Daniil waited until she knew the coast was clear and then snuck out of the house. She had to convince the servants to keep quiet on the matter when they wanted Pavlos to know, but she would have none of it. Especially today. Today she was seriously annoyed and unless she did something about it, she was likely to take it out on one of her sisters.
She let out a long annoyed sigh and headed to watch the men practice their sword work. She had her own short sword hidden under her gown. No need to draw attention. She paused and then quickly pulled her hair back and out of her face before she found a spot to watch, pulling out her sword to lay it next to her.

Maximus sighed as he wondered around the gardens. His father was meeting a nobleman named Palvos and he decided to bring Maximus along in order to have experience meeting people from other Kingdoms. Athenia was okay for the young boy though as soon as he left his mother, Maximus immediately missed her. "A warrior must focus on the path ahead of him rather than the people he'll be leaving behind." Maximus' father said during the journey. "Only the hard are considered Colchian warriors. Only the strong." During the trip, Maximus tried to be tough but it was nearly impossible.
When they finally arrived, Maximus was swarmed with servants who kept welcoming the young boy to Athenia. Maximus admittedly spent most of his time sleeping and not looking out of the carriage window to see Athenia. Maximus' father immediately left to discuss internal matters leaving Maximus alone in the gardens. The flowers placed here did look beautiful compared to the ones back home. While walked though, Maximus felt a burning sensation inside his stomach. He still missed home.
Just then he saw what looked like a boy holding a sword. A grin spread across Maximus' face some familiarity at last! "Excuse me!" Maximus said running towards the alleged boy. "You're practicing your swordfighting?! Could I join?!" Maximus kept grinning as he extended his hand. "We can be like brothers! My name is Maximus of Colchis!"

Daniil watched the new arrival as he moved through the garden. Her head tilted as he hazel eyes followed him. He did not look like he was from the kingdom. She would have to behave until she figured out what he wanted.
He didn't look like he was older then her, but from where she sat, she couldn't be too sure.
Her intrigue grew as she watched him take off and run towards her. She froze and watched him and she slowly broke into a smile and then a soft laugh.
"I am watching right now. you are welcome to join me if you wish. I am Daniil of Marikas. And we could be."

"Oh you're a girl!"
Maximus was taken aback by the girls voice, he didn't expect a girl to practice swordsmanship. Maximus' father taught him that while women could fight in Colchian army, they were regulated as archers. Still it was refreshing to see someone training. "It's good to meet you Danil," Maximus said smiling shyly.
The boy looked around the gardens and at the stick Danil was wielding. "So Danil," Maximus said putting his hands behind his back and looking at the grass. "What do you know about swordplay? Show me!"

The indignant outcry of her new friend made Daniil blink before she said "I am a girl. What about it?".
Her shoulders squared and her chin came up sharply in what many would take as open defiance. And I am a Princess so, get over it. she thought as she watched him. If any of her family was here they would have taken the young man to task or worse for how he spoke to her.
"You are from where? Are you visiting?" she asked him openly curious, though her tone held a note of what some could label as disdain or annoyance, a trick she learned from her elders when they were not a. She liked meeting people from new places and in turn learning about their homes and people. She would often ask her Grandfather Parnos about his journeys and when Uncle Rafi was in a good mood, she would ask him too out of sheer curiosity.
"Nice to meet you as well Maximus." she said finally recalling that she had manners and she blushed to the roots of her dark hair, her face turning the shade of a beet.
She picked up her sword and idly twirled it as she glanced around the garden. Daddy will have to have words with whomever he assigned to upkeep. The climbing plants look as if they need help. she thought.
She got up and sneezed, her grip on the hilt of her sword tightening in response, though she did not make contact with her short sword.
She looked at her new friend at his question and nodded slowly. "I am just learning so I don't know much." She took a step to the left and showed him the footwork that she had been working on for the last few days. Her sword danced in the air with her a mix of slices, parries, and lunges. She seemed to forget everyone and everything as she moved totally focused on her work.
Once she was done she stopped and bent over and put her hands on her knees, the sword sliding free and landing on the grass with a soft thud as her breathing came out in gasps. She slowly turned he gaze and looked at Maximus with a raised brow in an unspoken question.

"I am a girl. What about it?" Maximus scratched while raising an eyebrow towards Danil. "Nothing," he said giving a nervous laugh. "I'm just happy to meet someone who loves to swordfight as much as I do!"
"You are from where? Are you visiting?" Danil asked. "I'm from Colchis," Maximus answered trying to regain confidence. "I'm traveling with my father who is meeting someone here." The young boy then sighed. "My father also wanted me to explore other kingdoms," he said. "To understand their customs and traditions. Though I really miss home sometimes." Maximus fought back the tears that threatened to fall out. It was like his father told him: "A Colchian solider does not cry."
"Nice to meet you as well Maximus." Danil said with a smile spread across her face. "It's nice to meet you too Danil!" Maximus responded giving a force smile. "Athenia seems like a wonderful place so far! I hope I can adjust to it!"
Danil then picked up her training sword and began swinging it. "I am just learning so I don't know much." She said trying to show Maximus her footwork. The young boy frowned, it looked sloppy so far but he held his tongue. Danil continued to show off her sword skills until she fell on the ground stared at Maximus awkwardly. Instinctively, Maximus ran towards the fallen girl and held his hand out for her to grab.
"I don't mean to insult you," he said trying to choose his words very carefully. "But there's some techniques that you're not picking up. I can teach you them if you like."

Daniil instinctively laughed at Maximus reaction and said "I do apologize if I upset you. You would not be the first to think I was a boy from my name. If you wish to know why you would have to ask my father as to why he gifted me with a boy's name. And I am curious. Who is your father and who might he be meeting?"
She nodded as Maximus told her about the why of his visit. "That sounds like a good thing. You learn how to get along with others that are not like you. I doubt my father would allow me to travel so alone. He'd likely as my Uncle or Grandfather to come with me."
She laughed again and said "Athenia is beautiful and it should not take much for you to get used to it." she assured him with an emphatic nod.
Daniil looked up at Maximus not even embarrassed by her fall. She worked to hide the pain as her knee hit a rock that was hidden in the dirt that had been under her feet. She reached out a hand and slid it into his, panting. She lifted a brow and said "Yes? I would like to learn if you would like to teach me Maximus." she braced herself and lets him pull her to her feet.
Beyond them she could hear the sound of the men practicing and found herself wondering in Pavlos had ever just stood back and watched his youngest daughter work to turn her work with her sword into a dance of sorts even though he disapproved of her following this path.
