'It was damn good. Ya got me to make a weird sound' - Mere
Whoopsie doops, I missed a week! Hey everyone! Welcome back to the Aeipathy broadcast! We have a few new acceptances this week so if you're a newcomer that doesn't know what this thing is about the long and short of it is that I, as your mostly fearless leader like to create a run down of the site as it is at the moment and what is happening with it. This is released every Monday (save for last Monday because I was poop) and gives everyone the latest on new acceptances, news and updates, the new weekly challenge, members of the moment, new events and a new section that we've put in this week which is all about potential 'in's' for events. We do Africa one week and Greece the next! So, if you don't see the Event you were hoping to this week, then tune in next time and you will!
Just want to take this opportunity to say a big thanks to those who have been patient with me the last week or so. For those that don't know, I completed my first ghost-written novel at the end of last week and because it was a brand new experience for me I did all the classic mistakes of procrastination and giving myself a big mountain to climb right before my deadline, so I had to disappear for a hot minute just to get that sorted. You'll be pleased (I hope) to know that I have another job already underway and I've already written 15% of it (according to my NaNo tracker) in the last two days. And yet I've still been here and hanging with you guys all that time ^_^ - this is my new set up/organisation/plan and will hopefully lead to more good things that don't cause me to disappear on you when it gets close to deadline.
With that reassurance, let me just say how super excited I am to see so many new characters up on the site now that I've worked through all of the submitted apps! I have reviewed or accepted everything that I had in my inbox so please, if you are still waiting on an app to be reviewed or checked or confirmed, then please do message me - I have clearly missed you/forgotten you. You have my undying apologies but please can you poke me in DMs on Discord because I honestly don't know I've missed you. I *think* I am 100% up to date on apps. Next will be member points. So, if you're sitting there thinking - ohmygosh, I'm missing loads of member points from my account because of challenges etc, please don't fret, I will be getting stuck into these as my next task of getting up to date, in between posting!
Which is going to be a whole lot of fun to catch up on now that we have so many new characters to play with! I'm feeling a little spoilt for choice/lost at sea with all these new faces but hopefully I will get the chance to rp with each and every one of you! Looking forward to having fun together! Hope you all have an amazing week and talk sooon!
New Additions Below are a list of all of our newest members to the server. Our staff team ask that, when you see them online, give them a shout out and say 'hi, how are you?' You can use our #general-chat or our #quiet-room - entirely depending on how busy our main channel is - but we highly recommend touching base and saying hello - they might be interested in making a character you're seeking for your own plots after all...
Grimscythe
We've also had new characters added to our accepted roster! Remember! The first member to start a thread with each of our newly accepted characters from new members get to collect Points! Give these characters a shout out in their relevant kingdom channel to get the plotting chat going! Just remember to give their profiles a read so that you can approach their writer with some fun ideas!
News and Updates
New Challenge: Match-Maker, Match-Maker With so many new characters this week, here is your challenge (should you choose to accept it). Create three match makes in our match-maker channel! There are only two rules. One of the people you are matching in each pair needs to be one of the new characters listed above. And you cannot match them with any character played by one of our Staffers (JD, Berry, Kitsie, Bandit or Asteria). You can match them with anyone else's character you like (just not your own). If you're unsure of how to set up a match-make, check out the games channel dedicated to it and look at how it works. You need to be able to tag both of the members, create a vague scenario of how the characters could meet and why they might be good together and then link to their profiles. If you need to find links to profiles you can use this page here. It's not pretty but it does the job until our Compendium is complete. Once you've made three match-makes, you can post in the #member-challenge channel to confirm that you've done it and claim your point for this week. Have fun y'all!
New God!: Egyptian Just to confirm for you all, our new Egyptian God has been chosen. They will be writing up a storm in the divine realm of the Kemetics until we have the required stats to have the God announced. We require five new players to have active characters on the site and we already are well on our way! So, if you have friends that you were thinking of bringing to Aeipathy, now would be a really good time... ^_^ The longer we wait for the announcement, the more posts that God is building... let's hope they're a nice one who isn't gonna throw out curses the second they're in business... >.>
Aeipathy Olympics: Winners Podium! The Aeipathy Olympics have now been closed! The winners have been announced in this thread here and all points and awards have been given. Congratulations to our participants - we love it when our community dives in to make an event special for so many others in our community! Thank you to all who were a part of it and made it special. See you next year at the 2021 Olympics!
New Patron: Pam Our lovely mentor Pam has become our latest Patron on our Patreon page! If you would like to help contribute to Aeipathy and ensure that we can continue to be content-open and have loads of lovely new features then please join our community and become one of our sponsors - we'd love to have you. Many thanks to the lovely Pam for her contribution to the cause!
Pinterest Challenge! Our monthly Pinterest challenge is up and running and it's an awesome one! Come join us in filling up our Greek and Egyptian Gods pages on Pinterest! All of the instructions are below, in the words of our Pinterest Mod Urit! Hey, everyone! Its that time of month again, and this time I have another relaxed challenge for you all. This month, we are going to pay homage to the gods of Aeipathy. Picking either the Greecian or Egyptian gods (the ones that are playable on Aeipathy. Really, go look at our Dieties and Religions Encyclopedia page!), pin your gods and goddesses pins to our brand new 'Aeipathy Gods' Pinterest board! You must pin at least 40 pins collectively to these new boards to earn your two points. However, if you pin at least 80, you will earn 5 member challenge points! How cool is that? Good luck and have fun and keep our gods happy. If you don't know how to partake in the event, just DM Urit on Discord! <3
New Broadcast Section Ladies and gents, as you'll see below, we have a new section in our broadcast! We've taken our Event updates section and given it a few tweaks and a polish to make it easier to absorb at a quick glance. Instead of telling you what is happening in a thread, we're giving you ideas and opportunities for what to do to get your character *into* the thread. Hopefully this will help everyone in working into larger group threads that could then spark off into other personal plotlines! Hope this helps y'all! <3
Awards and Recognition
Member of the Moment: Synaesthesia Those who have ever had to make allowances for character changes or take on plots already in existence will know the challenge of sparking ideas and muse over something that has not gone quite how you might have expected. It's never a humongous disaster and it's always scaleable but sometimes you just need that additional mental fortitude to pull your socks up, accept how things are and go - okay, how we can make this fun? And Syn has done this with aplomb and awesome enthusiasm the last few weeks. Here's to you Syn and your amazing efforts in the Athenian plots and Theodora's claiming. We take our hat off to you and your determination to always look on the bright side of life. (And you're welcome for getting that song stuck in your head).
Hey everyone! I'd just like to take a little moment to thank all of those people who are keeping up with their posting. I know that things are tough for a lot of people at the moment but the members who are continued to post nonetheless and get content out through thick and thin are the ones that are giving everyone else the excitement and interest and enjoyment to keep writing their stuff too! So, kudos and congrats to all those who are making that effort and digging deep.
To all those who are struggling and who are losing interest or muse or finding things difficult, we implore you all to be super careful about your communication with the community...
This is a difficult time in all of our lives. Whether we are being affected directly or indirectly by this Covid stuff and everything else that has launched onto the world, we need to all bare in mind that everyone - whether they appear joyful or easy-going or active in the community - is struggling. In some way, shape or form. Even if it's just having their stress levels raised a little more than normal every time they turn on their news apps or the TV. As such, please keep this mentality in mind when you speak with others on the discord server. Here are a couple of hints on how to go about things:
1. Don't push the joke too far. Sometimes when people are feeling low or feeling alone they over compensate. We all know that jokester at the party, cracking laughs at others and being the centre of attention. And we all know that they're probably doing that because they are feeling uncomfortable or insecure (consciously or subconsciously). We're all feeling that little bit insecure at the moment which means that some people are taking their jokes (at members, people, countries or characters) a little too far. By all means, have a laugh. That's what we're here for. We all want to be able to kick back and let loose and have a chill out time. But lets reel back a little on the jokes that are harsher. The ones that make us all want to shout 'Burn!' The ones that have use biting our lower lips and giggling to ourselves. When we're all in good moods and lighter in our personal lives, we'll all enjoy those jokes and have a laugh together. But at the moment, when we're all feeling just a little bit raw, these are probably good jokes to steer clear of, or at least dial back on when it comes to members you are less familiar with.
2. Communicate when things aren't going right. We all know that we get busy. It's part of life. We all get caught up in our muse for different things or we are keeping track of our threads manually and something drops off the list by accident. It's entirely understandable. It's even more understandable when we all have other things going on in our lives and other stressors rising to the top. So, what can we do? We can communicate. Fake Tag people when a thread has been waiting on their reply for over two weeks. DM them if the fake tag hasn't been replied to. If you've fake tagged them more than three times (ergo, the thread has been waiting for more than six weeks) then contact a member of staff. Please be aware - our staff team will not step in if you haven't communicated with this person in a fair and polite way of reminding them. Staff member intervention normally makes people defensive or worried, it puts added stress upon them, no matter how nice we are. As such, we only like doing this if it's a necessity. And if you've not Fake Tagged people and you haven't communicated with them, there is no necessity for staff intervention. It's not rude or unfair to speak to a member and ask them if they are still interested in a thread or fake tag them if you've been waiting more than two weeks. We all need a reminder or a poke occasionally and it's not hurtful to get one. What is upsetting, is having a staff member suddenly approach you about something you didn't know was an issue in the first place. On the flip side of this... if you're a member who is holding up a thread and is struggling to make a reply, speak with your partner. I am confident that I could place hand on heart and speak for others in this community by saying that most roleplayers would prefer to be told - 'hey, this post of yours has got me a little turned around, I'm not sure where to go with it' than they would wait for weeks on end, wondering what happened. With us all stressed out and feeling emotional, an ignored thread can feel like a personal insult - even if it isn't meant to be. So, let's keep those lines of communication open, friendly and honest. So long as you keep Benefit of the Doubt and don't make accusations, communication is the key. So, instead of - 'Hey, why haven't you replied to this thread yet?' (thereby implying that THEY know about the thread, THEY haven't forgotten about it and THEY are choosing to actively ignore it, despite you doing nothing to cause or deserve it) - how about - "Hey there, noticed you haven't replied to X thread yet. Is there anything the matter? Was my post clear? Do you need me to make any edits? Just checking in because I'm super stoked for this thread and I didn't want it to go by the wayside. Let me know if there's anything I can do.' (which implies that the fault might have accidentally lain with you, that they might have reasons you don't know about for not replying and shows your eagerness to help and write with them). How we say things is super important, but so is the fact that we actually need to *say* something.
3. Try to be positive. It's easy to get caught up in the stressors at the moment. And it's totally understandable to feel alone or isolated if you are being kept on quarantine or not allowed into work. If you live alone or don't have children/family with you at all times, it can feel very depressing to be so out of touch. At Aeipathy, we definitely understand that this can drain your energies and make you seek the comfort of others. And we are here to help with that. But, a word of caution when you reach out. Please remember that everyone is struggling with something at the moment. It might be big, it might be small, it might be something you had never even considered. Everyone is dealing with Covid in their own ways, not to mention everything else that is happening in the world right now or just general difficulties that would be there Covid or no Covid. We are all sensitive and we all feel raw. Just because someone is bouncy and excited and happy on the server, does not necessarily mean that they are doing better than you. They just hide it better. And if you need someone to talk to or you need some advice then the community of Aeipathy are 100% behind you. But if you are looking for little more than sympathy (a totally natural instinct when feeling down) we ask that you be considerate of others. Aeipathy is a place of fun and energy and is being used as a form of escapism for many people. If you need a solution, we can help. If you just want to rant then normally we would totally be up for that. But in these times of difficulty, we ask that you hold back. Everyone in the community is trying to remain positive. And negativity without a proactive answer is no help to anyone. In situations like this, the staff team would like to recommend the 'fake it til you make it' approach. We know that some might read this as an instruction to 'brush it under the rug' or 'ignore your feelings' but this is not what we mean by this. What we mean, is engage in an act of self-healing. The human mind is an amazing thing. It forms habits, it builds patterns, it structures designs and learns through repetition. Our bodies know when to harbour food because we aren't eating, or when to sleep based on our patterns of neuro-chemicals. It is an amazing things that adapts and creates based on what we need. But sometimes, it needs a little push. Positive affirmations, yoga practices, mental challenges and practice... they all work in their own ways because we encourage the brain to work in a healthy manner. Trying to focus on the silver-linings or the bright side of things does not mean ignoring negative feelings, it does not mean that sadness and struggle are not valid emotions. But working to be positive as much as possible - especially around other people - is not a mask for your true emotions, but an active effort to redirect patterns and pathways in the mind towards a more positive angle. It is an act of self-love and self-healing to try and build more positive, happy and healthy mindsets for yourself. Regardless of what others think of your behaviour/communication. Plus, you're putting a bit more positivity out there - and that's not a bad thing right? If you're struggling with how to present a positive front on the server, please come to our Community Heads. We'll be more than happy to work with you on keeping a lighter tone in your writing and ensuring that you can get started on your 'fake it til you make it' path. ^_^
4. Remember changing timeframes. One issue with communications that our staff have noticed over the last few weeks is a mismatch on expectations and timeframes between members. We'd like to offer a shout out to the community to remind people that everyone's timeframes are now shifting. Some people are still in lockdown, some are now job seeking, some are going back to 9-5 jobs. People are generally becoming busier. And some people are forgetting this <3 If you post a message or thread or DM or something to another members, please bear in mind the time it takes to reply. Some people are messaging and then, because they are online all day in lockdown, feel like a long time has passed and pester. We need to make sure we're readjusting our expectations here, remembering that that member might have been asleep or at work etc. and doesn't need to the prompt <3 This goes double for our staff team, who have been getting lots of requests from people with an expectation of a speedier turn around than is normal. Please make sure you're considering the new schedules and timetables of other members in your messages <3
I'm sure there are many pointers and ideas that others will have on how to cope with the stressors of these times but these are the clearest points of concern that our staff team have noticed in recent weeks. In short, the basic advice we have is, imagine how you feel at the end of a really hard day - tired, grouchy and irritable. Now assume that everyone on the server is feeling the same way and adjust your communication accordingly. How would you like someone to speak to you after that long day? Would you want those slightly harsher jokes, would you want someone else talking publicly about how hard everything is at the moment? Are you going to want to be nagged for answers to things? Consider yourself in the shoes of others, throw in Benefit of the Doubt and think that perhaps that person might not be in the right headspace of those kinds of conversations. In a normal situation, all of the above would be acceptable ways to work. We're all in a better mindset, we all have more patience and we all see things on the brighter side. It's only in these more trying times that we need to perhaps have a rethink, take a step back and draw on those deep dark reserves of empathy to try and think of others as much as we can.
As usual, these bunny slipper moments are said with good intention and with the hopes of creating a more positive and fun experience on Aeipathy. If you have any questions or need any help with anything, please don't hesitate to come to our staff team. <3
Story Progression
Events and Provincial Stories
Our Events and Stories are large, mass threads where everyone who has a viable character for that moment or setting can partake. They are often revolving around key players in our current global plots but they also create great opportunities for characters to meet and greet rather than our site becoming cluttered with 'first encounter' threads. Our Events are voluntary, but we recommend that all members keep at least a cursory eye on what is happening in each on-going Event within any kingdom their character(s) are a part of. This way, you're always up-to-date on the latest drama in your character's homeland.
Check our the updates below for each of our current Events, provided by our Kingdom Managers. All of these Events and Provincial Stories are open so have your character dive in to any and all!
Greece
Information on Grecian Events and Provincial Stories will be in next week's broadcast!

Perhaps your character has started to feel ill and is rushing to a healer tent, even if it's for one with their own Gesin? Are you an enforcer determined to follow the Leier's commands, or a rebel that thinks is plan is a death sentence to you all? Perhaps you are a messenger for another tribe, seeking help? Those who are not Jewish may find it difficult to attend but they just need to hide their face and they may be good to go! The Way Is Shut Date: Thanii, 672 BC Location: Israel, Judea Attendance: All Welcome! Way In?: The Greeks are being ceremoniously booted out in their own absence. White Lands, Red Hands Date: Kanun, 682 BC Location: Israel, Judea Attendance: All Welcome! Way In?: The Greeks are moving in. If you're an attendee of The Way Is Shut? have your opinions changes from when the Greeks arrived to when they are leaving? Even if you aren't one of the men remaining in Israel, you could still be there for duty purposes? Perhaps you are a Judean merchant looking to make money, selling homeware goods to the men who are now moving in to empty residences? Predator Date: Adar, 673 BC Location: Ammun, Judea Attendance: All Welcome! Way In?: A tiger is trying to break loose and all chaos has reigned! Are you one of the merchants that cannot leave their stalls for risk of thievery? Are you one of the customers that can run from the big jungle cat? Perhaps your character is someone who will take advantage of the chaos, trick the gullible or open their tavern doors with a special price for those that seek shelter?
New Events
Golden Afternoon Provincial Story - Judea
Moab is a city of great diversity and perhaps the least resistant of the Judean cities for foreigners and travellers. To them, those from other districts, kingdoms and realms are the chance for more trade. And the Moab like money. Here, in the early part of summer, they open their shores even wider than normal and welcome those from all coastlines of the Dead Sea. From the Judeans in the north and east, to the Egyptians in the west. Even a few Bedoans might find their way to Moab, when the summer sun starts to lengthen days to their fullest. On this particular day - the first trading day of the month of Nisan - the waters of Moab are filled with so many trading boats that one can walk from the 'Island' and central city, across the Dead Sea to the Mereth Isle, without the need to dip a toe in the waters. Men, women, slaves and families walk the planks between each vessel and inspect the goods for sail from all over the eastern provinces; enjoying the floating market place and all it has to offer.
Bedoa
Heated Flesh Date: Awwal, 672 BC Location: Port of the West, Bedoa Attendance: Any and all Bedoans. Any and all travellers. This takes place at a port, so if your character happens to be journeying around Bedoa at this point in time, you can be a part of the fun too! Way In?: In this event, the Gesins of Bedoa are struggling with a feverish disease. Perhaps your character has started to feel ill and is rushing to a healer tent, even if it's for one with their own Gesin? Perhaps your character has found a fallen victim, passed out with his illness, trying to do the same and your character can help them get the rest of the way? Perhaps your character knows of a plant rumoured to help with fever and delirium. Perhaps they heard someone whispering at the docks about poisoned water holes? Is this just an accident or pandemic? Or is there more to be investigated here? Perhaps your character is devout, is seeing this illness as a curse from the ancestors or the Gods. Perhaps they call a group prayer and tribute or sacrifice to try and lift the curse?

Or an executioner that knows something about their innocence that he should not? Are these boys even guilty? Or are they guilty of more than they were caught for? Does the crime meet the punishment or is it too harsh? What will happen with the boy's hands if the punishment is meted out? A thief's hand can be dried and sold for high value after all...
Surf and Turf Date: Haziran, 675 BC Location: Port of the West, Bedoa Attendance: Zaire and Buuchu Tribes. Set in the port of the west, any travellers who are visiting Bedoa at this time can also join in! Way In?: Territory issues between the Bedoan. Pure Survival Date: Abutt, 676 BC Location: Southern Lands, Bedoa Attendance: Zaire Tribe. Way In?: If you're a part of the Zaire tribe, you are low on water. Is your character the kind that would hold what little reserve you had in secret? Do you have a sickly relative that you think might need it more than others? Or are you one of the warriors ready to be sent out in search of the next water hole? Are you an enforcer determined to follow the Leier's commands, or a rebel that thinks is plan is a death sentence to you all? Perhaps you are a messenger for another tribe, seeking help? Perhaps you are the one to witness an NPC messenger from a Gesin more parched than your own?

Are you an Egyptian citizen that could find an unconscious Greek on the sands? Perhaps your character has a ship in Egyptian waters that is at risk of being lit on fire? The Might of the Gods Date: Thanii, 672 BC Location: Temple of Osiris, Egypt Attendance: All Welcome! Way In?: The temple just got lit on fire! Everyone run for it! Are you a character that pushes others out of the way to save your own skin? Do you stand by the temple's statues believing that your Gods will save you? Are you a guardsman at the temple, or is your character someone that knows and loves a priestess that could be trapped inside? Are you the one that is going to be stuck and trapped, their life at risk? Were you just coming to offer your best wishes to the Gods and are stuck in all the chaos? Perhaps you think the Gods have cursed the efforts of the Pharaoh in the war to the north? Or, did you spot the culprit of this despicable act?!
Feminine Wiles Date: Thanii, 672 BC Location: Ghani District, Egypt Attendance: Female Nobility. Way In?: The ladies of the upper classes of Cairo have congregated but they aren't the only ones who could be here. Perhaps your character is spying on the gossiping women? Perhaps yours is a servant working in the tavern that hosts this party upon its rooftop. Maybe you're a petulant troublemaker throwing rocks up onto the roof? Is one of the ladies of this get together going to struggle with alcohol or get food poisoning? Will others take this as an omen or an act of sabotage? How about food ladies? Anyone wanting to eat and be judged for their choices? Perhaps some secrets or rumours are exposed and everyone involved is scandalised?! Remember, whilst it makes enemies to be a bitch, when you're attached to wealth and power, it's hard to actually be punished for such acts of dickishness XD

Way In?: Are you a guest to view the show? Are you a performer? Is your character someone that just trod on the foot of an acrobat? Or drank the water from the water glasses performer? Is there a fight happening between NPCs and you go to break it up and crash into a display? Is your character someone totally in love with an NPC performer who won't look twice at you? Have you spotted someone pick-pocketting the crowd and are about to make a ruckus? Did you get dared to attend the event by a friend because the idea of heights makes you sick and watching the acrobats is going to make you vom? The Child-Like Empress Date: Subat, 682 BC Location: Grand Temple, Egypt. Attendance: All Welcome! Way In?: The Queen is being crowned! Bring Me That Horizon Date: Tammuz, 673 BC Location: Southern Nile, Egypt. Attendance: All Welcome! Way In?: It's new year in Egypt and the Egyptians are celebrating in full hedonistic style. Are you a whore raking in the money tonight, or one getting into trouble with a knife-wielding pervert? Are you a noble that is making mistakes they might regret next week when trade agreements fall through? Or are you there to spy the Queen in all her glory? See How They Shine Date: Tammuz, 672 BC Location: Saraaya H'Sheifa, Egypt. Attendance: All Egyptian Nobility and Guests/Servants. Or perhaps you're a foreigner who is there on a simple delivery, gets mistaken for one of the thieves and chased out of the Saraaya? Are you an official ready to investigate the robbery? Or has an NPC fainted on your character and pinned them to the floor?
Judea

Those who are not Jewish may find it difficult to attend but they just need to hide their face and they may be good to go! Way In?: The people of Jerusalem have chanted their prayers and made their wishes. Now it's time for drink and food and merriment. Perhaps you're a performer ready to tell tales from the holy book. Perhaps you are a member of the faithful that go into the Holy Temple. Or is your character a foreigner that has had their origins discovered and is causing a ruckus? Has food been served to you under-prepared - a sacrilege on such a holy day! Where are the guards?
The Way Is Shut Date: Thanii, 672 BC Location: Israel, Judea Attendance: All Welcome! Way In?: The Greeks are being ceremoniously booted out in their own absence. Are your a Judean helping to cart their belongings to the street? Are you a Grecian servant trying to keep their master's belongings from Hebrew hands? Are you for or against the Greeks being kicked out of Israel? Are you a woodworker helping reinforce the gates. Perhaps you are a simple traveller, confused by all that is happening and warning all those who will listen that there are dark days ahead if the Greeks are angered.
Do you welcome these men with armour into your home as your defenders against Egypt? Or are you a Greek soldier who is attending to the city to help his brothers move in? Even if you aren't one of the men remaining in Israel, you could still be there for duty purposes? Perhaps you are a Judean merchant looking to make money, selling homeware goods to the men who are now moving in to empty residences? Regardless of what you normally sell or do, soldiers might be willing to flick a coin to the young ones willing to cart their chests and boxes.

If you're an attendee of The Way Is Shut? have your opinions changes from when the Greeks arrived to when they are leaving? Even if you aren't one of the men remaining in Israel, you could still be there for duty purposes? Perhaps you are a Judean merchant looking to make money, selling homeware goods to the men who are now moving in to empty residences? Are you one of the merchants that cannot leave their stalls for risk of thievery? Are you one of the customers that can run from the big jungle cat? Perhaps your character is someone who will take advantage of the chaos, trick the gullible or open their tavern doors with a special price for those that seek shelter?
