It was morning and Eliana had gone out early, the first one up of her siblings. It was a typical habit of her’s when she was back in Argothia. She’d leave the house before anyone was up, get breakfast outside, and wander until she had to go back to her home. It wasn’t even because Eliana disliked anyone or the thought of being in Argothia. Honestly… she sometimes missed it. The problems she had with her family, particularly with her father, didn’t overshadow her love of Argothia. The people here were colorful and eccentric. The city was beautiful and it was her home at the end of the day.
“Lady Eliana, I see you’ve come home,” Eliana heard when she entered the bakery. Her eyes moved to Adrasteia who was helping her husband with the morning rush of customers. The sweet smell of pastries and bread filled the air and caused Eliana’s stomach to rumble. “How long are you around for this time?”
“Not long, Lady Theodora and I have really hit it off. I rather like being her handmaid.” Eliana said to Adrasteia, smiling brightly. Eliana hadn’t been working long there, but she really really come to like her job. At first it was a shift. Eliana was used to being cared for not caring for someone else- unless you count her brother but that was different. Yet as the days went by she got more and more comfortable. “Can I buy some raisin bread?”
“Didn’t your servants come for it this morning? Why don’t you just eat what they get you?” Adrasteia tsked at Eliana, “Don’t you waste their work, my Lady.”
“Adrasteia,” Eliana whined giving her the biggest puppy dog eyes. “It cools by the time it reaches home. You know I like it fresh.”
“Picky girl,” Adrasteia shot Eliana a look, but her lips were curled in amusement. “Oh, very well. One moment.”
Eliana smile grew even larger, and that’s when she looked out the window. Oh, how curious. Someone was sleeping on the bench outside. Now that wasn’t necessarily rare at all in Argothia, especially early in the morning. Oh wait a minute, was that- it was! Silanos. Come to think of it, Pallas did stumble home fairly late last night. Were the two out together? Eliana was willing to bet yes.
“Water too, Adrasteia!” Eliana called leaning over the counter. She got ready her money and when she stepped outside, she made her way towards Silanos. She tilted her head for a moment. He had a pretty face, Eliana couldn’t deny. But he was too much like Pallas, and thus her interest in him was nil. He was, at least, fun.
She tilted the cup of water so it streamed slowly out of the cup and onto Sil’s face. That would wake him up. Then she went to the end of the bench where his feet were and sat next to them. “Mornin’!” Eliana said chipperly, as she split the raisin bread in half and offered a portion to Sil. “Breakfast?” She asked before taking a bite of her half.

Silanos was dead to the world. On a bench, nonetheless, in the middle of the town. Sprawled haphazardly across it, when the trickle of cold water hit his face, there was a pause before the lord’s eyes snapped open.
It wasn’t a pleasant way to be awoken, the water running over his face and down his neck to soak into his chiton, and even less enjoyable was the unforgivably bright light that was quite literally burning his eyes out of his head.
“Fuck!” came the sleepy exclamation as Sil lifted an arm and rolled over in an attempt to avoid both the light and the stream of water. “Fuck!” came the mightily disgruntled reaction as he rolled clean off the bench to land in a heap on the floor.
Not a nice way to wake up, no.
For a moment, Silanos lay very still because of things [i[hurt[/i] and maybe he was actually dead or dying. There was a sharp pain in his head, and he cracked one eye open again to see the very blue sky where he was pretty sure there should be a ceiling. It was confusing. “What the…” Squinting, he forced himself to open his eyes fully again, wiping a hand over his face which was inexplicably wet and trying to figure out where in gods name he was.
‘Mornin’! Breakfast?’ came a disembodied voice, and Silanos twisted his neck and blinked until a familiar face came blearily into focus.
“Mmnf” It was, as fas as greetings went, fairly unique, but Sil hadn’t yet caught up to why his friend’s younger sister was talking at him into that all too chipper voice. He pushed up to sitting and glanced around them, nonplussed and pressing a hand to his head which was pounding mercilessly. The same hand came to settle miserably over his face a moment later as he groaned again. Right then, the dark depths of Tartarus seemed like a welcome prospect to compared to the bright, hideous sunshine and chirpiness of his morning company. Which was a question in itself….why was Eliana there? He squinted at her, pretty sure she hadn’t been part of the night before. When he’d decided he wouldn’t throw up imminently and spied the now empty cup on the bench beside the young woman, Silanos glared at her.
“Where’s your idiot brother?” he griped after a moment as his slightly bloodshot eyes found Eliana again. “Shouldn’t you be somewhere annoying him?”
He wasn’t entirely sure how he’d lost Pallas, only that he’d been there for at least some portion of the evening. Sil eyed the raisin bread that had been thrust in his direction and shook his head, a thing he immediately regretted as it set his head to throbbing again.
“What time is it?”

He had rolled off the bench, causing Eliana’s lips to press together in amusement to keep from laughing. It’d be rather uncouth for her to laugh right now; She had a mouth full of bread after all. Instead she just tilted her head as she continued to chill and watch Silanos as he came to the world.
A proper lady would be aghast to hear swears such as that coming form a noble’s mouth. But Eliana was no proper lady (maybe being raised with no mother for nearly half her life was to blame for that?) and so his reaction only brought a snort from the girl. As he rejected the bread, Eliana shrugged. His loss, really. He should have something in his stomach.
Where’s your idiot brother? At least Eliana wasn’t the only one to think him an idiot. “My idiot brother’s asleep in his bed, so you have to deal with being annoyed by me this morning. Speaking of bed, if you didn’t want to stay at the Kassotis house all you had to do was say that. We’d had been happy to see that the inn had a place for you to stay.” Eliana teased Silanos, as she took a second bite of her bread.
When he asked for the time Eliana looked at the sky. The was a quarter of the way in the sky- it wouldn’t be midday for a good few hours yet. And sunrise was… a little over two hours ago? “I would say around 9?” Eliana said, her eyebrows furrowing at the sun. She blinked several times before looking back at Silanos, ignoring the little black circles floating in her vision now. “Sunrise was maybe two and a half hours ago. I would say we have about 3 hours until midday. Why? Too early for you?”
It was far too early for Pallas. He wouldn’t be awae until midday unless someone else in her family managed to get him out of bed. Eliana… used to do that. Not anymore. Her family could worry about themselves.
Anyway. Enough of that. Eliana shook the other half of the bread in her grip. “Eat, Sil. You need something in your stomach in order to feel better. Having an empty stomach won’t stop you from vomiting anyhow. I’ve seen people puke up water before.” And boy was it gross. Eliana would instinctively gag when she saw someone else getting sick. So she really didn’t want to see Sil get sick.
Eliana finished her half and patted the seat in the bench next to her. “I’d be willing to bet that this bench is much more comfy than the floor, but the likelihood that you still have your coin purse after sleeping all night on a bench is fairly slim.” If he did still have it- she’d be shock. She just hoped he wasn’t the type to carry all his money with him. Otherwise that would be… bad. And Eliana was not going to recommend going to her father for a loan.

Silanos was trying to recall the night before, attempting to make some sense of how he’d ended up on a fucking bench of all places. He didn’t have a great relationship with sleep. In that it was more he tried not to, but occasionally it caught up with him, and he had to. Maybe he’d pushed it too far this time? At least he’d been drunk enough to have passed out, not to have dreamt.
“Very funny” he muttered, rolling out the kinks in his neck which had formed from sleeping on such a hard, unrelenting surface. He wondered how it came to be that Pallas had found his way home, but he hadn’t. He pulled a face when Eliana made her best guess at the time. It was way too fucking early, but he knew he would need to take something to either knock him out properly or just keep going now. Gross.
“Yes, it’s too fucking early. And I could have done without the shower too, thanks” He grumbled, thinking about getting up off the floor and then feeling exhausted just at the thought of it. Eyeing the bread, she was shaking in front of his face he wished she’d stop fussing. He didn’t want to talk about vomiting. Or think about it. It felt like tempting fate.
Mostly to get her to shut up, he took the bread, broke a piece off and shoved it in his mouth. He thought if he just choked a bit down, she might at least be quiet a few moments, but to his surprise, it wasn’t an entirely horrible experience eating it. It almost made his rolling stomach feel a little less like it was about to hop up on out of his mouth and so he begrudgingly chewed and swallowed the rest of it, heaving himself up to flop down next to her as he did.
A dismal patting down of his chiton revealed he was without his coin, but Sil squinted into the distance as he tried to remember if hed even had any left once they’d left the cardhouse. Or the whorehouse. Wherever the fuck they’d been last. He hoped it had been worth it. He scrubbed a hand over his face and then through his hair, leaving it sticking up at odd angles. Not that the lord seemed to care overmuch.
“I blame your brother,” Sil said, side eyeing Eliana. “It hardly seems fair that he ended up in a nice comfy bed, still asleep, while I’m here] getting bullied by his little sister. Though thanks for this” He lifted what remained of the raisin bread. “Why on earth are you up and about so early anyway?”

So grumpy! Eliana couldn’t help but giggle. “What, would you have preferred something more gentle? Sil, my sweetheart, whatever are you doing sleeping on a bench? Could you pretty please open your eyes? I’d be ever so gracious,” Eliana was teasing him, but much like she would do with her brother she lifted her hand and tried to at least somewhat quell the mess that was his hair. “You’d have been unhappy no matter what I did, Sil. At least I did wake you. If someone like Esdras found you I guarantee he’d been more of an asshole just to have a good laugh.” Though- it wasn’t like Eliana wasn’t having a good laugh herself.
She put her hands down and merely nodded when he thanked her for the rasin bread. “Me? A bully? Lord Silanos I am aghast!” She over dramatically put a hand to her heart, but her lips were wide in a smile. “Never in all my years have I been so insulted! How will I go on?” Even Eliana couldn’t help but roll her eyes at her own performance.
When he asked about why she was up so early Eliana hesitated. She was always a morning person, happy to leave the house and explore, especially recently having missed Argothia so much. But that wasn’t the full story. She’d often stay up late into the night listening for her father’s return home. And she’d find herself waking up, hearing the echo of the curtain rod as it beat into the man, the ghost of her nightmare. All in all, when it came to Argothia no longer was it a nice place to sleep.
“Habit. Being Lady Theodora’s handmaiden has gotten me quite used to early hours,” Eliana lied, not particularly untrue. She had to be up when the other handmaidens were up, far before when Lady Theodora first opens her eyes. She would have to see to it that her breakfast was made properly, and that her clothes were correctly picked for the day’s events. Eliana was always the first awake and the last to sleep in the Leventi home… and evidently the same could be say at the Kassotis.
But enough with that, she didn’t want Sil prying somewhere he didn’t belong. So she stood up, offering her hand out so as to help lift him from the bench, should he want it. “C’mon. Let’s get you some more water. It’ll help. I’ll cover for you. Just promise if you see my brother act like we didn’t run into each other. I don’t want him to use this as an excuse to cozy up to my friends.” The reality was, she just didn’t want to be too involved in his life right now. She didn’t want to be too involved in anyone’s life. Eliana wanted to mind her own business and be a good handmaiden. But also… she couldn’t just ignore Sil as he slept on the bench in the middle of the public square. “And maybe a stop by the springs.”

Sil thought he would have much preferred the alternative wake up that Eliana spoke of, and his unimpressed look left her in no doubt of the fact. He didn’t recoil from her hand in his hair though, more than used to her fussing. Blue eyes that were still heavy with sleep were shadowed with too many similar nights gone before, and the lord stifled a yawn as he let her try and tame the dishevelled mop atop his head.
“Alright, fine, I’ll give you that” he conceded, because yes, of all the people that could have found him spark out on a bench in the middle of Argothia, Eliana was probably the most forgiving. “Though you could hide your amusement better” he grumbled, shielding his eyes from the sun again. “It’s so fucking bright.”
And even her mock offence was so loud, and Sil wanted to curl up in a ball and just not move again. He groaned quietly. This time of the day was meant for dull people who did nothing interesting with their evenings, and certainly not for Silanos, who leant toward the nocturnal. That Eliana was voluntarily up and about was unfathomable to the Colchian lord, and he squinted at her as she explained her reasons.
“Oh yeah. I forgot you have your little job. How’s that going?” He didn’t understand why the girl had taken the position, it wasn’t like she needed the money, but Sil also knew the Lady Theodora was hot and he slanted a glance toward his friend, the edge of a grin at his lips. “Don’t suppose you want to introduce me to your new boss, do you? Blessed she may be, but she hasn’t yet been blessed with my company so surely her life is lacking”
When Eliana stood and held out her hand as if to encourage him to do the same, the young lord eyed it with some dismay. “Must we?” he muttered, even as his hand took her hers and he got up, swaying only the littlest bit as he came to standing. Water sounded...reasonably appealing though, for now she mentioned it, Sil realised that his mouth felt like something had crawled in there and died. Gross.
He blinked, a little confused at why she’d want him to keep this secret from Pallas, but gave a shrug as agreement. “Sure, whatever. Never saw you.”
And the baths definitely sounded like a good idea. Silanos wasn’t one to fuss overmuch about his appearance, but even he could admit that last nights booze and gods knows what else was not a flattering aroma. “You gonna come wash my back for me?” he asked, a reflex reaction even though he and Eliana had long gotten past the point where he bothered trying to flirt with her.
They ambled lazily through the streets: or at least, Sil ambled, and Eliana was forced to adjust her pace so as not to leave him behind. His head was throbbing, some hideous punishment that he could make no sense of. Dionysus was a cruel god to so torture those who tried to honour him justly.
As they walked, he was blearily sorting through the flashes of memory from the night before and frowned as he tried to figure out where a cat in an urn had come into it. Huh. He had a vague recollection of arguing with Pallas that he’d talked himself into a freebie with one of the Heterae. Maybe that was where they’d parted company. Sil’s brow creased as he tried to piece together the jumbled snippets that he could remember. Oh well. He was alive and not too worse for wear save for this miserable hangover, so whatever had happened, it had not been so terrible. “Are we there yet?” he asked, all too aware of how plaintive a whine it sounded and not caring in the slightest.

To other, confused women Silanos in their presence might make them think it was a blessing. The Lord was handsome and charming. But the more you got to know him, the more pain in the ass he turned out to be. He reminded Eliana of Pallas in so many ways. Maybe that was why, despite everything, she was rather fond of her brother’s friend. Don’t misconstrue that fondness, he was still a nuisance. But a fun nuisance, and a touch more palatable than Pallas.
But whatever Eliana’s thoughts were in Silanos, they weren’t quite as endearing enough to introduce him to Theodora. Fuck no. Eliana valued her job and her friendship with Theodora far too much to risk Silanos being anywhere close to her. Nope, not happening.
After helping him to his feet, she focused back on their previous conversation. “How would I ever be able to introduce the two of you when your ego is so large I’m afraid it won’t fit through the door.” Eliana rolled her eyes, but then she turned towards Silanos, finger in his face. “Under no circumstances are you to meet Lady Theodora. And when you evidently ignore my command,” Because he is her brother’s friend, “you are to act like we never met. You don’t know me. I don’t know you. We’re strangers. Got it? Good.”
With that settled, it was to the springs they went. Eliana could use a bath herself- not because she was dirty or anything of course not. It was relaxing and comfortable. Though at Silanos’s sad excuse for a flirt, Eliana rolled her eyes. “Sure, Sil. I’ll make sure to scrub extra hard. Get all that dead skin peeling from your back, pop any pimples I see back there. Do you have a mole on your back? I’ll be sure to pluck that hair too. Anything for you.”
With that, they walked. Well no- walking would be faster than the pace they were going. Was stroll a better word? Meander? Between them, silence fell. Eliana could only be so sarcastic. She knew that Silanos’s hangover would be horrible, and she could empathize with the pain. She has had awful hangovers herself that made her wish to die and to quit drinking- both of which she never did. Clearly.
“We’d be there if you didn’t move so slowly,” Eliana said as she hooked her arm with Sil’s arm. “We’re almost there. They sell water there too. I’ll buy a bunch, you take your bath, and then we’ll get you to the Kassotis house where you can think about kicking my brother’s ass for leaving you.” Before he realizes that’s too much effort and goes on suffering alone. Though they did have a nice tea at the house that Eliana always found helps with hangovers too.
When they arrived at the springs, Eliana paid for entrance for Sil and herself, and a bunch of water for the man. They had different oils that were sold for the rich as well which were infused with different herbs. Eliana purchased one of those and held it towards the noble. “Smell, it always helps with my headache.” She instructed. “Deep breath.”

They had different oils that were sold for the rich as well which were infused with different herbs. Eliana purchased one of those and held it towards the noble. “Smell, it always helps with my headache.” She instructed. “Deep breath.”
Silanos was hanging so hard he couldn’t even find it within himself to be terribly offended at Eliana’s response about introducing him to Theodora of Leventi. “Fuck you” he muttered. “Just because you have awful taste” It was lame as far as a retort went, but he really wasn’t on his game, and she was wagging her finger in his face like she was serious about him keeping his distance. Sil shrugged, there were plenty of other Leventi in the sea after all.
“Who’d want to be associated with you anyway” he muttered, ruffling her hair in a way that he knew would aggravate.
There was a reason, after all, that he was friends with Pallas first and foremost. Eliana was tolerable, could even be fun sometimes, but she had these funny lines that she drew and it was more effort than Sil was willing to put in to try and understand them. Pallas spoke his language.
That and Eliana just had a way with words that managed to puncture his dreams over and again. He pulled a face at her as she completely derailed his bathhouse fantasies for no good reason.
“Wow. You literally kill the sexiness in anything don’t you” he griped, shooting her a look. “It’s no wonder you’re single. One day, when I’m less close to death, I can help you with your affliction.”
Close to death might have sounded dramatic, but Sil didn’t think it was too much. His body was just one giant ache after lying on a stone bench for however many hours, and his stomach had decided perhaps it wasn’t so fond of the raisin bread after all. He clamped his mouth shut in the hope that it would settle down and not make a grim reappearance, and for a while, he just concentrated on making his feet move.
It was only when he was certain that he wasn’t going to puke that he woefully enquired as to how long their walk was to last. Eliana’s too-cheery response and the jostling of his poor head as she took his arm didn’t make him feel better, but the premise of water and sinking up to his neck in warm water did. The steam would help him sweat out the wine. He was almost certain that’s all that was running through his veins right now.
“How about you kick his ass for me and I’ll lie on a kline and watch” he suggested amiably as they finally reached the bathhouse. Out of it enough just to go where he was pointed, Silanos leant in to sniff the vial Eliana offered up and was surprised that the minty, woody aroma did manage to cut through the cotton stuffed in his head. “Huh” he responded eloquently, before neatly snatching the vial away. He’d be keeping that one.
The bathhouse was not segregated, but Sil was unphased. He stripped off with the speed of someone well-practised and wandered into the steaming baths with a groan of satisfaction before sinking down against one of the edges. He didn’t even bother to try and take a peek as Eliana undressed to join him, eyes drifting closed until he realised that there was a real risk of drowning if he carried on like that.
Lifting his head from where it had flopped back on the lip of the pool, Sil lifted an eyebrow towards Eliana as she sank below the water. “Oh look, you do have a body under there after all. Not bad…”

Not bad…”

Lifting his head from where it had flopped back on the lip of the pool, Sil lifted an eyebrow towards Eliana as she sank below the water. “Oh look, you do have a body under there after all. Not bad…”
The way the two talked was odd, even by Eliana’s standards. An occasional flirt (by Silanos) mixed with insults between the two. It was almost sibling-like, but not quite. It was more… comfortable. Eliana was never phased by Silanos, and thus he made it to the top of the list when it came to Pallas’s friends- even if he was certainly not a good influence on her brother. And he ruffled Eliana’s hair when he knew more than anything that annoyed her the most. Jerk.
She had whacked him in the shoulder when they did that and continued on their way. Of course, she could not let the one day when I’m less close to death, I can help you with your affliction go un-retorted. “Oh, will you be sober? Is that even possible for you?” Hint: The answer is no.
He did seem to appreciate the oil she bought, enough so that he snatched the vial right from her hands. Eliana shook her head amused and got one for herself- a lavender scented one that was her very favorite. This would be a good bath. Even if it was shared with Silanos.
Some people might have qualms getting in a bath that wasn’t segregated by gender, but Eliana wasn’t those type of people. Baths were baths, there was nothing inappropriate about it. To say she didn’t glance at Silanos’s naked body would be a lie, though. He’d almost be her type if he didn’t, you know, act the way he did. Almost.
She sunk into the water and felt her shoulders relax, This was nice- it really was. The earth below really warmed the waters, and the smell of oils and nature soothed the lady. She almost forgot she was here- with Silanos. Almost.
Oh look you do have a body under there after all. Not bad. “I guess I don’t kill the sexiness in anything after all, hm?” Eliana said with a raised eyebrow. Though she did gather water under her hand and sent a big splash at Silanos. “Now don’t be weird. I quite enjoy just relaxing when I’m taking a bath. Speaking of which…”
Eliana made her way closer to Sil not stopping until she was right next to him. Her eyes never once move down, completely uphased that the two were stark naked right in front of her. She just twirled her finger, gesturing for him to turn around. “I will get your back, and I promise not to make it all gross.” That was more a promise to herself than to Sil- she had no interest in popping pimples or rooting dead skin. “But you slept all night outside, you’re not stepping inside the Kassoitis house until you’re shimmering.”
She leaned past him to the oil that was left on the stone behind him, gathering some in her hand. “And I’m doing something with your hair. That’s your payment to me for all my help- I don’t have to look at that mess all day. Now go on. Spin.”

It really wasn’t fair for him to be trying to trade barbs with Eliana. He wasn’t at his best, and it showed, because she was outdoing him, and that was almost more miserable than the hangover. He didn’t have a comeback for the dig at him never being sober, and it irritated the fuck out of him all the way to the bathhouse.
And then when they were in the bath, it was distracting that she actually looked pretty good which wasn’t a concept he wanted to try and wrap his head around at that point. He didn’t even manage to dodge the splash of water that she sent at him, just blinked as the water ran down his face in rivulets.
“I’m not the one making it weird,” Sil said, though he was a little bemused that she would expect him not to notice her being naked and stuff right next to him. It didn’t get any less odd when she wandered right over to where he’d parked himself and made a motion for him to turn around.
Silanos did it but only because he was pretty much eye level with her breasts and there was no way that wasn’t going to become a thing otherwise. “Right because your dog of a brother hasn’t already dragged home way more grossness than I might bring” he drawled, just about biting off the story that nearly spilt out. Pallas wouldn’t thank him for that.
And he made a vague ‘whatever’ gesture about his hair, would’ve rolled his eyes except the thought made his eyeballs ache. “Do what you want but hurry up about it at least.”
He made himself available to her then and tried not to fall asleep with the combined heat of the baths and the - dare he say it - relaxing motion of her hands. At least until she dug her fingers into a knot of muscle in his shoulder and he yelped and pulled away, turning an offended look upon her.
“Wow. I pity poor Lady Theodora if she gets a similar sort of mangling” he sniped, rubbing absently at the sore spot. Only then his thoughts wandered to that scenario and he side-eyed Eliana, smirking before he’d even said. “Do you take baths together? That’s an interesting visual that even you wouldn’t spoil.”
Before she could answer Silanos shuffled down enough to submerge himself in the water, coming up with it running in rivulets down his face and plastering his hair to his forehead in a wet thatch. Still, it felt good after the grimy feeling of having slept outside all night, and he flopped back against the edge of the baths and yawned widely before chugging one of the cups of water provided like he hadn’t drunk in six months. Urgh, he still felt fucking hideous. He pushed upright with a sigh.
“Alright. Do the hair because I reckon you have a small window before I doze off and drown and it’ll be your fault.”

All Eiana could do was snort when he said right because your dog of a brother hasn’t already dragged home way more grossness than I might bring. That was, in fact, very true. The pair was likely thinking of different stories, and Eliana had absolutely no interest in knowing what story Sil knew. It probably wouldn’t surprise Eliana, at this point nothing could, but she knew ignorance was bliss. Oh, how Eliana knew that…
“Cranky, cranky. A thank you would suffice.” Eliana tutted as she began to wash his back. She was meticulous and careful as she rubbed the oil onto it and watched as the dirt and sweat fell away and clean skin surfaced. She noticed as she was rubbing it in that he was particularly tense around the shoulders. A night sleeping on a bench would do that to a person. Still- that mixed from stress caused knots that she tried to rub out. She succeeded, for the most part, she thought… until he suddenly yelped and turned away.
“Oh quit being a baby, Sil,” she said at the same time he was making a comment about Theodora. Eliana rolled her eyes- of course, he’d imagine the women together. He was so much like her brother (not including the part of imagining Eliana- that was all Sil) that it hurt sometimes. Gross.
Before she could even react to that (which likely would have been another splash and a quip) he was underneath the surface and when he emerged he looked almost like some swamp thing with his unruly hair plastered onto his face. Eliana’s teeth sunk into her cheek to bite back a giggle. He… looked silly. But she was to be annoyed with him, and stoic. Maintaining that was more important than giggling at Sil.
“Oh it would be my fault. You’re not one to take responsibility for your actions, are you, my Lord?” Eliana said despite knowing that answer. Absolutely fucking not. She leaned to gather more soap and rubbed it between her hands before slowly massaging it into his scalp. Suds started to form as she lathered his hair with it.
“You know, you really should let one of our maids cut it. She’s very good, and your hair has gotten far too overgrown,” Eliana commented as she tried her best to get a handle on it. She cupped some water to wash some of the soap out, just to put some more in to make sure it was very clean, soft, and easy to play with once dry. “I might even call you handsome if you let her do that. I know, that’s all you’ve ever wanted to hear from me. A dream come true. I aim to please.”
Finally, once she finished she sighed, stepping back from Sil and grabbing her own oils to wash herself with. “Go on, relax now. Though, if you do drown would you prefer your body be sent back to your family, or would you rather we just bury you somewhere here and spare them any heartache?”

Silanos thought he’d earned the right to be cranky. It felt as if Hephaestus himself was hammering away inside his head, and he’d been rudely awoken after passing out on the steeet, abandoned by his partner in crime and with a severe case of ‘how the fuck did that happen’. But he did quieten his whining for a few moments and might have leant back into her hands. People paid for this shit; he was damn well going to make the most of getting it for free.
At least until Eliana decided it was the perfect opportunity to torture him by sticking her pokey fingers into his shoulder like she was playing at being a masseuse only had hooves instead of hands, and any enjoyment was ruined.
When he resurfaced from his full body dunking, Silanos didn’t bother to complain at her remarks. He had absolutely no interest in taking responsibility for anything, thank you very much. That was why he was in Taengea at all. He gave an unapologetic shrug and then ducked down, so Eliana didn’t have to reach so far to mess with his hair, screwing his eyes shut against the soapy water.
“I’m not about to let one of your maids scalp me” he grumbled, pulling a face at the water that got in his mouth when he spoke. When she indicated she was done, he slicked it back from his face and grinned at Eliana as she went on.
“Oh, come on. You think that anyway. It's adorable.”
When she shooed him away, he went happily, plonking himself down on one of the carved stone benches beneath the waterline and stretching his arms along the stone edge of the pool. The girl’s next words, spoken in jest, nevertheless settled a bit uncomfortably with the Colchian lord. His family had been through enough heartache, he thought. But he smiled and made a rude gesture with his hand because that what she’d be expecting, and then settled his head back and closed his eyes, trying to decide if it was off-limits to imagine the visuals to accompany the sounds of her washing.
Hmm. Maybe.
Easier to doze instead, and the young lord had drifted off by the time his companion was done, blinking back awake and almost as disorientated as when he’d first come to. Still, he blearily staggered from the bath and redressed, drinking another cup of water as he went.
Rubbing at his hair with one of the drying cloths did not do much for it, but Sil wasn’t the one offended by it, after all, so once he was dressed and dry and meandered over to where Eliana was repinning her fibulae and tugged on the end of her braid.
“You done?”

The bath was done in silence after that. Eliana would have been surprised had she not looked over and saw his eyes closed and Sil seemingly drifted off to sleep. Eliana knew she should wake him, lest her joke becomes an actual reality. But Silanos was a man who looked like he was in constant need of sleep. Eliana elected instead to allow him to rest, only occasionally looking over to check that he didn’t sink under.
It’s not easy for him to sleep, is it? More than a few times now when Eliana glanced over his face was screwed up like he was suffering some sort of nightmare. Eliana was fairly new to nightmares herself, and really only suffered them when she was back in Argothia. Was this why Silanos always appeared tired? Or was this simply a coincidence? It wasn’t… Eliana’s business to question this further. She averted her gaze and continued quickly with her bath.
Once finished Eliana went back to Sil’s side once more. This time she was gentle (pouring water on one’s face while in a bath seemed counter-intuitive) and placed a hand on his arm. “Sil, time to wake up.” She said softly, before climbing out of the bath. She grabbed a drying cloth, threw her hair into a braid, and was just putting on the rest of her clothes when Sil meandered towards her.
You done? He asked as he tugged the end of her braid. Eliana tried to scowl at him, but her amusement betrayed her. “Your hair is impossible, isn’t it?” It didn’t look dry, merely messy, and Eliana instinctively tried to quell it again. “Why am I even bothering?”
She shouldn’t, and once again she lowered her hands to her side. This was a nice way to start off the day- even if Silanos could be a prick. Of course Eliana would never tell him that. No, she had her pride, and besides. He was Pallas’s friend, not her’s. Lines were to be distinctly drawn.
Eliana gave Sil an obvious look over. She couldn’t tell if he was better or the same- which upon retrospect is pretty sad. “Are you okay, by the way? Do you… feel a bit better? I could have let you sleep more.” But he didn’t seem to be enjoying it all that much, “But I didn’t want you to get all pruney.” She decided to say instead.
“Not that I succeed,” she said as she reached over to his hand and looked at his palm. His finger tips looked shriveled like little hills. So did her’s, in fact. “Has anyone ever told you you have big hands by the way?”
“Anyway,” Eliana released her grip from his wrist and took a step back, giving him space. “What’s your plan now?” Eliana asked him, raising an eyebrow. “You got the whole day ahead of you. Not often you have that, do you?” Cracking a smile, she looked towards the exit. “Do you even know how to function during daylight hours?”

Sil thought his hair was just fine, and he told Eliana so before giving a smug little shrug when she too gave up on trying to do anything with it. He did alright with it the way it was, thank you very much. “Well you know, you’re the only one I hear complaining about it. In fact...whose that little friend of yours, the blonde one? She was a fan. Couldn’t keep her hands out of it. Until they were busy elsewhere, you know what I’m saying?”
He broke off with an obnoxious wink before chugging another cup of water and then dropping the bronze chalice back on to the tray with a clang. He paused and raised a brow when Eliana gave him a slow once over, wondering for a moment what motivated her concern. Had he...sometimes he didn't sleep good, and the nightmares woke him up, but he didn't think he’d been deep enough under for that to happen. He fucking hoped he hadn’t embarrassed himself.
Brazening it out, Sil stepped up and draped a casual arm over the girl’s shoulders, waving his pruney fingers in her face. “I’m fine as much fine as I can be with wine in my veins instead of blood. Take me to the temple; we can offer it to Dionysus” But then she made her comment about big hands, and Sil sighed dramatically at being handed such an opportunity. It almost hurt him to say “Well you know what they say about big hands.”
Never mind that it was wasted on his friend’s little sister. Mores the pity.
He let her move away, tilting his head a little and considering her next words, because honestly, no. He wasn’t accustomed to being up and about at such an ungodly hour, and he didn’t have a plan, which was easily rectified.
“I don’t” he agreed. “And its all thanks to you. So...I’ll just tag along with you for a bit until Pallas wakes his lazy as up and then he can apologise profusely for leaving me to sleep on a fucking bench. How does that sound? I know, you’re welcome.”
Another yawn and they'd ambled out into the daylight once again, Silanos squinting at the suddenly bright light. He looked marginally less grey and death-like that he had when she’d first woken him, but the smudged shadows beneath his eyes were still there, and then there was the hair… Oh well.
“What’s the plan then, Lady Kassotis? How do you even spend your days anyway?”

“What’s the plan then, Lady Kassotis? How do you even spend your days anyway?”
When he made the comment about her blond friend Eliana’s eyes narrowed. He sounded more and more like her brother by the second and it was infuriating. Ugh, and this was exactly why Silanos would never be introduced to Lady Theodora if Eliana had anything to say about it. Ugh, men were pigs.
Next thing Eliana knew Sil’s arm was casually around Eliana’s shoulder, brazen as could be. He waved his fingers in front of her face, making her nose wrinkle in annoyance as she batted them away. “I might take you up on that offer to Dionysius. Ready to be sacrificed,” Eliana stuck her tongue out at Sil and elbowed him away, taking a few steps forward before turning back towards him.
And then he said something Eliana hadn’t expected. Part of her wanted to inwardly groan, the other part didn’t mind all that much. He was joining her for the day? Eliana was thinking this would be where they split up. Honestly, she half expected Sil to go sniff out more alcohol, or head back to the Kassotis and crash on the guest bed. Now she had to entertain him? Fuck.
“Well the plan was to stay away from you but that failed,” Eliana glanced around as she went outside. She had been thinking about doing some shopping at the market. But honestly, that was just to waste of time and not really something she was looking forward to doing. She could see if anyone around town needed help with something. Eliana enjoyed helping. She met interesting people and did interesting things. And yet… that wasn’t something she really wanted to do too.
Eliana wanted to spend the day… lazily. Oh! She knew what to do! Eliana perked up and pointed at a large forested hill a little ways away. “It’s a bit of a hike, but at the top of the hill, there’s this really pretty meadow and a really nice view. I was thinking about lazing around there today. I sometimes stop at the market and look for fresh fruits and cheeses and some wine, and then climb up to the top there. You could join me. But you have to promise not to make it weird.” This was not a date. And if he dared to joke about it she was going to hit him.
She hadn’t really told anyone about her spot before. It wasn’t a secret. It wasn’t some sacred place that Eliana escaped to. But, well, she just never thought to bring someone up there. She had discovered it as a young teenager when she thought the best way of rebelling against her classes was to just not go to them and find something fun to do instead. She had gotten in trouble, but the discovery was worth it.
“Or you can go off and try to find that blond friend of mine. But seeing as you can’t even remember her name, I don’t think that would work out well.” Eliana poked his arm. “Or we can sacrifice you. But I think you’re sobering up enough to be worth it. Besides, you probably know the best wine to buy.”
