What had supposed to be a regular start the day had taken a catastrophic turn when Evras's plans to visit the temples had been waylaid all because her curious mind had made her follow a handful of soldiers, only for her to be gifted with the metallic tang of blood at the back of her throat which had triggered her gag reflex, followed by an inability to stand up straight unless someone else supported her. Evras liked to believe herself made of stronger stuff, and had seen far worst in her trials and tribulations of a Thanasi marrying the second son to a enemy family, to think that a pool of blood would turn her off. But it seemed the child she carried had other ideas.
It was late noon before Evras finally felt less green and more herself again, that she could finally stomach the food her servants had brought her, and then the medicinal concoction the physician had her drinking everyday to strengthen her womb to carry the child. Evras had carried Dion without an issue to full term, but as her age caught up with her, it would seem even the physician saw it beneficial for her to receive herbal support.
Once she found herself steady on her feet, Evras had paid her sister a visit to check on Thea, wondering if the sister had heard the news of the body discovered. Whispers of the servants had affirmed what Evras had suspected, the body to be of the servant personally to serve Zanon and his injury. While Evras hadn't been entirely happy with the female servant, having met Ariah of Leiale a few times, the princess had deemed the foreign born woman to be of no harm, and had merely flicked the thought of her out her mind.
With her death within Kotas grounds however, it brought a deeply unsettling feeling within her that only the company of her sister could banish.
While she would've dearly loved to share the evening meal with Thea however, Evras found herself growing weary far quicker then she'd have imagined. So instead, the dark-haired princess gave her apologies, and it was sundown when she found herself back in bed, apologetically skipping the last meal of the day with the family and instead opting for the meal to be brought to her. It was the Queen's orders that Evras remain in bed as much as she wanted afterall, and going to the extent of having Athanasia takeover pretty much all of Evras's tasks as she grew the child within her, the young Thanasi-born faced no issue in the request, and it didn't take long for a tray of the evening's far to be brought to her.
The sight of food made her stomach growl for the first time in awhile, the kind of hunger she had almost forgotten existed during her first trimester. As she entered her final month of the fourth, almost fifth now if Evras had her calculations correct, she was beginning to feel at least normal again even if her stamina was nowhere near the usual. Digging in with gusto to the lamb stew and grilled vegetables served to her, her dark hair fell around her shoulders as she ate, barely hearing should anyone enter.

Zanon's mind was still racing, the number of twists and turns the day had taken and the mourning of Ariah was all so overwhelming he could only keep going, if he stopped the paranoia and fear would take over. Once his leg ached too much for him to continue pacing the halls and searching for answers, he left Magnus to his tasks and retired instead. On his way back to his chambers he hesitated, turning towards Evras' room to see how she was and to seek out any comfort that she had given him. It was strange, the situation he'd found himself in. Ariah had kissed him once, and he had returned it, but the time had been wrong and his thoughts had flown immediately to his wife.
He'd made her a promise all those months ago when they had fought last. He'd sworn that he would keep himself for her and no one else, and especially after everything that had happened with his father's apparent death, return, and Vangelis' final blow, he needed her. The guards before her door were a promising relief, and he gave them a nod as he entered, the serving girl giving him a curtsy before slipping into the hall.
Watching his wife for a moment, Zanon gave a soft sigh of relief to see her seemingly well and eating. His approach was not as soft, the thud of his cane that had become more and more necessary even with the slave girl's efforts at reparations giving him away. Setting it aside, he brushed his hands along Evras' shoulders and pressed a kiss to the top of her head, holding her gently in silence for a long moment before shifting to sit beside her. Brushing a hand along her hair so he could better see her face, the second prince gave a weary smile and laid his forehead against her shoulder.
"I'm so sorry you had to see that. Are you well enough now?"
Another kiss was pressed to her shoulder before he sat himself back, the servant slipping back in with a pitcher of wine and a glass for him before once again vanishing. Filling his own he took a deep drink before setting it back onto the table and staring into it for a moment, taking a few deep breaths.
"I can't believe that she killed herself. Someone was trying to get to her, to me. To send a message." It was a terrifying prospect. After the attempted murder of his father and brother, that someone was now turning their eye to him was not such a surprise, but he had hoped that it would not get so close to this so soon. "I want you to have a taster, and a guard with you at all times. Until we know who is trying to harm us there is no way to know who to trust. And for Thea...I know you wish to see her but until we know who is behind this, I beg you to keep away."

And for Thea...I know you wish to see her but until we know who is behind this, I beg you to keep away."
It was midway through her stew when she finally felt a pair of eyes upon her, just catching a glimpse of Zanon before he brushed his hands along her shoulders. Quickly swallowing her mouthful of food, Evras smiled gently up when she saw the weary look her husband wore, fully aware of the many tasks that had fallen upon his shoulders in the absence of both his eldest brother and father. Nodding to his query, she motioned at the food she had half eaten, a crust of bed offered to him even as he indulged in the wine the servant girl had just brought in. "The child is hungry, so it seem's she's unaffected." she mused with a smile, laying a soft hand on the stomach concealed beneath the tray of food, before her eyes turned curious. "Have you eaten?" she asked in gentle concern.
Listening intently, food forgotten now as Zanon finally gave her the details of what had happened, it was only then that Evras learned of the dead servant's girls apparent death and the cause behind it, or what they knew of it so far. So the assumption was that she had killed herself? Curious, but in the line of events that had happened of late, not too surprising.
Evras knew of the servant girl of course, but not with much detail. She knew Zanon had recently hired a girl to tend to his injuries, and while she was curious as to where she had appeared from, having met the foreign slave girl once, Evras had had no reason to disbelieve her reason for being there.
Reaching out to comfort her husband's overprotectiveness as it reared its ugly head, she nodded as she gave the hand a squeeze. "I already have a guard with me at all times, remember?" Evras teased. The instruction had came from himself when Thea had first been discovered to be pregnant with Vangelis's child, and Zanon feared for Dion's wellbeing. Keeping away from her sister however, did cause a glimmer of disappointment in her eyes. "Not even with a guard in the room?" the dark-haired one tried her luck, giving a wary smile at her husband, although she doubted he'd give in. If anything, she knew how paranoid her husband could be when it came to the safety of his own family.
"I'll double the guards on Dion." she reassured, making a mental note to ask Athanasia to help her when the princess came visiting. Offering a bite of a stew-dipped bread to Zanon's lips, she waited a moment before asking, "Will the servant's absence be missed, Zan?" she asked, merely wishing to know if he had a need for her services. Evras had been given no reason to suspect anything, after all, so her query had been a purely innocent one to find out if she'd need to seek a replacement for whatever services it was the now-dead servant rendered to Zanon.
Of course, if her husband takes it the other way, that was for her to find out.
