Off from festivals and events, the Children of Mnemosnye really had scarce else to do other then plan their next show. For those who have been in the art of performance for many years like Zephyrus, it was a time to rest and recuperate from their sport before their next long event which - if the trapeze artist heard correctly, would happen very soon. Rumors spread that the King would announce a festival soon, and the Children had been busy preparing as it was.
Like Zephyrus had that afternoon. With the copious amounts of muscles he would grow from the aerial practices he did, he had to do an equal amount of stretches to ensure he remained limber enough to perform most of his other tricks.
The afternoon would find him in his room, lying chest down on the floor with his legs bent over his legs, toes touching the ground, as he worked on getting deeper into said position, something that would help greatly as he worked on more tricks and stunts for his aerial hoop.
His hair was tied up, the curly locks forming a cute tuft right at the top of his head. His body was covered in the long sleeved black tunic and pants Zephyrus would favor everyt ime he trained.
Hard at work, he cursed when the door to his quarters was suddenly slammed open. Shocked by the interuption, Zephyrus rolled over, and shouted when he slammed his little toe on a side table. Immediately, the boy grabbed his toe with a loud moan, before glaring at the intruder.
"Phineus, ever heard of knocking, for Zeus's sake?!" he snapped, his face contorted in a pained scowl. "What do you want?"

Phineus had an idea. An idea that could not and would not wait and it required Zephyrus' talents. They would soon be performing for all of Athenia, and the king. The patronage that a positive performance would bring in could launch them into the stratosphere and beyond. But in order to get this done, they must begin the practice now so that it could be done by the "safety codes" Bas insisted on imposing on them. Safety was their number one priority. Or, as Phin liked to repeat, safety was their number one priority...while holding up two of his fingers to indicate its actual standing on his list of priorities. Obviously showmanship was number one.
The door was closed, a fact that in his determined state he didn't allow to get in his way. Shoving it open, he had opened his mouth to begin speaking before he even took note of what sort of position Zeph had himself in.
"So for this festival we need- why would I knock, I pay you don't I? Anyway, we need something big. Something spectacular that will blow the audience's minds. The storyline is moving in its own right, but I've been thinking effect wise. When the lovers are parted by their parents, I want a symbolic ring of fire as the sun and you'll be doing your act on it."
He blinked as the idea left his lips and looked around the room and then to his young troupe member who seemed to have sprawled in quite the inconvenient manner on the floor. Actors and acrobats, they could never be left on their own. Dancers though, those were the ones who managed to keep themselves together. Singers, well. Far be it from him to make too harsh a judgement even mentally. They would find him and make his life hell for just thinking it.

His toe was still throbbing even as Phineus started speaking. It was as if the producer of their little troupe never actually thought of anything before he did... did he? Zephyrus was fond of Phineus, don't get him wrong. He had the most spectacular ideas for things sometimes, and the whole troupe had him to thank as the Children of Mnesmonye grew in name.
But sometimes, Zephyr really wished he would just pause for a moment.
Rolling his eyes when the producer completely disregarded the need to knock - what just because he paid Zephyr, suddenly he had all rights to his privacy? - Zephyr groaned as he rolled the big toe he had stubbed, even as he listened to his director's words. When his mind eventually processed what Phineus was requesting of him though, all his focus on his injured toe fled, as he stared at the other with large, bulging eyes.
"Ring of fire.. what?" he echoed like a fish with his mouth open. For a second or two, it was if Zephyrus was frozen in shock, before he scrambled up, toe be damned. "I am... swinging... on a ring of fire?" His mind immediately had the image in his head. In his mind, of course it would be spectacular. The people of Athenia would not expect an actual human to be performing tricks on fire, and that in itself is something that would be mind blowing.
But last he checked, Zephyrus was definitely not fireproof, talented as he may be.
"Is there... a portion of the ring that I could hold that would... maybe, not be on fire?" he hesitantly asked, in a somewhat hopeful manner. Sure, he's been through many of Phineus' crazy ideas. From vaulting on to a charging bull using his horns, to scaling the walls of the Agora with no safety harness, to even performing his acrobat act on a fire-eater, both at the same time. But swinging... on fire? "You haven't asked Bas, have you?" came Zephyrus's next question, something that he obviously already knows the answer to.

"Yes, ring of fire. Please keep up Zephyrus."
Phin tried to mask his irritation at the lad's slowness. What was so hard to grasp about the concept? A ring, with the fire around it, Zeph hanging off it doing his tricks.
"You would portray the sun and we would have two people raising and lowering it in accordance with the passage of time while you spin about."
His tone was full of excitement for the idea, eyes glazed over and clearly picturing the moment before him. He could see the crowd cheering in awe as Zeph spun above them from the ring of flames, a glorious feat never before accomplished there in Athenia, stunning all who might provide him the funds to continue the work of the theatre. It was a look quickly dashed from his face when the acrobat tried to bring logic into it. He hated when people started pointing out logic, it was so much less fun and more practical than he wanted.
"Leather gloves? We can keep it short I suppose, a few tricks just to show them we can do it. Perhaps suspend you over a bucket of water so if necessary you can let go....ooh yes...then you could make a splash as you descended, and everyone would be in awe as the sun fell, I'll write a response for them just in case..."
His hands demonstrated the motion, one fist plummeting into the palm of his other before both flew outward to mimic the splash. Phin waved both hands at Zeph as he brought Bas into this. Bas was a killjoy, his logic could ruin a vision.
"Better to ask forgiveness than permission. Bas would never let us do this."

Phineus had always been in his own world, that much Zephyrus would know. Their troupe leader was eccentric in more ways then one, and because they all knew it, half the time it was Bas ensuring that none of them got into any bodily dangerous situations, especially when Phineus seems to have no sense for safety.
At least, until Bas left for business that is.
When the eccentric troupe master had began to explain his overarching vision, Zephyrus would be lying if he didn't admit to being more then a little intrigued. Because what made Phineus's eccentric ideas worst, was that the daring trapeze artist almost always went with it, unless Bas was nearby to stop it. After many years of polishing his art, Zephyr was finding that less and less things could challenge him, and his brain thrived on the adrenaline of challenge.
And a ring on fire? That was definitely a challenge.
"Leather gloves. Right. Doesn't have to be that short... how long will it take to get leather pants, you think?" the boy's excitement was clear as his shining eyes met Phineus with a grin. "No need a bucket of water, that kills the suspense. The sun should remain in the sky because... sunset represents time too, no?"
It was almost a deathwish, since Zephyrus was essentially asking to be lowered to the ground before the fire was put out... which was a terrible idea, for while leather was fire resistant, it wasn't fireproof.
Bas was not going to be happy when he heard this.
As he looked up, Zephyrus's question died on his lips as Phineus walked out mumbling something or the other about being busy,a nd the young trapeze artist cursed at the distraction of his troupe manager. What was he supposed to do now? Well,no choice then. And a small smile curled on his lips. Never give him a challenge. Because Zephyrus of Aetaea flourished in them.
