One note filled the air with a finality that could only follow the word 'No'. So he wasn't a student here, hmmm...
"I wonder what brought you here. I thought no one but maybe a student knew of this corner of the courtyard. It's very secluded and where I like to play the most. Now, why on earth did she say that?! Kalliope could feel her cheeks redden as she lowered her head, not that she could see anyways to see if her shock and embarrassment were noticed.
"Did you hear me play? It was for an assignment, not the usual happier notes that everyone requests." The only reason, she sometimes thought, that anyone kept her around. Her music was the only thing, that fateful night, that did not get stolen from her. As an afterthought, she added, "My name is Kalliope, by the way. Just so you know it."
Biting her bottom lip lightly as she thought to herself, she quietly had to admit that she was finding it hard to think of yes or no questions. "This would be so much easier if I could see you. I wish I could ask, what your favorite past times were? What type of music did you like? If you had a favorite book or liked to paint or swim? Anything and everything." She was rambling, she knew that as she fiddled with the cords on her lyre, playing a soft tune. "Sorry."

Kyros plucked the string gently two times. Yes. It had been such a beautiful melody. And he did not use the term lightly. Kyros was not one to give insincere compliments. It was not often that anything had the ability to steer the mercenary from his chosen course. But her music had done that this day. Kalliope, he silently repeated her name in his mind. It was a lyrical sounding name to go with a voice that was just as sweet. He didn't even recognize his own thoughts! Dear gods, this woman had cast a spell with her music and he had been caught in its web!
His brows rose as she spouted about things she wished he could answer. So many questions she rambled on about, and he had the notion that she had many more. 'Sorry' He furrowed his brows, not understanding why she was apologizing. As much as he wanted to hear her play and sing some more, he was enjoying the melodic cadence of her voice just as much. On impulse he reached a hand out and let his fingers glide lightly across all the strings of her lyre. Just one pass and he pulled back again. Why? I don't understand.

The two notes saying that they heard her music, made Kalli smile before she started to ramble on. Who would have thought that her mouth would run away with itself as she just throughout question after question as if they could answer her like normal? With the embarrassment that filled her and had her ducking her head as she apologized, the sound of her lyre made her jump a little in surprise. Were they asking her a question to her sorry?
"I didn't mean to ramble on. Sometimes, I speak before thinking and just wanted to ask so many things. Your name, your likes, dislikes and just learning about you. It was inconsiderate of me since you can't speak and since I can't see it is not like you can show me." Kalli sighed softly, thinking they would probably think she was a simpleton like most people seem to think.
Playing softly but keeping the lyre where her new friend could reach it, she ran her fingers over the edge of the instrument, keeping enough space so they could answer any questions. "So you are not a student but heard me play, is that what brought you here?"

Kyros did not think this woman a simpleton. No, he thought her beautiful and talented. Her blonde hair shone brightly in the sun, her skin appeared smooth and unblemished. Even her dulled eyes held a light in them when she smiled so brightly. Aphrodite had laid hands on this one he was certain. And her music. Oh to be the lyre in those delicate hands of hers. Despite all this, he pitied her that she could not see, but not enough to ease her mind of his being unable to speak. He could not bring himself to reveal himself that completely to her. No. He would continue their little meeting with this charade. It was unlikely he'd ever see her again, in any case.
Kyros plucked the string of the lyre twice. Yes. I scaled a wall and sat in a tree, just to listen to you play; and it was the most wonderful thing I have heard in years. But of course all she would know of his thoughts is that he answered her question with a short and simple yes. Oddly, as he sat there in the grass with her in this secluded part of the courtyard, he wanted to ask her how she lost her sight. Had she been born that way? He knew it happened. Knew that people with such limitations existed. But this was the first time he'd met such a person. There was not much room for limitations within the Creed. Oh why was he here interacting with her at all?! He should go. Disappear as quickly as he'd come, and she'd never be the wiser. Yet, he made no move to flee. Instead he gripped on corner of the instrument and eased it more firmly into her lap. Then he let his hand glide over the strings once more. Play for me, Kalliope, he silently begged, for he found himself craving the sound of her music.

The two resounding notes hung in the air between them at her last question, letting her know that her new possible friend heard her and that was why he came to visit. It wasn't something she was unused too, remembering times in her father's shop when she would play her lyre to draw people in. His "luck charm" he would call her; before she lost her eyesight anyways. Now there she was, left to her own devices as per normal for months at a time. It was one of the reasons why she left, not even sure if he ever returned to his shop in the market.
Finally nodding her head in understanding, she was about to ask another question when her lyre was pressed more firmly in her lap before more of the cords vibrated through the air in a pleasing tone. "You want me to play again? Ok... I will play." Trailing off, she paused a moment before smiling softly, "But it will cost you."
And she didn't mean in coin or anything like that. She wanted to know more, and since her new friend could not speak, maybe they might let her get an idea of how they look and allow her to touch them? With that thought, she could not help but smile again as she asked, "Deal?"
Picking up her lyre but still holding it at a distance so they could respond, she prepared to play as she moved and sat more comfortably on the ground and started thinking up a song.

Cost? Of course. Nothing ever came for free in this world. Kyros was certainly learning that lesson many times over. First he'd learned that blind obedience was the cost of survival and protection within the Creed ranks. Perfect loyalty to the Shade, his master, in exchange for a brotherhood he could call family. His accidental betrayal of the cause had cost him all of that. Thrasius had saved his life simply out of the kindness of his heart and asked for nothing in return, and now Kyros was ever indebted to now dearest of friends. Only friend. Fotios Leventi - or rather his men - had come to Kyros' aid when a Drowned One had tried to take him down at the behest of the Shade for his perceived betrayal. Fotios had then offered his aid in helping Kyros survive without his brotherhood. But that too did not come without it's costs. So of course now, there would be a cost for Kalliope to play for him. But would that cost be worth it?
'Deal?'
He took a deep breath and let it out slowly. Tilting his head to the side and stealing his jaw, he reached a hand out and plucked a string twice, paused, and plucked it a third time. Maybe. Present your cost and then I will decide if I am to comply with it or not. What would she ask of him? Would he even be able to oblige if he wanted to do so? He hoped that she would play before demanding her price, so that even if he could not pay, he would at least have the memory of her song when he left her this day.

Hearing the notes play, Kalli smiled at the sound of two, though she could not help but chuckle softly at the third one. "Am I to assume that is a maybe? It's ok, I would hesitate as well. I grew up knowing how to make deals, so maybe is always a good start."
Now, was her chance to see if her new possible friend would be willing to meet her in the middle as she learns more about them. "Now, what the cost is, is not coin. It's more of a request of sorts since I can not see you, but I wish to know more about you if you would be willing to allow me to?" Holding out her hand, looking about as non-threatening as you could be, her meaning clear as she let them make the choice.
"If you do not want me to see you, that is ok too. As I stated, it is more of a request and I will still play for you either way." It was a simple thing, a show of trust for trust as she knew that if they wanted to hurt her, there would have been many opportunities to do such as they conversed. So now, since she stayed and trusted not to be hurt, maybe they would trust her as well?

Grew up making deals? What sort of deals was she speaking of?, he wondered. Was she a daughter of some shrewd haggler down in the market? She seemed to young to have worked too many deals herself, though. But who was he to judge this? He certainly didn't have an abundance of experience with the ways of city life. Still, he was curious. He was finding that he was curious about a lot of things lately.
A myriad of thoughts flashed through his mind when she said she would not want coin as her cost of music play. He watched her lift her hand up, his brows furrowing, not quite understanding. See him? But how...? His eyes grew wide as he raised his brows in understanding as his mind finally pieced it together. She wished to touch him! He recoiled at this thought. He'd been careful not to even brush against her thus far. He glad to hear that she would still play for him if he refused. The mercenary's breath quickened as he pondered her request. For she'd clarified that it was indeed a request and noting more. He reached around her outstretched hand and plucked a string just once. No. I cannot. He'd revealed to her that he was even present. Kyros could not bring himself to let her touch him.

Kalli nodded sadly when they said no, but she understood it. She didn't like it when people touched her either without her permission, so she understood. Though she smiled, her tone still sounded slightly disappointed "Ok. I understand."
Taking up her lyre, she leaned over it as she started playing a soft tune. Her fingertips rough from years of play, her long white-blond hair falling over in front of her as she plays her song. In the spur of the moment, Kalliope made up a song on a whim, putting her whole self in the one song she played just for her new visitor without a care in the world as she lost herself in the notes.
'I am not a stranger to the dark Hideaway, they say 'Cause we don't want your broken parts I've learned to be ashamed of all my scars Runaway, they say No one will want you as you are Only my voice and my talent too Always craved and wanted to be used. Several minutes have passed, Kalliope felt almost as if days have passed without her knowing, as she ended the song and stretched her arms over her head to get out the cramps from sitting in one spot for so long. "Did you like it?"

Kalliope conceded to his refusal to let her touch him, to "look" upon him. The man was relieved she did not push the issue, and settled in to listen to her strumming fingers so skillfully playing the lyre. He leaned forward, elbow on a thigh as he sat cross legged before her, chin in his hand. His grey eyes riveted to her, but his ears trained to listen for any indication of someone coming their way. Trained to detect any threat coming from any direction. The blond's musical voice soon joined the sweet sounds of the lyre and Kyros felt mesmerized as he was pulled into the message of the words. With the revelation that she was blind, the words made much more sense. It was a lament for something she couldn't have. There was clear passion and sadness in her words. And it truly made Kyros wonder what her life was like to make her sing so. She attended a school that catered to no one but the richest. And yet she did not seem to act like a noble. His eyes narrowed as he pondered and listened. Perhaps she was betrothed and the privileged prick demanded she learn how to entertain him properly. The mercenary felt that ever present hatred of the Taengean nobles bubbling towards the surface, but he did well to stamp it down... for now.
'Did you like it?'
Kyros stretched his hand across the space between them and plucked the string of her lyre twice. Yes. But the touched to the instrument without Kallipoe holding it - for her hands were above her head as she stretched - caused the delicate thing to begin to topple from her lap. Faster than even Kyros could think about what he was doing, he had lunged forward unnaturally fast and caught the thing just before it hit the ground. He looked up to the woman and held his breath. He was just as close to her as he'd been when he'd first dropped from the tree and pushed her bag towards her, perhaps even closer.

Kalliope was stretching when she asked if her companion liked her song, not thinking to hold her little lyre so they could answer the question, so when the string was plucked Kalli jumped at the feel of her lyre falling. It was a quick motion, instinctive as she brought her arms down quickly to catch her beloved instrument, what she never anticipated was that her companion jumped for the instrument as well. The rush of air that brushed over her face, filled with that woody scent, told her to late as her arms brushed against someone very warm right in front of her. It was a pair of very muscular arms, almost hot to her cool hands.
It was an instant, but her mind gathered that they were on the bigger side of what she remembered was proper for a woman, so her companion must have been a man. A man with a weird bump on his arm, almost reminding her of what she remembered of scars.
The motion of her leaning forward as she dropped her arms placed her much closer to them than she anticipated as the tip of her nose touched what she would guess/hope was his nose, his scent filling her senses and almost making her dizzy. Never has Kalliope ever been so close to a man before, not close enough to touch, though a few have tried to catch her interest. Such a simple moment, quick in its progress from one moment to the next.
When she felt his nose tap against hers, Kalliope fell back on her bottom as her cheeks flared a bright pink. "I-I'm sorry!! I didn't mean to touch you!"
To Kalliope, in her mind, she broke his trust since he did not want to be touched by her. "I know you didn't want to be touched, and I didn't see you, it was instinct to reach for my lyre when it was falling." Kalliope sat there, on the ground, and leaned back on her palms in the position she caught herself in, hoping that her companion was not angry now. She remembered how some men in the markets were with women, violent when mad. Would he be the same with her, just like the others that she had seen all those years ago?

Taken aback as he was by his sudden nearness to her, it was nothing compared to the frozen rigidness he felt icing his veins when she actually touched his arms! Before he could jump back, she'd fallen foward enough that her nose brushed against the tip of his for the briefest of instances. His eyes wide and somewhat crossed as if he could see the spot she'd touched on his face. Kyros felt... something he only recalled in the vaguest of dreams. Panic. His breath hitched at the contact, his heart raced in his chest. His eyes darted around for an ambush as if this woman had been nothing but a decoy to lure him in.
Kalliope's own panicked apologies drew his attention back to her, and he was finally able to breathe past the lump in his throat. The skin of his upper arms sizzled where her delicate and cold fingers had touched his skin. He still held her lyre in his hands. He looked from her to it and back again from his balanced crouch on his toes. He swallowed. She'd touched him. He needed to leave. Now. He held the small harp out to her, and after a moment grimaced. He'd nearly forgotten that she couldn't actually see to take the thing from him. Sighing quietly, he reached for one of her hands so he could guide it to the instrument. He was momentarily struck by how tiny her hand was in his. Pushing past this notion, made certain she had a hold of the thing. He rose to leave. But almost as an after thought, as the words of her song replayed in his mind, her subtle asking if she would see him again... he bent and let his hand glide all the way across the strings just once.
Then he disappeared without a sound, melting into the shadows back up in the tree above her. He paused there, looking back down at the talented woman that had lured him here. She'd touched him. It wasn't like Kyros hadn't been with women before, far from it. But she'd touched him unexpectedly. And he could still feel the touch of her skin on his...

Kalliope was trying not to panic as her heart threatened to fly right now of her chest as it pounded away like a bird's wings in a storm. Never had she been so close to a man before, or one that had that scent that seemed to give stomach butterflies. Were all men so warm to the touch?
Kalliope was silent after she apologized, lost in her own thoughts of wonder, now more than ever wishing she could see him. So when a sound of a very soft sigh invaded the quiet of the little alcove, Kalli jumped a little but didn't pull away when a warm hand grasped her own. Such a simple move that left tingles in its wake. Was it her imagination, or were his hands huge? Maybe they just seemed big wrapped around her own? It wasn't like she had any experience to compare it with. The touch was brief, a moment to place her lyre in her hand before he was gone. A quick play of notes from the lyre in her hand gave hope that she would meet him again, but the feel of someone near her was then gone. "A-are you still there?"
Silence answered her and with a soft sigh Kalliope left the little alcove. How much time had passed? It felt like she was there for days, just talking without any worries. She heard her guard that Lady Xene assigned her before he noticed she was there, spooking him as she quietly requested to go home.
