Georgios had spent the boat ride from one island to the next standing against the railing of the ship. A small smile crept on to his lips as they were quickly approaching the place that would be called his own. Life was coming together for the young man. He had a beautiful wife that although wasn’t his first choice, he was learning to love and cherish for own merits. He had always been able to make a light shine through any situation and his marriage was what was expected of him. He would make it work. Evelli would be coming to settle in and nest before the baby is born once Georgios had a look over his barony and was able to look at the furnishing in the manor. He could not wait for the baby to be born and bless his family. They were able to procreate quickly and hopefully they would be able to show what their worth was to the family.
The sea air was revitalizing as he watched the docking carefully. Hands patted on the railing in quick spurts as his excitement of the lands before him was hard to contain. ”Fotios! Fotios! Look! Isn’t it grand?” He moved down the deck of the ship as he looked out at the rolling hills, the winding paths, and all else the eye could see from their current vantage point. It may not have been the largest of the baronies to inherit. But, Georgios was already convinced that it was the most beautiful. The picturesque landscape of green against a backdrop of snowy mountains. It was the stuff of epic poems.
”Hurry, hurry.” His hand moved in a gesture as they were preparing the plank for disembarking the ship. Some might have seemed him on the tad childish side, but this was the biggest gift he had ever been granted. He was going to rule with kindness and optimism and the people were going to thrive for the good of Taengea on a whole. The path was set forth and Georgios was the first down it as he moved to land in a province he had never been to. He should have, perhaps, he thought considering it had always been Leventi land. ”Brother, who had it before me? Do you remember?” Details of the past and the family were more Fotios’ than anything the middle one could memorize.
His long arm pulled a gesture into the sky as he put an arm around a random stranger on the dock. He had not a care in the world for what was expected of him. He was one of those stereotypical, touchy Taengeans and he wasn’t about to change it. The tall, lean Leventi gave a glance one way and then the next. ”Horses!” His demand was likely an easy one to meet given the main export of Macendia was, in fact, horses. They littered the landscape and they were all his - in theory.
A pair were lead forward for the pair of Leventi brothers. No one would dare to defy the grandest of grand families. They were the reason the province had jobs, the reason they all had food on their tables. If it weren’t for the very impressive horses that stood before them, the land would have less value. He hoisted himself up on the steed with a look over his shoulder to Fotios. A large grin still plastered on his face. He probably looked silly, but Georgios didn’t much care for what others thought of him.
”I think I will be happy here with Evelli. And our baby… when he or she joins us.” He was different than most. He had no insistence that his baby was going to be a boy. Georgios just want the baby to be healthy and his wife to survive the birth. Those were the little steps he was looking forward to. It was an interesting break from his usual only thinking of the present.

By the age of nineteen, Fotios was hardly the worked, worn and polished mind that he was in his forties. He was, however, very much like his older self in his mannerisms. Calm, collected, with a demeanour that screamed languid wealth and confident social context... He was a man sure of his place in the world - not only currently in where he stood but in his visions of the future.
One day, he had been assured by his father multiple times... one day the Leventi family would be the most powerful family in Greece. And Fotios had been educated, challenged, tutored and screamed at until he had - by the time he neared the end of his second decade - become the Head of the Leventi House ahead of his time.
Dressed in a tunic common in younger men such as himself and his brother, the chiton cut off at the knees and folded across both shoulders, leaving his arms bare. A himation of Leventi purple had been folded and band from left shoulder to right hip and trailed down several inches lower. His sandals were strapped to knees and his belt and dagger scabbard hung at his waist. The blade itself was in his hand where he had been sharpening it with a borrowed wet stone from one of the sailors.
Sheathing the knife and - as their father was not in attendance - shouldering his bow, Fotios fastened his short quiver to the opposite side of his waist and then moved across the deck to join his brother who was behaving like an infant.
His mouth quirked up in a half smile at Georgios' enthusiasm as he was told to look and behold over the land he had been made baron of by their father. Land that was some of the richest and most fertile (if not the largest) in the Leventi holdings.
"I see it, brother." Fotios answered the man as he couldn't seem to drag his gaze away from the lush greenery to make any real conversation.
As the ship pulled into port on the Macendia isle, the disembarkment plank was brought into place and the two brothers headed down the wooden slope and onto the main thoroughfare of the sailors.
To call it a port was a little extravagant, given that the space in question was like a three-foot-wide bridge that ended nowhere but the water. It only held enough space for a fixing rig either side of it and their larger sailing vessel dwarfed everything by far, only half of its keel able to line up alongside the "dock".
Such miniature features, however, did not seem to faze Georgios as he immediately sought them out transportation.
Unlike his brother, Fotios did not cling or appreciate physical contact. Their father had often said he was more Athenian than Taengean give his austere performance and respect for personal space. His brother was out and out Leventi - despite disgusting rumours in the Senate - and had an apparently love and affection for all.
Fotios rolled his eyes at the exuberance the man presented and, instead of interfering, he simply answered his brother's questions as the man Georgios had assaulted moved to find the creatures they would need to vision upon the Macendia mountain.
"Lord Farrus of Ganos." He answered the man. "Never married, no offspring. The House was relegated after his passing and returned to father's stock three years ago. Juno, Lumis and Xanon before him."
Fotios wasn't showing off in his memory of the land ownership papers of Macendia. The man rarely took a moment to be outwardly arrogant or seek praise and attention. He had been taught from a young age that leaders and rulers never sought attention. They earned it by keeping their sense of self within. Causing others to seek. Not to give them what they might be curious of before an interest could develop. It was about holding all the cards and being the one to offer a glance at their opposing sides.
Instead, the words that left his mouth were simple facts. Statistics he had memorised long ago in his studies that he found he never - for some reason - forgot. He found it odd when people commented on "forgetting" just about anything, for it never seemed to be an action his brain too. Everything was always there. Filed carefully. And ready to be regurgitated upon command.
When the horses were brought forward, Fotios was more cautious than his brother, checking first the creature’s teeth, feeling his legs, checking the leather of the head piece and the pelt across its back. Then led the animal in a half circle to turn it in the right direction before mounting it, keeping an eye on its step. He was a cautious planner by nature, and he liked his life. It wouldn't do to have it thrown away in the misstep of a misbred animal.
Georgios commented on being happy on the isle with his new and future family as Fotios settled upon his gelding's back and took up the reins in a movement more instinct than instruction.
"A son would bring great security to the family, brother." He told the man, as if by reminding him it would somehow make it an eventual reality.
The two of them kicked their mounts into forward motion, heading towards the only road that lead out from the tiny town-come-village that had manifested around the little dock. As the manor was close to the settlement in order to be near to a supplies source, it was only a few minutes before they could see the roof top of the large white building in the distance over the roaming hills, with the backdrop of the low mountains behind.
The horses had come to a stop, as if sensing their riders' need for a moment of appreciative pause. Catching his brother's eye as Georgios looked over at him, Fotios raised a hand and indicated towards the house, a small on his face at the large expanse of flat grassland between them and the manor.
"After you?" He offered with a glint in his eye...

"After you?" He offered with a glint in his eye...
Georgios might have been told all the same information as Fotios, but he just didn’t have the same penchant for remembering the details. He rarely thought about the past and certainly didn’t focus on the future much. Instead, it was all about now. The beautiful lands he was assigned by their father that he was looking at with his very own eyes. Just being told didn’t necessarily make it real. However, standing on the rich, fertile soil and glazing over the white tipped mountains in the background. That made it real.
A son would bring great security to the family. The words were ones that he had heard before. Ones that he heard as a child when his mother and father were praised for such success as three sons. Georgios was told all of his years that it was the goal to be strong, powerful, and most of all make heirs to pass on the wealth to. He wanted to please those around him, but he also wanted to be able to be grateful for what he had. He nodded with a smile. The middle brother didn’t want to answer that - he didn’t want to admit that it was fine if it wasn’t a boy. There would be more children. This one didn’t have to have all the pressures of the first Leventi heir to be born.
His own horse looked good from the casual glance that he had given it. It was a boring grey, some might say, but with a shine in the son that would put most mares to shame. Long legs to accommodate the Lord. Not just any horse would do. A very Georgios smirk sat on his lips while he watched and waited for his brother. They were as different as apples to oranges, but could be known to get along anyway. They were both fruit of the same family and sometimes had the same ambitions.
His attention followed the gesture of his brother’s hand to look at the beautiful manor situated on the hill. Georgios could already imagine the breezes that passed through the arched windows and the view of the whole province from high balconies. It was perfect. His life was coming together as of late. He had a wife that he adored, despite barely knowing her. A baby on the way. A province and a father who could be happy with him. What more could a young man ask for?
Heels tapped the horse into a leisurely walk. There was no need to rush through the landscape. No need to be anywhere besides right here. Georgios looked over to Fotios looking at that glint with a slight bit of suspicion. ”What about you? You should get a wife so that you may bless the family with sons you talk about so much.” He pushed the pressure on to Fotios, where it belonged. Georgios didn’t want to worry about all frontline work it would be to arrange everything as the head of the entire Leventi House. He was more than pleased that he had been born second, even if he was seemingly receiving so much first.
”At this rate, Lucille will be married before you. Even Konstanos.” He let out a laugh. Maybe Fotios would be alone forever, though Georgios highly doubted that. He was a man in rapture with tradition and having no wife and no children was no life at all. ”I hope that this new home of mine doesn’t mean I will never see you again. Will you miss me brother?” His brow raised as he offered up a daring grin.

Fotios followed his brother's trail, taking to behind his grey when the path became thin and then moving naturally to his side as became wide enough to accommodate both animals’ side by side. He never moved to take the lead, nor to cut his brother off - either in motion or in speech.
When Georgios turned the conversation in his direction, Fotios merely snorted softly beneath his breath. It had been Georgios who had been arranged the marriage with their pretty cousin Evelli and it would remain Georgios who had everything that was "easy" afforded to him. As second born, he was a man who would, in order to appease and respect the family name, required all that was "good" but necessitated nothing that was "great".
Marrying a cousin within the Leventi House was a good and strong connection to cement the family. But Fotios would be expected to marry someone great. A princess of a kingdom, the daughter of the wealthiest merchant in the known lands. Something and someone of great import that would bring to the Leventi name everything that it was worthy of. Georgios was permitted good. Fotios would have to seek that which was great...
Ergo, his union had yet to be decided by their father Serafim. As Master Informer, Fotios had heard on the grapevine several instances where Houses were interested in marrying into the Leventi line and had been refused such an honour. It was not his place to decide such things, despite his rank as a Master - it was his father's as Head of House. A position he was only, in the last few years, beginning to realise was so powerful within its own sphere of influence. Fotios could have kings and lords in the palm of his hand through information and blackmail. Yet he could not make the important decisions within his own life because he was a Leventi. And Serafim controlled the Leventis.
To be born to such a name that he loved and would work to raise about all, was but the gift and a curse.
"I shall not be permitted to decide my marriage." Fotios said with only a hint of his disagreeable feelings on the matter shining through. "Though if we are to understand father's wishes for such a woman that I would require, I suspect I will remain single to the end of my days, brother."
When Georgios asked about not seeing Fotios as much, Fotios simply raised an eyebrow to suggest that being offered a barony and having a child on the way was such a momentous place to be in life that the last he should be concerned with was whether he would see his brother enough.
"Like a third hand, my brother." He answered him as the wind tugged at his hair and shirt. "I'll miss your usefulness but not the stares you always made people offer our way."
His lip twisted in wry amusement in an easily understood expression of jest.
"Besides..." He continued. "Macendia will be a nice escape from home." He told the man. "You'll see more of me than you'll expect and that you'll have need of given the distraction and wife and new-born will give you."
Glancing up and looking out towards the white rooftops of the manor to which they were headed, Fotios nodded his head in that direction.
"Come now, let us see what these beasts can do..."
With a look of challenge towards his brother, Fotios clicked his teeth and kicked at his mount into a hard pace, launching forward from a simple walk into a full gallop. The change was sudden and dangerous but in the hands of a Leventi - a horse master from almost birth - such a pace could easily be handled.
"If I beat you there brother, I'm taking the house as my own!" He called back to Georgios, his words most likely lost on the wind...

He huffed a bit of amusement at the thought of their father leaving Fotios forever single. The idea that there might be no woman in the realm that was great enough for the eldest of the Leventi boys. A trio that was well known for a number of things. The eldest intelligent and meant to rule with the mind for it. Georgios was thrown aside as a pretty face to look at. Though, he didn’t mind that reputation, in fact, appreciated the compliments. ”I have never known you to be passive. And from experience - you are a rather persuasive man, brother.” Course, this was their father they were talking about. Nothing ordinary would do. And while Fotios could easily corral Georgios into what he wanted, Serafim wasn’t as easy.
”Always the jester.” He couldn’t help but smirk in the metaphor Fotios offered up. Georgios was the epitome of Taengean. He loved his family and the affection that he had for them. He would be lost without his brothers and therefore worried about how the distance would change the family. Even if it was a great honor.
The conversation was cut short and the clicks he heard meant only one thing. There was a race to be had and Georgios loved such amusement. Anything that was competitive was an easy yes on his part. His own mouth resonated as he kicked his feet to urge the horse forward. Hooves dug deep into the earth kicking dirt into the air behind him. The beat of the strides were in rhythm with his quickened beat of his heart.
He spent the first part catching up to Fotios, but as he passed there was a broad grin over his shoulder. ”The only task you shall ever beat me at is birth, my brother.” It was a harsh taunting, but expected as he kicked again and again forcing the pressing task on the unknown horse. He shouldn’t have been so foolish as to pressure an unknown stead. Sweat already forming down the neck of the beast and on the brow of Georgios working hard. His biceps tightening and releasing along with the neck bobbing forward and back as they willed up the trail and towards the stark white manor.
When he reached near the front, a good place for a finish line. Georgios tempted fate even more as he purposefully enticed the horse to rear. Showboating at it’s best, he held onto the strands of mane before the horse snorted back down. He was still a teenager. Pushing adrenaline to the max was among his favorite of pastimes.
”Maybe next time, Fotios.” Even if he was allowed to win for confidence boosting or the fact that it was Georgios special day, he didn’t care. He popped off his horse in a suave move. Hands pulling the purple and white decorated himation back into the correct place. It had been dislodged during the ride.
He turned at the front door of the manor looking out on his brand new dominion with pride. No matter what anyone had said, this was the dream. This was good enough for Georgios - though he was generally happy with anything. His arms outstretched happily in a sort of all mine expression. ”We should plan a party.” He noted as he turned to pass through the threshold.

Frustrated at the speed - or lack thereof - that his creature was able to create; the animal was built for strength and cart dragging, not racing along the greenery - Fotios did little to stop his brother storming past him and heading into the lead towards the manor house that was their destination.
The two brothers, though raised with the same teachings and the same understanding of how to ride the bread and butter that was their family's legacy, rode as their personalities dictated.
Georgios was a passionate man. Happy, exuberant; alive for the moment. He rode with such determination and enthusiasm, his muscles and the line of his back working hard to encourage with creature beneath him, driving steadily forward.
Fotios was calmer. He moved in sync with his creature without great effort; his presence on its back was an extension to the animal's own flank, not an additional being atop him. He moved calmly and smoothly and controlled the horse more with his legs than with his upper body.
By the time his brother had won the race and was show-boating before the manor's front gates, Fotios was offering a wry smile of amusement, pulling his mount up short in his place as second without the same pomp and circumstance.
"You never beat me, Georgios." Fotios said, continuing their brotherly banter. "I'm simply careful in my choice of when I win."
Looking up towards the manor they stood before, Fotios spotted a steward and several servants exciting the place and hurrying towards them, having been awaiting their arrival.
Swinging a leg back and over his horse's rear, Fotios slid to the ground gracefully and led the beast through the open gates after Georgios, handing off the leading reins to those who stepped forward to take them.
The space they had entered into was beautiful. A courtyard - larger than the standard - stretched out before them, surrounding a large monument pedestal that stood in the middle of a low-slung pond with plants and lilies floating on its surface. The pedestal would be open to whatever ornament or decoration Georgios or Evelli might want to install.
The courtyard operated as the central square for three large wings to the single storey manor and was surrounded by ivy, climbing plants and flowering fruit trees that had been placed in gaps in the marble paving in order to crawl their way across the faces of all the walls, carefully trimmed around windows to ensure no diminished light broke through into the rooms beyond.
The whole space was green, vibrant and just a little lacking in formality.
Fotios almost snorted to himself; it was perfect for his brother of exactly the same qualities.
The front of the manor offered a wide demi-sphere entrance with several steps leading the large wooden doors; painted white and trimmed in decorative bronze. A beautiful hibiscus plant was taking over its domain on one side of it.
Other areas of the building were open with large archways, so Fotios turned to his brother to check on the direction he wished to take. It being his new home, it was up to Georgios to decide in which order her wanted to explore it.

A laughter emanated all around him as just nodded to Fotios boast. He could believe that and maybe it was true. He was grateful for all that his elder brother did for him. The comment might have opened a can of worms and wonder of how many times his brother had actually let him win, but Georgios didn’t care. He just gleefully kept his skip in his step and moved through the rounded doorway to the villa that would be soon called home. There was no need to be petty, it was easier to just love.
He mentally noted what he needed to get done. First the numerous places where he would have statues commissioned by stone artists. An elegant Hera to be placed at the pond for Evelli’s sake. They had been married a year. A short time to try to impress the cousin that he been placed before him. He hadn’t argued, not much. Not that he hadn’t loved someone else - a childish crush considering he had always known he would be forced to have whoever his father chose. He wanted to please her, but he was still working at what was the true way to her heart.
His feet planted right inside the main entrance, where most would enter his home. ”Is it too self-centered to want a portrait mosaic right here.” His arms stretched wide as he looked to the floor. There was plenty of white washed walls. The look of a place pristine. It was only the foliage that added color. The greens, browns, reds, and pinks of blossoms dotted here and there. But, Georgios wanted more. He stepped to the left to a large open room that could be for entertaining. And boy, did the middle brother plan on entertaining. ”A few Leventi crests here.” His hand graced his chin as he looked thoughtful. He would make this his own. He planned to have it a long time and his line would keep it after that.
Georgios was firmly satisfied being the spare to his brother. Fotios had a mind for what it took to be the leader of a house. He knew that he was more carefree and that lent well to spending money, not necessarily making it. There was no object too grand to fill his manor and make it truly his own. The benches and many other pieces of furniture littered the rooms that were around. It was part of the property, but would need to be made his own in some way. Likely, purple and gold where he could accent for the sake of his family.
There were bedrooms to fill going down the last of the three sprawling hallways. He had a cherish grin plastered on his face. A happy medium would be had, or in his dreams a few of each gender. Little did he know that the greatest expense of his lifetime would be the five dowries he would need to fork over. Especially with the matches Evelli would want. He knew his wife was ambitious even at a young age. She was like Fotios, still thinking of what sons would secure for the family.
”We should celebrate tonight. Is there a staff in place?” He rose a brow as he hadn’t even thought about what a home would take. These types of things had always been done for him before. Evelli would bring her own ladies from Vasiliadon and there would be a guard or two to keep the place safe. Though, a few slaves would be nice for what it took to upkeep the large home. His arms were soon crossed over his chest as his expression showed how clueless the young teenager was. Maybe he should have listened more or even paid more attention. That was what he had Fotios for, wasn’t it? Slaves versus servants, skilled interviews? There were so many questions.

Fotios said nothing as Georgios stepped into the courtyard and looked around at the three-wing home he had been gifted. The elder brother could see it in Georgios' eyes - the planning, the imagining, the envisioning of what it would all look like once completed.
While the two brothers had many a difference between them, that was one area and trait in which they could both share. They were both visionaries. While Fotios was more a calculator, a manipulator and planner... someone determined to gain that which he wanted and yet was so far out of reach only forceful planning and deliberate pro-action would get it for him, Georgios was the one who imagined and hoped... content with what he received or worked for at a respectable level and relished in that which he had. But still, they were both visionaries with a firm imagination. Fotios just dreamed a little further out of reach than his brother.
So, as they cut across the courtyard and the servants and steward stepped back and out of the way to let them pass, turning their attentions to the Leventi brothers' horses, Fotios could not help but empathise and feel a moment of compassionate connection with his brother over their shared, ambitious visions.
When Georgios asked if it was self-centred to form a mosaic in the centre of the entrance hall, Fotios snorted through his nose.
"Only if you intend it to be of your face." He told the brother assuringly. Though, knowing the man and his determination to become besotted with a wife he didn't - up until a year ago - even want, Fotios wondered momentarily if he might splash Evelli's face all over the mosaic floor. Which would have been just as repugnant.
Not that Fotios had an issue with the woman. She was perfectly appropriate, pretty, fertile and a Leventi to boot - the admittedly her bloodline was more washed down than there's which equated to how she had only half the Leventi ambition that burned through Fotios' bloodstream. But she served her purpose, made Georgios happy and was about to bring the first of a new generation of Leventis into the world. There was little he could say to commend the woman, but even less with which to he could condemn.
As Georgios moved through the hall and entered one of the largest banqueting rooms, he started rambling and bumbling on about some party he wanted to hold, even though they were the only two of their social circles on the damn island. The exuberance in his brother that was clearly surpassing his logic had Fotios smiling and leaning in the doorway of the grand hall as Georgios looked about himself, asked about staff and then made a face at his brother.
"You have no idea what you're doing, do you?" He asked the man with a derisive but compassionately amused drawl to his voice. Fotios folded his arms. "Would it help if I told you that Evelli, Konstanos and a bunch of household staff will be on their way here within the hour?" He told the man, a manipulative gleam to his eye.
What could he say? He knew his brother well. His enthusiasm and his lack of planning skill. He had arranged for the stewards to have stocked enough in the place for a decent sized feast for their family members and that of the prominent families out in Macendia. After informing his brother of this he tacked on that all he had to do was send some of the servants who were already here with verbal invitations for them to attend a feast at the new Leventi manor, should he truly wish to hold an event so quickly...

Laughter erupted when Fotios had called him out on his plans. A mosaic dedicated to himself would be too much, though he might have adored it. People walking on one’s face did end up being a dud of a plan. Maybe a god’s face would garner attention enough for guests to skirt around the artwork he would commission into the floor. His home was going to be spoiled with what he could beautify. It would be memorable and easy to sit in an room contemplating the features of who they worshipped. ”Apollo. That is who I shall honor. And Hera at the fountain for Lady Evelli.” The decisions declared, but to be called upon later.
There was nothing slow about the pace Georgios lived his life. Crashing into the world when most did not expect it and gossip surrounding him much of his life, it nearly became a motto. In he could live in each moment and put the last one to rest, they would never have time to dwell on it. They would only have reason to live in his embodiment of now. Pulling some out of the past and others, like his brother, from going too far into the future was a gift and even if it was only for a moment. He would get Fotios to enjoy at least something that night.
The angle of his brow begged to answer what he had asked with the obvious answer. Do I ever? However, Fotios already knew that and the question had likely been rhetorical. This was a lesson Georgios had learned long ago to just smile and nod and accept that his elder brother knew him almost better than he knew himself. Fotios thought of absolutely everything, always. The next words spilled out and filled him with happiness. His large muscular arms wrapped around his brother with a heavy slap to his shoulder. ”I would have been satisfied with a jug of wine between us. However, I will not turn down what you have planned for me.”
It wouldn’t be like it was before. Not like when they might toy with the idea of bringing women to entertain in ways that Georgios had not been keen on since dedicating to his beautiful wife. It was strange given how free he had been just prior, but he wanted to make the family happy, her happy.
”Will there be a day where you won’t achieve the impossible every day?” He knew that he and his brother were different in so many ways, but he looked up to him and was more than pleased to have all of this already taken care of. A weight lifted off his shoulders. It might as well have been the start to the longest and most impatient of hours for the middle Leventi boy. While he attempted to busy himself with describing more aspirations for the large estate, his gaze was consistently trapped to the road leading to the manor for everyone else. There would be food, wine, conversation, and laughter, he expected laughter.
When the time had come, Georgios’ affinity to being in other’s personal space lead him to hold an arm around Fotios’ shoulders. ”You will promise to have fun, won’t you brother?” He leaned in close, but his face still firmly facing the procession that was coming up to the manor of Macendia. ”And to be kind?”

Fotios was knocked forwards slightly at the jovial manner in which Georgios slapped a hand to the back of his shoulder. Fotios was neither weak nor fragile and could hold his own in a basic swordfight. His legs were also strong and sturdy from so much riding - as was true for any Leventi. But when Georgios made physical contact, he tended to do it with all the strength of the emotions behind it and it knocked the elder brother off balance for just a second. Georgios seemed not to notice, however, as was his way and continued to chatter regarding his plans and exuding thanks and impressed awe for Fotios' efforts.
When the man claimed to have been satisfied with a bottle of wine between the two of them, Fotios made a "Hmm..." sound that was decidedly noncommittal but to anyone who knew the two brothers (including themselves) it was clearly a tone of disbelief.
Georgios liked liveliness. Not content with his own company in the way that Fotios was, Georgios loved to plan and execute huge gatherings whenever he could. No, correction. He liked to imagine large and joyous gatherings. The planning of such things was something he was far from adept at. Luckily for him, it looked like Evelli was as much as socialite as she was a Leventi and would be able to handle that for him. At least that would be one task taken off of Fotios' hands.
When his brother asked if there was ever a day that he would be unable to achieve the impossible, Fotios snorted delicately at the idea.
"I sincerely hope not." He told his brother. "But the day of my demise looks likely... unless I find a way to cheat death." Which by the Gods if there was one, he would have likely found it by then. Not a lot got passed Fotios of Leventi.
Then again, given the options, Fotios wasn't entirely sure he would ever want to life forever. Life was exciting the way it was because it had a deadline. To take away the finite nature of one's existence made everything one did obsolete.
Over the course of the next few hours, the house was finished in its preparations. Whilst the place needed much decoration and a few pieces of repair here and there, the manor was in perfectly affordable shape to conduct a social event - even if it was last minute. The manor was well presented and very clean (given that no-one had lived in it for months) and the open layout encourage airflow so it didn't smell stale.
The staff within the building had already been preparing for the event - as per Fotios' instructions that were sent ahead of them by carrier pigeon and upon their arrival the fires beneath the prepared meats had been lit and the meals prepared.
By the time guests were likely to arrive the whole manor was warm and welcoming with the sweet and hot smell of roasting pig in the air inside and the bougainvillea outside. The two Leventi brothers ended up side by side, having made all their final preparations and dressed casually enough to greet their family but in rich enough materials to warrant their rank over the influential families they had invited. It was there, standing on the step of the manors open front doors as their attendees were permitted inside the gates and converged over the courtyard that Georgios turned to Fotios, insisting on fun and kindness. Not two things he was particularly fond of offering.
"I'll be civil." Fotios commented. "Does that count?"

The last year of marriage had been a steep learning curve, at least for Evelli. Neither herself nor her new husband had even known much of each other prior to marriage, but Evelli had, as always, been a dutiful daughter and Leventi. She had not fought the marriage one inch, yet one could deem her as lucky to have received someone as Georgios as her intended. Having heard many horror stories from her mother on how arranged marriages could turn out horribly wrong, Evelli was eternally grateful to Hera for blessing her marriage, for as the days passed, Evelli found Georgios to be an exemplary husband, someone she had little to complain about.
While the first few days had been trying, with much for Evelli to learn, as it passed, she too had learned what it was to be a wife, as well as how it was to be a lover to someone. Spyros of Leventi had been insistent that a marriage to Georgios of Leventi would secure her future, and Evelli had bowed to her father's wishes. Now at the age of sixteen, she could hazard a guess that she knew what Spyros meant. Georgios provided her with a blanket of security that her father couldn't upon his death, and that was what he wanted.
But perhaps more then that, it was the babe in her belly that secured the future of their house, and proved that she was a worthy match to the second son of the Leventi house. Georgios had turned to be an even more doting husband ever since she had discovered she was pregnant with their first child, close to almost six months ago. Now on her eighth month of pregnancy, movement was getting more and more difficult, with her belly growing heavier, and her constant need for rest. Evelli had been thankful when Georgios had headed off to visit the new barony he had been presented with in Macendia, a placed, he told Evelli, he had wanted to make a home for their future. Her heart had softened to her husband after the months of his doting kindness, and in return Evelli had gently urged him to visit the barony with his brother.
What Evelli did not realize, was for Fotios to arrange for her to arrive at a later hour, enough time for her to ready herself and dress, but not too soon that would tire her out. It was late afternoon when the carriage drew to a stop in front of the second Leventi manor in front of Vasiliadon, and there her other brother in law assisted her into the carriage, and eventually on the boat that would bring them the couple of hours ride to her husband's new island barony. Following behind the closed carriage that held the two nobles was another that would have all the retainers and household staff that came along to assist Evelli. Konstanos was, as always, graceful and kind to the young sixteen year old as she boarded the boat, and ensured the heavily pregnant lady was well ensconced on deck before the ship set sail.
By the time they arrived however, Evelli found herself quite green in the face. Apparently the babe in her belly did not quite agree to the swaying of the evening boat ride, and the lady was quite glad to have both feet on solid ground. While she was eager to get to her husband's new manor on horseback however, the physician had cautioned her against riding ever since she entered her sixth month of pregnancy, and as such Evelli had to contend with yet another carriage to the Macendia manor that would house her husband.
Twilight held just enough light to show the dark maroon chiton that Evelli wore as the carriage she was in rolled to a stop in front of the manor just minutes late, Konstanos riding up next to the carriage to greet his two brothers. Evelli however, was assisted down the steps by the two footmen, her steps cautious as they came down the steps, before she was on solid ground. There, two retainers were quick to come up to her side, walking in close step next to the brunette as Evelli gave a small curtsy, with a hand on her swelling belly to stabilize herself, to greet Fotios as she should. "Thank you for arranging for our arrival here, Fotios. I am quite glad to be able to meet my husband on his first day as the lord of Macendia." she murmured. Only after, did she turn to Georgios, her smile more affectionate then the one she had offered to Fotios. As if she was drawn to him, be it due to the babe, or simply because Evelli was learning that she felt much more then just a simple respect for her husband, her eyes held a glimmer of amusement, as they raked over the house that was seemingly prepared, with the smell of meat cooking over fire, and asked coyly, "You prepared a party for our arrival, husband?" Of course, Evelli would not have been surprised. In the year they had been wed, the woman has now learned of her husband's joy in parties and gatherings, and never passed up a chance to have one.

He just laughed and nodded to the response he received. Georgios should have expected that, but it didn’t keep him from hoping that his brother would eventually attempt to be more like himself. Then again, that probably meant the he would have to be more like Fotios - and that was unlikely. The two were very different, but they still made good brothers. His hand patted gentler this time as he stepped forward.
In regards to her perfect timing by the help of Fotios, Georgios interjected. ”My brother knows what is best for everyone.” It was said with a genuine tone. At this age, this was the brother that had always been there for him. The brother that defended his bloodline and always made sure the Georgios was not lost in the middle between the other two. So many middle children fought for attention, but he was never left behind. What Georgios said was the absolute truth and he had managed to do what was perfect on this day. The meal already decking the tables as more people were lined up to arrive behind Evelli’s carriage. It wasn’t a huge procession, but it was enough to make Georgios feel welcome in his new lands.
”I am afraid I cannot take credit for the festivities.” Though it was exactly what he wanted from the night. His head turned to look to Fotios to put the credit where it was due before stepping in close to Evelli placing a simple kiss to her cheek. His hands were kept to himself, though he wanted to touch her. He would have liked to rub a hand across her growing belly and speak welcomes to the baby that was inside, but he also didn’t need others to see him as soft, sentimental, or silly. He reached down and pulled her hand into the crook of his arm to escort her in. ”Let’s get everyone seated so we can eat. Maybe Fotios has written me a speech as well.” He winked to Fotios when he spoke his brother’s name.
The people continued to arrive and walk through a villa that had been abandoned since the previous baron had left it. One with no heirs. Georgios already had that to boast about, not to mention what he would have liked to say about being a good Lord. A gracious Lord. And what he would do to bring prosperity to the people. ”I will make sure you are happy here, Evelli.” Georgios was always worried about the contentment of the people around him. He didn’t see the home as a place that would bring protection or security, it wasn’t his title that brought him joy, it was that he would actually have a home that was only his and for his family that he was building. There would be lots of children to run the halls, he hoped.
They were soon in the biggest hall for the serving of the food. ”There will be statues there and there.” He started and gave Evelli the same visions that he had spouted to Fotios as he toured the manor. This time it was already fuller. There were people to pause, meet, and remember. Though, he knew that he wouldn’t remember all the names. He was terrible with names and facts. He did not quit smiling the entire time he had Evelli by his side and wine in his hand. People all around was where he was the most comfortable. Fotios had made it happen. It was perfect. ”What do you think will make Fotios happy?” He leaned in and spoke a loud whisper into Evelli’s ear. ”I want to thank him for all he has done.”

It was perfect. ”What do you think will make Fotios happy?” He leaned in and spoke a loud whisper into Evelli’s ear. ”I want to thank him for all he has done.”
Fotios smiled with genuine camaraderie that only felt fake on the inside because of the limited number of times he expressed such emotions. The lady Evelli - as she was now termed due to the marriage with his brother - was a beautiful woman of dark hair and pale skin - a darker colouring than normal within the Leventi brood. But Fotios had been fastidious about checking her and her parents' heritage when it had first been proposed that she might make a good match for his brother and there was no doubt to be had that she was a full Leventi by blood. If anyone else was in doubt, Fotios only had to point out that she was a good-looking woman with defined jaw and sharp features. The Leventi women were always incredibly pretty. Good breeding did that for both genders within their House. The women were beautiful and the men smart.
When she greeted him with immediate thanks, that smile came into being and he bowed his head respectfully low to the female; an uncommon gesture from the man that he offered her as his recent sister-in-law.
"Not at all, sister." He offered her. "Such an occasion deserves a little circumstance and I do my best to support Georgios in his ventures wherever I can."
Such a demure attitude was something normally reserved when Fotios was speaking with the king and his family and he caught Georgios' eye as he straightened back up again.
Kind enough for you brother? His expression seemed to ask.
As the party continued inside, Fotios encouraged his brother to take his wife within the manor's walls and lead the procession inside, whilst he remained at the first and main doorway to the building. There, he stood on the highest step and welcomed each guest inside so that Georgios could have a moment with his wife before greeting them all himself inside the dining hall.
By the time he, his family relatives and the rest of their esteemed guests had passed inside, Fotios was able to join the couple in time to hear Georgios comment on how he might have written a speech for him.
"You always seem to have much to say on a topic." Fotios ribbed the man. "I thought such a task to be of little difficulty for you, Georgios."
His eyes flashing with amused humour, Fotios detached himself once more from his brother and headed to begin conversation with a few gentlemen who stood towards the corner of the room, heads closer together than was standard for normal conversation and their eyes trained on the Leventis. The town gossips one could easily assume. Which meant that Fotios would fit right in with their company.
Stepping forward to speak with them, he recognised the natural straightening of their spines and suspicious light in their eyes. They were not inclined to accept him into their conversations but Fotios was confident that, by the end of the evening, they would chatter with him as if they were old friends. This was, after all, as Master Informer, what he was best at; getting people to talk.
As such, he was across the room and out of earshot when Georgios asked his wife regarding gift ideas for the eldest of the Leventi brothers... Whatever it ended up being, he didn't need it. Such trifles didn't matter much to Fotios. The knowledge and connections he would make through this party were more than enough. He would take his own recompense for his helpful overtures to his brother...

She did not need Georgios's nod to affirm that a party had indeed, been arranged upon his first day acting as the baron to the province of Macendia in Taengea - but it was part of parcel why eventually, Evelli had grown to love her husband. While theirs had not been a marriage of love and affection, and more one of political gain and to ensure bloodlines remained pure, it was hard not to grow affectionate to the second son of the Leventi line. There was something about Georgios and his easy-going nature, and the truly genuine way in which he cared for her wellbeing, that has won Evelli over. He seems to watch over her every step ever since she had gotten pregnant with his babe, and little by little, it had slowly but surely crept into her heart.
The wife of thhe baron turned to smile at her brother-in-law when credit was given - Fotios may have his own ways, but they had always been enacted on the behalf and favor of the Leventi family, and to a certain extent, Evelli understood his actions. They were similar to what her own mother had taught her - Nomiki of Leventi had fought long and hard for her to end up as a Leventi noble, and she had hoped that her daughter would have her same zest. Evelli did not wish to disappoint her, and had grew up only wishing to ensure the Leventi bloodline stay strong - much like Fotios's own desire, actually. So in a way, she understood him.
Laughing a little, to be fair, Evelli would not be surprised at all if Fotios had. Georgios's background was questionable, and as a babe, she knew of the whispers that surrounded his parentage, whispers that his own brother fought to quash, especially now when her husband was presented with his own barony. "Perhaps a speech would've been better prepared by you, brother - then we may get to eat at a proper time instead." she teased, her eyes glimmering with unsaid laughter at her own spouse.
Following Georgios's lead as brought her to walk through the villa, she smiled affectionately at his gentle words. Of that, she had no doubt. Her husband had done nothing to make her doubt him, and she was entirely sure he would see to her every comfort even as a baron with more responsibilities. In response, she simply squeezed his hand tightly, and nodded, not really giving a verbal response. In her belly, she could feel the babe tumble, as if loving his or her father's words. The baby would be ready to meet the world anytime soon, and while Evelli had never had any maternal instincts before, she now could not wait to see the child, if only to see how happy Georgios would be to hold his own offspring in his arms. The man had made it no secret how large of a family he wanted.
As they entered the large dining hall, her eyes followed his direction to the vision he had, and her smile grew with every word he said - the man had taste, she had to admit, but when it came to the colors, she knew she would have a hand in it. And if Georgios wanted a large family, she wanted to be sure they were prepared for the amount of children she would have for the house. Greeting the people, making sure to note the names down as Georgios introduced them (a talent she had to learn from her parent's teaching her at a young age), a servant had pressed a chalice of fresh water in her hands as hr husband whispered to her.
The woman agreed - it was the least they could do for Fotios, who had done much for Georgios, and as his wife, she felt thankful to Fotios as well. "He looks greatly upon the Leventi family name. I think us ensuring the family grows in size and nobility would be enough of a recompense for him, husband." she murmured, picking up his hand to gently lay it on her swollen belly where she felt the babe move, hoping her husband could feel the same, smiling affectionately at him. "But a thanks to him in your speech would not be amiss. Do keep it short though, husband dearest. Do you think you could manage? I am quite hungry myself." The lilt of a laugh was in her voice again as the servants opened the doors, and the head housekeeper announced in a booming voice that dinner was served.
Following her husband's lead, she entered the hall, where the lights glowed and the expanse of food was laid out. She would stand by her husband's side as he gave his speech, one that needed Evelli to tug at him when it started getting long-winded, before the servants began serving the meal that had been prepared. The night would draw long, and by the time they retired, Evelli's back and feet would hurt... but it would be a satisfying, one they would remember for years, as the baron and baroness of Macendia began the rest of their lives.
