Below is a quick overview of the open canons, wanted ads and in-play
characters in the Roma land: specifically, the characters who currently occupy
positions of power and which roles are still open to be filled by original characters.
For more information on the different roles and levels of authority in Roma see the Ranks and Hierarchy section in Roma's Law page.
For the full, canon family tree of Roma use this link and the 'Find:' function at the bottom right of the page, to find "Caesar Lex Regnum Cannae" as a starting point. You can explore from there.
Ruling Powers
Roma has no monarchy and is ruled by the
Imperia Parliamentum. Positions in this governing body are inherited through the predominant families in the land. These families may or may not be related to the original royal line of Rome. The Houses of Cannae and Veneti are the two direct lines of the old monarchy and addressed as
Regnum. They are of a
higher rank within the Parliamentum than the
Nobilis families. Those who still possess royal blood, regardless of House are addressed as
"Lex" before their family name. These people have no additional legal power or authority but are often listened to with greater respect due to their family lineage.

Roma Houses
The only
'Royal' Houses of Roma are Cannae and Veneti but these are only addressed as such for respect: not legal authority. All other houses related to the royal line by marriage or distant connection are
Noble Houses.
Praefect Houses are the families of particular men assigned to rule over distinct provinces. A praefect without family can hold the rank of praefect but is not granted a formal House until he is married and has produced legitimate offspring.

Provincial Leaders
Roma has three tiers of Houses:
Regnum (royal blooded),
Nobilis (nobility) and
Praefect (common). The leader of every Regnum or Nobilis is automatically appointed the rank of
Imperia in the Parliamentum. The oldest male in a Regnum, Nobilis or Praefect holds the title of
Dux, the oldest female
Ducissa.
A
Praefect is the political/administrative leader of a single province in Roma and is only bestowed a House when he is married and has produced a legitimate male heir. A man can hold the Praefect rank without the House attached. If given a House, the Praefect rank is then most often passed down through that family, but only at the approval of the Regnum or Nobilis who owns the province they manage. The Praefect rank (and the House attached) can be removed at any time by their vassal Regnum/Nobilis. A Praefect's role and duties can also be bestowed on a male from a Regnum or Nobilis house. Praefects are permitted at Court and in upper social circles but they do not hold a seat or any authority in the Parliamentum. A Praefect (or any other member of any of the three House tiers) may be appointed the additional role of
Magister. This
would give them a seat in the Parliamentum. Below is a table copied from our
World Contribution page. Any provinces that are indicated as 'Open' can be claimed by new characters if a member wishes to
create a new Nobilis or Praefect House.

For a more detailed list of each province and its industry and benefits, see the Province Listings section of Roma's Land page.
Military Leaders
Each province has a war
militia. The leaders of these militia are
Centurions. Their subordinate officers are
Miless. Centurions report to their commanding officer: the
Legate of one of the 14 royal / noble families. The Legates are subservient to the House but also report to the
Legate Imperia of their region (North, South, East and West). The Legate Imperia may be a member of the same House, a different one, or not nobility at all. They are the ultimate in military authority in Roma but they are also under the political command of the Imperia Parliamentum.
