In a wholly unexpected turn of events, it was Alkaios who today found himself travelling to meet his foreign contacts.
After his meeting with Thea several months before, there had been a further missive from the Thanasi sister requesting that the man take some time from his schedule and visit them. In their debt as he was, he could hardly object, and quick plans had been made with regards to the momentary care and keeping of Acaris before he travelled to the Kingdom of Colchis to meet with not Thea, surprisingly, but the eldest of the three sisters. Presumably, arrangements had been made regarding how exactly he was expected to be repaying the debt he owed them.
The Thanasi Archontiko was not a place that was familiar to him by any stretch of the imagination, and it took a moment to navigate his way there using the instructions that had been provided to him in his brief correspondence with the family. It was lucky that they were such an illustrious family: it had provided them with a well-placed home in the centre of the capital city and, therefore, one which could be easily located by newcomers. Thus, Alkaios arrived with good time, dressed substantially better than he usually seemed to when he had these meetings - the past two times he had personally met with any members of this other family, it had been during the festival, and he had never felt the need to dress up so much for that as he did on this occasion, now that he was visiting their very home.
Once allowed inside, he was directed to a small meeting room off the main courtyard, asked to take a seat whilst he awaited the arrival of his hostess. Hopefully, this meeting should prove as useful and beneficial for the pair of them as Alkaios was expecting it would.

Power. Money. Connections. Many things that Nethis aspires her family to thrive for above anything else, because love will be something that Aphrodite spells upon man; therefore, the mundane should not worry where their hearts lie. House Thanasi has been making connections with several houses from the past few years, one of them was a slow process, but other connections developed quicker… Because at that time, the opportunity fell into their laps. Nethis is quick to jump onto opportunities that she has surveyed to serve her family, though she is careful, very careful upon whom she will be partnering her family with.
The House will have to be able to serve the Thanasis in a beneficial way, because Nethis’s house will live up to its expectations. The one thing about House Thanasi, so far, is they will live up to their promises – Nethis will not make promises she cannot keep, but the Fates have plans that may not lie with your own. Still, Lady Nethis will be very tactical with the Houses she aligns her family with, because is everything is on the line. Marriages are exchanges of power and finances, very much a business agreement between two families. Nethis has yet to disclose the business agreement she was about to close with House Skleros, but she isn’t concerned about her younger brother. Mihail will have to agree to the matters at hand, and his sister is not up for debate when her mind has been made.
Nethis arranged everything for Alkaios of Skleros to enter the Thanasi Archontiko feeling comfortable and welcomed to their, rather stark home. Lady Nethis was still in her room standing outside on her terrace, where it was adorned with grape vines in dedication to her Lord Dionysus. Lady Nethis picked a purple grape and plopped the plump fruit into her mouth as she consumed the grown fruit. She was very proud of this vines that were growing out on her terrace, her handmaids were very skilled in keeping her plants alive. Because everyone knows, if the vines were to die then someone will have to die along with them as it will anger her as well as the god of wine himself. Nethis is a devout follower of the wine god, which is why she cares so much for her deity.
The Colchian woman turned from her terrace to enter back into her room, dressed in a deep red chiton gown that hugged her body attractively – many heads would turn if the eldest sister was among guests. A cold beauty to witness but could never touch. Nethis’s raven hair laid down looking delicate and soft, though Nethis was anything but a delicate or soft woman… Anyone in a room with Nethis will know it within a few seconds – she is a woman of purpose. Nothing this woman does is by accident, if anything love will be something that will sneak up on the Thanasi woman. Although, the love of her younger brother is what she is focusing on, again an accident that may or may not happen – the business arrangement with Skleros is the most important thing.
Nethis heard a knock upon her door that she answered, “Come in.” The Lady turned with an expectant look as a handmaid entered, “Mi’lady, Baron Alkaios of Skleros has arrived and is awaiting your presence.” The Lady smiled as she walked towards the door, “Very well, I am on my way, thank you.” Nethis walked passed the handmaid, already expecting her door to be closed behind her as she walked the halls. It did not take the woman long to find the meeting place that she designated. Nethis would incorporate her father in this meeting, but she hasn’t prepared any lines for him to follow – if she wants this done, then she must do it herself. Lady Nethis entered the room, her eyes icy blues eyes meeting the Baron with a pleasant smile, “Welcome to Colchis, Baron.” The lady placed more emphasis on ‘Baron’ as she came closer to the younger man. The woman held out her hand expecting him to place a kiss upon her knuckles, “I hope you’ve found your stay enjoyable, if you need anything our servants will be happy to fulfill your desires.”

Alkaios did not have long to wait before the Thanasi lady entered the room he was waiting in - a stunning vision in that sanguine gown, so appropriate! - and he instinctively stood from his seat upon her entry, taking her hand and planting the kiss upon it that she was so clearly expecting. Having never met the eldest of the three sisters before that day, he had little idea how the meeting between the pair of them would go, but there was no doubt that he should act as respectful as he possibly could to ensure everything went as swimmingly as it possibly could.
"It's been wonderful. Everybody has been exceptionally accommodating: I hardly know whether 'tis their natural state or due to my newfound title," he chuckled in response to her query, appreciating the way the woman had taken care to emphasise the title. Waiting for her to take a seat before he did anything similar, he wasn't entirely sure where to start. Of course, Nethis would be well aware of the events of his last meeting with Thea, but he opted to give her a quick recap of their conversation. "As you know, Lady Nethis, I last spoke with your sister in Posidaios when she visited Taengea for the festival. I have been very thankful for your aid in the past year; my sister was certainly not wrong in recommending your particular services. You have provided me with more than I could have originally desired."
It was lucky that this second meeting was taking place in a more secluded location than the last. Here, within the Thanasi Archontiko, there was less opportunity for any outsiders to hear them, and they could speak far more freely. It was refreshing. Shifting in his seat to cross one leg over the other, he continued. "We were discussing terms of payment for your assistance. As you know, I cannot offer you too much - I am certainly not of anywhere near as high a stature as yourself - but my resources have increased over the last months. And, of course, there is still the matter of my sister, if you are still interested in such a union between our two families. I am sure the promise of even the smallest amount of foreign power must be alluring."
For a moment, Alkaios wondered if he overstepped his boundaries with how much he spoke. He had no idea whether or not Nethis would be offended by his forwardness, but he had felt the need to cover the recent events. Besides, he knew just what this conversation would be about, and it was good to have a starting point for the pair of them to go off. Still, he silenced himself now, adjusting his position in the seat and running a hand through his hair to smooth it back as he finished talking.
"Apologies, my Lady. I honestly didn't mean to speak so out of turn. I wish to give you an idea of my last conversation on this matter. Please, go ahead. You invited me here; I should be listening to what you have to say."

Nethis smiled at the Baron as he gently grabbed her fingers to plant a soft kiss upon her knuckles, therefore the games have begun. This meeting may be small on the grand scheme of the elder sister’s plans, nonetheless it is a plan that is going to set forth opportunities that’ll alleviate her family’s status. Lady Nethis took a seat opposite of the Baron, her sitting was gracefully and with ease as she switched her all to one side. Nethis sat up as she eyed the Baron with her alluring eyes, the woman’s breathing was calm as an ocean breeze – she has done this plenty of times before. This meeting could have been a meeting with the King of Colchis and the Lady would have handled it just the same, because the Thanasi sister fears only one thing. The failing of her family would be the only that will cause her detrimental harm, other than that she only sees movable impediments. The raven-haired beauty nodded her head proudly that her House treated the New Baron as instructed, he is a newly appointed Baron of his lands – power is power, no matter where or how you achieved it. Boosting the Baron’s ego would do him some good in these games of thrones. “I am glad you’ve found my House accommodating – we have proven to be hospitable to all of our guests… A truer nature is perceived, never a fact Baron, whatever you may hear about my House are perceptions, not evidence based,” Nethis continued with a smile, “But you’ve seen here, no one has tried your name nor House, evidence of nobility and respectability.” The Lady said as she listened out for the Baron.
Words are powerfully, especially when they are used strategically and an overload of them can cause one to lose focus. Luckily for the Baron, Nethis is not the kind to phase in and out, she will not waste her time, nor will she allow others to waste her time. Respect is also another characteristic she will bleed out of men and women alike, so any trace of disrespect will surely be weeded out. Nethis allowed the man before her to give the informed woman a recap of past events, though it was surely unnecessary, at least for Nethis. She has planned it all with her family, if anything, the recap would be more so for House Skleros than that of the Thanasi, but the elder sister will keep her peace about it. No harm to either House.
The elder sister smirked at the Baron’s recognition of his own rambling, which was rather amusing to listen to. A man excited that he finally gets the play the big game, but soon this game will turn into something he doesn’t recognize… If he wants to stay sane, then he is going to have to cling to something that matters. Lady Nethis spoke, “Seems like you’ve filled your new position rather quickly, Baron Aklaios of House Skleros, but some advice from a Lady who’s observed the world of politics,” The Lady continued, “Try to hide your glow of enthusiasm and replace it with the hide of the Nemean Lion – I’ve seen men crumble because they did not have the hide to protect them.” Nethis smiled slightly, “I see it in you Baron, ‘tis is why the gods gifted you with your new position and a marriage with the Thanasi House.” The Lady said with a gentleness in her voice that could have fooled anyone, but only those who know Nethis of Thanasi – not many do.
“Though, yes, at the matters at hand… Payment is of my greatest interest with your house. Where my House has delivered in full, we expect payment in full,” Nethis continued with the slight tilt of her head and fluctuation of her voice, “Payment is accepted in many forms and marriage is one of them in which I would like to comply. My brother will be happy to accept your sister’s hand in marriage, such a holy matrimony sacred to the goddess of marriage, Hera.” A moment she neglected to disclose to her brother, though in due time she will share with him that he is a husband to be. Although, marriage will not be able to soothe all that the Elder sister seeks. Lady Nethis crossed her legs as she leaned back into her chair, “Now, now Baron – what you must learn is not to belittle the beneficiaries of your House, because what you’ve just told me is that marriage is the only thing your capable of giving as payment.” Nethis tilted her head with the slight narrow of her eyes, “Did you think that would be all we are to discuss? Marriage will repay most of your debt to my House, but it will not cure all my friend.”

Evidence of nobility and respectability perhaps, although Alkaios would have begged to differ and say that, quite simply, his house was not considered important enough to be plagued with rumour. There were a few gossips about them - it was hard to avoid anything at all - but barely anything substantial, and hardly anything based in fact. People preferred to gossip about the more prominent names: there was always more risk associated with fame. It was ironic, then, that he'd be so eager to increase his family standing.
She had seemed understanding of his extreme excitement and eagerness to speak, allowing him to make his rambling conversation. He had already known that she must have had a detailed report of the past from her sister but having two sides of a discussion available to you was always superior to having just the one. Alkaios simply wished to provide the woman with a detailed understanding of exactly how the meeting had seemed to him, allowing her more than a single point of view. When he had quietened once again, there was a brief moment of silence before his hostess spoke, a moment which, admittedly, worried Alkaios. There was always a panic when you had no idea what people might be about to say.
"I appreciate your concerns, my Lady, but I believe I can guard myself against others well enough. I trust I can handle myself. I have learned enough from my military position." It was true: plenty assumed that the army only trained its soldiers to be tough in combat but that assumption would have been inaccurate. Alkaios had received plenty of training to grow a thick skin, and he liked to imagine he could handle himself against most hardships. Nonetheless, perhaps it was a naive thought. Alkaios had never before found himself in a position as prestigious as this one, and these were now dangerous and foreign waters. He would have to keep his guard up. "But I will consider your words. I would not wish hubris to be the death of me after everything." The rest of her words were a further reassurance, a valued acknowledgement of his new position and the lengths he'd gone to achieve it, whether or not it had been meant as such. He could carry himself as she requested.
Payment in full was, of course, what Alkaios would be providing. He owed House Thanasi a great debt, and he intended to repay it fully, never wanting to give them the impression that he was not someone who could be trusted. "Thank you," he began, glad that the marriage was still on the table. It was one of the best things he could offer, not having enough to his name to offer much to the Thanasis. Still, he let Lady Nethis cut him off, eyebrows furrowed as she suggested that he had implied he had nothing more to offer. "I did not mean to sound that way, my Lady. If there is more you wish of me, then I would be happy to provide it. I owe you plenty; I understand that marriage alone cannot fulfil that obligation. What else had you in mind?"

Business is business, therefore Nethis is very careful not to allow her personal feelings to supersede business. Future generations could not afford to lose out on opportunities, because their ascendants were not prepared to keep feelings out of deals. Anything Nethis is doing is so that one day in the future, her nephews and nieces are sitting in positions of power making decisions on behalf of their family. Nethis wants to give her family a chance, she wants to give House Thanasi the chances of power in not just Colchis, but all over Greece. All the kingdoms, with zero exceptions, will have a representative of Thanasi House because Nethis is just that resourceful, because wars will win you land but its slow and grueling. Not to mention, in war, both sides of the battle are losing something, but a marriage is a benefit for both families. Either side is making a business arrangement that will benefit their family in the long run, therefore any marriage Nethis walks into is treated as a business deal. In other words, Nethis isn’t just going to marry herself or family to just any family, because if they do not have much to offer than it isn’t worth the time.
Nethis eyed the young Baron before her as she crossed her legs, while laying her hands into her lap, carefully clasping them together. The alluring woman eyed the young man with her icy blue eyes, “I am glad you see your House being more than a simple marriage, because I also believe it to be true.” Nethis said with a smirk, “You see, I have gained a little bit of knowledge of your House and their upbringings, and you do not disappoint.” The elder sister said as she eyed the young Baron up and down, “What your House is known for has made me inclined to ask for something more than just a marriage. House Thanasi has done House Skleros’s a favor that was worth noting, therefore what was done needs something of equal worth in payment.” Nethis wasn’t saying the marriage wasn't something she wanted or thought wasn’t enough, what she really wanted to make sure is that loyalties are aligned. A marriage can become a divorce in a matter of days after the wedding, therefore ties can be cut between two houses and it is safe for one House to expose the other. Avoiding exposure is all Nethis is trying to do at this moment with the Baron.
The raven-haired Lady continued speaking with an interested tone, “With that being said, My Lord, tell me of this Chimera Chiliostys, because if I am correct it is a very shrewed military.”

Such a request had been expected. Alkaios had not thought the Thanasi family would be content only receiving a marriage alliance - especially so given that his family could not provide much more than the reassurance of a small amount of reach in foreign lands: being of only noble and not royal blood made it more a benefit for his house than their own - and he had prepared to hear what else the Lady Nethis might have suggested he offer her house in gratitude for all they had given him in the past year. He had nodded in silence as she explained such a situation to him, claiming that she had researched the history of his family to a certain extent and that she had a further request to make.
The request itself should have been expected.
House Skleros had always been known for the military prowess, something which was often joked about as making them seem more a Colchian house than a Taengean (an amusing thought, given that they did have their fair share of family across the sea). It came as no surprise that the Thanasi family would wish to exploit that for their own gain, and were thus turning to Alkaios's own military unit as one of their requests in this game they had been playing. And, well, when you had set up stakes as high as he had only a year before, it would have been rude not to engage. He could happily talk on the subject of his family's military for quite a while, and he could most certainly show it off to the woman as she so requested.
"The Chimera Chiliostys," he repeated, the smile dancing on his lips as he had known she would bring them up at some point during the discussion. "I would say my unit is skilled, although perhaps you might call me biased for it. However, my house has always produced good soldiers, and it is hence not just I who makes such claims but history itself." He folded his hands over one another, resting them on his lap and glancing down as he considered his options. It would have been easiest to simply offer the military up as prize immediately, but there was always the option of negotiating to see what else might be possible to obtain. "I would not be opposed to having them bend to your will, so to put it, although I would prefer to be assured that my sister will have an assured position in your house, and a safe marriage...before I make any strict decisions."

Nethis eyed the young man before with a pleased expression as he only confirmed what she already knew. The Chimea Chilliostys is interesting to the noble Lady, a military she would prefer being under her wing. If there would ever be a time, she would need a big army well she is already building the profile, though maybe men on a task force is all she probably needs. The Skleros House would be a benefit to the Thanasi Family as he only assured that Nethis could trust his word – this marriage will officially make the Thanasi House much more powerful… Little does the world know that Nethis is moving far and wide, spreading influence all over the three Kingdoms as her webs are intricate and purposeful. There are nobles who are under her dime and are paid to be loyal to the Thanasi House with the added fear of possible termination, if they prove to be an enemy to her. People fear Nethis because she is a woman of power and knows how to use it; therefore, there have been nobles who have been victimized by the threat of Nethis.
The noblewoman nodded, “Interesting indeed,” The blue-eyed woman shifted in her seat, though she returned her gaze on the Baron, “Before we make in final decisions, I or someone of my House would like to expect these soldiers as they may have a use to House Thanasi. Of course, they would be under your command, but do understand there is another place for you to grow your army in a Colchian province, once our marriage is underway.” The Lady crossed her legs again as she remained comfortable yet appeared poised at the table of discussion.
“Your sister is a Lady, she will have a position sure enough there should not be anything to worry about. The marriage will go as planned, we will discuss further on details through missives” Nethis stood up as she looked at the nobleman, “I must be on my way as I have other engagements to attend to, though this has been a profitable time for the both of us – I thank you for coming to me, please do the rest of Colchis. I will send some of my guards to assist you throughout Midas as well, if need be – after all we will be family.” Nethis smiled at the Baron, before turning and walking out of the room, already tipping off a maid to see about the Baron.
