Yes you read that right guys! And Aeipathy convention is going ahead! I teased this in the last weekly broadcast and have a little more information on the subject! The below is a little thin on the ground at the moment but as information becomes properly confirmed you guys will be the first to know! I want to keep you guys all up to date as the progress continues for this very exciting event!!
So, here's the skinny so far!
What is AeiCon 2021?
Aeipathy Con (or AeiCon for short) is going to be an Online Writing Convention, hosted by us, the Aeipathy community. It will be advertised outside of our own forum, across resource sites and other communities. It's main purpose will be a universal writing convention but it will also hold several Aeipathy specific events across the weekend for our lovely home-grown veterans. The event will be hosted as an independent product to Aeipathy as an rp forum, but with the hopes of bringing new members, new writers and eager creative minds to our community after the event has finished. The event itself will include: panels, interactive activities, game nights, movie groups, book discussions, special guests and competitions with real prizes!
What We Know So Far
Private Server
Aeipathy Con will be held on a private Discord Server, separate from our Communal Server. Access to this server will be given shortly before the event (likely between a few days to a week before the event itself so that everyone has access and is 'in' before features start). Those who are helping to run the event will gain access sooner to help build the platform that we'll be using. Panels, activities and events will be held in different channels and will likely range from video presentations to voice calls to general chat channels.
Paid Tickets
Aeipathy Con will not be free. But it also will not be expensive. Tickets will start from $3 a pop. With this $3 ticket Aeipathy members will also receive, alongside their own ticket, and a Newcomer Pass. This Newcomer Pass is a free ticket that can be used by anyone who is not already a member of the Aeipathy server. Ergo, you can bring a plus one from outside the Aeipathy community once your ticket has been purchased. We'll also be offering special discounts or bonus features to those who contribute a little more on the ticket cost, with tiers of different tickets and options. More information on how to get a ticket, and what kinds of features your pass will give you access to, will be released closer to the time.
Confirmed Date
Whilst our last broadcast recommended that everyone keep a particular weekend in September available, I'm sorry to say that you will not need to mark this out on your calendar anymore. Aeipathy Con will not be being hosted in September. However, I have an awesome reason why!
To put it simply... Aeipathy Con has exploded. I know that this is all happening behind the scenes so you'll have to take my word for it, but my connections with other site managers/admins plus recent contacts in the publishing world have seen talk of this Convention hit my Inbox hard. Originally, I had planned for this to be a little in-house weekend celebration for the community - totally doable in a month. Now, I already have leads on multiple communities who might want to come and join us for the weekend, plus at least four special guest speakers and panellists - some of whom currently work in the publishing industry or are published writers themselves. It would appear that a writing convention is a popular concept!
As such, we need a little a lot more time to pull this baby together. And make it big.
I can confirm that the new date for the Aeipathy Convention 2020 is actually going to be in March. Which is why the event is now the Aeipathy Convention 2021 >..<" Mark it on your Calendars people (I promise it won't move again!) - The Aeipathy Convention 2021 is going to be:
So, mark it down, don't book holiday. Yes, I have checked and there are no holidays in the majority of large countries. I have really tried. No, it's not going to move again, regardless of personal circumstance. Think of this as a real convention - that you travel and stay elsewhere for. It's just easier to access because it's on your PC and you can sit at home in your PJs.
Next Steps
The next steps in this awesome project is basically down to me reaching out to more people and working out new concepts, panels and ideas. I've already had to stretch the planned event from two days to three to include all of this awesomeness but there is all the potential for running it around a 24 hour clock in order to appease everyone in multiple timezones. This is going to be a big thing and it's going to be amazing. Over the next few months we'll be exploring potentials for things like online cosplay, special guest talks and how to run Q&As, live game play and special features, bonus sponsorship (where our members can contribute to the cost of this event in return for having their own name, company, channel or project advertised as a sponsor) and all other manner of awesomeness. The plan is dissect other conventions of this sort, break them down to what we think our members and others might enjoy and work out how to put them into action.
Fancy Getting Involved?
No-one on Aeipathy is automatically volunteered for this event. Your Staff Team on Aeipathy is solely the staff team on Aeipathy. They are not automatically staffers and moderators for the Convention. So far, this event has been entirely under my (JD's) steam. I will not be automatically volunteering the staffers on Aeipathy for moderator or panellist roles in the Con. It's for their enjoyment as well as the members'. On the other hand, if staffers, mentors, members, newcomers, readers or anyone else on Aeipathy would like to take part in this event in a supervisory role of some kind then keep your eyes peeled. Updates will continue over the next few months, including shout outs for new moderator volunteers and panel organisers.
Whilst we have nothing formal in place just yet for people to join us as a staffing team, we do encourage any and all of you to throw out their ideas for cool features or exciting games or contests or anything else they can think of and sing and dance about it in the server. Our staff will be keeping an eye on suggestions and making notes! You never know! You might see your favoured ideas appearing on the timetable come March!
We hope to see you all there!
