Even before the day had really started, before the household had awakened, and the servants were still bleary eyed, Evangelina was slipping from the bed she’d hardly slept in last night dressing herself to not cause attention to shift as to why she was up so early in the morning. The sun was still below the horizon but there were faint traces of light peeking out to cast a gray haze upon everything. Grabbing a green apple from the kitchen, she slipped out the side door for the servant and bit into her apple as she hurried to the stables. Her chestnut colored hair in a ponytail swinging from side to side with every purposeful step she took.
For the first time during this visit she wished she’d had a few more days to spend here in the city before returning with her family to Acharist. Lord Nikos thought she was beautiful. Her uncle’s servants were well acquainted with her morning rides. She’d been riding out alone since she’d learned to saddle her own horse. Determined to never be a creature dependent upon another, she’d learned to saddle them and then still too short to swing up onto them she’d become a master at finding something to stand on in order to get on. Fence posts, buckets, tree logs, there was even that one time she’d climbed up and dangled from one of the beams in the barn in Acharist to drop several feet into the saddle of her trusted spotted gelding. It was worth considering that she’d only done that particular mount once… while she might try anything if she didn’t like it chances were that she wouldn’t do it again. And after the mischievous gelding took just a half a step forward she’d almost had a hard landing in the straw bedding rather than on her gelding.
Those days were long gone though. She’d grown, and despite still being rather short, her legs had grown out. She was quite all legs and arms and while she wasn’t on a horse, she didn’t know what to do with herself, on a horse she was quite a different creature. Saddling the appaloosa and giving him the remains of her finished breakfast, she led him just outside of the stables and easily swung up on to him, her feet never touching the stirrups as she did. As soon as she sank into the saddle the gelding was moving already knowing where he was headed.
Letting her legs dangle out of the stirrups, she let him pick up his jostling trot as they navigated down the path towards the beach near the quarter. The sun was touching the horizon and pink and orange and shades of peach and red were blazing through the sky now. Her deep scarlet chiton waved against the leopard appaloosa’s barrel. His hooves dug softly into the sand as she guided him towards the water. Taking him just deep enough that his belly was wet, the gelding pawed the water playing.
The world was quiet around her as she leaned back onto his haunches and closed her eyes. If today was to be her last day in the city for a while then she was going to make the absolute most of it. She was going to bask in the sunlight, play in the water, and let herself get lost in the sands until it was time for her to return. The hairs on her forearm lifted and she smiled. Opening her eyes slowly, she glanced towards the edge of the horizon and waited.

Bored with the women he'd been fooling around with. Bored with the wine and drugs. So he'd traveled, in the rain, to visit the temple of the goddess Aphrodite in the city, hoping n offering to the goddess of love and passion would spark a new interest in his life.
That is when a young girl from his past crossed his path. Evangelina Leventi. He'd only ever had the pleasure of her company one time. A handful of years ago. She'd been a spunky child then. But one that had left an impression on him. Oh she was a Leventi; the Condos lord had heard talk of her before that day, but there were so many of them he often mixed them up. But watching a race in a tree together did something to set one apart from the crowd.
Yesterday had done more to solidify that. The Lady Leventi was still young. Still innocent in so many ways. Nikos would not be able to rush into things as he had so many times in the past. But truth be told, the baron wasn't sure he wanted to rush things. There was a fire in this one that he craved to see grow. And he wanted to be the one to blow on those flames.
It was still early, the break of dawn just coming over the horizon. Nikos rode hard for the beach, toward a little cove where Evangelina had hinted she'd be today when he'd asked if he could see her again. A sly smile on his lips, Nikos bent low in the saddle and urged his mare on. He found himself excited to see her again. He was more excited about the day than he had been in weeks.
His mount trotted around a large outcropping of rocks and Nikos caught sight of her. The lady's hair shone in the morning sun, and she looked radiant indeed sitting there on her steed with the tide lapping at her ankles as she was deep enough for the horses belly to be wet. His smile grew and he pulled his mare into a slower walk as he neared her, though he did not venture near as deeply into the waters. "Good morning, Lady Evangelina. Mind if I join you in basking in the sunrise?" His blue eyes glittered in the early light as his horses hooves churned in the soft turf in the ocean's shallows.

Was there anything that could calm her soul more than the ocean tide in the morning as she sat on a horse? Joy seeped into every tiny pore of her soul causing her to smile unabashedly and tilt her head just a little further up soaking up the early morning light. If there was anything that could, she didn’t know what it could be? In fact, she couldn’t imagine anything that could bring her the sort of happiness that this did.
‘Good morning, Lady Evangelina. Mind if I join you in basking in the sunrise?’
Her body jerked as she quickly turned her head in surprise and met his smiling blue eyes. Catching her bottom lip between her lip, it was him. Lord Nikos. He’d come. Her breathing caught in her throat and she was pretty sure she was going to be so bruised if her heart didn’t stop thumping so violently in her chest. She felt so light, like she’d been sitting too long and had suddenly stood up. Was this what it felt like to swoon?
Letting her bottom lip go, she traced it with the tip of her tongue. Sweet Posidon, why was he here? Why was he interested in her? She blinked her big dark eyes at him and realized she was openly staring at him and that he was still waiting for her to answer him. Pulling her gaze away from him, her cheeks pinkened and she smiled and shrugged.
“I suppose if I was going to mind if you joined me I probably shouldn’t have invited you.” There was an innocent tease of amusement in her voice. She couldn’t resist stealing another glance up at him from behind her sweeping eyelashes. He was riding closer… closer… Her breathing hitched causing the pulse in her throat to jump and flutter. Closer.
His mare was there not even a full horse length away from her. He’d really shown up. He was here and it wasn’t coincidence. He’d wanted to see her. That sent a shiver down her spine and she smiled at him.
“I can’t decide if I should sacrifice myself to Poseidon or Apollo this morning.” She murmured and glanced from him to the water and then slowly back up to the sky and sighed and bit her bottom lip then snuck another quick look over to him. “If most definitely feels like I should be worshipping someone…” The curve of her lip lifted faintly as she hummed those words out softly and almost instantly wondering if she’d been entirely too forward.

’I supposed if I was going to mind if you joined me, I probably shouldn’t have invited you.’ Nikos’ smile grew at this, and at the way she bit and licked her lip. It was adorable on her innocent looking young face, yet it was entirely sexy at the same time with her dark brown eyes looking at him through those thick lashes. It was obvious she hadn’t been sure he would actually show, but that she was pleased he had. His gaze roamed her body up and down, remembering the way she’d straddled him in the carriage, the way she’d kissed him. Like she’d been waiting for that chance for years. Perhaps she had. Who was he to deny a woman what she desired most? ”I suppose not.” he replied, matching her teasing tone. His horse whinnied and Nik dropped a hand to pat the beast on the side of the neck as he turned his attention to the lighting skies.
’I can’t decide if I should sacrifice myself to Poseidon or Apollo this morning.’ Nik shifted his gaze back to Evangelina, a smirk on his face as he watched her gaze shift in every direction, watched as she worried at her lip again and finally looked back at him. ’It most definitely feels like I should be worshipping someone…’ The baron’s smile grew, and he wanted to tell her she was welcome to worship him anytime she wished. But he reminded himself that she was not one of his usual conquests. He needed to take this one slower. ”I don’t know. I think an offering to Aphrodite is in order.” The Condos lord let his piercing gaze linger on the Leventi girl for a few moments before he turned his gaze to the horizon, watching the sun lighting the morning skies.
After a few quiet minutes with just the sounds of the waves and their horses to break the silence, he reached a hand behind him and patted the bulging saddle bag. ”I brought a bit of food. And wine. Have breakfast with me?” A man not used to being denied, he didn’t wait for her response before he guided his steed out of the shallows and back onto the sands. The fine grains were kicked up as the horse’s hooves churned up the beach as Nik headed for a small grassy area where they could sit on the fabric he’d brought and the sand would not get into places it shouldn’t. Nikos dismounted and looped the reins loosely on a broken branch sticking up from an old fallen tree trunk. Then he set about retrieving the supplies from his saddle bags and setting up the little picnic.

The way his eyes travelled over her tender curves sparked a flash of unexpected heat through her. The blood in her body burned with a desire that felt far more grown up than her young age. Her heart beat a little faster and her breaths grew a little deeper. Evangelina’s teeth bit into the soft fullness of her bottom lip as she compared these feelings to the ones she’d experienced when he’d kissed her just yesterday and she felt the flush of warmth spread across her cheeks. The light that sparkled in her dark eyes gave her thoughts so clearly away to him. She was thinking about his mouth following the line that his eyes were making on her.
‘I suppose not.’
His lazy tone was full of secrets that she wished to know. Secrets that made her toes curl and a desire to press herself into him and envelope his being around her. His smell and his taste. The way his skin would heat hers and how she’d get those small tiny bumps on her arm… the ones she usually got only when she was cold.
Evangelina hadn’t ever been a girl who could leave something alone though… even if everything about it was so wrong. He was a Condos and she was a Leventi and… Oh, the Gods were toying with her by making him interested in her. He was a man three or four times her experience levels, she knew the way some of the married ladies looked at him. She knew the rumors that he was a man who slipped from bed to bed but the little girl in her wanted him. Wanted him and wanted every single exciting feeling he made her feel. So that’s why she teased him with words of worshiping the Gods. She was so far out of her league with these games… but for as long as he wanted to play she’d dance through the fire.
‘I don’t know. I think an offering to Aphrodite is in order.’
Her breathing hitched and her eyes darkened slightly as her mouth fell ever so slightly open and she wanted to ask him what sort of offering to Aphrodite did he think was in order? But, she was more clever than that… She licked her lips again and tossed him a wicked little smile before she looked away coyly.
“Maybe that’s who I meant…” Her words came out breathy and lingering as she looked out at the sea and the sunrise and wondered how this could get any better.
‘I brought a bit of food. And wine. Have breakfast with me?’
His voice drew her in like the fishermen she’d seen with the small flies upon their wooden canes, toying and teasing until she finally took the bite that would be the end of her. She noticed the bulging saddle pad and a warmth spread up through her chest and into her cheeks again.
Reining her horse around, she let him amble slowly out of the shallows and back onto the white sands of the beach. Moving at the slower pace, she let her own gaze travel over him, noting the easy, graceful ways he moved and wondering how someone learned to move in such a way. She looked at her fill of him while he was distracted, letting herself soak him up in ways she’d never let herself do from across rooms and pinkened when he finally caught her looking so intently at him before she looked away afraid that she was making an absolute little fool out of herself.
“I think breakfast sounds like a splendid idea.” She murmured and let herself swing off the horse and settle onto the ground with the practiced grace of a Leventi. Setting the reins on a similiar branch she slowly approached him with a timidity that gave her away as being a young woman still new with these feelings but eager to explore them.
Stepping closer she peered past him, “So, what is on the menu?”

Nikos might have had his back to the young Leventi, but he could feel her eyes upon him. A man didn’t have as much experience with woman as Nik did and not know when a woman was watching him. The baron smirked that cocky grin of his, pointedly not looking and keeping himself busy with spreading out a thick linen for them to sit on and layout out the food and drink he’d brought for them to enjoy together. Fruits, fresh bread, a bit of cured cheese.
’I think breakfast sounds like a splendid idea. … So, what is on the menu?’
Nik finally turned to face Evangelina, a bottle of wine in his hand and a silver chalice in the other. He poured the rich red liquid and offered it to the girl, taking note how she moved almost hesitantly towards him. He did not move toward her, instead he held his place just before the linen, and let her come to him. ”Grapes. Berries. Some bread and cheese. I wanted to bring some veil or something. But it wouldn’t have traveled too well, I’m afraid. Had to go with more portable foods. I hope that is agreeable with you, my lady?” Once she had taken the cup of wine, he stooped to pick up the matching silver chalice he’d brought for himself and poured a generous amount. Nik was rarely completely sober; life was much more fun when he indulged.
The Condos lord took a long sip of his wine, then reached for Evangelina’s hand. ”Come. Sit. Eat.” He would help her to find a place upon the linen and he would sit with her – right next to her. Once they were comfortable, he set his wine aside in the sands, picked up the little wooden bowl of the small mixed fruits and picked out a bright red berry. He leaned close and held it out towards her in a way that was clear he wanted to put it in her mouth himself, ”Taste this. These are the sweetest berries I have ever tasted.”

Evangelina’s eyes widened slightly at the bounty he’d brought with him in evidence that she’d not expected such a gesture. Her teeth caught her bottom lip to keep it from trembling from the way her heart fluttered. Was this what it was like to be Theodora or Selene and have someone look at you and the world faded away? Was this what it was like to be the singular focus of someone who noticed you? She didn’t know what to do with the lithe limbs of her body, they felt like pieces of string that were just in the way.
Wrapping her arms around herself she stepped forward tentatively, a sheepish smile tugging at the corners of her lips as he spoke. Was his selection alright with her? Her soul seemed to float out of her body and her smile widened at him. Oh, it was more than alright. It was perfect. The tiny Leventi couldn’t have imagined anything that would have been better. It was the birth of every girlish fantasy she’d ever had coming to life.
He was suddenly the face of every romantic hero she’d dreamed up with her imagination. Those silly sort of girlish dreams her thoughts faded off into when she lay out in the pasture hiding from her lute tutor, the Leventi foals fuzzy and curious leaning over her keeping her company. Evangelina was smitten with him so deeply that she didn’t even realize her body had swayed just slightly towards him.
She’d been about to right herself when he’d taken her hand. ‘Come. Sit. Eat.’ And like that, she’d let him lead her to the linen with a smile.
“It all looks so beautiful, I’m almost afraid to eat any of it.” Her voice dipped huskily and her eyes looked up through her lashes at him before dancing back down at the food before her.
Her teeth caught her lip again as she watched his hand pluck the red berry from the group and her heart stopped as he leaned closer and… closer his hand offering the berry out with an obvious intent. Panic rose inside of her, what if she messed this up? Her eyes widened again up at him, almost questioning him as he spoke.
‘Taste this. These are the sweetest berries I have ever tasted.’
“I… Uh…” Her voice wobbled but she found her body leaning in without any pre-thought and her mouth opening. Her lips came around his fingers and her tongue gently stole the berry he’d been holding. Evangelina’s dark eyes glanced up at him and she smiled before she settled back a little distance away from him knowing her cheeks had pinked to the same shade as the berry she was teasing around in the corners of her mouth before she swallowed.
Dropping her gaze, her hand came up to her mouth and she tried to quiet the thumping in her heart. Had she really just done that? Nodding her head, “I love sweet berries.” It was quite the dumb thing to say and her mind was chastising her as soon as the words were out of her mouth but she wasn’t sure what else to say and the silence was too much for her.
Flicking her eyes back at him, her lips parted and the next thing she said wasn’t much better. “Do you pack berry breakfasts for all of your lady friends?”

’I…uh…’ The Condos lord could see the slight uncertainty in the Leventi lad’s eyes, the quiver in her body even as she leaned in closer. His lips curled up at the corners as she closed her mouth around the berry, her lips touching his fingers. Her cheeks flushed profusely and he couldn’t help but think of how beautifully it made her fair skin seem to glow. ’I love sweet berries.’ ”Good. There’s more where that came from.” Nikos chuckled lightly, moving the bowl to sit between them and popped a berry into his mouth with a satisfied look on his face, turning his gaze out to the rolling morning tides. He leaned back a bit, one hand propped behind himself so that he was turned to half face Evangelina and half face the beach before them. A few quiet moments passed before Evie spoke again.
”Do you pack berry breakfasts for all of your lady friends?”
Nikos turned his head to look at her, picking up cup of wine up at the same time and bringing it towards his lips. He paused though, with his drink halfway to his lips. He leveled his blue crystalline blue gaze on the young woman. ”Well, there aren’t that many lady friends that I would be willing to leave the comfort of my bed so early to pack breakfasts for.” He kept his eyes locked with hers as the smooth talking baron continued to lift his glass to his lips and take a drink or the sweet red liquid. He wanted to gauge her reaction, to see how well or how little his words affected her. It wasn’t an untruth – there really weren’t that many women in his life right now for which he would make such precious sacrifices as sleep. His mother, his sisters. But he needed tell Evagelina that he hadn’t had any women he was doting attentions on of late, for he’d grown bored with most the women he encountered. But, too, she needn’t know that he had indeed done this sort of thing before to seduce more than a few lovers of the years. No… let this one think that she was somehow special. It was, after all, the reputation he aimed to have – making women feel special and wanted.

Was it the way he looked at her? There was a light there in his eyes that she’d never noticed in other’s before. He was looking at her like she was the beginning and the end and it made her heart jolt and flop in her chest. Every night she’d prayed to the Gods that she wouldn’t be lost or forgotten among her cousins and there in his eyes she didn’t feel lost or forgotten; just the opposite actually. Awe was mirrored in the darkened honey of her eyes as she stared back.
‘Good. There’s more where that came from.’
Looking down, she found herself captivated by him moving the bowl of fruit closer to her. It was a temptation, everything about him was a temptation and something she knew shouldn’t happen. Her teeth brushed against the corner of her bottom of her lip and she stole a glance up at him. He was leaning back now, affording her a chance to take a long look at him.
Without thinking she reached out for the bowl to grab another berry, only instead she awkwardly missed the bowl and had to quickly recover. Her face tinting faintly hoping he’d not seen that from her. She didn’t know what to do with all of her long sinewy limbs, they seemed to long and lean for such a small body. Finding the berry, she placed it in her mouth and chewed slowly as she prodded him about his lady friends.
He cocked his head at her, seeming interested in her question but didn’t immediately answer it. Her heart fluttered in her chest wondering if she’d stepped too far over the line of friendliness by making such a comment. Her eyes dropped to her hands resting on the blanket and she opened her mouth to take back the question and perhaps say something more polite.
It simply never worked out well for her when she tried to emulate the suave charm of her cousins and their coy curiosity. It never failed that she came off curiously naïve, or troublesome for the questions she asked.
‘Well, there aren’t that many lady friends that I would be willing to leave the comfort of my bed so early to pack breakfasts for.’
When she looked up as he spoke, she found him staring directly into her eyes, drawing her deeper into the folds of comfort. Not that she entirely believed him, but his words put her at ease. A shaky small smile formed on her lips, and she looked down and back up through her lashes at him and bit her bottom lip again.
“And why am I so lucky than that you’d leave the comfort of a nice warm bed so early, for me?” She teased, and found herself rolling over onto her stomach and propping her head in her hands as she watched him, one leg bent at the knee bobbing ever so slowly in the air above her. Tilting her head, she continued, “You’re too charming for your own good. You know that, right?” Her dark eyes slid over his face again as she tried to find what lay under such a courtly mask.
“I’ve heard all the rumors about you.” She let out a small huff and narrowed her eyes a little at him, “So why are you here? Why me?” She wasn’t beautiful or sophisticated or any of the things that were associated with the women in the rumors with him at court.

“I’ve heard all the rumors about you.” She let out a small huff and narrowed her eyes a little at him, “So why are you here? Why me?” She wasn’t beautiful or sophisticated or any of the things that were associated with the women in the rumors with him at court.
’And why am I so lucky that you’d leave the comfort of a nice warm bed so early, for me?’
Nikos watched Evangelina as she shifted her position to lay on her stomach, the impression of her teeth scraping her lower lip still evident as she looked at him. Dear gods, she appeared so innocent like that. So young, with her leg bobbing in the air just so. He almost felt bad for associating with her in the way that he was. Almost. The kiss from the day before in his carriage dispelled any notion of turning away from this. ”You intrigued me. I was beginning to wonder if anything ever would again.”
’You’re too charming for your own good. You know that, right? So he’d been told before. It was probably true, but that charm was how he managed to escape so many sticky situations. ’I’ve heard all the rumors about you. So why are you here? Why me?’
Nikos let out a long breath, letting himself fall back to lay fully on his back and folded his hands behind his head. ”Do you remember when we first met, Evangelina? When we watched a horse race from a tree.” Nikos remembered it keenly. He still had the rock she’d given him sitting on his mantle in Doralis. She’d intrigued him then. As she had when he ran into her yesterday. ”You were smart and passionate and so sure of yourself. I wondered then what you’d be like when you were older.” He turned his head to look at her from his supine vantage point. ”You know my father was not at all happy we had spent the afternoon in that tree together.” The baron laughed it off, but that argument had resulted in him avoiding his father for months. That was not something Evangelina needed to be concerned with, however, so he didn’t continue with the story. ”You left and impression, dear Evangelina. Do I need any other reason than that to want to enjoy your company?” Yes he was being charming, seducing in his usual manner. But he reminded himself she was indeed still young, and he needed to take his time. He would enjoy this little game he played with so many girls for a bit longer than usual. The conquest would taste that much sweeter in the end.

At his simple reply, she blinked and then a wickedly deep throaty laugh escaped from her. She already knew that he was far too charming for his own good but to say that she intrigued him… Well, that was quite hilarious. She wasn’t the least bit intriguing, in fact, she was the exact opposite of intriguing. Everything about her was an open book. There weren’t any secrets to be had, most of the court didn’t even know which of the Leventis she was! Was she one of Georgios? Or maybe, Fotio’s middle daughter? Oh, well… she wasn’t Selene nor was she Theo so it really didn’t matter who she was.
Slanting a still too amused look at him she shook her head and wagged an index finger at him. “I don’t believe a word out of your mouth, my lord.” The pint sized Leventi laughed again but… was it too much to hope that maybe she did intrigue him? Oh! That would be a first time… Wouldn’t it?
She watched him at her next question… because Zeus, Almighty… She was never short of questions. He let out a long sigh, and laid back as if he wasn’t certain of that answer himself which only made her all the more curious. And that curiosity made her lean in just a little towards him as if prepared to hear of some great secret.
But, his answer only confused her. Her big, dark doe eyes blinked for a moment and her lips parted as if struggling to figure out what to say. Of course she remembered that day they’d met at the races… That day she’d ducked under a table to avoid him… the day that she’d sat in the tree with him watching the races How could she ever forget such a day? She might have been but a child but in just a single action he’d fulfilled every girlish dream she’d ever had of her and and him.
She was still looking at him when she answered, “Yes…” The word rolled out of her soft, steady, and for a moment it was easy to imagine she was much older. That thought made her flush a little and look away when she noticed he was looking at her again so curiously.
‘You know my father was not at all happy we had spent the afternoon in that tree together.’
Now, that was something that didn’t surprise her and it brought a genuine smile to her lips. She gave a soft bob of her head, causing her hair to jostle and her having to wipe it back away from her face. “Now, that…” Looking over at him, she focused her smile on him. “That I can believe.”
Folding her arms across the front of her, she rested her head on them as she watched him trying not to focus on the budding hope that maybe she was intriguing enough for him to take a second look at her.
“I can’t say that when my parents found out about it they were exactly thrilled, but I was.” She smiled again, not bothering to hide something she was pretty certain that he’d already known. His next words caused her breathing to still and her gaze to darken slightly.
‘You left an impression, dear Evangelina. Do I need any other reason than that to want to enjoy your company?’
The slightly too wide mouth formed an ‘o’ and then she smiled and shifted her head so she was looking straight ahead rather than at him. Her foot still bobbing in the air, she let that settle in before she looked at him again.
“Just to clarify, it was a good impression and not a…. ‘This one is weird, let's study her a bit.’ impression, right?” She asked, her eyebrow raising up a little and her teeth finding their way back to the bottom of her lip to chew nervously on it.

I can’t say that when my parents found out about it they were exactly thrilled, but I was.’
That had made him chuckled and smile mischievously at her, his blue eyes flaring with the promise of more things her parents wouldn’t be thrilled with happening. What would her father think if the lord found out about this little meeting? What would his own father think? Would Nikos get into another argument with Nikolias and be forced to avoid the older Condos lord, much like he had after the argument about the day spent in a tree with a Leventi girl? Nikolias had accused Nik of kissing Evangelina back then. At least if Nik was accused of such a thing this time, it will be true. He smirked, thinking of their little carriage ride yesterday. Unexpected, but definitely pleasant.
Nikos watched the Leventi Lady, studying the way she reacted to everything he said. She was… adorable really. Adorable in a way that made him want to see more. He liked the way her cheeks flushed when he was near her, the way her eyes darkened when she looked at him – those wonderfully warm brown eyes. He picked at the berries in the bowl between them, while she appeared to be digesting his confession that she had left an impression. ’I don’t believe a word out of your mouth, my lord.’ That’s what she’d said moments before when he’d told her she intrigued him. There was a challenge underlying those words. Maybe not intentionally, but there was. One that he meant to meet head on. It had been a while since he enjoyed the chase of a woman. He’d grown so bored and disinterested in his usual conquests. This was a much welcomed change of pace – a woman not completely falling all over him and hanging on his every word.
’Just to clarify, it was a good impression and not a… ‘This one is weird, let’s study her a bit.’ Impression, right?’[/i]
Nikos’ grin grew, a light laugh escaping him. There she was chewing on that lip again. That kissable swollen lip. He leaned forward from where he lay on his side, propped by the one elbow. He brought his other hand to her lips, ran his thumb along that lower lips she liked to worry with her teeth so much. His blue gaze, darkening with a hint of carnal hunger, flicked from her lips to her eyes. ”It was most certainly a good impression, Evangelina.” His gaze shifted back to her lips and back to her eyes, his hand under her chin, lifting her face even as he continued to lean in. If she did not pull away soon, his lips would be on hers, delivering a delectably teasing kiss.
