It had been four years since Mihail's first Festival of Dionysus, and it had never lost its enjoyment. It was one of the very few places where he had the opportunity to be himself as wholly as he aspired, without Dysius or Father making snide remarks, and he could drink and smoke as much as he desired. And, best of all, he was thoroughly surrounded by like-minded individuals, which he tended to find were few and far between in Colchis. Thea was a rare exception.
This year was no different from the others. He was dressed in the same style of crimson chiton he often wore to excessive judgement back at home, with the waist cinched tightly and a solid band of gold wrapped around the waist, resting on his hips in the shape of his family's token viper. Mihail's hair was curled neatly below his ears, which he had cuffed with a similar snake-like form, and similar jewellery curled prettily around his upper arms. The Thanasi had no idea where the evening had gone, or if it was evening any longer. Half the night had been spent in the arms of someone, but whether they had been a man or a woman, Mihail was no longer certain, only sure that they had ended up with a face decorated in red cosmetic marks. His make-up was smeared horrendously.
Still, the night was professing wonderfully, and Mihail had enjoyed his fair share of wine goblets at the expense of someone or other whose name he had forgotten already. Now, he had latched onto somebody else's forgotten opium pile, privately thinking that their drug was neither as high-quality as his own copious supply back home, nor was their pipe as extravagant as his pretty silver one. No matter, however, for it was enough to daze him into the state he desired, hips swaying sleepily to the music that came from somewhere. He felt otherworldly and extraordinary for it, drifting easily from man to woman to man again, and trying to feel around every guest that struck his fancy.
"Darling, you shall surely have to come back to the Thanasi estate after this," he told one man who had clasped his hips and planted a ravenous kiss underneath his shaved jaw, shooing him away with a lack of interest, the suggestion only invented to keep him away. Mihail pushed past the man, falling dramatically onto a couch that, surprisingly, was not covered with some canoodling couple or another. He took another long drag from his pipe, draping himself across the furniture and reaching to steal a stray goblet of wine from the table beside him, unbothered by the fact that it belonged to someone else, and, at this point, not really confident that it did.
His gaze slipped to one of the other nearby partygoers, suddenly feeling unnaturally social, eyes bright behind elaborate kohl designs. The man held out the thin pipe he had acquired, lips quirking into an improbable smile. "Fancy a smoke?"

Oh, the Festival of Dionysius. This was one of the best days of the year for Nikos of Condos. It was right up there with the Festival of Aphrodite. The young baron loved to party to let loose and let the gods guide him to his celebrations in their name. Today was no different. Nikos was drunk off the richest wines he could get his hands on, high from smoking opium… Where had his pipe gotten off to? Dressed in a deep blue chiton, rather than his customary sky blue, Nikos wondered through the temple, flirting with every beautiful woman he passed and trading friendly conversation with nearly everyone else. Nikos tended to be the life of the party during these festivities, thoroughly reveling in everything the night had to offer. Wine, drugs, gambling, and sex – there was nothing the Condos lord didn’t have his hand in.
Now, though, Nikos was looking for a good place to sit, to catch his breath and… where is that opium pipe? Didn’t he have a fresh goblet of wine a few minutes ago? Nik spotted the chaise he’d been on at some point that night, he wasn’t sure how long ago it’d been. Someone was reclining on the plush furniture now. No matter. The guy had a pipe. Nikos made his way closer.
’Fancy a smoke?’
Nik flashed a wide and warm grin. ”Excellent. You read my mind.” He accepted the pipe, looking at it before taking a hit off of it. It wasn’t his pipe, but it would do. He took a long drag of the smoking opium as Nikos plopped down on the chaise next to the one who’d offered him the drug. He let out a long and satisfied sigh, stretching his free hand along the back of the seat. ”Not the best, but it still gets the job done.” he looked sideways at the other man, his soft blue eyes taking in the kohl the man wore around his eyes. Not something Nik did, but he didn’t begrudge others doing it, besides… this one’s eyes seemed to stand out with the dark color surrounding them. Perhaps that had been the goal. ”Enjoying the night?” Nik asked him as he offered the pipe back to his new companion.

If there was one thing for certain, it was that those at these festivities would never let Mihail down. They were just the sorts of people with which he most liked to associate, and this evening had been no exception thus far. The man to which the Thanasi had offered a taste of his pipe had accepted it eagerly, and the dark-haired man slipped his long legs to one side so the other could take a seat, naturally sliding them back over the other's lap once he had taken his seat on the couch. He rather liked the particular attention of having somebody else stuck close to him, especially on a night like this when all that he craved was the proximity of another.
"No, it is far from the best," he agreed, taking the pipe back from the other and glancing it over. He was unsure whether the statement was about the look of the pipe itself, or the quality of the drug, but he agreed with the other nonetheless. Once he returned to the lovely home where they were staying, he was going to indulge in a few more hours of smoke, aided by the comfort of his personal pipe. Perhaps, he would even end up there with another party by his side. Someone pretty. This man was rather good-looking, but Mihail saw no indication in him that he was all that interested in much more than the sharing of a pipe. "I would prefer that which I enjoy in Colchis, but my sister would never forgive me if I were to have opium sent over from home when there is so much for me to experience here." It was not his first time in Taengea, but there was still so much for him to do. One could never achieve everything there was to do at the festival in only four visits.
Taking another long drag on the pipe, Mihail fluttered his eyelids half-closed, gazing at the other through his thick eyelashes. Was he enjoying the night? Surely, that had to be a joke of sorts? It must have been impossible to attend such a grand party without enjoying oneself at least somewhat. "Dear, this is one of the finest nights of my life, and I do not tend to make such assertions often." He was more cynical than most, and it was strange for the young lord to express such a positive thought about anything, even when it was something that he so openly liked. Usually, only Draco or his favourite hobby of archery were privy to such joyful exclamations. "What is there not to adore about the Festival of Dionysus, hm? Other than, perhaps, how unnecessarily pushy some of the people appear to be when they should really be aware that I have no foolish intention whatsoever of offering them an opportunity to my bed."
He let out a long laugh, more sarcastic than anything else. One hand reached up absentmindedly to confirm the continued presence of the golden snakes hanging from his ears, momentarily forgetting the other who was there until he took another long drag from the ugly pipe. "Tell me your name, hm? I do not like to smoke with strangers."

Nikos didn’t mind in the least that the other had so casually lain his legs across the lord’s lap. In fact, Nik hardly noticed at all in that moment – he’d been touched by and touched so many that night already - as he’d taken that first long drag from the opium pipe, commenting on the quality of the drug within.
Colchis? Well that explained why Nikos didn’t readily recognize the other man. But Nikos was always pleased to new people, particularly those that came from not only all over Taengea, but from the other Grecian kingdoms as well to celebrate at the many festivals honoring the gods. Especially the ones for Dionysius and Aphrodite, Nikos’ patron god and goddess. It could get a little old spending these nights of debauchery with the same groups every year. Nikos of Condos was a man that liked adventure; routine was not adventure.
’Dear, this is one of the finest nights of my life, and I do not tend to make such assertions often.’ Nikos laughed warmly, the opium already hitting his system and making him feel that familiar floating disconnection with his body. ”Excellent!” ’What is there not to adore about the Festival of Dionysus, hm? …’ Nikos completely agreed with this notion. ”Oh, I agree. There are certain persons here that have no chance of making it to my bed. But that doesn’t stop them from trying. No matter how you might try to blow them off.” He let out an amused sigh and joined the other in his laughter. In truth there had been a few rather plain looking women that had tried to temp Nikos away from the main party to enjoy some more private time with them, but – regardless of the rumors, and despite his many past lovers – Nikos did not bed just any woman. Nik did take notice of the other man checking that his earrings were still in his ears. Snakes. Interesting. Chosen because of an interest in snakes? Or for other reasons? Family connection perhaps? Nikos’ mind wasn’t quite firing fast enough in his inebriated state to continue that line of thought.
’Tell me your name, hm? I do not like to smoke with strangers.’ Nikos reached for the pipe the other still held. ”Well, then let us not be strangers! I am Lord Nikos of Condos,” he said with a slight bow of his head. ”And you, my new friend, are …?” Nik followed with a questioning tone and gaze, leaving it open for the other to introduce himself as the baron brought the pipe to his lips.

It was not often that Mihail stumbled across somebody who shared so many of his opinions and equally did not shy away from his extravagant (and arguably rather unconventional) choice of dress. Thus far, however, he was thoroughly enjoying his conversations with this stranger, and his lips quirked into a slow smile which was only heightened by the wholly satisfactory feeling the opium began spreading through his body. He was not quite the sort whom Mihail might have willed to tug away to bed, but he was a rather fun individual with whom to spend the night.
"Of Condos!" he exclaimed, grinning as he allowed his new friend to take the pipe back once more. It was a name he knew well, though not due to any existing friendship between families. "Oh, darling, I have enjoyed so much of your wine over the years. I have it sent to Nethisa at times, you know? It is the truest nectar of the gods." After opium, Mihail supposed. One could rarely do much better than opium, as both of them were gladly enjoying together at that very moment.
His hand came forward as if to reach again for the pipe but, instead, he only stretched out his slim, ring-laden fingers, pointing them downwards and tilting his head to one side in cute greeting, as he tended to do when he wanted to flirt with someone, though that was not quite his intention at the moment. "An absolute pleasure. Lord Mihail of Thanasi. But you may call me Mimi." The dark-haired man paused thoughtfully for a long moment, his other hand slipping upwards for one finger to rest on his lips. "I think, tonight, in fact, you may call me Princess. I rather feel one this evening." He felt quite stunning, in truth. It was one of those shockingly few nights when the world was perfect, and he felt he could be himself without any fear of some small-minded other's undesired opinion.
"Do you come often?" he queried after a long moment, arching his body back to reach for the wine goblets still resting on the table beside their shared couch. He was disastrously thirsty, which he tended to find was a side-effect of the opium when he allowed himself to consume far too much — not that he minded. "This is my fourth year. Or my fifth. I do not rightfully recall." Mihail let out a twinkling laugh fuelled by his distracted state of mind, trying to think back and then giving up after deciding it was too much trouble. One of those numbers felt correct, even if he was not confident which. "It is my favourite yearly activity. Oh, but if you are keen on parties, then I do suggest you attend one of my own." Either in Colchis or here, but it did not matter. The Thanasi knew a good source of entertainment when he saw one, and Nikos certainly was one. "I do think they may even be finer than this."
That didn't feel like a stretch. The parties thrown by his family were well-known for their levels of debauchery and, if one thing was for certain, it was that the drink and the drugs would certainly be on another level to this. Besides, then Mihail could be assured the use of his beloved silver pipe, which was so much better than this one. Speaking of which... "It is my turn, I believe. I am far from high enough this evening."

’Of Condos! Oh, darling, I have enjoyed so much of your wine over the year. I have it sent to Nethisa at times, you know? It is the truest nectar of the gods.’
The exclamation of his name made Nik’s smile widen. The tone had indicated recognition, and that assumption was only confirmed when the eccentrically dressed man – and while it was certainly not a manner in which the proud Condos lord would dress, he understood and could appreciate the attention to detail that went into the look, having a habit himself of preening before the looking glass to get his own appearance just so - lounging on the couch began to praise the wine House Condos was famous for. Of course! ”Music to my ears! And such an agreeable assessment of Condos wine.” Nik let out a laugh, always ready and willing to bask in the praise of his House’s reputation.
’An absolute pleasure. Lord Mihail of Thanasi. But you may call me Mimi. … I think, tonight, in fact, you may call me Princess. I rather feel one this evening.’
Nikos took another drag from the opium pipe just as the man his new companion sat forward. He was about to hand the pipe back, thinking this was what the man was reaching for, but instead the other gave a rather feminine pose as he introduced himself. He liked his lower lip, grinning widely, a cloud of opium smoke rolling out as he exhaled. His sky-blue gaze traveled over Mihail of Thanasi – Mimi - as he took in the full sight before him. If ever Nikos were to lay with a man, it would be with one as delicate and feminine as Mimi. It’d take some high doses of opium and a fair amount of wine for a night, this one or any other, to end in such a manner, however. ”Well, then, Princess Mimi. The pleasure is entirely mine. You may call me Nik.” Nik bowed his head, coming back up with a sly yet charming grin on his face grin on his face. A smile that usually had women melting before him. If this Lord wanted to put on charms, so could he. What was the harm in innocent flirting, after all?
’Do you come often?’ ”Every year,” Nikos replied without hesitation. Seeing the other reach for his wine made the baron look around with a frown as to where he’d put his own goblet. Ah there. He leaned over Mimi’s legs in his lap and retrieved the wine glass from the floor at his feet and lifted it to his lips as he leaned back once more. ’This is my fourth year. Or my fifth. I do not rightfully recall.’ ”Really? I do wonder how we have not met before, then,” Nik mused, his own drug induced state of mind allowing his thoughts to wander momentarily. Truthfully, while Nikos made a point to make the rounds at these celebrations, he knew realistically there was bound to be people he didn’t make it to. There were so many people here, and everyone, including himself were under the influence of at least one substance. ’It is my favorite yearly activity. Oh, but if you are keen on parties, then I do suggest you attend one of my own. I do think they may even be finer than this.’
Nik chuckled. ”Sounds like a party I should definitely be a part of. I host such gatherings in Doralis a few times a year. While they are more intimate, I do aim for them to be more lavish and entertaining than this. I tend to keep it invitation only, but I can make sure the servants know to let you through the door. If you wished to ever attend.” The Doralis baron always made sure to have wonderful bards and musicians, as well as the best of Condos wine, the richest of meads, and the highest quality drugs he could get his hands on. Not to mention the food he always ordered prepared. Only the best to honor the gods of excess and creativity, and the goddess of pleasure – Nikos’ patron gods and goddess, Dionysius and Apollo and Aphrodite. Nik had a reputation to uphold, after all.
’It is my turn, I believe. I am far from high enough this evening.’ ”By all means, we can’t have that!” he responded in mock shock as he readily handed the pipe back to his new found friend.

There was something about being addressed by the title he preferred and so rarely received that made Mihail automatically grin at his new friend in the genuine manner that was not common on his face. He knew from that moment — if he had not known already — that he liked this Condos lord, and he was quite positive they were to get on swimmingly. The young Thanasi did not have many in the way of friends, and really anybody so similar to him was considered rather favourable company. Especially when they came from a family that tended to provide some, if not all, of his preferred wines.
They were flirting, in that cute way in which Mihail often found himself playing coy with others when both knew that nothing would come of it, but it was entertaining nonetheless. As if to further the game, he half-shut his eyes, watching Nikos through fluttering eyelashes instead as he repeated the suggested nickname with a taste of approval. "Nik it shall be," he replied, considering it a great honour that he should be willing to call someone else by a diminutive when he was typically so fond of the formality of full names for others.
If they had both been there almost every year, then Mihail agreed that it was a little strange that there had been no previous connection between them, but he supposed that the festival was not the best place to make any lasting connections. Although it was ideal for a few quick flings here and there, he found that he was often in too drug-induced a euphoria to remember any specific individuals the day after. "Well, I am pleased we have had the opportunity now. I shall endeavour to attend one of your parties, if you shall do me the similar honour of attending one of mine when you find you have the chance. I shall keep you on the permanent guestlist." Besides, Nikos was just the sort who would be able to provide him and the rest of his guests with an even more refined selection of wines, and Mihail would never turn down such a thing.
The Thanasi reached over to take the pipe from Nikos, happily taking a long drag as though he had been awaiting it for much longer than a few short minutes of conversation. He took his time breathing it in, waiting until he felt his body was overcome with a shiver of comfort, and Mihail found a soft smile was easing its way back onto his features.
"What are you doing at the end of this fine day?" he queried at long last, his mind drifting to the few afterparties to this event he had attended in the past. They were always almost more enjoyable than the main festival, a spectacle that Mihail attributed to the fact that all those attending had already had enough to drink and smoke that entertainment came easily to them. "I thought perhaps you could visit the Thanasi estate, hm? I want to have a second little soirée, and I would adore a few guests of your kind." The man paused, as if suddenly worried that the suggestion would be misinterpreted as romantic rather than otherwise as he intended. "Not to sound thoroughly untoward, of course. It is solely a friendly invitation."

’What are you doing at the end of this fine day?’ ”I’m not sure yet. Usually let the gods guide me to where… or to whom I should go.” He smirked in that charmingly confident manner he’d long ago perfected. He hadn’t planned for entertainment after the main festivities, but that never stopped him from continuing the party long after leaving the temple of Dionysus.
’I thought perhaps you could visit the Thanasi estate… it is solely a friendly invitation.’
”Mmm, of course.” Nik dismissed the notion that it was anything but a friendly invitation. ”That sounds deliciously perfect. I will most certainly come to you little soiree.” He drained the last of the wine in his goblet and verily pouted that his cup was empty. ”Well that is rather disappointing. I will fetch us another bottle.” Nikos slipped his arm under Mimi’s ankles, as his feet were in nik’s lap still. He lifted Mimi’s legs enough to slip out from under them and stand up before gently replacing the other man’s legs on the couch. ”I will be back with all the wine I can carry.” He winked, and laughed lightly before slipping off through the crowd.
Nik was only gone for what felt like a few minutes – though it could have been half an hour or more - when he returned carrying two bottles of Condos reds. One in each hand. ”One for you,” he said triumphantly, handing one to Mimi. ”And one for me.” Nik retook his seat, complete with Mimi’s feet in his lap. Nik reached out a hand for the opium pipe. ”My turn, my high is wearing off far too much for my liking. Looks like people are starting to leave. Has it really grown that late?”

"Oh, excellent. I am sure the staff will be able to accommodate for your presence," Mihail answered, in a tone which almost sounded as though the staff had a choice in their decisions, although it was evident that the opposite was the case. "We will have wine and opium aplenty. And, hm, anything else you desire. As I said, they should be more than capable of accommodating."
When Nikos commented on their need for more wine, the Thanasi could do nothing more than nod his approval, gladly shifting his legs to help the other in his movements, adjusting to make himself more comfortable on the couch without the other's presence. He didn't mind how long he was away, distracting himself instead by flirting instead with one of the older men drifting around the room. He offered the man a friendly invitation to his afterparty, enjoying his pipe and making drowsy conversation about how lovely Taengea was in the summer.
On Nikos's return, he blew a kiss towards his temporary interlocutor, and waved him off, smiling back at the Condos as he accepted the bottle in exchange for the pipe. "Thank you, darling. You really are spoiling me this evening — not that I mind in the slightest." Forgoing the classiness of a goblet he often favoured, Mihail sipped from his bottle, glad for the sweet and expensive taste of the drink, already aware of its outstanding quality. "Perhaps bring some of this fine wine to the afterparty. I think I want as much as you can offer me. I am willing to pay as necessary, of course."
The number of guests at the party was definitely dwindling. However, the few that had yet to leave were still as engrossed as ever, which was just the state Mihail enjoyed. Throwing a glance across the hall towards where a gap in the tall pillars gave a glimpse of the outside world, it was still difficult to tell the hour, but the night had lightened enough to suggest that they were closer to dawn than dusk. "I suppose I can call for a carriage, and we can retire to the estate. I am far too exhausted to walk, I am afraid." Mihail reached out a hand to gesture over one of the servants, ready to give the order for the carriage if his new friend were to agree.

’Thank you, darling. You really are spoiling me this evening …. Perhaps bring some of this fine wine to the afterparty … I am willing to pay as necessary, of course.’
Nikos sipped from his own wine bottle, a smirk on his lips. ”Of course. I aim to please.” It was a rumored reputation that Nikos held with the ladies that he always made sure their desires were met. ”We can draw up a purchase contract in the morning that will keep you amply supplied with our famous Condos wines.” A new friend and a new standing trade agreement? Tonight’s celebrations were certainly turning out to be productive. And his father insisted that partying all the time would never pay off. Nikos chuckled at the thought.

”Mmm, nonsense, Princess Mimi.” A bit of wine drippled down his chin as he took another hurried drink. The baron frown and wiped the droplets clear before standing and offering Mihail a helping hand to get to his feet. ”I never go to a party without a carriage waiting nearby to take me where ever the muses inspire me to go next.” He laughed languidly as he led the way out of the temple, weaving through the dwindling crowd. Once outside and down the stone steps of the temple, one of Nikos’ attendants rushed forward, ready for orders. ”I want a case of Condos wine delivered post haste to the Thansi home. I’m going there for a party, now.” His tone firm and commanding, Nikos never paused in his path towards the waiting carriage as he gave his demands. The servant bowed and rushed off follow the baron’s instructions.
Nikos stepped to the side of the carriage door being held open by another Condos servant. ”After you, my friend.” he said with a sweeping gesture to the waiting vessel.
