It is a desert of arid, hostile environment upon which seven gesin (tribes) live a nomadic, ever-moving existence. These gesin are very private and particular. They do not trust strangers; even Bedoans from other tribes. They do not general accept ethnic diversity and think all forms of religion that include a divine being a childish and pointless. Any sexuality bar heterosexuality is generally unaccepted here. Bedoans are incredibly xenophobic and untrusting of difference but, if you can win your place amongst them, difference becomes irrelevant. They will stand with you until the end. Characters who identify as minorities will find non-inclusive but complex plotlines here in Bedoa'mt, if they choose.

Forms of Address Getting the right form of address is highly important in Bedoa'mt, particularly as there are no clear materialistic benefits to being of a higher social rank: respect and terminology is sometimes all a king might get from his people. Following these social addresses therefore keep the immersion of our era intact but also saves your character from severely offending a powerful individual and being forced to face the consequences.

Whilst there is no golden rule on when it is acceptable for a character to slip into informal address, a good rule of thumb is the measurement of two social ranks. The Ranks below are listed in order. If your character is just one or two ranks lower than the person they are addressing, it may be suitable for them to use an informal mode of address. Any lower and you are safer sticking with the formal.

* Terms marked for "old" males and females is a general rule and are more specifically used as a sign of respect for their experience and expertise. If the character being addressed is unknown to yours, these terms are most appropriate. If your character is familiar with whom they are speaking to and know that they (despite being old) are not respected in the community, your character will not use the Master/Mistress title. Conversely, if a younger member of the tribe is highly respected for their skills or character, they will acquire the Master/Mistress title sooner in life.

Below is a quick overview of the open canons, wanted ads and in-play characters in the Bedoa'mt land, specifically the characters currently occupying positions of power and which are still open to be filled by original characters.

Ruling Powers Bedoa'mt is a collection of tribal monarchies. Each gesin (tribe) is ruled by an absolute monarchy. Laws are made and governed by the Leier. Many legal decisions, rulings and practices are conducted in public, so that justice is seen and understood by all. There is no such thing as challenging a king for his crown. The only way to become a ruler of a gesin is to leave your community and create a new one, or marry into the current royal line. All decisions made by the ruling Leier are final and uncompromising. Immediate Royal Family The 'immediate royal family' includes all living parents, children, spouses, or siblings of the current monarch of each gesin. These relatives do not hold their own political power but they are treated with a level of superiority or respect socially. Relatives of each monarch are listed under the Royal Members section in the gesin listings below. Royal and Noble Families The 'Houses' of Bedoa'mt are neither royal nor noble. They are gesins (tribes). Within each there are only two levels of society: common and royal. Social status within a gesin is determined first by whether or not one is royal. Then by one's own skills and expert contributions to their people, not simply by the gesin 'House' they are a part of.
Provincial Leaders There are no provinces in Bedoa'mt. Gesins are based on the people, not the land, as each tribe is constantly on the move. There are therefore no provinces to claim and no open spots for new Gesin to be created.

Military Leaders Each gesin has its own band of warriors. There is little organisation and rank within the military as large wars and combat are not common in Bedoa'mt. Soldiers with more experience and prestige are often given the title shujaa. This is not a formal rank with duties but a shujaa is more likely to give orders and be listened to in the field.
