Unlike last time, Naf wasn't alone as she sat in the outdoor cafe in Paris, at walking distance from the Eiffel Tower. She'd even managed to buy a few new outfits and some jewelry, as well as some souvenirs for Aneksi. who was being watched by her cousin Gavriela.
Her father would love it here, as it was the birthplace of so many great philosophers, next to Greece. She wondered if later she might be able to get into one of the former meeting salons to take some pictures. Not that Naf was overly great at photography, but she'd love to get some shots of a place where these great minds had often met. She wondered if some of the modern minds still met today in the outdoor cafes of Paris.
This time was also different because she was feeling braver. Having survived one trip here and home, she felt more confident that she could do it again. She sipped a glass of Pinot Grigio carefully, lest any of it spill. Maybe it was the tinge of orange flavor in it, but Naf loved Pinot Grigio. She just wished for once that someone hadn't filled the glass full enough to almost cause a spill if one wasn't watching.
Tonight, after she took her father's pictures, she'd like to hit the town. Maybe she and her friends could find a dance club. From all she'd read last time, Paris was famous for those too. She still feared someone drugging her drink if she left it alone, but otherwise, why not take chances tonight?
She turned to the person in the next chair.
"I've found a cute pair of flats and a Louis Vuitton purse." Her father would probably flip at the price, even with his being a respected jeweler, but now that Naf wasn't so afraid, she felt she needed something to celebrate her new courage. The combination of the wine and the scent of springtime in the air made her feel a little lightheaded. Or maybe it was thinking about her father's reaction to the price of that handbag! Either way, maybe she'd better stick to water after this glass. Or lattes. Lattes were good too.
"What did you get?" she asked her friend.
