The Ayyaršātum Sarai is more like a town than a single building. The Red Road is a famous street leading from the inner gates through the different buildings of the royal palace. It is paved with red marble, lined with greenery and under the watchful gaze of the personal guards who stand sentinel at each door and gate. Many square courtyards or little ponds mark the turnings or junctions of the Red Road.
