Admittedly, Dione’s heart had fallen straight into the ground as soon as she recognized Essa of Drakos. The daughter of the princess, there was no telling what havoc the girl could wreak on Dione’s reputation if she set her mind to it. But as soon as the girl spoke, her voice sweet and innocent as a youth -- Dione knew she was safe. She could be manipulated, twisted to Dione’s good rather than her downfall. So the blonde smiled brightly, accepting the younger woman’s compliments with delight that was genuine. She was cute as a button, this one, she decided.
”You are too kind, Lady Drakos.” Dione said, glancing once just behind her to make sure that the young nobleman that had been her company had gotten away from here. She was much less interested in him now that she had an audience with someone like Essa. She cleared her throat before continuing, fluttering strangely nervous hands down the length of her chiton. The pin her paramour had undone was a little crooked, but she dared not draw attention to it.
”My name is Dione of Nikolaos. I’m visiting Colchis from Athenia, my family is but a minor nobility there so I am not surprised that you have not heard of us.” She had the strangest urge to boop the girl’s nose with her finger, but knew that was incredibly forward -- even for her. ”I do know exactly who you are, Essa of Drakos.” She said with a smile that was bright and perhaps a little flirtatious. ”I make it my business to know all of the important people across the Grecian kingdoms, and you most certainly make that list.”
The girl’s blush deepend, and Dione felt the strangest stirring in her chest. Essa of Drakos was far more interesting than she could have anticipated, and she wondered how in the world this innocent little thing had been allowed outside of her family home. She was...well, she was going to find herself taken advantage of -- this naive, sweet girl. She reminded her of her own sister, Rene, and she wondered if the fierce protectiveness that was swelling in her chest was just that or...
Dione stepped closer, reaching out to tuck a strand of hair behind Essa’s ear that had found its way into the younger woman’s face. ”Apologies.” She said, but there was no hint of it in her voice. ”Your blush is simply too beautiful for even the slightest of obscurities.”
Essa promised to keep her secret, and Dione reached to pat Essa’s cheek tenderly. The skin was warm and soft under her touch. ”Excellent. I should say we are thicker than thieves already, if you can keep such a secret for me.” She winked, her fingers trailing before she pulled away entirely. Dione reached for the crooked pin at the top of her shoulder, still rather embarrassed by being caught. Essa’s next words had her raising an eyebrow.
”Aphrodite has nothing to do with it.” She said with a little smirk. ”Gods be praised, but I wouldn’t depend on the love goddess if you want to attract a man. She has a habit of keeping all the good ones for herself, I think.” Dione waved a hand, clearly unafraid of bringing down the Love Goddess’ wrath. Perhaps it was because she put so much faith in her own beauty.
”You are a flower that has only just started to bloom, Lady Drakos. You are already blessed, even if you don’t realize it.” She said, finding that the words were true. Essa was cute now, but someday she would be stunning. She was no doubt catching the eyes of men and didn’t even realize it. ”But..if you’d truly be interested in such a thing..” Her green gaze glinted with something. ”I would be happy to teach you a few...tricks. Have you...ever had a lover? A kiss?” Her brow had crept upwards again as she considered the brunette.

The change in the woman before her was a little startling, but a relief all the same. Essa was a sensitive girl who hated to upset anyone, and never did well with raised voices or harsh words. If she was able to keep her composure enough to avoid tears - which was admittedly rare - then they were sure to flow as soon as she escaped. The younger girl visibly straightened, shoulders relaxing once she realized she wasn’t about to be screamed at. “Oh, not at all,” she answered with a shake of her head and a shrug of her shoulders. She didn’t see how anything she had said warranted such appreciation.
Her teeth scraped lightly over her lower lip as she noticed the crooked pin on the woman’s chiton and wondered if she should say anything. She didn’t want to embarrass anyone. Her eyes shifted up though as the woman introduced herself as a visiting noble from Athenia. “Oh yes, of course,” she said with a smile. “I’ve never had the opportunity to meet anyone from your family before, but I know the name.” Her mother had made certain her daughters knew the names of fellow Greek nobility. It was to be expected for the children of a princess after all.
Her flush brightened as Dione called her important though. “Oh no, not at all,” she began to babble. “I’m hardly important, though I can see how my mother or even my sister would be, but no one would ever think of me as important.” To say that such a statement left her flustered and even a little dazed would hardly be an understatement. Everyone was so quick to assume that Essa had nothing of value to offer. They treated her as a child still, though she had been a woman attending court for over a year now.
Her spiraling thoughts were scattered though as the Athenian shifted closer, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear. Her lips parted slightly as she looked up at her with wide eyes, shocked by the way the simple touch seemed to set butterflies loose in her stomach. “Oh...” she whispered softly, unable to even form words in response to such a compliment, not even to deny being worthy of it.
As she promised to keep her secret, Dione patted her cheek softly and Essa found that she enjoyed the tender touch, even if it made her face feel all the warmer still. She had to be practically bright red by now she feared. The blonde’s wink made her giggle a little though as she nodded. “Of course, I would never want to betray your confidence.” Seeing her reach to correct the pin, Essa smiled sweetly and leaned forward. “Here, let me,” she offered gently, knowing how difficult it was to make such adjustments without a looking glass. She adjusted the pin carefully before pulling back with a look of accomplishment. “Perfect!”
Hazel eyes widened in shock at the words that followed. Such bravery to speak so boldly. Then again, when one was as beautiful as Dione, Essa imagined there was little to fear. “Oh, I fear that’s my only hope,” she answered softly with a half shrug. She knew that she had time still, that she was young yet, but she wanted to find love so badly. “I’m no stunning beauty like yourself.” Growing up alongside her mother and sister, she couldn’t help but see herself as terribly plain. She had none of their height or grace, nor their lovely fair coloring. “Oh, now it is you who is far too kind,” she murmured, turning bashful as the woman before her continued to shower her with compliments.
Essa glanced up at the blonde once more, wondering just what it was she saw sparkling in those green eyes. Whatever it was seemed to make them all the more entrancing. Her questioned had Essa pressing her hands to her face, certain that she couldn’t blush any more than she already was. She could only manage to shake her head in answer, rather vehemently at that. After a moment, she forced herself to lower her hands, tentatively glancing up at the blonde once more.
“I’ve never...” She swallowed hard. “Even if I wanted to, there’s never been anyone interested,” she confessed, feeling shame wash over her. Still, there was a spark of curiosity in her hazel eyes. “How... how could you teach me?”

I’ve never had the opportunity to meet anyone from your family before, but I know the name.
”I’m honored,” She said brightly, before hesitating to add. ”And perhaps slightly embarrassed to be the first.” Dione found herself watching Essa with appraising eyes. She was pretty, well-bred and reminded Dione of a younger version of herself before she’d learned just what being a noblewoman was all about. So conversation seemed to flow between them quite naturally, despite the embarrassing nature of their meeting. Dione held still while Essa ficked the golden pin at her shoulder, eyes glancing between the girl’s face and her nimble fingers.
Catching her hand, Dione pressed those fingers to her lips before releasing her. ”Thank you. I would hate to look unpresentable.” She doubted that even the man that had been the reason the pin had been undone would have done quite as good of a job.
I’m no stunning beauty like yourself.
The compliment had Dione practically preening with delight, her hand reaching to casually touch Essa’s arm. ”Enough of that nonsense.” She said, her tone a little more firm. ”You are beautiful just as you are. Even in such a short amount of time, I can tell that your beauty is beyond the skin.” She smiled. Dione’s beauty was her looks, but Essa had that and a tender heart. It would cost her dearly someday, but for now -- it did not bother the Nikolaos girl to use it to her advantage. She couldn’t help but laugh as the girl pressed her hands to her face. She was a little doll, a plaything that Dione wanted to keep all for herself.
The fact that Essa had never kissed someone was not a surprise. She was young and shy, just from what she could tell probably had never put herself in a situation for such a thing to come up. Dione’s smile was slow as she came to the young Drakos’ side, taking her arm. ”Well...I could invite my…friend to join us, but it might be a little much for a beginner.” She began to steer Essa back towards the library, thinking that a couple of stolen kisses there would be fairly harmless. She was certainly not going to be taking things quite as far as she had been with the man. At least not...in such a public space.
”We’re friends, right?” She asked as she drew Essa -- books and all -- to a more secluded spot than the one she’d previously been using. ”You trust me?” As she spoke, she tucked Essa into a small corner. She freed up Essa’s hands, taking the books and setting them aside where they wouldn’t be in her way. When she looked back, the girl’s cheeks were still so pink, so tantalizing. Simply...irresistible. Her fingers slid up to touch the warmth, sliding back to tip the girl’s face upward.
”I will teach you this first...so things aren’t so..intimidating when you get your first kiss.” Dione said on a breath, leaning in to press a feather light kiss onto Essa’s mouth. The kisses were slow, coaxing. ”Feel this?” She murmured against her lips, before pressing in to give an example. ”Kissing is meant to be slow...sensual...not rushed.” And then there were no more words.

“Oh, there’s no need to be embarrassed. I haven’t traveled much outside my home,” she assured the older woman, not even pausing to consider she meant the nature of their meeting. “It’s probably for the best anyway. If we had been introduced any other way, I’m certain we wouldn’t have had the chance to speak at all.” Essa was introduced at court functions of course, but no one ever lingered around the young girl. She was as easy brushed off as a scrap of lint. Particularly to anyone of interest. She didn’t say it to be self-pitying, rather because it was simply the truth.
The younger girl didn’t notice the way the Athenian’s eyes studied her so carefully while she fixed the pin at her shoulder, far more focused on the task at hand. Someone as beautiful as Dione couldn’t be allowed to look anything less than polished. It would be a tragedy that simply couldn’t be tolerated. Such beauty was meant to shine. The blonde caught hold of her hand, brushing her lips against her fingers. It was the simplest of gestures, a display of gratitude, and yet it set her mind to spinning, heat growing in her face once more.
Somehow, Dione’s words silenced every protest that the young royal might have offered, leaving her mouth hanging slightly open in surprise. It made no sense, but the Athenian spoke with such confidence, to deny her assertion felt impossible. “I don’t feel beautiful,” she whispered instead. She certainly wasn’t used to such compliments and in truth she had no idea how to respond to them.
Essa was still an innocent girl, and such became obvious as Dione spoke of her friend. At first the brunette just looked at her in confusion, but slowly her meaning became clear. Her eyes went wide and her mouth became a small delicate o shape in her shock. “Oh, oh no, I couldn’t...” she began, her voice barely a squeak. Yet Dione was leading her back into the library, and she followed without question, like a good little pet.
“We are?” she asked softly, her whole face lighting up that a woman such as this might be interested in calling her a friend. “Oh, yes, of course!” she quickly added, not wanting to dissaude this notion at all. “I would be honored to call you my friend, Lady Dione.” She nodded as the blonde tucked her into a corner, too focused on this notion of friendship to question her actions, even as she removed the books from her arms. “I trust you,” she affirmed. Why wouldn’t she? Dione clearly had far more worldly experience than Essa could even hope to acquire.
She looked up at her new friend with complete trust, curiosity in her hazel eyes. What could Dione teach her that might ease her nerves about such a monumental first? She couldn’t fathom it, but she felt certain that the blonde knew much she didn’t. Needless to say, she didn’t expect what followed.
The older woman’s lips brushed against her own, slowly coaxing her to relax. A fluttery feeling filled her and relax she did, her hands coming to rest at the Athenian’s slim waist, more to steady herself than anything else. Or perhaps she was already craving that little bit more contact. All she knew was it felt like she was floating. Dione pressed in a little more firmly, demonstrating a proper kiss. Essa’s lips parted instinctively just before she pulled back. She felt dazed, and yet... that curiosity was rising to the surface again. How could she refuse such a sweet and helpful gesture?
Essa nodded slightly that she understood and then their lips met once more. Hazel eyes closed, sinking into it a little more this time, lips pressing back against Dione’s. She tried to mimic the older woman’s actions with her own lips, leaning forward, pressing closer to the beautiful woman. For once, the hundred thoughts that always seemed to fill her mind all disappeared. There was only this moment and the soft feel of another’s lips on her own.
