Dearest friend,
Even though our homes are not close, perhaps, this is a case of absence making the heart fonder? I find the Athenian culture to be steadfast, fundamental, straightforward, and grounding in comparison to our Taengean ways. You remind me of an oak... while deeply rooted they are also a place of comfort with their sheltering limbs from the sun and rain. They are a pillar of strength. The world needs more oaks born of acorns.
I am… for the most part, fine though I am mortified to hear that the tale has been spread. I will admit though that the way you paraphrase the barbs quite thrills me all the way down to my toes. It’s far more romantic sounding then it was. But I could be lost so easily in the way you retold it… I do not know if my heart could stand hearing it from the barbs if you admit they tell it better. I don’t know how they could have, but I also do not think you would lie to me either. Either way, know that I am your beautiful letter has made putty of me. I have claimed to be the world’s most unromantic romantic, but the barb’s tale you retold might argue with that. It was beautiful… perhaps you’ve missed a calling in the theater.
Is it terribly wicked of me to say that… I feel like everything in my life has led me to you and that day that we met at the horse fair. All of my choices… my heart breaks, regrets, every decision I have ever made… If I had done even one thing differently I might never have met you that day. Knowing you has proved to be one of the highlights in my mundane existence here in Acharist. We shall be friends as far as I am concerned until we’ve both parted this world and into the next.
You’ve broken poor Tino’s heart...and mine too… by not being able to visit this spring, but we all know how busy you are and pray that the Gods will grace us with your presence as soon as is possible. Whatever becomes of the futures between us, rest assured you will always be welcome whether it is this summer or ten summers from now, my friend. Please, never doubt that. My home, wherever it may be is always open to you.
You sir, are impressive in your speech… in your letters, and standing next to you. You have that ability to make people pull their shoulders back, to stand taller, and want to be a better person. That in my book makes you a rather impressive man. Repeat that back to yourself in moments of doubt.
Missing you more this month,
Lady E
