Dione blinked in surprise, lifting her chin as she drew her posture up to stand a little taller. It was not much, because at a mere 5’3 she was hardly the most intimidating person in the room. Her petite frame along with her delicate features were quite the disguise for the sharpness of her tongue. ”I do apologize, I don’t think I heard you correctly.” She said in a clipped tone, blue gaze gone cold as she stared at the servant blocking her way. The Midas hot springs were quite famous, and Dione had every intention of taking advantage of them on her last days in the city -- let alone the country.
The servant bowed again, keeping his eyes low even as his words were a bit harder. I said that the hot springs are closed today. The royal family has ordered them closed for a private affair. Dione tightened her jaw, brows furrowing as she glanced past the man into the main hall. She was so...damn close.
”I’m expected.” She lied, the thing springing from her tongue as easily as a deer leaping from the thicket. The servant considered her for a moment, and Dione continued. ”I’m a noblewoman from Athenia. I was invited by...the…the” She paused, trying to fish out one of the royals’ names. She knew them all of course, but who could she mention without their being much question? Which ones were inside the hot spring? Which one would forgive her if someone went to check her story? ”The prince...ahm...Zanon.” She hoped that was the one she was thinking of.
This seemed to register, but the servant still did not look entirely convinced.
Please wait here, I will announce you, my lady. He said, and Dione couldn’t stop the way her face paled. The servant turned quickly on a heel and disappeared into the rising mists. It is now or never, Dione. She thought to herself. She had just a few moments to decide whether she was going to run away, stand and wait, or go inside. With one quick glance behind herself, the blonde started forward -- taking what she hoped was an alternative hall than the one that the servant had taken.
She simply had to get in the springs and then they certainly couldn’t make a scene of throwing her out. It wasn’t as if she wanted to soak with the royals. They could hardly take up the whole hot spring, could they? Dione made short work of her chiton, unfastening the gold crests pinning up the ruby colored fabric until she was bare in the thick of the mist. She made a little sound of surprise as she put one foot into the water, finding it warmer than expected, before sinking the rest of the way into the warmth.
She sighed aloud. This was almost as good as a lover, she thought, as her hands went to pin her hair up, the ends already dripping wet.

I’m sorry miss, the hot springs are closed today

He needed to escape the confines of the palace. Normally he wouldn't bother bringing guards with him to soak in the springs, but with the goings on in Taengea his mother had insisted and he supposed she was correct. He trusted these guards anyway, and allowed them to set up a perimeter as he prepared himself to bathe. The hot springs were one of the few ways he was able to find relief from the pain in his leg, and a long soak would help him prepare for the activities of the week. There were foreign visitors in and when that happened, he was expected to put on the best show.
'A lady here to see you, my lord. She says you invited her to join you.'
The voice of his guard floated over to him as he stripped, and he looked to the man as they moved toward the spring, the drying cloth around his shoulders the only article of clothing he wore. Zan frowned for a moment as he tried to remember if he'd asked any of the women at the last party to meet him here today, unable to remember one in particular and very nearly saying he didn't believe he'd done anything of the sort when his gaze found her in the pool.
One of the Athenians, though he couldn't remember her name from the others that were visiting, her features were foreign to him but he couldn't stop the grin that spread over his lips. His guard was hesitant to remove her in the current state she was in, bare as he, but Zan gave a wave to dismiss him as he spoke, loud enough to draw the girl's attention through the mist. His gaze followed the curve of her neck and the way her golden hair was gathered atop her head.
"Yes, I believe I recall asking her to join me. Thank you, Ciros, that will be all."
His afternoon had certainly taken a turn for the most interesting. Setting his cloth on a dry rock, Zanon slipped into the pool without another word, the relief of the heat on his stiff joint was agony until the ache subsided into relief, and he was glad for the thick of the mist atop the water to hide any expression of pain. The prince stayed on his side of the pool, but as he reclined he looked over at her with an amused expression in his dark eyes.
"Forgive me for not recalling my invitation, my lady. Certainly I could never refuse a moment for one such as yourself. What business have we to attend to?"
Thank the gods he had refused the offer of company from others, else he would have had to share this intriguing adventure. His guards lingered out of sight, watching the perimeter, and if this beauty was here to help him meet Hades all the faster, he certainly had no qualms being dispatched by one of the handmaids of Aphrodite herself.

The mist was thick, swirling around her lithe frame and kissing her skin with tiny droplets of water. She had appreciated the Midas hot springs before, finding them to be delightful enough to want to return to them before the end of her visit in Colchis. It had been foolish, risky even, to dart into the halls while the servant had been distracted but Dione was accustomed to getting her way. The water lapped at her collarbone as she sank further into the warmth, a soft sigh of approval leaving her lips. She would have to be quiet to avoid drawing attention to herself.
Yes, I believe, I recall asking her to join me. Thank you…
It seemed however, that her luck was not as good as she had thought. Her blue gaze snapped up as she realized that she was -- in fact -- not alone. The very servant that she’d sent scurrying away was standing just far enough that the mists did a fair job of concealing him...and the man he was speaking to. Heat flooded her face as she felt her stomach do a funny turn, but it was too late to try to get out of the pool now. She averted her gaze as she clenched her jaw. Was it really the prince? Zan...Zanon?
Dione was not sure whether to laugh or cry at her misfortune. The gods certainly had a sense of humor, it seemed. Aphrodite, perhaps? It seemed a trick that the goddess of love would have preferred. The pool was large enough to accommodate several people comfortably, which meant that Dione could keep a proper distance without being called into question. Of course, sitting in a pool alone with a princeling like Zanon was going to draw rumors either way. The blonde tilted her head, sending her gaze to the ceiling as she tried to think of a way around this.
He spoke then, asking her forgiveness. She wondered, briefly, if he was humoring her or if he truly thought he’d invited her here. Didn’t this particular royal have something of a...flirtatious reputation? Dione tried to think of all the things she’d heard of Zanon, but admittedly it wasn’t much. She knew just enough about the other countries to be dangerous but it wasn’t as if he were from her homeland.
The blonde slid through the water with ease, keeping herself low enough to protect her modesty. She kept to the sides of the pool, looking as though she might jump out at any second before settling on a submerged ledge just far enough that the mists still floated between them and obscured her face slightly.
”Your apology is accepted, of course.” She said, swallowing hard as her voice was a bit too high for her liking. She was fine, she could do this. She could lie to the face of a royal. ”I had thought our business concluded, but if you’d like to discuss matters again...I’d be happy to renegotiate.” Of course, there had been no business. She couldn’t say she’d ever spoken to Zanon before. She glanced at him, well aware of the fine tone of his body. Her heart ticked up a beat, and she cleared her throat as she reached to sweep at a wet strand of blonde hair that had escaped.
”My father is a Baron in Athenia, and we enjoy many exports -- mostly from the plentiful seas. I’m sure there is something mutually beneficial that we could find to strengthen the bonds between our great houses.” She said, as if it were as natural as breathing. Granted, now, Athenia as a whole was struggling. Including her father’s province, but perhaps this would be a good opportunity to secure aid from the prince. She met his gaze through the mist, a smile curving her lips.
