Selene liked to set the example for her family and had always been pressed to do so. As the eldest, it had always fallen to her to be the ‘good girl’. To show the rest how to act, how to behave and how to respond to challenges. And while some people seemed to collapse under pressure like that, she had embraced the idea and had lovingly shown them how a woman of wealth and good upbringing should act. And she had always done so with a careful hand. Rarely did she openly admonish the girls, or was malice in her words. She loved her family and was proud to be a Leventi. If she passed on nothing else to her sisters and cousins, Selene wanted the pride to be felt by all of them.
As Evie stepped back into the room, Selene couldn’t help but beam, noting how right Pia had been about the color on the girl. If she ever came to her asking for something to wear, she would immediately point her to the small pile of green colored chitons within her closet. The color was fetching on her.
Theo’s reaction to the comment about her wedding hadn’t gone unnoticed. For a woman about to make a sound match with a royal family, she certainly wasn’t reacting how she was expected to. After all, all they had ever wanted was to find a match that would make their family proud. Achilleas was a fine man, from a royal family who would make Theo a baroness. It was everything they had ever whispered about, heads pressed together as they dreamed of a future. So why wasn’t she dying for the chance to speak about the match? Selene made a mental note to speak to her about it later, perhaps when they were alone.
Why didn’t she want to marry him?
But without being able to give Theo much of a second thought, her attention was drawn back to Pia and a toast. She smiled, soft and proud, and raised her own goblet up towards her sister. Waiting until everyone else finished, ”My dearest Sweet Pea. The Gods smiled down on our family the day you were born. Your passion and determination have been an inspiration for us all. You will make a strong mother, a fine queen simply because you are you-- A Leventi. There is no one else in the world who I want to wish more happiest, more love and more wealth than you.” She placed a hand on her shoulder, dropping a kiss to her head, ”May this be the start of a wealth of celebrations! To Queen Olympia!”
