I pray you will forgive the informal greeting in my salutation. Giving that we have been through as much as we have, I would like to this of you less as a friend and more of a sister. Gods know I do not need more, for the 4 that I have is more than enough for one woman. But, in your case, I will always welcome one more sweet life to care for. I wish to protect you like I do my own blood sisters, and because of that, the title has been dropped.
Besides, what I am about to share with you is something I would only be divulged to my sisters.
I am in Colchis, in the house of Kotas for the foreseeable future. Now, try not to drop the parchment as you read that. The weather took a turn, and we had to find the nearest port. Thank the Gods that we were only a few leagues from Colchis. I had first tried to stay at my family's home there, but it would seem that the Fates desire further amusement. I did what I should never have done, Sweet Emilia. I wrote to the Queen. I must have been mad, my mind still uneasy from the sea. But I had hoped to send sweet Jo with the letter, for her to get a quick reply and turn back so we could leave in the morning.
Have you met Prince Zanon? It turns out, he has a wicked sense of humor, and most younger siblings do. No offense to you. You are the youngest, not the younger. Trust me when I say that there is a difference in the matter.
I digress.
Prince Zanon seemed to think that it would be amusing to surprise Prince Vangelis with my presence. He didn't expect me to appear at his bedroom, so when I did, it caused quite a shock. But the prince took it all in stride, and our conversation was most pleasant indeed. While I understand how he has gotten the name of the 'Stone Prince', I have found him to be anything but. I know you find him to be a bit terrifying, but he really does have a good heart. He just lacks the finer social mannerisms you and I have had taught to us from birth. His education has centered around his military career, while ours have been far more pleasant. He is a man you want on your side and will be a good ally to your sister when the times comes. Be afraid of him, if you will, but trust him, too.
It would seem that I am to be here for at least the next week. My uncle has written to me to let me know that the weather is too poor for travel. I shall have to stay a bit longer, under their home. The familial home cannot be opened due to a lack of servants to do so. My uncle has sent 2 fine horses as a gift of thanks for the Kotas family and their kindness in housing me until the storms pass. Colchis is a far different kingdom than I have ever experienced. But in its harsh landscape, there is a far greater strength within them. The family has opened brought up their personal stores to share with the people, and I hope to assist in the dispersal of the goods. It is the least I can do to show my own gratitude in their hospitality, even if it has been forced upon them.
I pray that everything is going for you and your sister. Please write to me soon. While exploring Colchis has kept me occupied, I find myself missing your company. May Aphrodite keep you in her good fortune and may the gods smile down on your kingdom.
Your most affectionate adopted sister,
Selene
