Fruits of the Sea Event - Hellas Closing: 6th September 2022 Every morning the fisherman of Athenia brave the waters of the Aegean. And when we say morning, we mean hours before any sunlight can be spied on the furthest horizon. When the dawn finally does make an appearance, the sailors and their ships are already returning to port, their latest catch still wriggling on the deck. For Athenians, fish are a staple of any diet and the crowds flock to the harbour every morning to haggle and barter for the best specimens. This event is located in the North Harbour of Athenia in Hellas. Our board description of the area is as follows: Where shipmen and sailors from all of the kingdom long to stay. The Athenian harbour is one of the grandest and most secure in the Grecian kingdom. This is due to most of Athenia's trade and money coming from the commercial ships that visit the realm and the sea-hauls that are brought into the city by boat.Come and join the potent-smelling chaos as shouts for prices, calls for new stock and the general squeals of outrage at the price of octopus are bandied about the air. Just watch the hem of your chiton and try not to hold your nose... it's rude. Important! - This event is set after our revamp time-jump. Please note the date: Kuklios, 672 BC. It is set two weeks after Her Evening Radiance. How to Join
-- This event is held in Athenia, Hellas which means a boat ride may be necessary to attend if your character is not native to Athenia, Roma or Ostjord. It takes one week (depending on weather) to sail from Colchis to Athenia, and 4-5 from Taengea to Athenia. Those from other Lands will need to sail or journey by land for nearly two weeks.
-- Upper Classes Royals of both sexes are welcome at this event. Not need for an invitation - simply turn up! This is an informal, lower class event so royals and nobles cannot be barred but also might not fancy the smell of fish and the risk of gutted bones around their nice sandals.
-- Middle Classes: Ditto noble houses.
-- Lower Classes: Retainers and guards of any attending royals and nobles will be present but otherwise the sky's the limit for lower class participation in this event. Are you a sailor, transferring cargoes of fish, are you the trader who then sells them on. Are you purchasing food stock for your family, selling net-mending services or the building of cages for crab catching? Are you meeting a friend who is one of these people and are now stuck in the fresh morning hubbub and smell of the sea? How to Not Join
If your Event calendar is looking a little full and you have too many threads to add another please be aware that you do not have to join an Event. They are purely voluntary. Here are a few ideas for how to navigate not attending so large an event:
-- All Classes: This is an informal event which means there is no reason your character must attend and no ramifications for not being present.
Event Timeline
This event is being held for a single morning (in the world of the characters). It is an informal but official, daily market of maritime goods and night-time hauls/catches. Fish is one of the most major foodstuffs for Athenians so dozens of people will swarm the harbour every morning for the freshest produce.
Like all of our events this one is member directed which means you can carry out whatever plot you wish to impact upon others in your proximity. Perhaps your character gets into a haggling match with a trader. Perhaps they slip and fall from the dock into the water! Perhaps they are injured when wagons and carts of produce are being trundled along. If you journey beyond the harbour, feel free to create a sub-thread in this board.
And if all fails and people get really stuck, fear not... there are curveballs waiting to heat things up if and when they are needed. For now though the floor is yours...
How Does It Work?
Event threads/boards work thusly: Your character can be a part of an event and create their own thread within that event if they wish to. However, in order to be allowed to make that thread, they must first post in this one. The Event continues through this primary event thread, allowing for side stories (if they are in a different location to other participants) to be carried out in side threads. All curveballs to hit this Event will be posted to all threads in the board, whether relevant or not, so that your characters have the choice to return to the main location/thread to explore this new development if they wish to.
When Moving to a Sub-Thread: Please add to your last message in this Event thread 'Continued in...' with a link to your new location.
When Returning to the Event Thread: Please ensure that your Sub-Thread is nicely wrapped up and clearly implies where your character is going. Add to your first message back in the Event thread 'Reentering from...' with a link to your sub-thread.
Please note that sub-threads are not required. You can participate in the Event thread for as long as you wish and remain here for the duration of the event. This event will close on the date above. At that time, this Event thread will be locked and closed. The other threads in this board will be allowed to continue at their writers' own pace. All threads within this board will be moved into the Northern Harbour board at the closure of this event. |
