Nothing had gone as he expected from sunset to sunset. From Queen Persephone's retinue that had claimed his home as their temporary refuge to Lord Alehandros and the Master Informer in the middle of a charred province, Hector spoke with more people in the past two days than he had bothered to speak to in the month prior.
Everything had changed, and his world had exploded in size over the course of a few breaths.
It changed even further now as Hector was given a new set of orders and priorities. Though he was loathe to disobey a direct order from his Queen, the importance of Lord Alehandros' missive along with the assurance that Lady Iris would be safe in the company of Master Cicero and her kin Elysia, Hector rode hard in the direction of home, returning to Arcana with even swifter speed than when he left it early that morning. Even at this faster pace, it was still a long, hard ride, and the suns final rays were casting orange and gold light across the pale buildings of Arcana.
It neared dusk by the time he settled his mount and crossed through the doors, stiffening still at the sight of such a crowded home, even though he knew to expect it. It was jarring. Quickly catching his daughter in the midst of maintaining the comfort of as many people at a time as she could manage, he asked for the Queen's whereabouts.
The answer surprised him, but given her guidance, Hector quietly made his way to the courtyard of his home, where a lone figure sat before @athena's altar.
His footsteps seemed to immediately disturb the peace of the moment, even as he slowed and softened each footfall. Approaching quietly, he was loathe to disturb the communion between the Queen and the patron goddess for her Kingdom. Honestly, he could think of no more important conversation to be had between two souls.
Hector slowed standing beside the stone bench that rested before the goddess, the soapstone figurine towering above now-fading offerings of lily flowers, a bowl of grain from when he made the last loaf of bread for Gregor and Ismene to take with them, and a bowl with the ashes of the resin burned in her honor. It was simple, but he felt it kept the goddess closer to him, even more so than the public one in Arcana. He knew he could always call on her in times like these, no matter where.
For those few moments, he stood quietly by, admiring the goddess before him before looking again to the Queen at his side, ensuring that the time was right before speaking softly, even reverently as they were still in the Goddess' presence.
"Your Majesty, a message." Hector slowly extended the missive, bound with the Antonis seal, towards the Queen, beginning the explanation for the oddity as soon as he had offered it. "On the journey to the capital, Lady Iris redirected us to Aetaea, where we were met by Lord Alehandros of Antonis, the Master Informer, and his wife. Lady Iris carries on to Athenia in their company, but Lord Alehandros charged me to deliver this. I beg your forgiveness for not fulfilling my duty as ordered, but...this seemed of particular importance."
After all, there was no question in his mind in that moment that Queen Persephone had an ally in House Antonis, particularly with the investigation leading them further to confirmation that it was her fate that the fires sought to seal.
