My Dearest Basilides,
I managed to snatch your missive from Mother and I was more than excited to read your message. As you know, I absolutely love gold, so I would always pick gold. Silver is so inferior in comparison, don't you agree? Though I know it remains a popular choice in the nobility, wearing it makes me feel as if I am second-rate. Me, second-rate. What a silly thought! Honestly, I amuse myself at times. But on to more serious discussion.
I am sorry to hear that your troupe has disbanded, however, I would be lying if I said that I was unhappy about it. Now that you're a merchant, you can spend more time in Vasiliádon! I'm sure that Mother wouldn't mind if you stayed at the manor every so often. Our family loves you, as you know. You must let me know when you come to visit next and we can go on a shopping trip! You know how much I value your input, after all.
Anyway, there are more important things to talk about. Mother has told me that there is going to be a huge celebration at court for some Egyptian envoy, and I thought you might like to accompany me. I don't know what all is planned, but I would hate for you to miss out. I know you love a party almost as much as I do! And I should love for you to keep me company, seeing as the ladies at court always seem to have it out for me. But what can I do? It's not my fault that I was blessed with such beauty. Jealousy truly makes a monster out of anyone, it seems, but I digress.
I hope to see you at the celebration. Even with the intrigue of Egyptian men, it would be so boring without you.
Forever Your Loving Friend,
Lady Nana of Leventi
