The trudge back up the upper levels was miserable enough that it almost made him regret having made such a fuss about sleeping at the barracks. He had a couple of night’s grace before that became his reality, and gods but if he didn't need the comfort of a soft bed and the last of the poppy that he’d stashed in his room. At least he could smoke himself into oblivion one last time.
The guard who was shadowing him in case by some miracle he had any energy or inclination to make a break for it was thankfully not Daxos, and seemed happy enough just to keep his mouth shut which was something because Sil couldn't be bothered to come up with any snark. That was how he knew he was broken, that never happened.
One weary step after the other, nothing but the thought of a soft bed and a pipe keeping him going. He was so tired that he almost didn't bother to give the girl sitting in the doorway a once over, just glanced at her and then beyond but there was something familiar about her and even in his exhaustion, that was enough to have Sil look back as he tried to place her.
Dark eyes, sort of exotic looking. Nice breasts. Oh!
The one with the cockblocking sister. He stopped right in front of her, the soldier trailing him almost running into his back as the lord waited for her to look up and then smiled. Who cared about the bruises. It gave him a roguish charm.
“....I’d apologise for forgetting your name if I wasn’t sure it’d be better for you to tell me again anyway,” he said, remembering it had been something foreign-sounding and hard to pronounce.

Somra wasn’t sure what she wanted to do exactly, she just knew that she could not sit in that dusty and half burnt house that they had been calling a base any longer. There was only so many spiders she could tolerate before she wanted to run. But after her first night there and the experience of Khanh’s anger, she wasn’t about to make a fuss about it. Instead she tried to spend as much time away from there as possible. Even if she really wasn’t doing anything.
At the moment she had placed herself in the doorway of a home that she knew to be empty. Or thought to be empty, she had never noticed any movement in it or around it really, and now that she had been sitting in it’s only doorway for an extended period of time and no one had come or gone, she could safely assume as such. The place wasn’t run down, and likely would be a better place for their stay in Colchis. She planned on pitching the idea to Khanh, Nahash having been gone an awful lot. He was a hard man to find for conversation, so she would instead go to Khanh who could either make the decision to move them, or he could present the idea to Nahash himself.
Just as she was thinking about getting up and going to find Khanh to tell him about this place, a familiar man walked by. The noble man who had ‘accidentally’ grabbed her breast at the opening of the new bathhouses. He didn’t seem to recognize her, until he did. And suddenly he was back tracking a bit and trying to throw the charm on.
Of course he didn’t remember her name, nobility were so full of themselves it was a wonder they even remembered the names of their own family members.
This one seemed more empty headed than most.
“Aurhai.” She said, standing from her spot in the doorway, she took the two steps down to the street, standing closer to him than was typically necessary. She knew how to flirt, and boy was it easy with most men. Slaves to their primitive sides, men seemed to lose any wits they had at the thought a woman might want them.
“Lucky for you I have not forgotten your name, Lord Silanos.” She said, putting emphasis on his name, adding a sultry tone to her voice.
Her dark eyes moved to land on the guard who seemed to be following the Lord around and was now glaring at her as if she had just pulled a knife on the man and stabbed him.
“A friend of yours?” She asked, looking back at Silanos with a raised eyebrow. He didn’t seem to be a personal guard, or at least their body language together didn’t seem to give her that impression. So what was this man doing following the Lord around? Not that it mattered to her exactly, merely she was curious what sort of thing he had gotten himself into.

Or Hey. Right. Sil lifted his eyebrows as the girl stood and took a couple of steps down from the doorway, his smile growing as she came to a halt a hairsbreadth from him. He looked her over, not bothering to be subtle about it. “Or maybe it’s lucky for you” he answered. “I might have been offended if you had.” Unlikely, because he wasn’t precious like that, but an easy reply and so he went with it.
He liked the way his name sounded in her accent and spent a moment reacquainting himself with those features that had first caught his attention at the loutra. Or...at least, he’d noticed them after he’d accidentally copped a feel. He remembered why he’d been so taken with her though. Dark eyes like obsidian and that smooth, buttery tan skin. Far more appealing a diversion than his miserable trek home.
Frowning slightly when her gaze lifted over his shoulder, Silanos had all but forgotten his shadow and he pulled a face a little when the girl asked about him.
“No. Not” he replied, without sparing the soldier a glance. He realised belatedly that actually, having someone dogging his steps was kind of cramping his style and silently bemoaned his circumstances even more. “Don’t worry about him. Act like he’s not here.” Silanos instructed, not wanting to get into it. With any luck, this guard wouldn’t take his duties as seriously as Daxos had.
Silanos hadn’t moved to put any distance between them, and now he craned his neck to look down at the petite woman, smirking a little even though it pulled on the healing cut on his lip. He looked a bit of a mess actually, what with the bruising that mottled the sharp line of his jaw and that fresh looking scab at his mouth. Never mind that his clothes appeared as if he’d literally rolled around on the earth for the day. But the lord didn’t seem much perturbed by such things now he had the distraction of Aurhai to amuse himself with.
The lord looked briefly toward the doorway the stood in front of, wondering if this was where the girl lived, or something else. “ What about you? Heading out or heading in?” He tilted his head a little. “You slipped off at the loutra...break it to me gently if you’re gonna do the same again.”

She couldn’t say that she was surprised as the other looked her over with absolutely no subtlety. She didn’t mind, she liked the attention of men, and she knew she was beautiful. It was always nice to know that someone noticed. Besides that, he was a Lord, the exact type she was going after. A man with money, and a man with a title.
She wanted to roll her eyes at his comment about it being lucky for her. The arrogance. But instead her seductive smile widened and she giggled a little, as if he was some how charming. Charming didn’t matter to her, a life of luxury did. If she had to seduce some idiot to get there, so be it.
The way he looked was not lost on her, he looked as if he had been in some sort of fight. Which if she was being honest, made her more attracted to him, Somra was a sucker for a manly man, and while she doubted he was that manly, a bit of fighting was at least something.
“What ever you say.” She said, a bit of an inflection in her voice, the words sounded as if she was simply talking about him telling her to ignore the guard, but her tone hinted that her words might mean a little more. She knew how to flirt, almost as well as she knew how to climb near unclimbable surfaces.
“A lady never tells her secrets.” She replied as he asked about the doorway of the house that she had been sitting in. She certainly wasn’t going to say she was staking it out as a potential new hideout for the group of thieves she was currently part of.
Instead she put her hand on his arm and blinked a couple of times, as if she was sweet and innocent.
“I do apologize, my sister insisted we go.” She stated, still a little upset about Tiye pulling that on her in front of the Lord.
“If you have the time, there’s this lovely little tavern just down the road. They have fantastic wine, and I’m sure we can find a little… privacy at a table?” She offered, wine would help dull his senses so she could plant ideas in his head a little easier. And with any luck, she could distract his tag along guard with a pretty whore so there would be no chance he might figure out that this foreign woman was trying to worm her way in with the Lord he seemed to be guarding.
Worst case scenario, she could try and get some information out of this Lord if her other plans didn’t seem to be working out. He didn’t seem all that on guard around her at least, he seemed more than willing to just… go with what ever this pretty woman wanted.
Either way, what ever happened, the alcohol she planned on getting him to drink should loosen his tongue and make her job a lot easier. And he definitely didn't seem the type to turn down alcohol.

He wasn't going to kick up a fuss about her keeping her secrets. It wasn't like Silanos actually cared where the girl lived. It just would have made a convenient venue to move to if that had been the case. "Right" he nodded, glancing over her shoulder again and shrugging. The touch of her hand landing on his arm drew his focus back to her though, and Sil was wondering how the fuck he could shake off his babysitter to end this day in a fashion much better than the one it had begun in.
"I have time" he answered automatically because Sil always had time for pretty girls. He just had to figure out he could wangle this one. Had the man's instructions just been to follow him? If that was the case, then the lug could do just that, and Sil decided he would just assume that was the case and hope the soldier hadn't been given any more detailed orders. He wasn't going to do anything controversial anyway...what trouble could he get into with one drink with a little thing like this?
Only Timaeus' words rang in his ears, and his brother had been so angry it made Silanos pause. He hadn't explicitly been told to go straight home, but the implication was there, and after the day he'd had...well it wasn't worth aggravating him. Besides, maybe he had a better idea. "But look, I'm a mess...I was just on my way home. Why don't you come with? I can get cleaned up then, and you can provide me with some company that is a great deal more charming than what I have currently?"
He tilted his head a little in question, letting the offer stand. This way he wasn't breaking any rules, and yet he didn't have to say goodbye to Aurhai so soon after stumbling across her again. Silanos congratulated himself on his wisdom.
Assuming his brother wasn't there of course, which Sil was counting on. It was drawing close to the hour that Tim would shut himself his study with a flagon of wine anyway. And though Sil felt like a sack of shit that had been kicked from here to Taengea and back again, he'd feel better with a bit of a distraction. He didn't want to turn into another moping Valaoritis brother, that wasn't his way of his coping.
"Come on" he coaxed, "it'll be more comfortable than any tavern, I can promise you."

This was better than Somra could have hoped. Did he really just invite her to his house? This was golden, she could do a little recon while she was there, and it wouldn’t be suspicious at all. She was an invited guest after all. And after this Lord was tired out and dead asleep, it would be all too easy for her to sneak through his house in the dark of night and memorize the layout. Khanh was going to be impressed, she was sure of it. What an opportunity, one afforded to her because of her looks.
“I suppose I could do that, but there best be wine.” She teased lightly, letting her hand trail softly down his arm, just enough to leave a teasing touch that she knew would linger against his skin. She gave him a charming smile, one that said she was completely into what ever plans he would have upon getting to his house. Though she didn’t think she would need to do a lot more charming, he seemed to have fallen for it.
“Lead the way.” She whispered in a low voice, following him as he did so. This night was turning out amazingly, and the Lord seemed to be none the wiser that she was going to scout his house for the others to go in and rob him blind the first chance they got. Of course, women couldn’t do such things could they? The naivety of men was a wonderful thing, and one that she often relied on to get what she wanted.
As they walked, Somra tried to think of what she could say to this Lord. It was clear her seduction had already worked, and aside from a little bit of teasing to keep him interested, she no longer needed to worry about getting him on her hook. He was firmly planted right where she wanted him to be.
“So who was that with you at the bathhouse?” She asked curiously, the other man had been a lord as well if she recalled correctly, but they had had to leave before she had gotten much information about either of them. Perhaps his house would be another future target. It seemed like the Lords around here weren’t too used to being safe around strangers. It had been all too easy to get an invite into Silanos’ home after all. She hadn’t even asked for it, having suggested they go to a tavern. He had brought it up himself.

‘I suppose I could do that, but there best be wine.’
It was all Silanos could do not to roll his eyes at that. As if there wouldn’t be. Ok fine, he might not be supposed to be drinking it, but there was no way a visitor wouldn’t’ be so accommodated and most of the time he could manage to charm the young kitchen girl into sneaking him just a little. Timaeus had gone way overboard in Sil’s view. He might not want his younger brother getting wasted but to deny him completely was just idiotic. Silanos had told him so many times over the past week or so though it didn’t seem to be having much impact. They could both be stubborn and pig-headed when they felt like it, but Timaeus really seemed to have dug his heels in about this and the soldiering and it was..upsetting if Sil were honest.
But fuck him, a pretty girl was smiling at him, and if that wasn’t enough to brighten Sil’s day, then nothing was. The young lord returned it and jerked his head up the hill towards the upper levels. “Come on then.”
His steps were slightly less laboured with the promise of a more entertaining evening than he had hoped and Silanos glanced toward the girl as they walked, brows lifting at the question.
“Lord Mihail? A friend. Why, did he catch your eye?” He wasn’t jealous, he and Mihail had passed women between them more than once, and Sil looked Aurhai up and down again as they walked. “You’re not his usual type, but he can appreciate beautiful things so I’m sure he wouldn’t turn you down.”
Ok, Sil wasn’t sure. Mihail’s tastes ran toward the..unpredicatable and often more masculine as far as the Valaoritis lord could tell, but no need to dash the girl’s hopes if that was indeed where they lay. For now, though, she was with him, and Silanos hadn’t given a second thought to inviting her back to the house his brother had taken in the city. It made his life easier, and despite his natural inclination to buck against his brother’s overbearingness, even Sil could tell when he ought to try and walk the straight and narrow for a while. With any luck, he’d endure a couple of weeks of this soldiering nonsense and then life could return to normal.
When they reached the house, the lord swept in as one would expect, asking wine be brought to his guest. Somra was led to a pleasant room at the front of the house that overlooked the courtyard below whilst her host disappeared. It was only a few moments before a sulky looking maid came in and offered her wine.
When Sil appeared a few minutes later, it was minus the layer of grime that had coated his skin before and in a clean chiton, looking more the part of a young lord than a weary soldier. He flopped onto one of the klines with little ceremony, patted the space next to him.
“Alright then...come entertain me with tales of your day which I’m sure was less dull than mine,” he said easily, popping a grape into his mouth from the platter that had appeared and watching her expectantly.

“Alright then...come entertain me with tales of your day which I’m sure was less dull than mine,” he said easily, popping a grape into his mouth from the platter that had appeared and watching her expectantly.
Somra bit her tongue to keep from laughing loudly as the other asked if she was interested in his friend. He was... very far from her type. Even this lord wasn’t particularly her type, Somra preferred large men with plenty of muscle, but his title was enough to keep her at least a little interested. And Silanos wasn’t completely terrible to look at, he was handsome in his own way if not in the way she preferred. But his friend had drawn zero interest from Somra, even with the noble title.
Instead she managed to giggle a little instead of out right laughing.
“No, no. Just curious about your connection with him is all.” She said simply, which wasn’t a lie by any means. Information was information and you never knew what might serve them well in the future. She was not the strongest in the group, that much was certain, and she had no skills with herbs like Tiye, but if Somra was good for one thing, it was charming and flirting her way into information.
Somra followed him into the house, immediately her dark eyes took in every single detail that she could, memorizing anything and everything that might be pertinent in breaking in here later and taking valuables. She was lucky in that her memory worked well, and she would be able to remember everything here for the most part if she focused on what was important.
Somra smiled and took the wine that was brought, waiting for Silanos and the serving staff to disappear. She took a quick drink of her wine, just enough that it would look like she was drinking it while he was gone. She set it down and began her recon. Moving quietly and quickly, she checked adjoining rooms, making note of the layout.
Until she heard footsteps returning, at that point she slipped back into the main room and scooped up her wine, moving quietly to the balcony, she leaned on the railing as if she had been admiring the view the whole time.
Her eyes trailed down the side of the building for a moment, picking out her exact path up.
It would be all too easy to get back in here when no one was home. Idiots.
She turned from the railing as he entered the room only a few short seconds after she had positioned herself innocently looking outside. She gave him a little flirty grin as he motioned for her to come and sit with him.
She lifted the cup of wine to her lips, taking a slow sip of the liquid, making him wait a few moments longer for her company.
She then moved towards him, taking her time. Her movements were graceful and almost dancerly, even something as simple as walking over towards him was made to look like a show by Somra and the help of her flowing dress.
She took the spot beside him, turned slightly so she could face him as they sat, pressed close enough that their legs were touching.
“I don’t know about that. My day was rather dull.” She said, which wasn’t entirely true. Not like she could tell him what she had been doing with her day.
She reached up with her free hand to softly touch some of the bruises on his face, looking at him with a soft expression.
“It seems your day was much more interesting than mine.” She stated, hand dropping back to her lap instead. She had to admit, the bruises actually made him more attractive to her. She liked tough men, and bruises meant a fight. Though she wasn’t so sure he was on the winning side by the looks of him.

Sil didn’t make any effort to disguise the leisurely progress of his gaze over her body. It was clear she was offering him the opportunity, taking her time in acquiescing to his request that she join him. It was a nice view too, she was sort of graceful in the way she moved, and he could appreciate some confidence in a girl. Hopefully, it would mean he wouldn’t have to chase too hard because, fuck, if he wasn’t feeling the trials of the day now.
He didn’t move as she dipped to sit next to him, laying with his head sprawled back upon the plush padding of the kline, eyes half-closed though they followed her motion. He lifted a brow at her reluctance to regale him with stories of her day, because again, he was feeling lazy and also, he didn’t much want to recount his. It had fucking sucked, after all.
“Interesting is not the word I’d use to describe it,” he said after her fingers had drifted over the bruises on his face. Still tender, his whole body felt a little like one giant bruise if he were honest. He wasn’t built for flinging himself around like a madman for ten hours a day. Or running. Definitely not for being taking the beating he’d been given today, and his ego was a sore as the rest of him.
In fact, his pride had probably taken the biggest dent. To be ordered around like he was nothing more than a commoner, never mind that little showdown with Timaeus in front of Maleos. It was enough to kill whatever lift Aurhair had offered his mood if he dwelt upon it, so Sil shook it off.
He’d barely slept the night before. He wanted a smoke. Or sex. Or both and he couldn’t decide in which order, but both would help reset the day he’d had.
“Do you ever smoke?” he asked, haphazardly trying to recall where he’d last had his pipe. Or maybe he had some the tincture left that he’d gotten from Estevan. Somewhere. “Do you want to?” He turned blue eyes toward the young woman beside him, appraising.Aurhai didn't seem the type to be put out by the offer, but one never could tell. And if she was...well then his decision as to how he wanted to spend his evening would have to be accelerated, was all.
He stretched, the yawn turning into a wince as his shoulder protested at the extension probably where he’d landed on the dirt the first time. Or maybe the third. He hadn’t quite summoned the energy to go and retrieve whatever he had left in his dwindling supply of stimulants, but the thought was at least there as he waited for the girl to make her answer.

Somra was far from the innocent type, she had grown up in a whorehouse, had been intended to take up to profession as soon as she was old enough. She had been around sex, drugs and alcohol since she was born. But this man knew none of this, and he would continue to not know any of it. For all he knew, she was an innocent woman, someone young and naive from foreign lands. Men tended to like that game, the play of innocence. So when he asked her if she smoked, an innocent look was upon her face.
“Smoke? No, I never have.” She said, her tone easily convincing. Somra was used to playing a part, it was how she got what she wanted. She had spent her life being someone other than herself, trying to find a noble man with money to take her as a wife. Now? She was casing the place, and with any luck, would later be robbing him blind.
“But a man as handsome as you, could convince me to do anything.” She said, her tone innocent still, but her words betraying a second meaning behind them.
“Tell me what you need and where to find it, let me get it for you so you can relax.” She purred, if he went for it, it would be another way for her to search around a bit, scope the place if what he needed was in another room some where. Nothing suspicious here, just a woman trying to seduce a man, that was it. As far as anyone was aware at least.
Mostly she just wanted any excuse to take a look around, to make note of the layout of the house and make note of any valuables that might be worth coming back for. He was noble after all, and the house was rather nice, they had to have at least something worth taking. Even if it was just to break their boredom. Sitting around all the time waiting for the master plan was getting awfully tedious, and Somra knew she wasn’t the only one who thought so.
“Perhaps, once you’ve had a chance to smoke, there is something else I can do to help you relax a little more after your day?” She said, assuming he would understand what she meant. Sure she was here to scout his place to rob him later, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t have her fun too. What was the point in being beautiful and capable of seducing most men if she didn’t at least sleep with the good looking ones?

‘But a man as handsome as you could convince me to do anything.’
Silanos wasn’t so dumb not to see through the innocent act. Innocent girls didn't follow lords into their house alone or sit so close. But he didn’t want innocence. Too much effort when he was fucking exhausted. If he wanted anything, it was a smoke, a quick fuck and then someone who’d see themselves out and not ask anything more of him. Aurhai seemed pretty laid back so far, which was a good sign.
“Is that right?” he muttered, a small grin flashed her way before he leant over to rummage in a small box on the side. He didn’t tend to leave his shit lying around; it was just another reason for Tim to rag on him after all, and he realised in dismay that he was going to have to move.
“Nah, don't worry about it. I’ll go. You stay right here and make yourself comfortable, hmm?” And then, deciding he might as well be clear about his intent now and not waste his time, he paused and glanced back at her. “Unless...you want to come with me? We could take this to my chambers instead. Bit more comfortable, and my fuckface of a brother is less likely to interrupt us getting to know one another?”
Assuming she didn’t refuse, Sil offered his hand to draw her to her feet, leading her through the main hallway of the manor house until they reached his room, and when they entered, he twisted to kick the door closed with his foot, so it closed with a bang behind them.
Silanos let go of the girl’s hand and waved vaguely for her to make herself at home. The kline, the bed..wherever she wanted. He was already scouring for his pipe, and he found it discarded on the floor next to the bed, wincing as he stood from retrieving it. Everything fucking hurt.
Scowling, Silanos knocked out the pipe and set about packing the bowl again with his dwindling supply of poppy. He didn’t know how he was going to get more now, or even how long he’d have before he’d be staying at the fucking barracks instead of here. It was a miserable proposition.
When the pipe was lit, he flopped down onto the bed and took a leisurely pull, holding his breath before he let the smoke curl lazily out of his nose up toward the ceiling. “Here,” he said, patting the space next to him. “Come here and try it. You’ll be alright. I’ve got you.”
