Dear lovers of writing,

Whether you have just recently discovered roleplaying or are looking for a new writing home with a welcoming feel, get ready to have your hopes met with Aeipathy, a historical roleplay with options for both canon characters and for new and original characters.

While at first glance Aeipathy's extensive lore might seem a bit intimidating, it is all easy to navigate and the staff and the members of Aeipathy are always willing to help if you have any questions. For me, the lore and detailed thought put into the different lands and groups of people gave me more ideas for my characters and also for threads between my characters and others.

As for the canon characters, there is a lot of variety in them. Taking a canon gives options for new members to play a character with tons of connections already in place and a plot that can be expanded upon in whatever way the writer who takes that canon likes. For example, the blurb for my character Olympia indicates that she has a secret lover. I decided that I wanted this lover to be female and make Olympia a lesbian, but I could have easily decided to do this plot any other way that I wanted to.

As someone who was shy, seeing that Aeipathy had many active members was something that made me a little nervous. What if my voice went unheard? What if I tried to plot with older members, and they ignored me? Thankfully, everyone at Aeipathy is very welcoming and happy to see newcomers arriving and get plotting with new characters. Being integrated into the story of Aeipathy was easy because all of the members were very friendly and happy to help me with my character and coming up with new plot ideas.

To summarise, Aeipathy has been a place where I feel comfortable to explore writing new things, as well as a place where I have made new friends. I am incredibly grateful that I managed to find it, and I hope that you will be too.

To my dearest pen pal whom I have never met and yet long to get to know,

I can never decide how to begin my letters to you. As I sit here, pen in hand, amidst a barrage of news about famine, duplicity, and war, I remember our adventures in the beautiful Hellas; a patch of land so vividly constructed in my imagination by words alone. Words written by your hand, and by mine, and by the community who can turn words into masonry, fabric, and even into life itself.

As I write this, I realise how doubtful you must be of the authenticity of this world that I am inviting you to experience with your own imagination. Yet, if I suppressed the details that feel extravagant and astonishing, there would be nothing left but an empty page on my desk. No, my time in Hellas cannot be experienced alone; it must be shared. Without you, no blades will ever be crossed in animosity, no princess will ever receive a kiss from her prince and no senator will ever raise his voice to the senate. Without you, that narrow, winding street leading to the Athenian palace, the one with vendors from all over the world peddling goods of marvellous colours and tastes, would never be.

I'm certain this is not the first time you have encountered an imaginary world such as this. But perhaps you will believe me when I say that I am not inviting you here to meet quotas or to lure you in with false promises. I have come to love the lore-rich world I now inhabit, and I have only yet seen a fraction of it. My own urge to explore it and meet all the fascinating people is hindered only by the fact that you are not here to witness it all with me. I long for the day when I can see the people in your mind as clearly as I see the ones in mine.

Will you join me in this endeavour? Will you explore a whole new world with me? Will you put your pen to paper and help make this world so real that I and anyone in our community can touch the buildings you construct, that we may taste the foods you cook with written words alone?

Your words will inspire me, dear friend. They will inspire a league of writers with whom I collaborate. As I conclude this letter, I will remind you that the biggest regret in writing is not the stories you tell poorly but the ones you never tell at all.

Dear potential member,

Welcome to your new home on the internet! Why should we be your new home? There's lots of other historical rp sites out there, right? Well, let me tell you that there is no place like Aeipathy! We welcome writers from all different backgrounds, whether you've roleplayed on a board before or are just getting started. Our mentors won't lead you astray as you start your journey with us, and no question goes unanswered. What did the ancient Greeks think of cheesecake? Did they use toilet paper? (Not to quarry, the answer is yes! Actually, they used rocks sometimes. Yikes!).

Our Compendium is full of a diverse range of characters from interesting places all over the ancient world. We put a lot of effort into having proper representation of various ages, sexualities, occupations, physical and mental abilities. Having trouble narrowing down your options? Never fear, there's a fun and easy quiz we've designed to help you choose! We've got a great staff team in place to get you started and an Encyclopaedia you can refer back to for interesting details to help build your character. As soon as that's done, you're ready to plot. And boy, do we have plots.

We've got poisonings, deception, and murder. We've got forbidden romance, class warfare, gossip, and fashion. You want to fight a bear? Come and fight a bear. They probably deserved it. Get over here and punch that bear in the face! Are you in the mood to steal some coin, poison a king or take over a kingdom? From sibling drama to plans of world domination, there's room for plots of all sizes - no matter how big or small.

It's never a dull moment whether you're cruising the boards checking out what other characters are up to or you're on the Discord cooking juicy plots with our other members. We have a diverse and vibrant community to welcome you and keep you engaged with the events taking place in the Aeipathy world. We deeply value our inclusivity, compassion and community. Every member is here to write the stories they'd like to read, and every new character we meet helps weave together the tapestry of our collective story.
