The sun shone down in rays that reflected off the ground. Adrestus walked out into the outside, dressed in his sailor clothes, instead of looking like the noble he was. His hair was groomed quite nicely, and his face was clean and clear but his clothes that hung on him were quite plain. He wasn’t wearing any jewelry, nor did any of his scars show through. His eyes reflected off the sun with brightness, and it was clear that he didn’t have any stress. He was home. He had been home for 3 days, and everything seemed how it was meant to be. He had seen his family, and they had been ecstatic to see him. They didn’t know exactly why he had come home, but that was for another day. He knew he needed to talk more with his father about important matters- he just needed time. Being home gave him that time.
Adrestus grinned as he ended up in the inner circle. Athenia seemed different, much darker since he left and… it made him feel uncomfortable. Things had changed, and it was to be expected, but it didn’t look like the change was necessarily good. He knew he had a lot of catch up to do- and hopefully he’d be able to get the truth of it all. Somehow. But again, this was not his mission for today. Today was the day for relaxation, and seeing if he can find old friends of his. He had had many before he left for his adventures, and while he had been in Athenia between that time, he had never really had time to have long conversations. One old friend in particular- Elias - hadn’t had any contact at all with Adrestus. Adre didn’t even know if Elias even remembered anymore. Not that he was going to seek him out- but there was some curiosity.
He nodded to people walking by as he held a piece of fruit in his hand, and leaned against a wall calmly. He was hungry enough, but he was more interested in people watching then actually eating. His eyes scanned the area, before he stopped and zeroed in on someone who seemed familiar. Could it be? Elias. He stood up straighter, his eyes widening for a moment before he turned towards the area behind him. He could leave… he didn’t know how Elias was going to react to seeing him again. It was all of the unknown. He had a moment to think before Elias saw him, and he felt his heart beating faster. It started to thunder inside him. His chest heaved as he took a deep breath, and he shook his head. No. He had to at least be polite, at least say hello….and let him know he was in Athenia for a while. He worked for Keikelius anyways. He took another breath before walking out from the wall, and right towards Elias of Stravos. He showed a bright smile, and reached up to wave over to the other man. Elias had grown, and he looked different then how he was before Adre had left… but he was Elias nonetheless.
“Elias!” He called out, his voice friendly. He wondered if Elias would even recognize him. He tried to not look cautious, but instead his body language radiated excitement. Adrestus quietly thought back to the day they stole the boat together.

Freedom was a beautiful thing. Perhaps Elias of Stravos never considered it, having always had the agency to do whatever he wanted due to the conditions of birth and the power of wealth, but the fresh air in his lungs and the kiss of Apollo's light on his skin was something that he found so exhilirating. His first act after seizing his freedom for himself was to throw himself within the palace and convince the princess Emilia, the last of the Xanthoses remaining for him to bend to his machinations, to afford him the power that he rightfully deserved. As far as Elias was concerned, he bore the mantle of a king and waited only for the crown that made it fact rather than presumption. Unfortunately for him, the whore-witch took it with her when she absconded from the palati to who knows where. But... as far as he was concerned, the outcome was the best thing he could ask for aside from true success.
Emilia believed her sister dead, and devastated by the loss and uneducated in the intricacies of rule, saw fit to provide the rightful heir the agency he required. Now? It was his prerogative to extend his influence, to amass his power and allow the agents under his command to infiltrate the palace guard and beyond. Athenia was a fine apple, one that he needed to sink his teeth into and allow the juice to dribble down his chin. Then, he'd let it sit, to fester and rot until there was no choice but to replace the apple with one of his own choosing. But, as those under his rank and file did their duties to him, he allowed himself a moment to respite. He allowed himself to enjoy the fresh air and light, to relish in the power he had seized, and to let himself look on to the peopel of Athenia, whose visages grew more and more gaunt by the day as he pulled away the ewer that provided unto them the font of life.
Toil in the misery that your Xanthos frauds brought on. Grovel and languish in your hunger until the day that Athenia's true king can be the saviour he was destined to be, he mused as he passed along the docks. He chose this place for his respite, for as the number of Athenian ships dwindled from the attacks that Lukos imposed, the number of Stravos-made replacements grew. He gloated in his victory, in the influence that waxed and waxed by the day until he heard the distant shout of a voice that might've been familiar to him. He arched his eyebrows, wondering what sort of low-born shiphand might have the gall to address him without his title. He was almost furious at the fact of it, until his gaze settled upon the offender.
It took a moment, for Elias of Stravos to recognize a man grown. He was a stranger to him now, but a stranger with the same friendly disposition as the child who he'd made as one of his best friends growing up. A similar passion for ships and the sea, but one taken far to the extreme given the laxity with which his parents treated him, Adrestus of Nikolaos made himself known to the regent of Athenia. A smile broke upon Elias' lips, and he decided in that moment if Elias of Stravos was to be addressed by his first name, he'd do the same. Propriety was thrown out the window, not by his choice, but perpetuated by his hand. He drew closer and it was so obvious how excited the young lord in front of him was to reunite with the Head of Stravos house.
"By the Gods, is that Adrestus of Nikolaos? Poseidon brought you back to us alive and well!" he answered, the expression of excitement reaching his gaze genuinely for the first time since the whore-queen was ousted from her undeserved perch. He clasped his friend on the shoulder before he pushed forward, bringing him into an embrace. Him and Rafail of Marikas were the only men who would draw so near, and Elias chuckled softly before he added,
"Welcome back to the world, my friend. Clearly, travel has treated you well! I assume you've come back with a foreign woman to make your wife?" he asked, a tease in his tone as his expression drew broader still.
"Would you show me your ship? I have to see what fine craft brought you back to the real world."

Athenia was a different place compared to when he had left it. From the commoners working on the docks, and rumors from his province, not everyone was happy with how things had changed. The queen was gone, and there was no specific ruler any more, for one. Trade was different too, and so was food and other supplies. On the ground, Adrestus took note of each change and wondered if he had picked the worst time to come home. Not like he had any choice- his family needed him and he would do what he needed to get done, even if that means losing freedom. He had been busy since he had arrived home too, catching up with old friends who he had gotten close to over the years of his childhood. There was one childhood friend who he was cautious about seeing, though he decided one way or another they would have to meet again. Lord Elias and Stravos. They had been very good friends as children, and Elias had been the one to try to talk him out of leaving. Adrestus had gone anyways, and, with years of no contact, Adrestus had no idea how Elias was going to react to seeing him again. He wouldn’t know how to handle it if it came out a negative reaction.
As per usual, the nobleman took a risk. He smiled as Elias looked over at him, and while his nervousness screamed out for him to walk away, he immediately relaxed as the other smiled back. Thank the gods! Excitement filled him as Elias moved towards him, and the nobleman smiled even brighter, his eyes shining with absolute happiness. “Of course! Poseidon has been good to me.” He spoke softly. The embrace came as a shock, but Adrestus immediately embraced Elias back in a manner that would suggest that the man had really, really missed him. He pulled back slowly, starting to think that Elias really was a god. It was like time had never passed- as if they were still friends even though Adrestus had left him. He was awestruck by it, even more so because Elias had gone out of his way to welcome him back. He chuckled at Elias’s next words and shrugged. “Well, Lord Elias, no one was worthy enough to bring home. I would never do that to Athenia.” He didn’t dare to think about his ex lover, and he didn’t even want to think about what Elias might say if he had brought a pirate into port. It also meant that Elias knew that he was available, and that wasn’t really true either. He had his eyes on a smart and beautiful Antonis girl, though he wasn’t ready to relay that to Elias yet. Not until he started courting her.
He nodded excitedly at Elias' request then bowed his head respectfully. “Right this way, Lord Elias.” He started to lead the royal in his ship’s direction. It was a strong ship, with a strong crew, and the Nikolaos flag flew proudly alongside a Stravos one. He glanced to Elias to catch his reaction to the Stravos symbol, wondering if he even knew he worked for his father. “I’ve had this for about a year,” Adrestus stopped in front of it, turning towards Elias. “Do you have time to take a look around? We can catch up without so many eyes on us.” He already noticed the other sailors staring. “I wish to tell you about the other kingdoms I’ve gone to.” In all honesty, Adrestus just really wanted more time around Elias. He felt blessed to even be in the royal’s presence again after so many years. The expression on his face was pure joy, and he hoped Elias would be willing to take time to talk with him.
