"Nooooooo!" Daniil Marikas stood definiant and enraged. The youngest of the Marikas Trio stared at her parents as If they both had horns growing out of their heads. The topic that set Daniil into such a storm, was the one word she did not want to hear. Not now anyway ---- Marriage.
She was not ready nor did she want to entertain the idea that she could get sucked into a loveless relationship that could and would likely resemble something like their own Marriage.
I don't want to be some bird stuffed into a cage controlled by a man who only sees me as a means to an end. I am not some brood mare popping out child after child until my body cannot handle it. She thought.
She grabbed the hem of her dress and took off at a run towards the gardens.
I want a man that won't stifle me that would nor insist on a quiet mealy mouthed docile woman, but one that would see me as an equal and a helpmeet.
She collapsed on the ground in front of one of the many seats that dotted the garden. Her heart raced an sweat began to dot her face thanks to the heat of the day. It was a scorcher today. Soon she would be forced back inside and forced to face them and the topic at hand.

A vein pulsed visibly under the tight skin against his temple, his gaze a withering glare after his youngest daughter, watching her run off to disappear into the gardens. Pavlos immediately began to storm after her, a yell about to leave his lips, but he felt Sera wrap her fingers around his bicep and tug him back a step. It wasn't a surprise, she was used to wrangling him in when he was about to go off on a tangent on one of their daughters. He pulled up short and grit his teeth, but he acquiesced to her request to calm down, taking several breaths.
"I am calm, but I will speak with her."
Sera stared into his eyes for several moments, searching for the truth he assumed, satisfied, she released his arm with another firm look, and he took the hint. Pavlos followed after Daniil, finding her not too far away, sitting and pouting where he expected. The lord gave a heaving sigh, joining her on the ground, folding one leg down and draping his arm over the other.
"Are you done acting like a child?" He spoke finally, turning his head towards her, his eyes gentle despite his tone. He could somewhat understand her reluctance to begin the talks about marriage, she was still a child and thought different than other girls. She enjoyed things that young boys enjoyed, swords, dreaming of war and glory...She actually reminded him of himself when he was her age. It was a little startling, and he was unsure how to proceed.
If she were a son, then he would know exactly what to say to her: 'Give it time and soon you will hold a sword.' But, what was he to say to his very stubborn baby girl? Pavlos thought a few moments, his fingers trailing over the petals of a few petals at his feet, then it hit him. She was his, and even though she still had a duty to marry into power and raise their status, that did not mean that she could not learn to fight.
Pavlos stood suddenly, excitement tingling inside him for this potential experiment. Daniil could be the son he never had the chance to raise. After glancing behind him to see if his wife was lingering close behind, he gestured for his daughter to stand.
"You do not wish to be a reformed lady? You wish take charge of your own fate? Tell me now, my daughter. You will not be able to change paths easily once you make this choice. I will put a sword in your hand, but you must grab the handle.

She did not have much time alone. Dani knew that her words had angered her father. She had not meant to come off as a spoiled little brat. She did not expect him to understand why she resisted the idea so. But none of the menfolk in the family had to look far to find the answer.
She didn't want to be stuck with a man that was insistent that she be a biddable mouse and lock away her brain and her sword.
She braced for the confrontation at the sound of his footsteps behind her, but she didn't turn to face him either. She let him get comfortable She didn't move or react until he spoke to her.
Traces of anger and hurt show on her face as she turns around. Did he forget that she was indeed still a child? Didn't he want her to be? She was confused and the hurt slowly morphed into confusion.
"I am a child." she reminds him with an odd note to her voice. She looked around to see if Sera was on her way to join them. She doesn't right away t her youngest daughter's relief.
Seeing her father suddenly start to his feet, Dani started and drew back unsure of what was going to happen next. Once she was sure he was not going to let loose his rage again she slowly got to her feet and closed the space between them curious. She listens and then in a soft voice meant only for his ears, "I would need to be a woman in order to give you the marriage and allies you so badly want, but you also wish I was more. You wish I was a boy so you could share your wisdom and skills with." she tells him. Her hazel eyes hoped that she was not wrong.....

This had been what he had feared the most, that his expectations would weigh down Daniil. He had tried to treat his daughters all the same, but with Sera's latest birth once again coming out as a girl...he had to finally admit that Daniil's interests towards the more male aspect of life it had given him some sick satisfaction. sometimes he felt that it wasn't the gods that had cursed him, but his aloof wife instead. Maybe she drunk some womanly concoction that changed the sex of his son while still in her womb, making Daniil another daughter. Did Sera loathe him with such force that she would stoop so low? After all she already had her son with her dead lover.
Pavlos shook his head as he reached for his daughters hand, lifting her to her feet. "Come with me, away from your mother's prying eyes." He led her towards the training grounds, where his soldiers and guards practiced the many arms of steel, along with hand to hand combat.
"Before you hold a sword Daniil, you need to learn how to fight with your bare hands. I am going to show you the basics here, but I do not have the time to personally train you, so I will arrange to have someone teach you."
He quickly dismissed the stragglers that were lingering around the pit before turning to face his nervous daughter. He appraised her silently for several moments, his hands folded behind his back and his brow wrinkled in concentration. She was slight, lean, no amount of bulk at all to sustain direct body hits. Hmm. She would be very hard to catch if trained correctly, and if he had the smithy customize a sword that complimented her strengths...
The lord took a few steps forward, grabbing her wrists to position her arms correctly, closing her fingers into loose fists. "Keep your hands loosely curled until just before you strike, it allows for a faster and more damaging punch." He stepped back to demonstrate it to her, taking his stance, pulling his right arm back and flashing it forward with a tightly closed fist.
"Do not try to put all your weight into it, in case you miss, it will throw you off balance, leaving you open to a counter attack." Pavlos swung his fist forward again, showing her exactly what he meant, how he quickly recovered, fists raised again.
"Understand? Show me what I just did."

Daniil stayed in place as the silence stretched between them, her eyes watching his face. Something was going on behind those eyes that so nearly matched her own, she was sure of it, but what, she had no clue. Maybe in time she would learn what made her father tick.....
Daniil's hand slid into his and he lifted her onto her feet. When he bid her come with him away from Sera's gaze, she nodded and allowed her father to lead her away, her curiosity running rampant. She came to an abrupt halt, her eyes alight with curiosity.
She knew those men were loyal beyond a fault to her father. The sound of steel on steel came to a stop when they became aware of his presence as well as her own.
She listened to his words, her eyes intent on his face. She nodded as his words came to an end but she couldn't keep the hurt out of her eyes. Hurt brought on by the idea that her own father would not teach her. She let her hand slide out of his own and stood there far from a nervous and worried rabbit. No no no she was not Elena.
She watched him dismiss those that remained thinking to gawk at the sight of the youngest Lady learning to fight. She stood silent and watchful as he looked her over like he was gauging a new slave to the household. She stood still and let him size her up. If anyone would know where her strength would lie, it would be Pavlos.
She relaxed and allowed him to take her wrists into his hands. Hazel eyes studied how he moved to position her arms, fingers and wrists ending with her fingers, much like his own, curled into fists.
She drank in his instruction like a man sucking down wine when he was thirsty. She watched him demonstrate how to throw a proper punch. She mimicked his movement and took in his correction like it was mouther's milk.
Daniil threw punch after punch allowing him to offer corrections and whatnot, finally feeling joy that she had been begging to feel for the longest time.....

Pavlos stood off to the side and silently watched his daughter throw her jabs and low punches. He was mildly impressed by her determination, but she still lacked conviction and power. She didn't have it in her to actually injure or kill another person. He could tell alone by her weak stance, and half-hearted lunges. He inhaled deeply, calling for patience and to recall that she was a female, and of course did not have a natural blood thirst. Pavlos came forward again, reaching out with barely any effort to catch her wrist before she could throw another punch.
"I have a better idea. You need a taste of battle, little one." Pavlos flicked his gaze towards his silent two guards standing at post. He gestured them over with a crook of his finger, and they came obediently.
"Remove any weapons you may hold, and stand here a moment if you would."
They did as he asked, still silent, tossing their swords and daggers into the dirt in a heap at their feet. Pavlos placed his hand on Daniil's shoulder and led her closer to the two men, positioning her between them.
"Unfortunately, I can't bring myself to strike you down. You are my child, but in order to fulfill your wish, you need to experience real pain. Afterwards, I will ask you again if you wish to go down this path. Understood?" He didn't wait for her answer, instead he turned again to address Ajax and Leviathan, both of whom were now staring at each other nervously, clearly uncertain about harming the lady and daughter of Pavlos Marikas. Pavlos dismissed their fears.
"Spar with her, but remember her flesh is not as hard as those of us men, nor does she carry the stamina of a hardened warriors as yourselves. Still, do not take it overly easy. Bruise her. Knock her down, make sure she gets back to her feet. I will watch a distance away, but if either one of you seriously injures my daughter, I will see to removing your heads myself. Am I clear?"
Both men nodded dubiously, switching their gazes between Pavlos and Daniil as they prepared for this impossible task. Pavlos did as he said, stepping away out of the pit, to watch like a silent hawk.
NPC: Ajax shot one last glance at his fellow soldier before abiding by his lord's wishes. He approached Daniil slowly, raising his hands to show that he meant her no harm, before placing his hands on her arms to fix her in the correct defense.
"You need to put power in your strikes, my lady. Or your opponent will not go down. May I show you?"
