Daniil threw back the covers and stretched as Melissa popped her head in the room. "Time to break my fast and tell me do you know if Uncle Rafi is awake yet Melissa? I am in need of a new outfit I will go shopping today if he is awake an home." she said as she shifted to a sitting position and swung her legs over the side of the bed. Melissa nodded and brought not only breakfast into view, but also a basin of warm lavender water and a cloth so that Daniil could give herself a quick wash before she dressed for the day, something the youngest of the Marikas did every morning without fail. She knew too that there would likely be a second one, empty, and a pitcher of water, so that she could wash her hair as well because her dark locks were much easier to deal with when they were wet.
"I do believe he is awake though I would go check if you wished it my lady." the servant said. Daniil nodded and climbed out of bed to determine her dress for the day. She chose a light goldenrod yellow peplos decorated with a green border of ivy leaves and then found a light green himation to wear over it. She found a darker green girdle that had matching pins and she knew she had matching ribbons to put in her hair.
As she arranged her clothing for the day she found herself thinking back to the day she had spent with Emlia learning how to match and choose her own clothes. Melissa noticed he colors and retrieved a pair of deep green slippers for her mistress's feet.
"If he is about, I will invite him personally." she told her as she dug into her breakfast that consisted of pancakes, fruit and cheese with watered down wine. Melissa nodded and kept busy making up her mistress' bed. Once Daniil was sated she helped her clean up and then did her dark hair. Once Daniil was satisfied she went in search of her Uncle Rafi. When she finally found him she said "Uncle? Would you care to go shopping with me? I am in need of a new gown and thought that you might like to go with me to help me pick it out.
She gave him a smile and waited for a reply and out of the corner of her eye, caught a glimpse of servants scurrying around doing various things and she knew some were going to head and prep their horses.
Once they were ready to go she was beaming and looking forward to the trip. Rafi was known for having a good eye for things and so she trusted his judgement, but she was also hoping to find a glimpse of the tall handsome stranger that she saw at the late King's funeral. He intrigued her to no end.b
She was still grinning when they arrived at the agora, the busy market center of the kingdom. It was busy and noisy, like always and she rather enjoyed it. Lately she was actually enjoying the act of being out and being seen....

Daniil was in luck. It had been a fair while since Rafail had last embarked on a shopping trip and, as a result, he had been itching to take a visit to the marketplace for some time now. Truth be told, when his niece had approached him with intentions for the pair of them to take such a trip together, he had already been making preparations to leave the Marikas household. Usually, he might not have been so inclined to accept the invitation, but Rafail had supposed there was nothing wrong with accompanying Daniil to purchase a dress: then, at least, he could ensure that whatever she chose was something he deemed suitable. The girl had always been prone to bad decisions in that department, but now, at least, it appeared she was starting to move in the right direction.
"I am glad you're finally choosing to make some effort with your wardrobe," he had told his niece as they had mounted their horses, although the rest of their journey was relatively silent. The man had never been entirely keen on conversing when he was riding, preferring the peace and quiet for the sole reason that he had always felt silence when riding made him appear much more impressive. Women did not want to see a pretty man on an attractive horse chatting away with some young woman when he could otherwise pose so regally.
They arrived at the Agora in good time, and Rafail slid elegantly from atop his horse, waiting for his niece to do the same before he passed Arion's reins to one of the lingering servants. "Keep him safe. If anything happens to him then on your head be it." He turned on his heel, gesturing for Daniil to follow as he glanced over the stalls and led her towards a particular one that displayed a variety of colourful cloths. "I saw some lovely fabric when last I was here. The blue should suit your complexion perfectly - we'll have something made to complement your figure. Perhaps then we should be able to find you a fitting husband."

"How about this one, my lord?" the merchant asked.
His request came out on a pillow, borne by its own slave. The next chain was long, intricately knotted silver. The pendant itself had a mother of pearl inlay. At the center was polished malachite in all its brilliant swirling green. Even in the shade, it could still catch the glimmer of the afternoon sun. Just as promised, this would catch the eye of any onlooker. The perfect compliment for a wellborn lady's peplos. There was no doubt the piece was worth bargaining for. He should have been happy.
It was, after all, the kind of thing he had come for. Reassessing the trade contacts between the kingdoms of Athenia and Colchis. Part of that was political, and the recently-concluded succession vote and funeral would have implications. But just as important was the practical aspect. How good was their product? How skilled their artisans? Whose merchants would be favored, when the two met? Most fundamentally, was there anything they had that people would want? Today's evidence was uniformly favorable. The purchase would be tangible proof that this was worth pursuing. Exactly what Vangelis had sent him to establish.
"Perfect to woo her, yes?" the merchant egged on.
There it was. The assumption was natural. He was beyond the age where it would be reasonable. It was outright expected. He should have been buying for his wife. Perhaps purchasing a trinket for his children as well. Except he, their national embarrassment, was in no such position. He preferred skullduggery. Or "preferred" anyway. Certainly it might have been easier to hide just now than explain he was purchasing for Yanni. A virtual man-child, still trapped in his father's house, still waiting for courage or charm or responsibility. Perhaps all of the above. A sort of misery that was hard to talk around. So, instead, only bit his lip as if he was considering carefully. Lifted up his hands as if to better frame the item. Then, after asking them to hold it up, started taking steps backwards for better perspective.
Blindly backwards, for something that he'd already decided on. It took up enough of his mental energy that he didn't pay attention to what was around him. Oh, he noted stepping out of the stall. He was fighting of an urge to just run down the street. But he was less attuned to those around him. Including, presently, the woman he would slam into thoughtlessly.

Daniil was over the moon when Rafail agreed to go shopping with her. She was doubly pleased to find that her uncle was in a very good mood.
She smiled at her uncle and blushed lightly at his complement on her appearance. "Thank you Uncle. I was hoping that I could avail you of your ability to choose things that compliment the wearer. And in all honesty, it has been a long time since we did something like this." she said to him softly.
She carefully mounted her horse and arranged her dress around her. She knew better then to make chit chat with her uncle as they rode. She sat up in an almost regal posture as they made the short journey to the agora.
She took in the time to admire her uncle as he dismounted his horse. If there was one thing to be said about Rafi, he had an amazing flair for the dramatic. She tilted her head as she watched him give the reins to the servants. She understood the threat well and often made similar ones regarding her own mount, Muse.
Both horses were champions and neither would take it well if something happened to them. Slowly she dismounted and passed her reins to another slave as she gave him a look that echoed her uncle's words.
As Rafi turned on his heel, she turned to follow him, and looking every inch a high born lady. At his motion, she moved to follow him with a smile and she kept a pace or two behind him as they moved and he told her about the blue fabric that he saw here on a past visit.
She had always liked the color, but always had doubts of how she would look in it. She found herself wondering what Yiannis would think of the color on her. She found herself wondering what her uncle would do when he discovered the friendship that had blossomed between the pair and that was quickly flying on wings to more then that.
Daniil was pretty sure that if Yiannis asked Pavlos for her, he just might consider it and likely be shocked in the progress that the request came out of the blue like one of Zeus's lightening bolts. She was silently amused at the idea that Rafi just might be surprised to find that Daniil had found herself a new man and without any help from her family.
At the mention of finding herself a fitting husband, Daniil tossed her head back and just laughed. "From your lips to Lady Aphrodite's ears Uncle. Now where is this blue fabric at? And what do you think of myself in red?"
Daniil about jumped out of her skin at the unfamiliar voice thanks to the fact that her mind was elsewhere. She stopped and then turned to look at the speaker, curious.
She looked at the necklace in his hand and smiled before she looked over at her uncle. The mother of pearl was gorgeous and complemented the knotted silver chain. She was quietly impressed at the jeweler's skill. She was also intrigued by the man as well. She could not ever recall meeting anyone that looked like him, so he set off her intrinsic curiosity, but because they were in public, she did her best to act and behave as a lady should.
Danii looked at her uncle and said casually to him, "What do you think Uncle? It is beautiful is it not?" Her hazel gaze was on her uncle so Daniil did not see the collision happen, but her head quickly snapped around when she heard the woman react......
