Hospitality was not something to be ignored, even for a woman such as Daniil of Marikas. Though her family had come to Colchis for the festival of peace, Daniil herself had not attended beyond what was necessary. She had little interest in such vapid celebrations, and had spent her time instead wandering the city and the countryside surrounding it. Colchis was a place of interest to her, even if its politics had not been. Women enjoyed a greater deal of freedom here than in her home, and she had found herself speaking to the women of this nation extensively. She had wished to discuss how their positions of greater equality affected their everyday lives and how such reforms had been passed and perhaps even how they could be introduced to the other kingdoms of Greece, but that tended to not be the topic of interest, especially after the festival. No, the topic of discussion always seemed to turn back to Elias of Stravos and the Princess Athanasia.
Stravos and Marikas were old names in Athenia, and though their stations were different, Daniil had known the young man well once. They were the same age and both of royal blood, so their paths crossing was inevitable. As children, they may have even been called friends. But they had both grown since those days. Daniil was no longer the long-haired girl she had once been, nor was Elias the the playful carefree boy she had known him as. Daniil paid little attention to rumors, but even she could deny the ones she had overheard at home in Athenia. Rumors that the boy she had once called friend had grown to become a man that fathered bastards, and had the mothers killed. She had not wished to believe them, but the few times they encountered each other since becoming adults made her question her own reservations. And now, from the mouths of these Colchians, she heard rumors and gossip that he had been up to more scandalous deeds.
'Athanasia and Elias are getting super friendly lately, it even looked like they kissed in the market the other morning.'
'That Elias is planning on proposing to Athanasia, I just know it.'
'Do you think Elias of Stravos and Athanasia of Kotas are already married?'
'Do you think Athanasia of Kotas is pregnant with Elias of Stravos' child yet?'
'Three days, a lot can happen in three days, Elias and Athanasia looked rather cozy as they snuck into the woods together.'
Why did it weigh on her so? Why did she care? Was it out of concern for a boy she had once called friend? Concern for the woman she might soon call the same? As she walked through the city streets, Daniil wrestled with these questions. What business of hers was it what the princess and her childhood friend did behind closed doors? It had no affect on her life. It held no pressing concern for her immediate wellbeing nor that of her family. And yet still, she could not push the thoughts from her mind. Could he have done it, truly? Could Athanasia? Could-
So occupied with her own thoughts, she had stopped paying attention to the path in which she was walking, and was startled from her musings as she felt the sensation of impact. She had bumped into someone. A glancing blow on the shoulder, of no concern, but still surprising. Her hands rubbed the shoulder in question, her voice raising before she could even identify who had done it. "Watch where you walk-"
It seemed the gods had a sense of ironic humor that particular day, for she identified the man she had collided with instantly, a hint of surprise entering her voice. "Elias." She cleared her throat, doing her best to keep her face neutral. "I had not expected to find you out here. I apologize." Her eyes went over him, questions still clear in her green eyes.

Elias was well-aware that there were rampant rumors flying from the mouth of the Colchian nobility. He was aware that Athanasia knew too—and she still invited him along with her, further sealing her fate. Ah, rumors might just be rumors, but Elias was a man with a reputation that spoke volumes when combined with such rumors as the ones they’ve created here in Colchis.
It’s almost a moment of pride, really. She’s the one he’s going to take. It isn’t love, necessarily, but the desire to possess the best—and of course, the only person better than Athanasia was Persephone, herself. The fact that Athanasia had royal blood, that a marriage between the two of them would further bind the Colchis and Athenia kingdoms to one another (or start a war, though he is not looking that far ahead, unable to see past his own desire for grandeur) is the tip of the ice burg on reasons that he wants her.
She was easy to manipulate, easy to find his way inside of her head and go from there… She was a power-hungry young woman and he was a man promising more power than she had, even in Colchis where women were allowed more of a say in things.
He was thinking about the next time he may see Athanasia, about the plans that were being set into motion… when he bumped right into someone. Familiar green eyes met his earthy hazel, and he tilted his head slightly, offering a charming smile.
“Daniil. No need to apologize, I was simply exploring Colchis before going into a meeting with some tradesmen.” He stated, studying her. Daniil had grown up into a bit of a rebel by Athenian standards, but Elias had never had fault with her. “How are you enjoying the Colchis air?” Small talk, idle talk, he was curious if she had heard the rumors—if she was going to bring them up. It seemed like the sort of thing she’d do.
