Harsh. A bit colder. But the initial standoffishness at her betrothal to Vangelis had quickly dissolved into an odd sort of comfort. They didn’t seem to hate her, but even after what she had done for the people back when the storms had so violently hit, they were still apprehensive about the new princess. And Selene was certain it had something to do with her own nerves.
Bravery was a trait that Colchian seemed to place a lot of focus on. And while she felt her reactions had been on par for what Vang would have expected, Selene was sure that the people saw it differently. After a year of marriage, they were finally accepting of her. They had stopped thinking of her as a silly Taegnean and started to appreciate her warmth and loving demeanor. She was like their beloved queen, but softer. And Yanni had praised her, knowing that with time and practice, she would be a good queen.
Even if she had yet to produce an heir for the throne.
A few months after they’d wed, she had been sure that she was with child. Her monthly was fairly regular, and after realizing it was a week late, the princess couldn’t help but get her hopes up a bit. Cramping that night, followed by the telltale stain on their bedding, had sent her into a bit of depression. Vang chalked it up to her normal mood swings, a bit unaware of her strife. It wasn’t until she’d gone several more months without a child that she told him about the initial pregnancy.
Steadfast, he promised it would happen. He held her while she poured her heart out to him and comforted her while she worried about her own future. In her mind, she was failing him as a wife and future queen. Her one job was to give him a child, and she had yet to fulfill it. There were whispers around the court that she was infertile, and she had even heard some of the courtiers suggested that the Prince start looking to another woman. Selene may make a good queen, but at the end of the day, Colchis needed a blood heir.
Still, she had a role to play, and the princess refused to bow and hide. Vang wouldn’t allow it.
It was the celebration of the rule of the King and Queen, and Selene had taken charge in the planning. The room did not disappoint, with candles covering every surface, flowers strategically placed so not to make the night overly feminine, but to allow the sweet smell of magnolias and roses fill the room. Being a Leventi meant that the finest wine was served in excess. And even though Colchis didn’t have the same relaxed parties as Taengea, the night was lively. Music played, the crowd mingled. And she, in her element, was radiant. Dressed in a light blue chiton, jewels forming an invisible crown within her thick blond curls, Selene was the perfect hostess. While she enjoyed the company of her husband, of being at his side to try and force a smile from his lips, the Leventi was a master at working the room without his aid.
She bounced between family members, pulling Zanon towards his wife to make sure he complimented the dark-haired beauty on her looks for the evening. It didn’t take her long to convince Asia to stop sulking and enjoy the wine and conversation of the finer nobles in the room. And she was making a point to engage each of her brothers-in-law in gentle moments. Yiannis took a bit of convincing, but he danced with her. And Silas didn’t mind getting her harp so that she could play in the Kotas’ families honor.
And she hoped that she was making them proud, in this room full of their people.

This is a game of thrones, if you do not play to win then often you will lose your position and become inferior to someone else. That was lesson one from Nethis’s father, she had learned the game at a young age, so there isn’t much that can surprise the, now, older politician. Nethis will always play to win and she will rarely play fair, though it isn’t her fault that she is cunning and intelligent… It is a war for survival, Thanasi House will see the light of day if Nethis is still living, but the next generation will be more than prepared. Everything Nethis is doing and will do is for the security of the next generation, therefore the lives that are taken will be replaced by the lives of her blood. Strategy is everything and it takes patience to get everything that you want, therefore Nethis is playing the long game. It is hard to defeat someone who is several plays ahead, and it's even harder when you do not know their motives. Nethis is very specific on who she discloses information to and she is very careful in not to give too much, because the only person who should be on the same page as Nethis is herself.
People die, it is apart of the natural sequence and it is also the inevitable. Even Nethis will one day fall and plunder to the Underworld, but that day isn’t anywhere near. At this current matter, Nethis has been playing the hand of Thanatos, the god of death. The Lady of Thanasi House has the reputation of being a witch in most Kingdoms, especially within Midas the people know her as the elder witch. The Thanasi sisters all are rumored as being witches, whether it’s true or not, Nethis doesn’t make any qualms to deny or to affirm. The reason why Nethis has been scrutinized as a witch is because of her mysterious atmosphere, and there is a trail of bodies that appear every time a Thanasi appears. The reasons why people die by the hands of Thanasi is because they have something that they need or has done something that was worth the penalty of death. Nethis will not hesitate to kill someone, mercy was not something ingrained into her like it was in her other sisters, because the elder sibling will poison a man or woman without blinking. No one is safe.
Nethis was cloaked in black chiton that covered her body from head to toe as she walked in the dead of the night. Tonight’s meeting had plans to deal with a certain issue that has been nagging Nethis for a while… House Kotas has always been a pain in Nethis’s side and she would consider them enemies, but she cherishes the marriage between Thanasi and Kotas because she could keep a close eye on her enemies. Evras has had a child by the Prince Zanon of Kotas, thank the gods that it happened, but the likelihood that Vangelis of Kotas and his woman, Selene of Leventi to become pregnant was too close of a possibility. Nethis wants her nephew to have the highest position in power as possible, and for that to happen someone must have to sacrifice pregnancies. Nethis doesn’t want to kill any relative of the Leventi House, because of her ties with Lord Fotios of Leventi… The two are powerful minds and severing ties with him would not be something Nethis would be happy about. Although, Selene of Leventi must die. For her family to further encroach House Kotas, Vangelis can never have his heir.
Nethis appeared upon a corner as she awaited the presence of her connect. Once the woman appeared, a smile appeared upon Nethis as she allowed the woman approached her. Nethis spoke softly and quickly to limit contact with the woman, “Give the vial to Liandrene. Say it is from Alexandria.” One of the many aliases Nethis will use when she is working with underground people, rarely does she ever show her face. Nethis is never going to make it easy for anyone to trace anything back to her, at least now that she has the practice. The woman nodded as she slipped the vial into her sleeve, before the two women parted ways. Nethis was smiling as she knew the effects of the poison as she could hardly wait to see it in play. There has been only one time that she has ever used that same poison, though it was so long ago she is sure people hardly remember. But the death was tragic, horrifying to watch.
Receiving an invitation to the celebration of the new King and Queen, Nethis made a strong appearance as she wore a simple white chiton that was adorned with gold. She wore a golden girdle across her waist that showed her small frame, and her shoulders were bare as the chiton hung on them. Nethis wore her long black hair in an elaborate bun, before making her way inside she was already meeting the eyes of people that simply were not pleased of her presence. Does not matter, Nethis has come for a single reason and one reason only. Someone was going to die that night and she was going to be there to see it through.

As the party continued through the night, Selene did her best to talk to everyone in the room. It was a part of her job, part of what was expected as a princess. Evras had taken her under her wing early on, showing just what a Colchian princess was to do. Having been bred to be a Queen, it didn’t take Selene long to pick up the subtle difference from Taegnea and Colchis. As the night wore on, her sister in law had ducked out of the party early. As a new mother, Evras had a duty to her new child, one that she took seriously.
It left Selene to continue to host the party, but it wasn’t something that she minded.
A small crisis in the kitchens pulled her briefly from the party, so she missed Nethis entering the party. The eldest Thanasi hadn’t welcomed Selene to Colchis like the rest of the family did, but she didn’t take it personally. Zanon had explained the family’s odd ways and insisted that she not take it personally. The longer Selene spent in Midas, the more she had hoped that the woman would warm up to her. She didn’t realize her desire to keep her from producing an heir. She didn’t realize that the goal was to bring the blood of the Thanasi family to the throne of Colchis.
As long as she was childless, the line would fall there. But Selene didn’t believe anyone so motivated by greed and power that they would interfere with the Gods.
Almost thirty minutes later, the blonde entered back into the room. The party was still going, and Selene couldn’t hide the smile on her face as she moved to her husband’s side. It wasn’t until almost another hour had passed that she felt eyes on her, causing her to turn and take notice of Nethis. Selene hadn’t wanted to slight the woman, but as she started to head towards her for a greeting, Yanni drew her attention into a conversation with a few senator’s wives.
It seemed like it was hours later before she finally got a moment to herself, making herself a plate. Finding a seat next to her husband, Selene didn’t realize that Liandrene had placed a cup of wine at her side, didn’t realize that the scene at been set for her death. no, she was too focused on her hunger and her husband to worry about anything. She finished the wine, so rich it hid the slight bitterness of poison well. Her stomach clenched for just a moment, but it was gone as soon as it was there, so Selene brushed it aside as cramps for monthly.
As she stood, she swayed a bit. Vangelis held her elbow, worried for a moment that she may have overdone it for the night. But Selene brushed off his concern, regaining her balance and searching for Zanon, who had promised her a dance.
