstresses were. It was a large room that Emilia had asked for her wardrobe to be kept. Her chitons were folded into chests stacked up against the furthest end of the wall. A long window would greet anyone who walked in immediately, along the wall which many bolts of fabric were stacked. A new shipment had came in just the night before, with fabric hailing from many places, be it the Grecian kingdoms, or even the faraway lands. All of them were assembled as Emilia had instructed them to with each new shipment, and it was to this little show that she walked in. The two seamstresses stood to a side awaiting for the princess as she strode in, Helen on her heels.
In her pale pink chiton, the softness of the fabric was enhanced with the bright red woven belt she had around her waist. Brunette curls were held up by an ivy leaf circlet, a teardrop emerald falling just between her eyes. Golden bangles were on both upper arm and around her wrists, her bare feet treading on cold grounds. The himation she wore was in the same red, the edges threaded through with the gold of her crown, and thicker for the cold months. The room however, had been heated by her maids and slaves, as they usually were the moment she woke up. As such, it was warm enough for Emilia to slip her himation off her shoulders, leaving the chiton as it is whilst she meandered over to the bolts of fabric.
"Is the new peplos for sissy done yet? The one in teal green and gold. She needs it for her next Senate meet. Pair it with the orange himation and make sure her maids know how it is to be worn." Emilia murmured to Helen, her lady's maid immediately heading off to do as instructed, whilst the princess bent down to feel the material of each bolt with her bare fingers, not even noticing as the doors opened with her invited guest for the day.

Daniil's brain was buzzing with a plethora of thoughts as she moved through the halls of the palace. She was curious and a tad nervous. Being allowed to attend court was a very big deal in the life of every noble and royal lady's life. Because of her nature and personality, the idea of going to court makes her nervous. You'd think that the menfolk of the family enjoyed watching you squirm. Your sisters will be a pro at this soon. she thought as she moved.
Daniil and Emilia had crossed paths on a few occasions, mainly when Pavlos chose for the family to visit or they just plain out ran into each other. This was her first visit on her own, and that was a cause for nerves on their own.
Daniil presented the letter to the guard so that she could pass into the family's private area. She followed her cousin's instructions up to the room on the top floor.
Standing in the doorway, Daniil took in the room, smiling. The first thing that she saw was a long window. Sh was impressed and made a mental note that she wanted a window like that someday. Her hazel gaze slid around the room and took in all the chests and the bolts of fabrics. Hearing her cousin's words made Daniil smile and let out a soft laugh. Hearing her comment about Persephone's peplos made her wonder what her own life would be like if her relationship with Agathe was not so stained. s
As she watched the activity in the room she found her mind painting images of what a similar scene would have been like at home. She made a mental note to have a chat with Agathe about her own dress for the Senate meet, even if it made her sister question her own sanity.

Picking up a light burnt orange, sheer piece, Emilia waved over a maid holding the sea blue silk bolt that had just came in that morning. With the maid holding up the silk, the princess compared the burnt orange piece next to it, her eyes narrowing as her mind ran with the ideas. Did the colors match? Perhaps, but not too much or it would be glaringly clashing. "Get a seamstress in - embroider the neck of this peplos with orange motives. Make this into a himation - black clasp." she handed the burnt orange sheer to another waiting maid, and was about to turn to get Helen to bring in the jeweler and smithy's from the shops, when a laugh brought her up short.
Pausing, Emilia turned, and her surprised face melted into a smile as she saw Daniil standing at the doorway of her work room. The smile was not the usual one she gave her sister or her closer friends. She was, after all, not entirely too close with her Marikas cousins, due to their less then happy nature of the House Marikas with her own. Her father had told her of the Marikas's distrust and distaste of the Xanthos's rise to the throne, despite being respectful of her father. Minas had always warned her to tread with caution, as does Persephone.
So Emilia gave a respectful little curtsy. Daniil was still an elder technically, albeit not by much. But Emilia wasn't leave it to chance. Picking up the pink material of the chiton so the material would not sweep the floor, the brunette approached Daniil, speaking only once she had stopped just a couple of steps away from her cousin. "I got your missive, although I have to admit, I am not entirely sure what you mean by Uncle Pavlos wanting you to learn from me. I have scarce been to court as many times, and am new to it." It was a polite but neutral way to refer to the words Daniil had included in her missive. To infer that she was superior to Daniil was impossible, for that would put her as arrogant. However, she cannot grind herself to the ground either.
As such, Emilia took middle ground, and remained neutral, even as she invited Daniil in. "What I can offer however, is to dress you for court session next week." The honeyed eyes of the princess dropped to observe Daniil's outfit, and gave a hum. "You are dressed well, however, court requires... pomp."
Turning over her shoulder, Emilia observed the bolts, and then grinned. With a flick of her wrist, it was as if her maid's knew exactly what to do. Both stepped forward, gave Daniil a respectful bow, before they held her arms up. A third came with Emilia, helping her carry two bolts with her, whilst the princess held a third. One was red, silken and beautiful, gleaming in the mid-afternoon sun. The other, was a soft green, gentle as if it was a spring's day. The last that Emilia held, was a bold gold, sparkling as if jewels themselves were weaved into the very fabric. The red and green went over each arm, one color on either side. The third, Emilia held out and draped around Daniil's shoulder, smiling as she stepped back to observe, contemplating the colours on her cousin. "Do you have a preference, Daniil?"

Daniil watched her cousin as Emilia picked up first a length of sea blue fabric that shimmered as she held it, and then she reached for a swath of a dark orange fabric that was nearly brown it shimmered also so the brunette assumed that both were silk. Only the members of the upper class wore it due to how expensive it was. She watched and listened to her cousin give orders. The sea blue silk would be made into a peplos likely, while the deep orange would be worn as the himation. At her intense suggestion, black pins to join the two together.
Momentarily her mind wandered to thoughts of the sea as the shade reminded Daniil of the harbor just before Poseidon whipped it into a frenzy just prior to a storm. She silently watched her cousin pick up a dark orange material and slide it underneath the blue. The pairing looks good together and with our shared skin tone and dark hair this mix would stand out like a shell in the ocean. I must learn how to do this. I think the family is getting tired of seeing me in drab colors that allow me to blend in with the scenery quite easily. She thought as she heard Emilia give orders for the seamstress and passed each piece to a waiting maid. Daniil could not help but agree with Emilia about the use of orange for the motives to trim the gown.
Daniil could help but let out a chuckle of amusement as she watched the scene. There was no doubt that Emilia was well suited to command, like many a princess. Daniil could do it as well, but she preferred to just ask the servants outright. Sugar attracted more ants then sour grapes, or so she thought.
Daniil watched Emilia’s expression go from one of surprise to a smile and she returned Emilia’s smile, though like her cousin, the smile fell short of the smiles that she gave to those that she considered her closest allies. In fact the smile she bestowed on Emilia was one of those smiles that Daniil reserved for family. I would not be surprised to discover that every member of a royal house has smiles for many occasions and people. She thought. Daniil knew that many held the members of House Marikas at arms length because the house itself and its member’s were not not exactly trustful of the Xanthos and the were not exactly amused with the idea of then warming a throne that could be theirs. There was another reason that House Marikas commonly held at arm’s length. The house was often thought to be one that was less then happy. And they were not far off on that one no matter what face the family showed to the world.
Daniil watched Emilia cross over to her. It was then that the brunette noticed that her cousin was dressed in a light pink gown, which looked stunning on her. With another smile and a curtsy from each girl the cousin’s began their dance. As of this moment Daniil outranked her cousin. She was pretty sure that it would not last too much longer, but they knew too that only the Gods knew for sure.
“I am glad, I hope that I did not disturb anything by my visit. To be plain, my father is determined and insistent that I will become a lady. As far as Court is concerned, I think he wishes for me to make a grand impression when I finally do attend. I think he leaves it to you to decide exactly what I need to learn so that I do not fall flat on my face at the council gathering. There has been little, if any talk about what will be discussed by the menfolk.” Daniil told her.
Hearing that Emilia would help her be ready for the meeting of the Senate meeting, Daniil relaxed and let out a happy giggle. “You have my thanks Emilia and a favor in return for this aid, and thank you. You are amazing with matching colors if what I saw was any indication. That matching of colors will look very good on someone with dark hair.”
Daniil nodded at the mention that court required pomp. From what her mother, Sera, had told her being presented at court was the first step on a high-born lady’s climb up the social ladder and also was a great step towards finding a husband, that was, if the father did not already have his eye set on a possible match for his daughter. I wonder if father has someone in mind for each of his daughters? Agathe should wed before either Emilia or I. If she does not, then Agathe, could face the rumor and speculation monster or worse.
Daniil’s hazel gaze followed Emilia as she turned to look at the bolts of fabrics and then Daniil saw her cousin break into a grin before she gave a flick of her wrist and that sent the maids into a flurry of action. Daniil watched as she brought her hands in front of her and intertwined her fingers in a motion of relaxed observance, Daniil had to hold back the urge to laugh as the maids bowed to her and the pulled her arms into the air. The hazel eyed beauty glanced over at Emilia, confusion and a thousand questions appearing in her eyes. What are they doing? Help? She thought willing her cousin to hear her and understand. She watched in total amusement as Emilia moved to help a third bring a three separate bolts of fabrics back to where Daniil was left standing.
Daniil took in the shades of the fabrics in wonderment. The first that she laid eyes on was a shade of red silk that gleamed like a ruby thanks to the sun coming through the window. The second was a soft green that reminded her of the new grass that sprung up in the garden at the beginning of spring, that was a common color in Daniil’s own arsenal of clothing. The last made Daniil suck in a breath as she let out a gasp of surprise. It was gold and sparkled like it was a jewel on its own. Daniil watched as the red and the green fabrics were draped over one arm and the gold was draped over her other arm.
At Emilia’s question Daniil looked over the fabrics in thought, her gaze shifting back and forth as if she was choosing, and then she told her cousin, “I usually wear green because of my eyes. I like all three shades. The red would be an interesting change though, and the gold looks good with them both."

Emilia took her clothing seriously. Probably a little too seriously. Even at twelve, she was already dressing dolls, and had one in every color of hair, so she knew how to match color to complexion. Her first jaunt to the city for a seamstress had been when she was fourteen, and Persephone had agreed to bring her out. Emilia settled for nothing less since then, until to that point when the seamstress came in to the palace itself, something that Emilia had requested. That made her days of making dresses and jewelry a lot easier, as she had easy access to the craftswomen in question.
"What the menfolk will discuss is naught of our concern." Emilia waved that topic away, her eyes clear in expressing her disinterest. She had walked in on her father speaking with Persephone on policies of some sort before, but she had not stayed to listen. The brunette found no fun nor want to learn the ways of a Kingdom, quite unlike her elder sibling. Whil she was proud and glad of the way her sister ran the kingdom, Emilia was infinitely thankful that she had no need to inherit, and fervantly wished for her sister and father's great health when she prayed to the Gods. "However you will most definitely not fall on your face. Slippers are wonderful."
She had spoken whilst holding up other fabrics to the three main colors she had picked. When Daniil gave her own opinion on Emilia's choice, the princess bit her lip, taking a step back to consider them as she allowed Helen to hold up the golden fabric against Daniil's skin.
"Not green, then." she murmured, waving a hand at the maid who quickly took the cloth away. "If you usually wear that, we would not want to use what you commonly wore. The whole point is to make a statement." With a flick of her finger, Helen moved to where the green fabric had been initially, and now Emilia perused the gold and red carefully. "Seam the red fabric with the gold." It was clear that her instructions were for the seamstress, as one immediately stepped to Emilia's side. "And thread the neckline with gold patterns." she murmured.
The maids were quick to take the fabric off Daniil's outstretched hands, but Emilia paused them. Reaching to the back, she was handed a white sheer material. But this one was somewhat of an anomaly, for under the light it glittered as if diamonds were threaded into it. This fabric, she held up over the shoulders of Daniil, so it would lay above the red material, making it look more like silk then the simple mix of cloth it was. "A himation, I think. Make sure it is short enough so it does not mask the beauty of the red. And get a golden clasp to go with it. An owl, I should think."
Her servants were quick to her instructions, and it was in no time that Daniil was nudged and directed towards where the steamstresses immediately began surrounding the Marikas daughter, getting her measurements. Emilia merely observed the process for a brief moment, before she drifted to a chest where gems and jewels lay glittering. There, she picked out a Taengean emerald, holding it to Daniil, and then smiling. "A necklace would look good. Ensure that the dress has a lower neckline, so Lady Daniil can show her jewelry." and then, she turned to her cousin, a soft smile in question, "A necklace? Or matching earrings and bracelets? We cannot forget your slippers of course." the princess murmured, turning back to rummage and then pulling out two more smaller, rougher looking green stones, not gems but of finer quality then regular pebbles for sure. These, she held out to Daniil, for her cousin to make her choice.

Daniil watched her cousin work with an amused expression. She reminded her of Elena and Agathe so much right now. The expression did not wavier in the slightest as her cousin chastised her for being concerned for what the menfolk around her discussed. She knew by the look in her eyes that it was better to let the dog sleep then to bring it up again. Unlike her cousin, Daniil was intensely curious about what the men around her discussed because it helped her with being able to know what was going on in the world around her.
"Ahhhh I enjoy wearing sandals when I can. Slippers are kept for very special occasions." Danii told her with a smile. She watched Emilia hold up the cloth pieces to her skin as a servant she guessed it had to be Helen, held up the gold to her skin. She nodded at the lesson that she received that special clothes were not to be made of the same color that she wore as a common daily color. Special events were a place to make a statement according to her cousin.
"I have a necklace from Papa that has a red stone in it that comes to here." she said pointing to just above where her cleavage was just starting to bloom. She would have to remember to dress in the future in such a way to bring attention to her there. Seeing the stones Daniil let out a squeal of delight that was utterly girlish. "Oh those would look amazing as earnings and would likely draw attention to my eyes." she said before she blushed and added "They would compliment the gown? And what color would you have the slippers be?"

She was nothing if not dogged. Even at the young age of sixteen, Emilia was ready to take on multiple tasks at the same time, tackling them with vigor and enthusiasm. That was a trait she shared with Persephone - the only difference is where they used their dogged determination in. While Persephone was steadfastly helping their father run a Kingdom, Emilia was much happier using her determined nature in judging silks and coming up with new designs and outfits in record time. And even more when she had someone else to dress. There was only so many dresses she could make for Persephone before her sister began to cry mercy.
The young princess smiled when her cousin offered the suggestion, nodding. "Fair enough. Slippers are beautiful when matched properly. I do however, like barefeet." Emilia grinned, winking at Daniil. With a flick of her finger, a maid brought forward an ornate box, from which Emilia pulled out two strands of linked chains and beads, sparkling in the sunlight. Unlike bracelets or necklaces, there had multiple chains linking together, and Emilia easily picked one to slip on hr middle toe, before clasping the rest around her ankle. The chains draped beautifully across the top of her feet, and Emilia grinned at her cousin. "These look much more delicate, without the hassle of matching the color of the material."
Now when she walked, the chains would jangle together in a delicate manner, and the light sound filled the room as she now considered the way in which Daniil explained the necklace. To that, Emilia nodded in approval, imagining a Colchian ruby that would match quite beautifully with the red she had picked for the new chiton and peplos she had instructed to be made.
Dropping the earrings in Daniil's hands, she grinned as she pulled out another series of chains much like the one Emilia now wore around her own feet, in lieu of slippers. "It is your choice. You can wear what I wear, but I'll have to ask the smithys to make another that would match your dresses. Otherwise, I'd say black leather for your shoes. It would mute the glaring red of your dress." She paused, and then turned to Daniil to ask, "Of course, as long as your father would approve of your outfit." the princess asked, her training by her sister to always be aware of other people outside of herself and her companion kicking in. Emilia was a slow learner when it came to understanding the nuances of being a good princess, but she tried to remember all of her sister's teachings, and this was one of them.

Daniil's mind was busy even when she was not physically so. She was always watching, listening, and taking notes. She was always on the lookout for information and items that could be of benefit to her family and house. She would find no news to ferret here, unless one called being made up for the Senate a big deal. Now that it was happening, it was fun. Daniil was not exactly happy about the idea when it was presented to her. She was more comfortable in a chiton and bare feet. She was not always comfortable in the longer peplos and and sandals or whatever foot coverings was deemed appropriate. She was actually enjoying being her cousin's poppet for dressing. Now if only she, Elena, and Agathe could could do something like this among themselves.
"You too? I love bare feet. There is something comforting about feeling grass under my feet. I wish we could go to gatherings in bare feet." Daniil said happily before she gave back the wicked grin an wink. Daniil tilted her head and watched the maid bring forth a box. Her gaze slid to Emilia as she lifted out two strands of linked chains and beads. Those don't look like a necklace or a bracelet, hmmmm, what are they? Daniil wondered. She did not have to wait long to find out as she watched Emilia as she picked one of the chains and slipped it over her middle toe, before clasping the rest around her ankle. Daniil grinned back at her "Those. What are they called and where do I find them?" She suddenly began bouncing on the balls of her feet. She would have to talk to one of the menfolk to see if one of them would take her shopping for them.
Daniil was now intrigued and as she watched her cousin walk around. Her smile grew as she heard them jingle. She laughed lightly as Emilia nodded in approval. The fact that she had gained that approval made her happy. That meant that she had done something correct and that made her very happy.
Daniil's fingers closed over the earrings. Daniil was over the moon when her cousin pulled out a matching set of chains and she put them on her feet just like she had done her own. She liked the feel of them on her feet compared to wearing sandals or slippers. "These are more comfortable then slippers, and I think that if I told Father that the idea for them came from you. I do believe that he sees you and your sister as someone that I should emulate." Daniil assured her cousin.

"It is easier, at least whenever we go to the beach,at least. Sand between toes can be deuced difficult to get rid of." Emilia replied with a smile, amused at how Daniil seemed quite different. If she enjoyed being dressed up so much, then why was it her father had insisted she come to Emilia to learn how to be a Lady? Emilia found it odd, especially considering how her own sisters were greatly adept at gaining the favors of men at court, the young princess did not see what was there she could teach, when Agathe and Elena were likely more well versed in court then she was considering Emilia's young age.
Raising her brows in surprise when Daniil expressed an interest in her remade ankle baubles, a stark contrast to what she has heard of Daniil of Marikas being one to favor swordsmanship and riding. Emilia herself was a pretty well versed horsewoman, but Persephone would have anyone who handed Emilia a weapon thrown in the dungeon. It was why Emilia had a legion of guards regardless of where she went.
Yet in response, the brunette blinked, and then held up the odd contraption to the girl with a smile. "I had toe rings brought back to me from some lands far away, and I attached those to the anklets we had in the market to fashion this. I thought it would be a great thing to wear when I went barefooted, as it would act as an adornment by itself." Reaching to her feet, Emilia attached them and then straightened up to put them on Daniil's feet as well.
"If you like them, I can have some fashioned for you, so long as you tell me your favorite colors." Ever the picture of grace as much as she could so that she would not disappoint or disgrace her ailing father and sister, Emilia gave a surprised look, but a small curtsy followed. "Please, you should not emulate anyone more then yourself, Lady Daniil." Cousins they may be, the familial relations were not as comfortable as one would despite the blood relations, and as such, Emilia still was polite, if at least friendly to Daniil. She was a cousin afterall, and not as disliked as the Stravos House, which Emilia knew caused Persephone duress. So Emilia was nice as she could, as she lay a hand on Daniil's lower arm.
"To try and emulate someone else would mean to stress yourself out - for you would have to play a part the rest of your life." There was no mistake why Emilia was known as the Meraki princess not too long after her debut - something about the way the young princess smiled almost seemed contagious, for she had a genuinely kind heart, if a little vapid at times when it came to war and strategy. She had no head for extensive plans, but Emilia was nothing if not kind hearted. "Do what you would like, so long as it does not cause the family great harm.... I do not see why not?"

Daniil nodded. "I can see why you would say that. They are very comfortable so I will have to see about getting these made for my own wardrobe. Who knows maybe Agathe and Elena would like them too!" she said with a grin. The other advantage would be that the jingling would allow the menfolk to know when we were approaching. It would allow them to hold their tongues if they were discussing anything that they did not deem appropriate for us to hear. she thought silently. Cousin, you have no idea how much help that you have been with this visit. she added silently.
Daniil raised her own a brow at her cousin's expression after she expressed interest in the new footwear. I think I have confused her with actually liking something girly. I can still wield a sword and ride a horse as well as like new things even if they were girly things. Its not like I have grown two heads or a tail! she thought in amusement. Yes, Daniil usually had Balius with her as a bodyguard if she went outside the walls of the family home, but there were also times where it was not beyond her to carry a weapon on her. She hid it in such a way that it was hard to tell that she even had one on her. The only time that she was unarmed was when she was attending major events, like the upcoming Senate meeting.
"The only drawback I see is if one wears these on those really super hot days. One could burn their feet." Daniil said with a small laugh. "Not that I would be out of doors during the hottest time of the day." she added. "These are a lot more comfortable then wearing slippers or sandals."
Daniil nodded enthusiastically. "Please? Favorite colors are green and blue. I will have more pairs made to go with my other gowns, especially this new one and the one I had made that is a pale yellow-gold in color." she told Emilia. "why? Emulating you only shows that I admire you, which I do, Highness." she added. Two can play at the whole formality game, cousin. Shows that you would rather keep me at arms length. Not that I would not do the same. Unless you hold my skills with a sword and horse against me. she thought, but she was careful to control her expression. The brunette gave her cousin a genuine smile as she laid a hand on her lower arm.
Daniil nodded as she took her cousin's advice to heart. "So I should make my own style then." she said with a nod. "I like that idea!" she added with a chuckle.

In return, Emilia laughed. Daniil was not wrong - in summer months when she ventured outside, Emilia was unlikely to do so barefooted. A mix of the heat and the danger of sharp stones meant her father had expressly said before that Emilia was to not venture outdoors barefooted. And not willing to cause her father distress in his state of health, the young princess had dutifully followed his instructions until it had now become her habit. The usage of her ankle decorations and rings were mostly for beach affairs or for dinners and balls held indoors. "It is true. I usually prefer them indoors, or when we're at the beach. They're a lot easier to get sand out of." she murmured in reply.
Noting her cousin's favorite colors, Emilia was quick to summon a maid, asking her to get an order of Taengean water emeralds and Athenian sapphire's from the market jeweler, before bringing it back to her by the next day. She would craft it herself, after her daily visit to the temple of the Gods. "I'll have it sent over before the week is over, Daniil. You can use what I've made as a sample for your smithy or jeweler to make." Emilia offered.
A polite nod of her head came at Daniil's expressed reply. In a way, Emilia knew she was born and is still at a place and stage where people admired her. In truth, the young brunette had never been entirely sure what to do with the admiration or expressed interest, but she was learning. The girl gave an uncertain smile, her gaze averted to the box of knick knacks she used to craft accessories. "It really depends, my lady. Emulation is a form of admiration, I suppose. But no two people can be exactly alike, so I do not see where emulation would bring someone. Everyone is their own individual afterall." she murmured. "So yes, you should try and make your own style."
As if just on time, a knock on her door led to her head maid walking in, announcing that the noon meal would be served soon for the two ladies in the dining room. Nodding to dismiss the servants, Emilia straightened up and motioned at Daniil. "I've instructed the servants to prepare the best of the seafood that had been delivered from Arcanes. Shall we?" Last she remembered, the letter from her uncle had said that her cousin would be remaining for a day or so, and while Emilia did not intend to spend the whole time on wardrobe, it would seem that at least the girl was not as her father had made her seem. What happened beyond the day remained to be seen, but for now, Emilia was glad to help.

"I learned the hard way about bare feet and the heat. Mother was beside herself and Father was furious." she told her cousin with a laugh. "So Father insists I am only allowed to go with bare feet in our gardens, otherwise its sandals." she said nodding knowingly. She wisely left out the mention that she often trained in baefeet unless Bailius thought it was needful that she train in sandals to help her understand and know how to handle different terrains. "I miss the beach." Daniil said wistfully and with a sigh.
Daniil listened intently as Emilia gave orders, noting silently just how at ease she appeared to take charge and dispense her wishes. And she took notes. "I would be in your debt cousin." Daniil said with a smile. "I will have them returned when I am finished then?" she phrased it in a question rather than a statement because she was at a loss about weather they were a gift or not, and she was not going to assume anything.
Ah! So cousin, you are not at ease with being admired or the center of attention. At least in that way you differ from my sisters. We like the attention like a bee likes a flower. she thought as she noticed Emilia's lack of comfort with the topic of being admired. With her words, though, Daniil knew that Emilia was correct to a point, so she nodded in agreement. Daniil was much more relaxed then she normally seemed and she was actually having fun. She was planning on her visit staying relaxed and having fun.
